Time for New Head – It's time to replace the head of my Sensotouch RQ1260, after reading the reviews I am now very concerned that the new head at $100 will be nothing but trouble. Has Philips actually resolved the issues? Show details
Replacement blades don't exist - you have to replace the whole head!!! – I bought this shaver after having another Philips for about 20 years. After 1-2 years the blades were worn so I went to get new ones - sadly you have to replace the whole shaving head! At a cost of almost $100 - what about the environment and waste? AND cost! My old Philips used to be able to just replace the blades. This is extortion. Eventually… Read more
someone showed me that in Hong Kong you can buy entire replacement heads for $10. How is this even possible? I bought two. Either someone is making $90/head or they're stolen or something? The next shaver I buy will have replacement blades.

Replacement head blades are a joke – Like many other reviewers, I bought the Philips Sensotouch 3D and had no issues for a couple of years until I had to replace the blades. I went to the Shaver Shop in Doncaster to buy some replacement blades. I was told the original blades are discontinued but was offered the official new replacement blades. I got home and one of the orange clips… Read more
was broken straight out of the box. I returned it to the shop but was told it was not covered under the warranty (pretty sure I could have argued for a refund) but was given a spare one from out the back, so no worries. The replacement blades worked ok for a couple of months, although noticeably worse performing than the originals. Now after 2 months, the blades are useless. It just took me half an hour to shave and I am beyond frustrated. I took some solace from reading other reviews to see that EVERYONE else seems to have the same problems. I only wish I read them before I bought them. Oh, and I clean and lubricate the blades after each use. Which by the way, is a massive pain in the head because the replacement head is so damn fiddly. I hate these blades. One of the worst products I've ever used.

Replacement Heads – I read with some concern on the 'net about the move to the 12+ heads for the RQ1260, but I have to say that I am more than happy with the results having made the necessary change. I nice close shave, and seems to follow my face fairly well. BUT (and isn't there always a "but"?) the plastic head protector is a piece of crap. Mine lasted two… Read more · 1
fittings before snapping. Having experiences similar failures with my earlier shaver, I was extremely careful, but this one simply fell to bits when putting it on the head! It is a shame that so much effort is put into designing such an intricate piece of equipment as the head itself, then letting the side down with such a shoddy accessory. I was going to describe them as "cheap", but my local Shaver Shop advises that they are not stocked as a normal replacement product, but they do get them in from time to time, and they are AROUND $30!!!! It might seem like a small thing, but it reflects very badly on Philips' quality control regime.
RATINGS: Shaver...EXCELLENT. New heads....EXCELLENT (so far). Included accessory....TERRIBLE.
FAIL Philips.
Replacement Blades – I have had my RQ1260 for a little over 2 years and have just bought replacement head. Told by ShaverShop it was an old model and they "didn't do the replacement heads for that model, but this one will fit" (RQ12+). The replacement head was just under $110 (on offer today at $79.95) the special price was nearly as much as a new lower model 500… Read more · 3
series razor. I was told to be careful with the "little orange tabs as they break easily", I didn't understand what the guy was talking about as the head on my razor didn't have any orange tabs. Having got home I am disappointed to see a poor designed replacement head which no longer moves each blade on 3 different axis. The original blades rocked (totally) but were also independent and separated helping to get around your jaw line. It is also going to be hard to keep clean as you can no longer lift each individual cover and I am fearful of breaking the "little orange tabs" as it would appear they are well known for breaking. I have been happy with the razor but the change in design for the replacement head has left me unimpressed. Also the plastic cover to protect the head snapped as soon as I clipped it on, now I won't be able to protect the blades when I take the razor away. This is my 3rd Philips razor over a 20 year period, I have always been happy with the brand and replacement blades have always been available for years. To be told after 2 years that my razor was an old model was a bit of a shock, but as we now live in "disposable" times where you just throw away something after a year to have the newest model, may be I shouldn't be so shocked. I know I won't be paying $400 for my next razor, I doubt these new blades will last as long as the old ones. Maybe I should think about going back to wet shaving as the cost margins have come closer than they used to be. The razors gets 4 stars, the replacement head gets 1 (because the orange tabs which hold the blades in place are known to break).

Never had a problem with the heads but – Bought mine about 5 - 6 years ago. Have never had a problem with the blades - I always cleaned them after my daily shave, maybe that helped. Unfortunately the battery is now flat and will not recharge. It was holding a charge so well that I didn't bother taking the charger on my frequent weekend breaks! Hope it's fixable. Show details · 1
Beautiful, quiet shaver (still on original cutters and battery :-) ) – Having read the reviews left by many unhappy people, I just wanted to say that I like mine (made in Holland) very much, and it's been going well on the original heads since December 2013. Perhaps I have a soft beard? :-) But I'm glad to see others experiences, they made very interesting reading. (Mine was purchased during a 50% off sale I think.) Show details · 1
Works great! – Have had this razor for over a year now and am more then happy with its function and performance. I've experienced none of the battery or cutter issues reported by others. However, here it is over a year later and still using the Philips.
The shave is close enough for my liking and as I said, have no issues with its performance. I should also add that over a year later, I'm still on the originally supplied cutters. I don't know whether its relevant but The Shaver Shop recommended I spray the cutting head with a spray lubricant after each shave. They claimed it would lengthen the life of the cutters. I thought it was probably "snake oil" but at $16 a can (which lasts about 10 months) it was economical if this is the reason my cutters are still going ....and I shave 5 - 6 times a week.
Would recommend to a friend without hesitation.

Crap replacement heads – Like others I had the original shaver head which needed replacing. The type are absolute rubbish for which you pay a premium price. My new one lasted about a week before just completely falling apart while shaving. I cant get the unit to close properly and the blades hit the casing. Plus the shaper edge on the outer rim cuts the the skin especially under the nose area. Never buy a Philips again so disappointing after good ones before. Show details

Do not buy any Philips product – Paying $450 for the worst product in the world have designed technically wrong by Philips. The customer service do not answer and just try to waste the time. No one is responsible because they are happy with your money. Other brands more cheaper and better and better response when you contact them. Damn Philips .....
Blades are useless; avoid Philips! – I thought I was the only one experiencing extremely short life span of these (expensive) blades. The original blades lasted quite a while, yet the new ones are barely lasting me 6 months. All of the reviews are remarkably consistent, yet Philips shrugs each one off with "contact our team". Replacement Head for RQ1260 – There are many bad reviews regarding the replacement head, RQ12+ for the RQ1260 shaver. told me that the only solution was to buy a different head, (I can't remember the model number), but that they could not recommend it on the RQ1260. Evidently Philips in the Netherlands are still recommending the poor quality RQ12+.
So I am left without a solution for my shaver which is less than 3 years old.
The new 9000 series is getting equally poor reviews. So Philips quality has degenerated. What a shame since they had such a good reputation.
So which brand do I turn to?

Replacement Heads Unbearable – I had used Philips shavers for 15 years. I would buy a new one every 5 or so years not because the other one broke or stopped performing, but because I wanted a newer, better performing one. replacement heads. I purchased these from Shaver Shop for the price of a cheap brand new shaver and as a result expected it to perform. Perform it did... It felt like my face was being waxed but without removing any hair. This new head literally just pulled on all my hairs. I thought this might be a charge issue so charged it, same problem. I took back to the box to make sure it was the right one, and yep it sure was. I called Philips Aus and they said there were issues with the first batch and that they would send a new updated one to me. Great, but back to using 'el blunto' for the time being. New heads rock up in the post (thanks guys!), but unfortunately the face wax continues. I annoy Philips Aus again with a phone call, and ask old mate if he can check and see if he just has any of the old blades left. He said he really doubts it, but if he finds any he will send me them. Nothing ever came and I continue to use 'el blunto' to this day (a year on). I cant even buy a new Philips shaver because they all use this hair pulling head. What do I do Philips? Why have you put me in this position when you were always consistent and reliable? I now resort to looking for cheap chinese old style blades with a tear in my eye.

Fantastic......but useless once the original blades are gone – Really enjoyed this unit for the first 18 months. Granted the battery life is excellent and the machine still works well. usage levels, on very short growth (5 o'clock shadow at best). Phillips really need to rethink their support for this product, because at the moment it is nothing but a one shot offering. Replacement heads, a disaster – I have shaved with a Philips razor for 40 years. In 2013 I bought a RQ1260 as I had started shaving my head as well. It did a great job. Easy to clean and I could go without shaving for 3 days without a problem. A year later the heads were getting a bit worn, so instead of buying replacement heads, I purchased a RQ1285 as it was on special and… Read more
only cost $100 more than the replacement heads. It had the same heads and I got the same great performance. At this stage I would have rated both shavers 9/10. Again after about a year the heads needed replacing. On purchasing ( all above purchases were made at "Shaver Shop" Robina) I was to discover that they had upgraded (haha) to a new style of head. I remember at the time thinking "why fix it if it's not broken". What a disaster, from day one. It takes an extra 10 minutes per shave to get nearly as good a shave as the old style. They have to be cleaned after every shave, which takes an extra 5 minutes each time. I have to shave every 2 days instead of 3. After 6 months these inadequate heads needed replacing. I decided to persevere, so yesterday I went back to the Shaver Shop to purchase the replacement, hoping they had again upgraded. The manager informed me they had no stock, as he had sent what he had back, as they were broken. He told me I should complain directly to Philips as any complaints made by Shaver Shop to Philips re this common problem, had fallen on deaf ears. I can only conclude that this piece of plastic junk was only introduced as a cost cutting measure. It does not belong in a top of the range product. 2/10.

Was good at first... Until I replaced the head – I bought my RQ1260 in 2012 for nearly $500. I was sick of wet shaving, and wanted to feel that I could get a good shave quicker, and with fewer cuts. Plus, wet blades were so expensive back then, so I thought that in the long run I'd be better off. For the first couple of years, it was very good. I really liked how easy it was to clean with the… Read more
'open up' blade covers, and easy to put back together. The quality of the shave was high. But then performance started to drop off, and the 'replace head' light came on. I had assumed that the blades were just blunt and needed replacing, but the Shaver Shop gave me a whole new head, which was a different design to what I had. So I paid $110 for it, trusting in past performance, and anything newer should be better, right?
Instantly, it took longer to shave, although not completely impractical, and the result was far worse. I had to go over areas many more times to get anywhere near clean shaven. I was disappointed that I had spent so much to get less. I now don't have a job where I need to 'be in the office' every day, so I choose to shave every couple of days or so, but part of that is that I can't really be bothered taking so much time to get the required result. I've also considered going back to wet shave, given the costs have come down, and high quality electric shavers haven't changed so much. If I get another suit and tie job, I might have to.
So to sum up, it was great in 2012 and 2013, but not so much since then, and definitely not with the new head. So 4 1/2 stars initially, but closer to 2 more recently. So 3 overall. The head experience really puts me off buying a high-end replacement, because you'd think something that's had a couple of more years development over what you already had would be better, not worse. I've lost confidence in electric shavers' capacity to deliver as a result. If I spend the money, how could I know that it meets my expectations? It's not really something you can return due to hygiene.

RQ1260 Fail – Purchased an RQ1260 in Jan 2013. Hardly used as I have had a beard for two years and only used it to trim my neckline, at most twice a month. Just over 3 years of minimal use and in Feb 2016 it is dead. Working one day and unchargeable the next. Presumably a dead battery from other comments. Won't be purchasing another Philips again.

Contacted Breville who said there was no way they would check my details for privacy reasons. I know electronics can be unreliable but an electric shaver is not exactly high technology.
So I've paid $300 for a shaver that lasted less than three years; not good, think it is time for a change.

Great Shaver but – This shaver was recommended to me by a Shaver Shop assistant and it is definitely the best i have used yet. But after just a year of reasonably regular use and following all the cleaning rules religiously it needed new blades at the astronomical price of $140.00. Excellent shaver but premature death!!! – To be honest, this is a great shaver. It's a good weight (quite light) and the shape moulds to your hand neatly. It is for all these reasons that I am so angry now because it died on me this morning after only 2.5years! I just went to use it, and it was lifeless. No charge and no sign of life.
If it was 5 years old, I'd probably say I got my moneys worth - but I feel ripped off now. When calling Philips customer service, the person I spoke with had a level of attitude and empathy that should not belong in an excellent customer service business.
So now, I've got no shaver, I had to use my old blade from 2 years ago this morning which was awful, and I'm trying to decide if I should go away from a product that I have enjoyed for almost 10 years now (had 3 of these or similar ones anyway) or try a different brand. My recommendation is to do your due diligence on if these kinds of problems are prevalent in the Sensotouch product family.

kill with blood dripping off my scalp!!! This was my ritual for about 2 years, then a friend suggested electric razors would be a safer way,so after some research, I purchased one,( Phillips, though not sure which model) what I do remember was that it had self sharpening titanium blades, which did a fantastic job from day 1.
This lasted a good 3 years, until my son decided he needed it more than I did,so I started on the google review sites, and brought my current 1260. Off the bat,I was quite impressed with its ability to shave as close as it did, though obviously not as close as a razor.
Now here's where it gets interesting....
The shaver heads were lasting me no more than 10-12 weeks!!
I went and spoke with the rep that convinced me this was tthe best available for my skin type ( I'm Italian /Australian), and because my head hair follicles were quite dense, this would result in a shorter life of the heads.
I accepted his explanation, purchased replacements,and $130 later,moved on.
This happened a few more times, until I was ready to cut my losses, and go back to razors.....
My last ditched effort was a purchase I made on.... Ebay, from china, for replacement heads which weren't genuine.$35 and 26 days later, I received the heads. The date was 13th January, 2014.
I have been using this head, every day, since then( yes,I have to shave everyday!!) and it is incredible, so much so,I actually can't recall the last time I used a razor!!
I'm amazed by the absolute finish product, smooth as a baby's but each and every shave. 14 months and no signs of fatigue.
And for the record, I dry shave scalp and face,Daily, prior to showering, then after I shower,I use a vitamin e cream.
The combination I have, keeps me looking and feeling way younger than my 52 years suggest ( just ask my wife)
Sorry for the long review..
Clean shave, good shaver, minor complaints – For some years I used several models of Panasonic foil shavers, and when last of them has gone bonkers (erratic on/off), I thought I'd try something different, so I got this one as it had 60-days money back guarantee. give it time to get used to the thing. Expect minor disappointments for a week or two. Maybe give it a month. I can't explain it, but every shaver I had took time to get used to. This one even more so, I am still adjusting to it, and the results are getting better and better.
Compared to my 4-blade Panasonic, this one achieves same or slightly better result, but I estimate that with Philips it takes about twice as long. Also, Panasonic allows more precision getting into awkward places because it's "business end" is smaller, and has all-cutting surface of the foil. And the trimmer is more convenient on Panasonic. Those are the only drawbacks I can think of. Everything else is top-notch.
To mention a few good things about it:
- the main thing: while Panasonic could only handle up to 2-day stubble (any longer and I had to switch to a razor), this one mows through even 5-6 days growth without much effort
- it is very, very quiet compared to foil shavers (good when others are still/already sleeping when you need to shave)
- it has a better and easier to use stand/charger, better designed - just plonk it into a cradle, no need to fiddle with the connector at the bottom and no water collection in the base
- the knives float easily in all directions and follow the face contours well
- the saving head seems to be more gentle on the skin and has less chance of scratching or irritation
- with everyday cleaning, nothing needs to be separated from the shaver, which gives you a free other hand to work with, and you don't need to juggle foil, shaver, brush, soap, etc.
A few tips:
- Through experimentation I got the best results when using dry shave with shaving oil.
- Pushing harder down into the skin doesn't help much, gentle pressure works best.
- Try different movement patterns and see what works best for you, they might turn out to be very different from what you had before.
Overall, I am happy with this shaver and can recommend it without any qualms.
