Does not kill fast. Slow and inhumane – This trap should be taken off the market. When it was finally triggered by the rat, it caught and injured it, but didn't kill it. I had a trail camera on the trap to confirm what was coming into the area, and work out why it wasn't catching the rat, and so the morning after it caught the rat I saw what had happened. It caught the rat a bit before… Read more

5am, and I saw footage for about 10 mins of the rat managing to shake around before it went out of shot. I went straight down to check, this was at 8am, and the rat was still alive. I had to finish things off myself. This product specifically says "oversize trap kills large rats fast". This wasn't even a particularly large rat, and it definitely wasn't fast. I threw the trap out, because I'm not ever using it again. No one should.

Works but could be improved – So far (approx. two months) with two of these devices I've caught two mid-sized rats and maybe four mice. It seems the trap could be more touch-sensitive but I suggest the main improvements could be: 1. a removable (screwable) bait-holder like similar traps have to make it easier to insert baits such as peanut butter. 2. a hole in the trap so it… Read more

can be secured by a cord as unfortunately rats could run off with it if not fully caught.

I was using a lot of full-strength ratsak poison and the vermin seemed to be living off the stuff and not dying which was not only proving expensive but it's environmentally unsound to poison rats etc that could die and then be food for other animals that then get poisoned. So...I thought a rat-trap with a few ratsak pellets would be a good, albeit not perfect, solution - the rodent will ultimately get sick if I don't trap it but hopefully I will. A sort of win-win situation. But once I've used up my ratsak I'll try non-poisonous bait such as liquorice etc.

Buy something else – Doesn't kill effectively at all, rat ends up trapped and screaming in pain. 4 of the 5 rats that I have trapped with this do not die & have to be drowned in a bucket of water to end their suffering. Not fair to the animal at all. Show details

Expensive garbage! – These traps are designed to be easy to handle but the plastic trip mechanism is too weak and unreliable. The old style wood base ones at half the price is the way to go and worth the extra trouble to set. Show details

Doesn’t kill – I bought this trap for a large rat after reading how inhumane rat poison is. Well, this is no better. It caught the rat on the first night, but while the rat had been caught by the neck the poor thing was still alive and had spent the night suffering in agony. We then had to kill the rat ourselves. Very unhappy Show details

Let down by the quality of the plastic hinge mounts – I purchased a couple of these rat traps from Bunnings. I like the easy set design and after using these easy set traps it’s hard to go back to the traditional rat traps. At first the build quality looks strong. That is until you have a couple of kills and the plastic hinge pin holder cracks. Once the hinge is gone it’s useless and ends up in… Read more

landfill. It’s a shame this poorly designed hinge pin holder lets down a great product. I will have to look for something more robust next time.

Very effective trap – I have had a worsening rat infestation in the woodshed on my property with a growing population feeding on chook food from the chook run next to the shed. I started locking up the chook food overnight and bought nine Ratsak Max strength rat traps. As per the instructions, I started by placing them unset for two days, then set them all on the third… Read more

night. There were seven dead rats the following morning. One extremely large specimen had managed to get caught in two traps. The traps also killed another very large rat (over 30cms, including tail), three medium-sized rats, and a couple of small rats. One trap had not been touched. Contrary to another review I have seen, none of the traps broke when they went off. I reset them all and killed two more small rats (none of the other traps had been touched). I have continued to set traps for the last few nights, but there has been no rat activity, and noises in the woodshed have ceased. These traps have proven to be very effective killing machines that solved my rat problem in a matter of days. I highly recommend these traps - they are easy and safe to bait (I used peanut butter and oats mixed together) and very easy to set with no risk of getting fingers caught.

From 8 activations i e only caught 2 rats. Overpriced garbage – Does not catch rats effectively. It is a more effective trap in scaring away the rats than actually catching them. It is easy to use but thats the only positive i can gice this Show details

Broke on first use – Little plastic hooks hold the main spring to the moving jaw. These little hooks broke the first time it was used. You may be able to see the spring in the attached pic sitting on the trigger plate. It should be attached to the raised jaw. Note: See "Ratsak mouse trap reviews" for a similar review on this product by "Picko", who said "The max… Read more

strength rat trap is rubbish caught one rat and the plastic tab at the back broke rendering trap useless." I Think he means the tab that holds the trigger when the trap is set. It doesn't look very strong to me.
