Excellent gas heater but new model lacks features and is a big step backwards – Given the expense, I was reticent to replace our ancient, dead Vulcan gas heater with this gas fire, but the Sapphire is the same width and about the only option to fit into the existing wall unit. This heater looks good, is quiet and does a great job of heating a large kitchen/dining/sitting room, and I mean hot, not like reverse cycle… Read more

air-conditioning. But be warned, we got the new model (RIB2312L) and there's no adjustable thermostat or timer.

I was told the new model now comes with the remote free (was $300 extra), so great, sign me up, but there’s no thermostat and the remote just turns heat up and down. The temperature reading on the remote is just a room thermometer, and even that’s unreliable. This is a far inferior model, and when I rang Rinnai, they said take it up with the installer but the only option is rip it out and put in a different model.

Also, the unit has just one on/off button, no other way to control it without the remote, so you’re in trouble if that dies. The unit itself is supposed to have a built-in thermostat that, if you turn it on via the button, automatically heats the room to a preset 22 degrees, but the room becomes stifling hot (more like 26+) before gas output drops. It does a great job as a heater if you don’t want a timer or thermostat that works, but at $5K installed with zero clearance box and flue, this model really doesn’t cut it.

Brand new - doesn’t work – Purchased brand new. Doesn’t work. Had technician here twice, installed new motherboard, still not working AT ALL, over 20 days since it was installed. Don’t waste your money. I am so disappointed. Have had lots of trouble getting through to Rinnai. Don’t know why I can’t get a new replacement, instead of being messed the heck around. 6th 2018 Update: Waste of money - DO NOT BUY

Did not work when installed. I have had Rinnai and Jordan’s try to fix it over 4 times. They refuse to provide a new unit even though it is clearly faulty. I purchased over a month ago and it still is not working.

Rinnai have the worst customer service.

I even tried to contact them on social media. They said they sent me a PM, but had not and then blocked me.

Good but could be better – Had the Rinnai Sapphire now for its first winter in Victoria and I'm reasonably happy, reasonably meaning it's OK but I probably wouldn't buy another one. Like most people who have one the fan is noisy even on the lowest setting. So if you the unit is going to be within 3 to 4 metres of where you sit to watch TV you'll hear it. It pumps out the… Read more

heat though, no problem there. On automatic setting room temp the noise of the fan is compounded as it cycles up to a higher fan speed as the temp drops, then it might turn off because the room is warm enough, problem there is when the unit restarts the fan is on high and thats very noisy. We never use the auto setting because of this. The huge remote is cumbersome and very ordinary design. We also sometimes have a problem that the unit wont turn off if its been running for many hours and the room is well warmed up. When this happens I found out that you press the auto/manual button it switches off. Rang Rinnai who promptly replaced the remote (in 3 days) but even with the new remote it happens every now and then - I suspect the problem is within the unit. Also you have to "re-connect" the remote with the heater if there's been a power failure, a very annoying process. But overall I'm happy with the unit but wouldn't recommend the unit because of the noisy fan.

Love it! – Quite a powerful heater! Heats a large space quickly & looks fantastic. It's quiet, even with the fan on the highest setting. Didn't get the remote (another thing to lose), so adjust settings with a simple up & down option. Simple! There's 3 buttons - on/off, up & down. Easy to clean with running a duster behind the glass.  Show details ·  1

Horrible, Can't even have it on! – Worst choice of heater, not recommended. The smell coming from heater (smoke burning smell) is horrible. Advised by sales store and Rinnai that it will eventually burn off in time. It's still there and can not be in room while heater on. Plumber disappeared (provided by sales store), Rinnai will only look at it if agree to pay $190+ for first hour… Read more

then $45 ever 15min, if plumbers fault I consumer pay cost wrong installation. Store wiping hands of any help. So having paid approx. $4,500 so far and not being able to use heater at all. As a Pensioner saving for a heater, can NOT use DO NOT BUY!
