Bad advertising – Early last week I called the RAC-Travel to enquire about a holiday. The information I received looked attractive to me. I also received a quote in an email with a price that was within the range I expected. I made an appointment with the consultant and was given to understand that the pricing in the quote was correct. booked the trip, and the consultant informed me I would receive an email with the confirmation and itinerary.
When the confirmation/itinerary email arrived, the price had increased by $11000.00, yes eleven thousand $AU. The list of itemised items I was expected to pay for was not clear. I called the consultant for an explanation and was simply told: “yes that is the correct price. The quote is only an indication.”
My Partner and I discussed options for the trip and decided to book only one part. I notified the consultant, and the changes were made. I received an email with the new price and the old itinerary, followed by a corrected itinerary.
To complete the booking I had to pay a deposit. The RAC has payment options on the booking form, some of which incur a fee, and the option to pay at any RAC office. To avoid paying fees I opted to pay cash at the Wellington Street office. The consultant advised me that paying cash is not possible as the RAC Wellington Street has no facility to manage cash, and my option was to pay at the Dianella Office. The Dianella branch was terribly busy and only one person was authorised to receive payments. The entire process took 45 minutes to complete on top of an already wasted journey to the Wellington Street office. All this Is leaving me with an extremely negative impression of the RAC, and I am verry disappointed with the service I received.
