Lengthy Embarkation Wait in Heat as 3000+ Crowd Grows Impatient and Heat Stress Claims Elderly Victim – Blaming the ‘Port Authority’, Princess cruise’s Majestic’s arrival at Port Everglades to commence a 14 night Caribbean cruise had first to disembark existing passengers from the previous voyage. Despite docking as planned and on time, it would prove a task not up to the meager resource allocation and capabilities of an orderly and expected same… Read more

day turnaround.

Having apparently arrived from and having discharged/loaded passengers from multiple foreign ports, U.S Customs and Border Protection officials naturally insured this was always going to be a slow, time consuming disembarkation for the some 3,000+ exiting passengers.

Worse, the flow on effect of extended delays for those new passengers left waiting in line to board Majestic while the ship slowly emptied.

Seemingly unwilling/unable to schedule appropriate berthing time, you can assume to extra expense involved, Princess’s desire to achieve operational efficiency by exacting a same day turnaround at the cost of a complete boarding debacle is simply not a good optic.

Later canvasing Princess’s staff, naturally reticent to cast their employer in any bad light, they did assure me that ships returning from the Caribbean cruise circuit are spared quite such rigorous disembarkation formality on return to Port Everglades. Disembarkation under these circumstances are typically not an issue.

But clearly and perhaps not infrequently, vessels returning from certain foreign ports of call to take up new duty do present difficulties. Difficulties Princess seem to overlook as acceptable collateral damage.

Princess’s management team, this is simply not good enough. What if you were that poor old lady stuck in the waiting crowd and rushed away in a wheelchair after suffering heat stress in a stationary queue for 2 hours plus? Or perhaps the entertaining yelling match between one of your ground staff and a queued passenger, frustrated he’d been left waiting too long? Or simply just someone like me, pissed off after having suffered 19 hours, some 15,000km of cramped air travel to even get there. Merely to stand pathetically in a queue, my time squandered because of port deficiency and or company penny pinching!

Accompanying photos. #1 conveys only part of the extensive and non-moving arrival line of upwards of 3,000 people dockside. #2 Shows another extensive lineup, this time at disembarkation 15 days latter and snaking for someway out of camera shot on decks 5 and 6. Though less delay than getting on, disembarkation was still a bit of a shambles due to the eagerness of those wanting to get off combined with the tardy unreadiness of arrival formality staff port side.

Top cruise Majestic Princesscruise company – We did NZ January 23 and Fiji November 23. Top cruise staff. Excellent food and top line entertainment. Incredible care and assistance for everyone particularly those with a disability. Absolute stand out were waiters Marvin and Fatu in restaurants. Not Happy – After 7 months we are still waiting for a refund for a cancelled shore excursion. We did not cancel this excursion, were told credit went towards other excursions we had booked but these were all prepaid prior to sailing. Our cabin was only made up once prior to 6pm on our 8 day cruise and on day 7 our bed wasn't even made. We have cruised… Read more

The service with Princess is a disgrace – I unfortunately paid my next cruise only to be told that my daughter in law owns the booking. She has nothing to do with the booking but is getting the invoices and receipts . This is a privacy breach . 3 calls today and nothing fixed even thought I was guaranteed. Still no receipt . I will have to cancel as she will get all the benefits of my… Read more

My mum could have died! Sick and ignored – After contracting covid onboard, my folks completed paperwork for antivirals then were completely ignored for days. They never received medication and more than 3 weeks later are still struggling. No word from Princess, no explanation. They were eligible for antivirals and I was told they have them onboard. Perhaps they ran out? Perhaps they were underprepared for the pandemic in March 2023? Who knows, they won't answer my messages. Show details

Cruise started and so far horrible – Just got charged 3 times for a wearable I purchased once, and nightmare trying to get them to fix. I dont think they will. I don't trust onboard purchase anymore. Guest service shoddy, no follow up, video game arcade non functional and everything very underwhelming. Most activities boring. Quality of stateroom not clean and in disrepair. Last time I cruise with them. Show details

Bored out of our minds - cancelled ports – We cruised from Sydney to Aukland. Two of the ports of call for this trip were cancelled due to the weather not being optimal. No form of refund or sufficient resolution was offered by princess. This cruise ship is not designed for most under the age of 40. Amenities and activities are limited to items such as line dancing. Show details

Cruise from Hell - don't even consider – We travelled to NZ on October 24 on Princess Majestic. Food was second rate, service slow, only one RAT test carried out by the ship for whole cruise. We had our own test kits and tested positive after 5 days. No contact by medical staff after we self reported. No Duty of care and medical centre was impossible to reach. We are both over 70 … Read more

yet received no anti viral medication. Food in cabin was even worse. Because we had covid, they advised we would need new luggage tags. I tried for three days to get these and was told on each occasion they would be delivered that day, but never arrived. We disembarked wearing masks, but none of the staff or quayside workers wore masks or knew we had covid. The list of disappointments would fill this page. I wrote a two page letter in January detailing complaints of everyday, received a phone call end of March from Customer service - should be Customer excuses. We will never travel with this company again and hope this review (along with all the others I have read), will help future travellers not waste their time or money.

Ghost cruise – Ironic,I just read a review by someone who was onboard Majestic Princess and Princess claim the cruise was cancelled. We had the opposite problem.A bungled cancellation between Clean Cruising,Princess and myself resulted in my cruise history now having one new cruise we never embarked on .From Nov. 12th. 2022 to Nov.,20 we were deemed to be onboard… Read more

Majestic Princess from Sydney to Tasmania and return. The fact is we never boarded and we're around 4000 kms from the vessel the whole time. The booking was cancelled but due to someone's negligence we were sent an onboard account on day 2 for $100 ? I have emailed customer relations@ princess with full details and have not received a reply. If there were two passengers in our cabin for that cruise it wasn't" us.I do not know who is responsible for this blunder but it"s a terrible way to end an otherwise great relationship with Princess.

Totally disappointed with Princess will never travel with them again! – Travelled on Majestic Princess over Xmas and New Year from Sydney. This was my first cruise on Princess but not my first cruise - have travelled on at least 30 cruises. Will never ever travel again on Princess not worth the money or the Beveridge Package. Service very ordinary. We were in a DF category - Balcony cabin with large balcony (what… Read more

a joke!). Cabin attendant advised they no longer supply shower caps, body lotion and a few other things which magically appeared a few days into our voyage. Food on Xmas day in the Concerto Dining Room was totally disgusting. You need to check your account on a daily basis because you get constantly charged for things that you didn't have even though you have a beveridge package which is a stress when you are on holiday. Lots of things went wrong. Long story short. AWFUL!! Complaining about the issues is another problem both on the ship and with Head Office. So I've now cancelled my $40 thousand trip for next year as can't see value in this product and I'm certainly not going to pay this kind of money to be disappointed!

Worst cruise EVER – This company is a scam. I spent two weeks on majestic princess and was ready to throw myself overboard. They have overdrawn my account by $1400. I have contacted them NINE times and the only reply I got was my cruise was cancelled. I was on this ship for 2 weeks so it was NOT cancelled. restaurants Harmony that can only be described as amazing. The Medallion Green Line was not worth the time of setting up. speaking of which the idea of ordering drinks on the app caused troubles at the bar as the bar staff had to serve the waiting staff serving the app ordered drinks as a priority and left many passengers standing at the bar for long periods waiting to be served this not only frustrated passengers but bar staff alike, but all in all the entertainment was excellent staff were fantastic and we had a great trip will definitely be back

Cruise Experience

From Reasonable To Terrible – My, My oh how they have changed. Travelled on them 3 years ago, got back last week from a 13 day around NZ and boy what a difference. The service was woeful, the food (restaurant and buffet) was below par and even though they say they care, they really don't. It's as if Princess is only out to make a buck and have cut back on everything. A prawn… Read more

cocktail ordered in the Concerto dining room consisted of two (2) school prawns and some lettuce (really), the food options were terrible and most of the time they weren't hot. The buffet with it's equally terrible food options on level 16 was the usual fight to get a seat, not a lot following covid rules as reqd, but the thing that really stood out was that instead of being served by staff you served yourself via tongs that had probably been used by so many that covid was bound to happen, and it did despite not mixing with others, wearing masks, washing hands, not attending anything in the theatres etc, etc 7 days in and isolation followed and in a way it opened my eyes more to the terrible room service provided and the disgusting TV/Movies provided. A nearly 2 hour wait for a coffee or food is not acceptable and this cruise company should be condemned for what they provided. 3 years ago I couldn't fault them, this time I can't find anything to make me want to ever cruise with them again. One word for them Terrible!

Nice ship but standards slipping – We booked an 8 night cruise from Sydney to Melbourne, Hobart then back to Sydney. Boarding was easy and painless, about the best cruise line we have experienced for this. The ship is new, clean and despite it's large size it never seemed crowded or that big. There is a large central atrium with 3 surrounding levels. There are a selection of… Read more

various shops on the top level, restaurants on the middle level and bars and a cafe at the bottom with guest services as well. The top level (deck 7) in the atrium extends forward and back through the entire ship. The princess theatre where the main shows are presented is on one level and too small for a ship of this size. Not enough seats and non existent bar service, so get there early and take your own drink. There is a large lounge (Vista Gaming) at the rear of the ship where other shows are presented. Shows were typical cruise fare and standard- OK. We occupied ourselves with the regular trivia events which are great way to meet with people. The male entertainment crew member was a misery. Speciality restaurants- the Crown Grill steak house is good, the Harmony Chinese restaurant is certainly not for everyone. The normal restaurants were fine and the World Fresh Marketplace buffet is as you would expect-very busy. Food quality was good but variety not so good- very little daily change in the buffet. We selected anytime dining and met some entertaining fellow travellers from all over the world. Compared with other cruise lines and a previous Princess cruise, I did not find the crew generally that friendly this time. The dining room service could be slow, not sure if this is due to less staff? The lifts were always busy and pretty slow. Beer prices are not too bad but spirits and cocktails are too high. We had a day at Port Arthur which was the brilliant and this was accessed by tender- well organised and quick when we went. At the other ports we did our our own excursions. The cabin was a reasonable size, comfy bed, large TV, big walk-in wardrobe leading to a bathroom. Always kept clean by Rodrigo. Air-conditioning was efficient. The balcony was very small as usual and not used. Disembarking was also very quick- brilliant.

Upgrades that are downgrades – We were looking forward to this cruise for my 70th birthday from Sydney to New Zealand. We booked 17 months in advance (April 2017) and were given Cabin 123 on Deck 15. We were travelling with friends who paid less as they had obstructed views we opted to pay nearly $1000 more for our cabin when we found out where this would be. When it came to… Read more

paying the balance of our cost in September 2018 we noticed we had been given a so called upgrade without being notified. This upgrade was on Deck 9 Cabin 623. We had a tender boat underneath our balcony and the only time we had clear vision was when the tender was not there. We would sit on our balcony and depending on what way the wind was blowing we could smell smoke. We thought this was coming from the cabin next door until we had a stroll around the ship only to find we were above the deck where smokers gathered. Princess said in correspondence that the Cabin on Deck 15 had obstructed views but I have photos disproving this. We had the obstructed views in Cabin 623 on Deck 9. We did suggest in our correspondence that the new upgrade be given to the new guests or at least a refund to us. Up until this cruise I have always been impressed by Princess. Our first cruise being Ruby in 2009 and we were so impressed we were looking forward to this one. We have had several other cruises this was our 8th and this has never happened before.

Princess staff blamed our Travel Agent who booked the cruise saying she had not ticked some particular box. I beg to differ this agent has booked all our other cruises and the cabin allocated to us at the beginning has always been the one after payment. Our Agent and us wrote and spoke to Princess re changing us back to our original cabin but this was to no avail.

My husband will not cruise with Princess again after all the upset. This was supposed to be a special cruise for me. I am chancing it again but I will be travelling with my cousin on the Coral Princess next February lets hope I am not disappointed again as this will be my last cruise with Princess.

There are some good remarks re Majestic. The staff and the food were excellent. The destination was beautiful. Most of the entertainment on board was great but disliked lining up an hour before the show. Disappointed with the main area mid ships where there was always music and entertainment there as I did not think it was big enough for the amount of guests on board, would have liked to see more seating and dance floor.

Hoping for a better cruise next time.

Great but not excellent experience – We recently did the Majestic Princess' first cruise to New Zealand in Jan. This was our first family cruise with ages 11-40. The ship was amazing. So beautiful. So many nice places to go. The food Mmmm so good. The formal dining restaurants were amazing. We especially loved the Symphony restaurant which had great service and amazing food… Read more

included in our fare. My family loved the Market Place (the main eating hall). Whilst there always was LOTS of yummy food, I actually was expecting a bigger range and more exotic food. It is much like a food court with better food. If I wanted more special things I had to go to one of the restaurants which was fine. We also enjoyed the pizza and hamburger restaurants. There is a smart casual dress code on most day, no shorts for the men in the formal dining. Women can wear whatever they like. This annoyed my partner.

The age group was largely skewed to the older population (70+) with the activities reflecting this. Carpet bowls anyone??? The entertainment included a Beetles and Queen tribute bands and many oldie movies. Having said this, we did find many things that we enjoyed such as the Game shows. They were so funny and the staff were hilarious and so flexible. Most of the theatre shows later in the cruise were great. There really wasn't many activities to do during port days as most people were ashore. Due to the ageing population, there were very few loud and obnoxious people in any of the events and this made us feel that we could give our kids more freedom.

The actual New Zealand experience was wonderful. Such a beautiful place. We did Zip Lining, Luging and white water rafting booked on the cruise. All experiences were great. The white water rafter stated that it was for moderately fit people but after experiencing it, we think only 20-50 year old should do it as it is possible for boats to flip on the 7-meter drop. Our 15-year-old son had a great time and all boys this age should do it. I loved luging and the trip on the bus. There is a chair lift which wasn't on the brochure which I didn't like but my kids loved it all.

We had an interior cabin and we loved it. We were at the top deck in the middle and the rocking was not as bad as in the front or back of the ship. Having said that, I was still quite unwell, for 4 of the sea days but no-one else in my party was. We had waves of 4.5 meters one day and that caused much rocking both vertically and horizontally. The cabins were quiet with only a small noise of chairs moving above which was not annoying. The darkness was amazing as we all slept in and it was great when I was unwell. Despite having 3 people in one room we didn't feel cramped. The movies were awesome and included in our fare. We would have an interior again. Our room attendant worked 11 hours a day and was amazing.

If you are an early riser, nothing starts until ten on sea days, so you will need to entertain yourself. There also is no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms, although you can order some through room service.

Our kids did not connect with the kids club. The facilities were great. They didn't go the first few days and didn't make friends and refused to go back. Whilst the ladies at kids club did do a great job, it just didn't work for us. Out of the 4000 passengers, only 300 were kids. So take back up activities or enjoy the basketball and table tennis.

We didn't make it to the bottom of New Zealand due to a nasty storm and diverted to Picton instead and then added another sea day. I think this was great, as I don't like bad weather. The crew went to lots of effort to make us have a good time despite this.

All in all, we had a lovely family holiday.
