Poor standards for a building company, poor customer interactions and construction standards – This company has no business ethic. They don't care about the customer. ( well they do until you sign the contact.) then you notice the attitude of the company change. They never made onsite building progress meetings. would delay repairs to the point we were told to move in to the granny flat with no Occupational Certificate. Whilst there was a… Read more
huge hole in the ceiling. Had to have 3rd party building inspection done. Build was riddled with defects all the way through the build ( see pics for a few defects but not all defects) Roof had to be pulled down and redone due to roof being to short. I would not refer this company to a enemy let alone anyone.. I would pay extra $$ and use another company. Also don't count on there rent assistance contract policy if build incomplete after 6mths, as you will never see it, and would need the build to take 3 yrs for you to break even if you take them to court for the delay. they know how to play the system. as I'm writing this review I can see company has gone into liquidation this does not surprise me. As my build went from Aug2018 to sept2021.. and was the worst experience ever. You would have a better customer experience having brain surgery by Mr Bean.

Unprofessional work! Worst company ever – Don’t trust this company. I lodge complaint to fair trading as plenty variation not installed Yet. You need to re check contract as they can manipulate you to overpay them. Very slow took me 1 year and still not finished yet. Staff very rude and no one answering phone and emails. Landscaping not done left bin everywhere. In total they owe me more then 16k Show details
unprofessional and unethical company – Rescon is a building company who claimed they have a planning department that can help me with my DA. However, they outsourced the DA work to a planning company. Rescon refused to deliver what's written in the agreement which they are supposed to deliver. As a result, my DA application was declined by the council and 1.5 years of my precious time… Read more
got wasted. What is worse, they cannot explain to me what went wrong or tell me what the situation is, what options I have. They simply cut themselves out, not responding to my emails or calls. I paid the full amount of money for Phase one and Phase two for design and DA approval, that's about $10k. In the end, they just ignored my request of giving me the digital copies what I paid for. It really makes me wonder how such a company can ever exist, and how many more customers like me got cheated.
Waste of time and money – Very poorly managed with terrible customer service and communication. Signed our contract in Dec 2021 and 6 months later we still haven’t started! They only contact you when something needs signing or paying, after that you will get excuse after excuse about why they are behind schedule. I would say the majority of positive feedback on this site is fake. Take my word for it, stay away from Rescon! Show details
Appalling & escalated to Fair Trade - Steer Clear of this dodgy granny flat business – 1. Rescon were the most dodgy business - this business misled me to CDC when it was clear DA and 9 meters away from Back fence. 2. Despite this Rescon still took $20K money 3. was forced to refund $17K due to my escalation to Fair Trade 4. Accounts team confirmed another side business was taking all focus 5. The Architect provided designs that… Read more
were poor in terms of CDC requirements Electrical box not accessible, did not transfer building contract to design 6. I provided 90% completed designs and my own survey 7. Turned up to my house unannounced where I wasnt home and my 13 yo son had to show them where to go and was anxious about strangers when I was out walking I had requested them to let me know what time they were coming 8. Screamed at over the phone by the Building manager several times, hung up on , kept saying he was too busy, and to stop contacting the business 9. Provided 10 plus pages of errors in agreed building requirements signed that were not translated to the building design so over 40 errors - was screamed at down the phone 10. Felt intimidated and threatened for the entire time
What an absolute nightmare - the most unprofessional and intimidating experience of my entire life
BUYER BEWARE
Honestly all the ratings below are -1 -10 they dont even deserve the courteousy Bunch of bullies and dodgy business to get your money and attempts to screw you over
My Granny Flat – I finished building a granny flat with RESCON a few months ago. I didn’t have any major issues throughout the process and having built before with a major builder I knew what to expect. I can say that when compared with my previous builder RESCON was a lot more professional, their costs are clear, and they are very detailed. Our site had some… Read more
issues and some variations that totalled just under $3000 but they were very thorough in explaining the cost which I appreciated especially given my previous builder simply said variation with very little detail. Anyone thinking of building with RESCON I would strongly recommend, they are a professional company which we noticed straight from the initial visit to my home and the detail in their quote. Their IT systems are amazing, you should call RESCON just to see the tools they use, I have never seen any other builder or business use that much IT stuff. I give them 5 stars, would use again for my next granny flat, maybe when I get old.
Really happy with my granny flat – The build was well managed, Richard was very helpful site supervisor. The quality is great and very happy with the finished product. It met my expectations and happy to recommend to my family. Show details
Good product, reliable builder, great outcome – Sales was very helpful. Explained process, very responsive and made me super excited. Contract was prepared, went back and forth, make sure to go through the contract with a fine comb and understand exactly what you are getting. I cannot stress how important this is, very important to understand the contract. All disagreements during the… Read more
construction is referenced back to the contract and this will happen.
I opted for the advantage plus package that included upgrades to tiling (wall to ceiling), timber frames, air conditioning, wall insulation and many more inclusions. In addition, I upgraded the floor to ceiling height to 2.7m, rangehood vents to external, separate laundry and LED lights.
Contract was signed on 6 March 2017. During the approval, the design was modified by Rescon to meet compliance such as the stormwater to kerb, bush fire zone standards and distance away from boundary and trees. Approval was given mid-June 2017. I had a swimming pool that requires demolishing. I went with a third party (Nepean) because the cost for the pool removal with Rescon Builders was 40% more. By the time I came back from holidays (4 wks) and pool removed (1 wk) the construction commence on 29 August 2017.
Do not be deceived by the fix quote price. All variations was not initiated by me. It happens a lot in this industry, so this issue is not specific to Rescon Builders. Other review will mention variations, so be prepare. I had variations to have deeper piers, slab and ramp to the site because my land had a 2-3m slope. During the construction more variations was enforced: - plumbing because they could not use the existing drainage. - scaffolding for the brick layers which I found this to be absurd. The variation to raise piers lead to a higher ground to roof wall height. Who would have known? - meter box upgrade even though I told them my main house had 3 phase power. It was noted on the contract, but they insisted standard inclusion was for single phase power. Shown in drawing but not in contract..arrghh! - I had to install steps and hand railings to the porch which was another variation not requested by me but a compulsory requirement. All up, variations added an extra 25% to the build costs. As a result, I struggled to get my finances and budgets in order. I made this very clear to Rescon I was not happy with additional variation not caused by me.
With a blown out budget, I was never once late for payment. By the time we were up to practical completion we were in early December 2017 and at this point I have paid in full. There was a 3 week shutdown by the builders during Christmas/New Years. At this point progress suddenly slowed. Over 2 months later, practical completion walk through occurred on 27 February 2018. I believe the slow down was caused by the certifier rather than Rescon.
Throughout the construction I had rubbish scattered all over the property such as bottles, cans, take away containers. The worst thing about the rubbish is that I had a bin available. Wish the contractors they use would tidy up their own mess.
Overall, although I had a lot of variations I know this is an industry problem. All builders cannot provide an exact quote until after commencement. Variation is initiated by the third party trades people rather than the builder. Rescon Builders will finish the job and they are trustworthy. All after sales and warranty was covered. I had minor issues which they resolved. Natasha is superb, she does her best to put customers interest in mind. As a company they are great, if only the sub-contractors they use would do the same. I know it is hard for Rescon Builders to control their contractors but they do hold them accountable so at least they are trying. Example, when a contractor stuffs up, Rescon get them back to fix the problem.
Contract Signed: 6 March 2017 Handover including occupation certificate: 9 April 2018
Not included was the landscaping. I had to organise this myself. From an outcomes perspective, the granny flat is rented out. Great outcome in the end.
I hope this factual review has helped you decide on your next granny flat builder.
Update: 5 June 2022 - I cannot believe I wrote this review 4 years ago. Granny flat is rock solid with no issues what so ever. We have had bushfires, heatwaves, heavy rain and floods, multiple tenants and the granny flat has survived the all elements. Only changes made was to the LED downlights and the fan/light in the laundry. Very happy.
End product good, service and – Quality of the end product is sound. Everything after the initial contract signing right up to the handover stage was riddled with the lowest form of customer service I have ever experienced. "Read your contract" was the response 99% of the time. Tradesmen fighting in my backyard, appalling rubbish removal and even gave us the OC without the… Read more
gutter guard! Plumber cutting concrete like a blind man and an electrician who removed 220 bricks when he needed to move only 16. So many Safe Work issues, it sickens me. Perform work under the ruse of "variations" without telling us and charging us exorbitant amounts of money you have to pay or they threaten you with stop working. I had no driveway for 7 weeks and was told if my 80yo mother tripped, it was not their fault. 6 weeks after they left, we still have gravel through our previously decent nature strip! Most tradesmen are so poorly trained in cleanliness (McDonald's wrappers everywhere. Office asked me to provide a document for OC that I emailed 5 months before to 3 of their staff. The owner of the company is so experienced he is and afraid to talk to the people who he makes a living from, he refused to talk to me. And their in-house Counsel? She is an engineer! Not a lawyer. Stay away from these people. Just not worth the stress. 6 months to build a 1 bedder yet their competition can build a 3 bedroom home up the street in 6 months! Stunning.
Rescon Builders with excellent computer systems – Rescon Builders has excellent computer systems around site design, colour selection and accounting system, very easy to communicate with. Trades are friendly and site manager Richard is nice. Customer service and support are good, Natasha is very quick to respond our queries.Tom the sales guy is good too. Lisa and Christina are also helpful.… Read more
Nothing else to say, we are looking forward to move in shortly after buying some furniture and waiting our overseas family to stay with us in the new granny flat.
Rescon Builders were fantastic from beginning to end – Our luxury Granny Flat from Rescon has just been completed and I have to say we are extremely happy with the end result. I initially chose Rescon as I felt they had the best floor plans, e.g. making great usage of the 60sqm, not too many hallways or coridoors that waste space. The next reason I ended up going with Rescon is the before sale… Read more
service, our sales guy Phill was amazing as he had prior building experience and really new his stuff, he had a look at our site and then listened to our needs and came back to me with 5 plans that would work. Phill made so many great suggestions that really made the difference in the end, little things like making the space for the fridge larger so as we could fit a double door fridge in, it’s only little things but it’s now I realise how good his suggestions were.
You measure a builder by how they good they are and how they treat you when things go wrong (and with construction there are always bound to be issues along the way) and on this front I can say Rescon were brilliant. We had a couple of issues and when I notified Natasha at head office it was dealt with within 24 hours. No problem was too big or too small, this cannot be underestimated as this is a huge thing when building.
I would have to say the majority of the trades did an amazing job, my dad is an ex builder and had a good look over everything and he was impressed. I work from home so I would keep a watch on them from time to time. Special mention goes out to Craig their brick layer, he took 5 days and careful placed every brick like it was his own house he was building, Mark the Electrician was outstanding and went over and above, as were the tilers and plumbers. Honestly all the trades were great and were happy to have a chat, I would bring them down a coffee each morning and say g’day.
Our old meter box on my house was too old so that had to be updated when the new granny meter box was installed, other than that it was bang on budget. We did go over time a little but that is ok, we factored in a buffer of extra time.
I very rarely write reviews as i’m just too busy but I felt Rescon deserved special mention for the exceptional granny flat they built us. I recommend them and you should definitely give them a look in if you are in the market for a granny flat.
Cheers
Andrew
Broken promises, no care once paid – Rescon is great at marketing; then onwards project management painfully slow and difficult, Mark-up cost & late payment fees 'exorbitant', and once you're done with paying them the money.. You're done, no care after you've paid. Broken promises, no responsibilities. I have provided documented promises from Rescon to fix defects & damages, refunds… Read more
from over payments; months later, no progress and still outstanding. Waste of time dealing with Rescon.
Good luck if you don't take this feedback seriously.
Great looking granny flat – The workmanship was great, really good finish and selections. The site supervisor was experienced and Natasha was a real help during the build and hiccups along the way. Really professional service and happy to recommend them for building a Granny Flat. I was an investor and it rented straight after finish which was positive, would build with them again. Thanks. Extremely happy with my granny flat – Workmanship was very good. Management of granny flat was extremely good. Any issues were dealt with immediately. Customer service was very good and easy. Natasha was always checking in with me and was always available if I needed to talk about anything. I'm thrilled with the end result. The whole process took less than 4 months to complete and was hassle free. Thanks rescon. Show details
