Got charged $84.00 for 16 days worth of power- re final bill with PowerClub!!! – I haven't been particularly happy with PowerClub for some time, but when they sent me an email, a week ago, stating that their tariff charges, were going to significantly increase as of the 1st of July so, I took this as an opportunity, to go elsewhere. Having done this, I received my final bill from PowerClub, yesterday (8/06/2022) for 16 days of… Read more
usage (16/5/2022-31/5/2022) and was charged, $84.13!!! That works out to be more than $40.00 a week!!! in charges (And this is before the major tariff increases!!) My advice to anyone thinking of joining P.C. is to think again. I have been with P.C. for the last three years, and cannot see anywhere, where I have made any significant savings. I might also want to add, that PowerClub's idea of transparency, is probably not what the rest of us, think as transparent. You might not think that $84.13 is not a large bill (it isn't by anyone's standards) until you look at the time frame it is charged at (just over two weeks) and the fact, that I live (alone) in a small two bedroom house, that is connected to both a solar unit and a thermal heat pump and am frugal, in my actual use of power. The set up with P.C. is simply to add as many fees and charges as possible to consumers bills, and to regularly deplete their power-bank balances. I had a balance of over $800.00 at one stage, that went to zero, in a matter of days (without any explanation of why this had happened) I also want to add that PowerClub's staff, are by enlarge, rude, disingenuous and difficult to communicate with. I don't know what criteria they are employed under, but it doesn't appear to be, anything around outstanding customer service!!!
Beware Wholesale Price Fluctuations – PowerClub was ok for about a year even with the one power bank top up my bill was $1300 for the whole year which was not anything better or worse than usual... Until *queue explosion* I received two power bank top-ups monthly sequentially one $400 and one $1100 power bank top up plus my usual bill. Which brings my last 15 months with power club to… Read more
an average of $2400 per year (averaged out)... this puts me at a huge loss, basically overpaid an entire years’ worth of electricity. Scanning through the usage graphs on the website this was mainly caused by 4x $280-$320 days, which weren’t any different to my usual usage. Switched provider.
Advice, do not sign up to PowerClub if you use a smart meter… if you still have a basic meter (old school analogue, manually read once every 90 days) then you will benefit greatly but on a smart meter forget it. Its not worth the risk.
Horrible! Avoid at all costs – highly misleading offering and they quickly increased my costs so significantly that it doubled my bills. Response from customer service was if you don’t like it leave, so I have Show details
12 months down and still counting – As an aged pensioner, electricity cost is a big part of my budgeting. When it got too expensive with my previous supplier, I knew I had to look for a better deal. I live in a small apartment and was watching my power usage very carefully, but I still couldn't get the cost down. I looked at the Victorian government's website that compared… Read more
electricity prices and Powerclub looked pretty good so I gave it a try. The results so far have been great. I get pensioner rebates and winter concessions but my previous supplier also gave me a full 30% pay-on-time discount. Despite this, my electricity bills have now almost halved. I have also found the customer service with Powerclub to be very agreeable and helpful. The possible financial responsibility of being a member rather than a client does worry me a bit, so it is up to each individual to decide for themselves whether Powerclub suits their needs.

you get all the risks of the fluctuating energy price and minimal opportunity to save – This is applicable to Victoria. Standard rate is higher than the Victorian default offer which put you at a disadvantage to start with. Included reference price per kWh is so low that most of the time you will be paying extra, over and above the already inflated price. That is why you are required to pay upfront and have a buffer they call… Read more
PowerBank. It is obvious that the expectation is for you to use it up. This is no "club", it is just a scheme for you to pay expensive electricity. Making any saving, through "cheap wholesale power", is really, really hard work and requires constant attention and giving up your life. Yet you can only achieve minimal savings. In the end with all the savings that you may make you will still be paying more that the Victorian default offer. There is little transparency on anything but a lot of jingles and generic feel good waffle. My suggestion is to look elsewhere.
This provider was nice at first, then become who they truly are! – I was with them for over 12 months through Energy Compare. At first, they were really nice and the rate was really good. 3 months ago, they changed their rate drastically and charged my powerbank from over $180 to below $30. Unimaginably, $39 annual fee + $150/ 3 months (so approx. $50 more per month) + significantly higher rate than other normal providers. You should definitely avoid this type of greedy provider. Powerclub kicked me out – The rates are good, but to say the service is subpar would be an understatement. I could not log in to my client portal so I filed a complaint, after a month and a half of convoluted communication, I realized my account had been closed at the EOFY. The weird part is that I never requested a closure for my account and they just did unilaterally. I am truly baffled, now I'm just hoping the refund my Powerbank's balance. Show details
Buyer BEWARE - – PowerClub initially sounded great. I was with them for 12 months and during this time my Powerbank balance grew by 1.5% (At least it was not negative) However over the following 3 months my original $800 plus another $1125 was consumed by spikes in wholesale prices. In addition they double charged me when they changed their billing system and I am still awaiting a resolution. Obviously I have left them, never to return. Buyer Beware Show details
Beware the wholesale PowerClub PowerBank potential losses – PowerClub initially sounded great then reality set it. Doesn't take much for the wholesale electricity price to spike and drain your PowerBank balance down a very black hole. This happened recently to me, over only 3 months my PowerBank balance dropped from $120 to $28, I couldn't wait to get away, if you also factor in the annual subscription fee of $39 I lost $131 in the 3 months I was with them, that's $43.66 a month! Beware the risk. Show details
Not for everyone, but good for those who wish to manage their usage and the times they use electricity – I have PV solar on my place and am a current customer of Powerclub and have been with them for about 10 months now. This is how I understand it: The prices are based on wholesale prices and the difference between the expected wholesale price and what the real wholesale price is either credited or deducted from your Powerbank, not your bill. you manage to get sufficient credit on your Powerbank, they will rebate some of this to you. During the day, particularly on a sunny day when there is a lot of solar production and not much matching demand, the wholesale price will often be zero of negative. If you use power during this time, you will be credited the difference to your Powerbank. Between 5pm and 7pm, particularly on weekdays during winter, the wholesale price can often be very high ($3 to $5 per KWh), if you use a lot of power during this time, the difference between the expected wholesale price and the real wholesale price will be deducted from your Powerbank. Powerclub has an Apple and Android app which shows you the expected wholesale price and allows you to receive notifications so you are not flying blind with the electricity prices. It took a while for me to convince my wife to do her baking in the middle of the day rather than 5pm. It has given us cheaper electricity bills and we are about $40 ahead in the Powerbank. We have Electric oven, Gas cook top/hot water/heating.
Reasonable electricity charges marred by serious flaws in customer service, accessibility and billing – I switched my electricity over to Powerclub on September the 26th, 2019. To be fair, their rates are not that bad and I like the fact that you can be billed monthly. However, these positives are marred by some serious negatives, which largely concern poor customer service/interfacing, online access/meter reading and billing. Since switching over… Read more
to Powerclub almost 12 months ago, they have failed to pass on a single Concession payment, they stopped emailing me monthly invoices back in Nov 2019 (which i had chase them up about, last month) their online portal (which is the only place, you can read and view your bills) was unable to be accessed for almost a year, they tried to debit a very large and incorrectly billed amount, from my bank account (which they admitted was wrong) then 18 days later they reissued the same bill, but have now added an extra $553.00 to the bill, taking my monthly bill (for 36 days) to (wait for it) $1576.00! (The previous monthly bill was $107.00) Three emails and a 45 minute phone conversation with a Powerclub complaints officer, resulted in three poorly worded, almost identical cut and pasted responses and zero notes left on the system, (and i have yet to receive a return reply in regards the original email complaint, I sent them almost 20 days ago) plus (yes wait there is more) when i did finally get to go through all the backdated paid invoices, i found serious anomalies with several of the bills, which concern meter readings being a mix of actual and estimated (all in one read and on the same dates) which I don't even think is legal? To top it all off, what really got my blood boiling was stupid cut and paste logo, that came with my last bill, which reads " Here's your latest Powerclub invoice, and now you can start thinking of what to do with all the savings you have made by switching to Powerclub" (Sic) This current bill is for almost $1600.00, so i am not sure where the savings are hiding, but I can't flapping well see them! Oh and lets not forget, this current bill is "allegedly" a catch-up bill (because Powerclub, haven't estimated my electricity usage correctly for the last 12 months) so under current ESCOSA regulations, you must give the customer up to 12 months to pay the bill and only backdate to a maximum of nine months. Powerclub have ignored this and expect the bill to paid in full by the 17th of September. (Fat chance) I have handed over this mess to EWOSA (Electricity Ombudsmans office in SA, and am currently awaiting a response from Powerclub. My end thought, PowerClub might be okay in Victoria, or if you have a programmed Smart Meter (this is not available in South Australia) but my experiences of this provider, have been less than positive, which is unfortunate, because like i said, there rates are okay (Not brilliant) but certainly not the worst out there. Unfortunately their cheap(ish) rates comes with a sting on the tail, which is a litany of issues, around billing, customer service, meter reads, online accessibility and pretty much zilch interest in issues or complaints.
