Roma Caravans Sov'reign

Correct ATM – Just purchased a 2004 17 foot Roma Sovereign. I removed everything that was not original to get an accurate tare weight, but over the scales it weighs heavier than the ATM on the plate. Any ideas and does anyone have a full set of specifications
Love the Roma Sov – We purchased a 19'6 Sov in 2015 from Roma in Melbourne towed it back to Perth our personal experience with Roma in Melbourne was great nothing too hard for the boys, so many comments from other caravaners about the quality our van. Obviously some people you cannot please we have only great experiences with our Roma. As with anything you might have… Read more
some small issues but when being addressed a good attitude goes a long way rather that being a agro. Would we buy another Roma most defiantly all the creature comforts of home and so many quires from other owners of different makes and they love the way our Roma Sov is so well presented. All we can say is thanks Roma value for money in our favour.
Stratos and Mary from Perth.
We are pleased with the van only for a couple of things – Some of the workmanship is not quite right, not happy with the foam around Windows and door but has not had any leaks. After travelling in the van we are now finding the floor creaks a lot which is worrying. The silly shower drain is in the far corner so to have the water run away ok, The van has to be on a angle. The cupboard latches are rubbish… Read more
and break easily. The bed is not installed straight and not sealed from alley hutch. The hot water on/off switch is right in under the sink cupboard which makes it very difficult for elderly to get to as you have to reach right in. The longer we are in the caravan the more we are discovering things that are wrong. Also overnight we hear the bodywork creaking with the weather.
Every thing we wanted – After a 2 years, looking around at other brands, we chose ROMA ex demo Sov'reign 17'6 to replace our Vicount , and got a great deal from the Melbourne Roma . We found the Sov'reign , well finished, There were a few minor 'finish' issues with the caravan like over use of silicon on the roof. After-sales experience has been good at present.… Read more
Brendon is a good salesman
I agree with other comments that the quality control on the caravan could have been to a higher standard , but overall I am very happy with the caravan. Tows well.
Would I get another Roma?
Yes, ( I will keep this one for at least 10 years )
Would I recommend Roma to others
Yes.
Enjoying every minute – After looking around for 12 months to buy a van we settled on a Roma sovereign 17'6 We purchased this van in 2010 and have been on many trips so far the only problem has been cupboard door handles breaking but they supplied us new ones without a problem. We have endured 100kmh winds storms, torrential rain and 46 degrees temp without a problem.
Value for Money – We purchased a 2013 ex demo Sov'reign 17'6 and got a great deal from the Melbourne Roma showroom. We had a much older Roma Elegance prior to this one. The Sov'reign is an entry level caravan really and is not as well finished as the Elegance, which we would have liked but could not afford. So I suppose you get what you pay for. Roma were very… Read more
happy to modify the caravan to suit our needs re solar, TV placement etc. There were a few minor 'finish' issues with the caravan like cupboard door catches breaking, but a quick phone call to Roma and all was remedied and my after-sales experience has been excellent in comparison to some of the other reviews here. I agree that the quality control on the caravan could have been to a higher standard ex-factory but overall I am very happy with the caravan. Would I get another Roma? Yes, Would I recommend Roma to others? Yes, We looked at the Nova too for similar money and the Roma (in our opinion was much better) and we got a really good deal with excellent friendly service from Lee and Brendan at Roma. Roma name and good aftersales service, value for money, good salesman (Lee) who has now moved to Elite Caravans A few quality control items to follow up on, but nothing major, just minor cosmetics.
Good Quality Build – Bought a Sov'reign at the Canberra Show, picked up in July 2013 at show prices. We wanted to put in arm chairs, they were happy to accommodate by raising the floor above wheel wells, new 6 x 2 chassis back to front was required, meant a Tare of 2040 and ATM of 3050 huge storage capacity compared to other vans at no extra cost, narrowed the table,… Read more
put in an extra concertina door between bed and kitchen area, lowered microwave, put in larger 2 door fridge and reverse camera. We are on our 2nd trip out of Tura Beach at moment, first was 10,000klms, currently at Mission Beach, have not had any significant problems. Some people have horrific stories. We believe we have purchase a quality van. Good solid chassis
Made by people who should not be allowed near a caravan – Crooked cabinet doors, staples everywhere, a 1mm ply floor used in a storage cupboard, which was cracked through as well . Not a single cupboard lock on square. A hole in the external cladding covered with a plastic star. Al electrical wiring into front boot was threaded through a raw hole in the front boot, just waiting for a short to happen.… Read more
Entry step into van crooked. Two side windows leaked around the seals. Water ingress into cupboards over kitchen causing staining to lining. TV aerial connection to annex side has been cut somewhere and doesn't work. New van supplied with old gas bottles. After sales service is non existing. Lies and more dam lies. The factory wasn't interested even after several letters. Worst van I have ever had and will sell it as soon as possible. Chassis by G and S. pity they put a Roma body on it
Made as cheap as can be – Sink just plonked in - sealing strip and lock-down brackets hidden under cupboard. 8" Drawer support rails collapsed - T-joint to vertical member stapled, no glue, no checking, no screws or bracket. Pop-top roof leaks - silicone plastered on. Fridge not located squarely, door sits unevenly. Continuous Hinges on Folding Table and Stove Flap… Read more
cheap light cad-plated, rust-scaled in 12 months, should have been S/Steel in food areas.
Battery stated rating 100Ah (1Ax100hrs), should have been rated 60Ah (5Ax12hrs), and was a sealed MF Battery, not Deep Cycle.
Screws holding the track for the Dometic Awning to the Roof are Cad Plated into Aluminum - rusty in no time, should have been S/Steel.
Electric Brake wires too short to cope with suspension movement, broke away on both sides.
Tyres 104/106S are rated total load 1810kg at maximum pressure 65psi, axle load gross is 2178kg-230kg Tow ball - 1948kg. Nowhere near up to
required load capacity. Overall cheap and nasty product. Used to think Roma was a good van Thrown together with maximum short-cuts - not a Tradesman in sight !
We have owned 6 vans at the moment we have a Roma Sovereign 17ft 6 and l can honestly say its the… Read more (+1 reply)
Disappointed in Sov'reign – In line with other reviews I have read it doesn't look like a tradesman has been anywhere near my new Roma. Staples look like they have been fired from a machine gun, there are hundreds of them and a lot are protruding from the inside to out and are visible in the finished paneling which is cracked and warped in places. They even put in a piece of… Read more
paneling with a great hole kicked in it (because it was behind a drawer I guess they didn't care). Glue and silastic everywhere. Hinges on front boot and window failed very quickly, nutserts pulled out from fibreglass. After sales service nothing to write home about either, unless you happen to live near the factory in Melbourne.
Very poor build quality
Water tank straps broke lost all water. (twice). Shower leaked under door, silastic and glue not… Read more
