or to use in grandparents cars also.
It is very budget friendly at a RRP of $199.
There were a few things I wasn't a fan of but only minor - the padding isn't as cushy as some other car seats and it is fairly tall also. Overall it is a great car seat to use and is super simple as well.. I highly recommend this car seat if you are on a strict budget or need something for sharing around cars etc

Perfect for looking after the grandkids! – The Safety 1st Protector Convertible Car seat is grandparent friendly and easy to use! I like how high the seat is and how much room my big grandchildren have. The insert is handy to quickly remove crumbs from the seat. The best thing about this car seat is the fact it can be rearward facing for up to 1 year. This means my grandchildren are protected for a lot longer than normal 0-4 car seats.
5 stars for height and space! – The Protector Convertible car seat is fantastic! I love that it is a tall seat and spacious for bigger/taller children from 0-4. I also think it's right on trend and puts safety first by being a convertible seat that has reward facing for up to 12months! I definitely recommend this seat to parents looking for a car seat that's under the $200 mark.
Fantastic – Firstly I just want to mention that I cannot say enough positive things about the Safety First Protector and I am ecstatic that I will be able to keep her in a harnessed seat until she is 4 years old. Installation of the seat was easy, and the instructions easy to follow. It is a bit wide compared to others seats but it is well padded in a natural… Read more
black/silver, she has plenty of room to make sure she is comfortable whilst safe and we only have the one child so far so there is only the one car seat in the car.
The buckle clicks nice and loudly so there is no question of whether or not it is fastened. It’s a breeze to clean, I just chucked the removable fabric in the washing machine, and because it’s easy to get in and out of the car it’s also easy to clean underneath and around the car seat when doing our weekly clean.
Although I didn’t get this car seat until my daughter was about 18months old, it is a rear facing for babies up to 12 months and forward facing after they get a bit bigger.
Another thing to note was that it came in a cool box, after I cut out a window and steering wheel my daughter jumped in at and was yelling out beep beep and brum brum. So she enjoyed what would normally just be rubbish.
Most importantly my most precious cargo in my car is traveling safely and in style, so for me it is a good overall car seat and would recommend the Safety First Protector to all my family and friends!!
An overall good car seat – I've now used the protector Convertible Car Seat by Safety 1st Australia for over a month now and rate it a good overall car seat. A few points that I love about the seat: When I first took it out of its box I thought it looked quite wide compared to others eats, but this proved a positive as my 6 month old is quite a chubby baby. Its also a… Read more
good height for a 0-4yr seat (which is a want for mums with tall children such as myself).
The material is nice and the seat itself is well padded and it comes in a nice grey/black colour for those that care about the actual appearance of the car seat. There are no bells or whistles and for the price I didnt expect there to be any. But...from a mum who has owned a $350+ car seat and now the Protector which can be purchase for under $200 I honestly can say that when Im driving and my kids are in their car seats, that they are safe.
I havent had any throw up or other messy incidents for the 6 weeks i've used the seat, so unfortunately cant comment on how easy or difficult the seat/material is to clean.
Installation of the seat was easy, and the instructions were easy to follow. I have a 4wd, which has another car seat in it. It would be a tight fit but you would be able to fit a third seat (slightly thinner than the protector) if you were planning to have another baby.
Another possitive note is that it is a rear facing forward facing carseat and with safety recommendation to keep them rear facing its nice to have that option.
An environmental friendly note: the box it came in was awesome. cut out a window panel and a steering wheel and its a box car. My 2.5yo loved it, and from an environmental view it was nice to see this.
My main negative would be the the sides of the seat are quite high. So it makes getting in and out of a 4wd challenging at times when baby is asleep, or squirming to get out.
For the short time ive used this, im happy to say its an overall good seat. I havent had to make any adjustments to the straps yet, but id imagine that with easy installation of the seat adjusting them at the back wont be an issue. And the buckle clicks loudly to indicate that it is fastened in.
Safety 1st – The Protector is quite a large seat, much larger than other seats I have put my children in. This makes it impossible to see my baby while in the rear facing position and it would not go well in the middle back seat if you want to be able to see out the back window of a small car. The infant insert needs loops for the straps to fit through because… Read more · 1
it pulls the insert down if the straps are in loops lower than the insert.
It is a nice clean cut seat, easy to get my baby in and out of and the restraints fit beautifully without any twisting or fuss. My baby does look like he is comfy in it and falls asleep really quickly. His head doesn't move around much while in the seat which is obviously a good thing. No head flopping during naps either, the seat holds bub up well. I would definitely trust the Protector if we were to get into an accident.
All in all a good seat. For it's retail price you could probably get a better and more compact seat but it will do a very good job protecting your baby. I will definitely keep using it for my 9 month old.
Excellent car seat! – I have this car seat for my 11 month old and it is absolutely fantastic. It is so easy to install and my son is always so happy in it. He is still able to fit in it rear facing. The only thing when my son is asleep his head falls to the side a lot more than previous safety 1st seat. Overall it is an amazing seat and I would recommend the Safety 1st protector to all my family and friends!!
