certainly doesn’t give you quality for its price point. I’m now going to buy once and buy good via workshop a standard retractable hose. Pope’s product is just not worth the $$. Overpriced and underdelivers.

I had a old pope retractable hose it was about 5 years old it was decent quality, the wall mount broke so decided to buy a new pope absolute garbage the wall mount is now different so now I've got holes in my brick work it looks cheap an feels cheap unfortunately it's not cheap with a $200 price don't waste your money Show details

Poor quality product – The return spring broke after 46 months. Not covered as warranty is only for 36 months. I had this reel under cover out of the weather. The hose and cover is pristine. I would of thought to get better use than this. I spoke with a Pope representative and she said there is nothing she could do for me. I'll go with another brand now for all my gardening requirements. my review would be good except that the hose will not fully retract – can anyone tell me if the unit can be dismantled safely to replace the belt that for distributing the hose evenly across the inner spool

Poor quality and unrepairable – After a couple of years of intermittent use, the hose split inside the unit which means more water comes out the bottom of the unit than the end of the hose. Tried to repair - 12 screw holes (every one full of mud wasp nests). I can see the split right where the hose joins the central hub but can’t g remove the outer cover. Appears to be made cheaply and despite costing around $100, it’s ‘disposable’ junk.

Loose hose connection – I just bought the latest model wall mounted 20M Pope hose reel from Bunnings. I was influenced by the previous good reputation of Pope products over the years. hose onto and secured with "teeth". Soon after the installer had left I heard a noise outside and found water gushing everywhere and the spray head on the ground. I then discovered that the tap was still on on and pressure had obviously built up and popped the connection. Thinking it may have been a bit loose to start with I pushed it back on and turned the wall tap off. The next morning I found the spray hose again detached and on the ground. I am giving this thing a second chance with a lower pressure input, sufficient to water a few pot plants. If the hose continues to pop off it's going back.

Retractor does not work – Own three of these hoses bought two years ago only one working properly will not retract poor quality, Would no way buy again, if I still had receipts I would take back. Noticed they have upgraded there retraction system I will never know if it is any good.RUBBISH

Really helpful for a large yard – I note that many other reviews say they have had problems with the Pope retractable hose. area of bushes and garden. It did kink once recently but generally seems very good. Sometimes it doesn't retract completely in leaving about a metre but I can usually coax it in and I think its more my fault because I feed it in while holding the nozzle to empty the hose and might have pulled on it a little bit. Mine is the 30m variety and was a gift. So far, so good.

Terrible quality – Pope quality has deteriorated over the years to become cheap garbage. Connector failed and hose split after a month. Absolute rubbish avoid and buy a different brand. Customer service completely uninterested in helping.

Boy, how disappointed I am – Half a year haven't passed and a gun and both connectors have failed. The gun sprung multiple leaks around the assembly seams and connectors broke the little plastic teeth (for a lack of better word) that hold them onto a 12mm adaptor. What a rubbish quality. I now wonder how long will the reel itself last, something tells me I'll be shopping for a new one pretty soon. Show details

Product worked perfectly for 2.5years – Auto Wind Hose Reel 30m is convenient to use and I would recommend it. However, after 2.5 years the retractable mechanism jammed yesterday and the product is now out of warranty. I will replace it as the $195 cost over two years is acceptable to me. Show details ·  2

Pope retractable hose failed - purchased from Bunnings! – I purchased 2 retractable POPE hose reels for my brand new home in 2015. The hoses have deteriorated on both, one has an issue with the retractable mechanism and both units have decayed from UV light, plastic housing looks terrible. I don't have the receipt and it's now time to replace, and not something I want to have to do as these units are quite expensive. Buyer beware! Show details

Unable to retract – Bought this Pope retractable house around 2 years plus. Recently some mechanism inside failed totally and now unable the retract. Receipt i cant find probably thrown away in box. The whole item is not cheap by any means and i expected it to last much longer as it is under a roof and protected from the external. Wrote in to pope, but nothing they can help. Disaster – I purchased a 20m retractable garden hose. It has failed in so many ways. Extremely difficult to pull out hose, does not completely retract (leaves out 5m of hose. The entire hose has become soft and sticky with several fractures and kinks very easily and the locking mechanism no longer works. A dismal disappointment. Does exactly what it says on the pack – I love this product. Was so easy to install and it goes everywhere with ease. I use it to water in my back yard and it goes over the gate to water the front garden too - I don't have a tap out the front yet so this has been a God send. Pope 30 metre Retractable Hose Reel – Excellent product, easy to install and use. Hose easy to pull out and very easy to retract back. It was a Xmas gift. Does not do what it promises – Bought this hose at Bunnings for my elderly mum. We chose Pope because we thought it was a great brand. She has had it for 4 days. Hose doesn't retract all the way, leaving about 1.5m hanging out. It sometimes gets stuck and won't pull out any further than 5m. Hose connection to the tap leaked straight away. Very disappointed as we paid over $110 for the system.

Not fit for purpose! – Bought this for a pensioner friend! First one had major defect on the mechanism, locking on pull out and not retracting properly. Took it back and it was replaced. Second one worked ok, with minor glitches in the locking on pull out, but after around 8 months all the water gushes out of the bottom of the reel with none coming out of the hose!  Show details

easy to use, pulling out the hose doesn’t require much strength and retracting it is automatic (and fast!). The hose itself is on the lower quality end but it doesn’t kink. I also found installing the housing onto brickwork simple. The Gardenline is also considerably less expensive compared to the Pope.

Now for the Pope. It is mission to get it out. I hate it. There is no way a little kid or old person would be able to get this hose out. It requires a lot of strength and effort. And the hose is terrible quality. I remember the salesman at Bunnings telling me the hose is low quality but it doesn’t need to be top quality because it’s housed. But that doesn’t stop it from kinking all the time! Retracting it is meant to be automatic, but it needs help as it slowly reels itself back in. It was also harder to install on brickwork.

An Expensive Retactable Hose That Does Not Work! – I purchased this to help me in the garden due to a shoulder injury, we purchased from Bunnings a 30 mts retactable POPE HOSE.
