Quokka Beds Floating Bed Base

from super gawdy throne like things (mirrored or faux leatherette headboard anyone?) to those crafted from chunky heavy wood (for that gross 90s vibe!).

Then there was the ever so slight (i.e. massive) issue of quality manufacturing. I’d love to know the mark up that some of the furniture stores are applying to their bed bases because the materials and construction techniques are woeful. And. As is normally the case when this is the case, the majority of items are cheap imports. Many of the options had tiny pine slats or, in some instances, just small metal slats. Seeking a king size we were amazed at the number of bases that had no central support brace. At the most you’d get a few years out of them before they buckled, cracked and fell apart.

Then we stumbled across Quokka Beds online. I think the search term was something along the lines of ‘simple bed base’. We were really drawn to the fact that the bed was made locally and their online videos showed the thought that had been put into making a bed that was rock solid and built to last. Whilst we weren’t really chasing a ‘bed in a box’ (despite buying a mattress in one) the simple designs really resonated with us. Being in Perth we were able to go the showroom and take a look and that pretty much sealed the deal. Floating platform, king size, in Australian sourced oak and, as were able to pick up from the factory, we even saved a few dollars on delivery.

Amazingly, the whole bed fitted in the back of the car and went together in about 10 minutes. Several months in and we are still impressed. It is an incredibly solid bed and we haven’t heard a creak out of it. I hope we have it for many years to come!

So, if you are in the market, please give the Quokka a look. Support a business that is providing a quality product, employing local people and makes simple timeless beds (a touch of Scandi if you opt for the oak) that don’t look like they belong in a brothel but are potentially built to withstand the traffic if this is where one happens to end up.

10cm longer and wider so that sealed the deal for me. The Tassie oak I chose looks fantastic and is vastly superior to pine or a veneered finish. I timed myself putting it together (by myself) and it took me 26 minutes including unpacking from the boxes. Usually I'll refer to instructions but the way the bed went together was so obvious there was no need. I prefer to buy things online or at least research them online, and unlike most others the Quokka website told me every single thing I wanted to know so I was very confident with this purchase. The bed was shipped from Perth to Melbourne and arrived sooner than expected. Highly recommended.

Really happy with the sturdy craftsmanship of this bed base. It took two of us to put it together but that's due to the size of the bed, quickening the process, not because it was difficult. Amazing bed frame!! – Amazing bed base! Came super quick, everything is made so well, fits together easily and perfectly. Australian made and sustainable Tassie Oak! So great!!!! Best king bed for a small bedroom – I am in love with this bed! I found it online after trying to find a king size bed with the smallest footprint. I love that this one has no unnecessary surrounds .asking it achievable to have a king size bed in a small room.
