Not as good as my old A8 – I purchased this in August 2020 to replace my old A8 which was 4 years old and running a bit slow. I assumed it would have the same charging plug as my A20 phone which I purchased in 2019. Unfortunately it doesn't and I still need two charging plugs. I also don't like the changed size. I assumed as it was still an A8, it would be the same size… Read more

as the old A8 but the screen is narrower and taller. The keyboard therefore is quite small and hard to read. If I had realised this I would not have purchased it as I mainly use the tablet for emails and reading books. The email app also keeps closing despite removing the data and reinstalling my accounts as suggested by Samsung. Overall the tablet does what it is supposed to do but apart from the speed, I prefer my four year old tablet.

Problem and Samsung doesn't care – I have had about 5 Samsung Galaxy S series since my first smart phone and I have never had any issue. I bought A8 for my 11 yo son first phone beginning of last year (2019) for about $550 from a local Samsung shop as I did not want to spend too much but good enough for some basic games. Within three months the phone could not detect the SIM card… Read more

all of the sudden. Not sure if hardware or software issue. I have done whatever I could from google: reset, check this check that. We even got a new SIM card. The problem is intermittent which Samsung technician could not replicate. Fast forward, the issue has occurred about 6 times. It has been sent to the technician about twice and VOC twice and same answer "We could not replicate the issue" (VOC is part of Samsung that handles escalated issue). In the end we gave the phone away and got a Galaxy S10e, and no issue. The lesson learned here is avoid all Samsung under the S series. If it is out of budget, get something else and don't get Samsung. Note: I also know someone who owns a Samsung Galaxy A8 and has the same issue, and also battery issue.

A great smartphone – I wanted a second smartphone to use when overseas (with a separate SIM), and the Galaxy A8 ticked all the boxes for me. The camera quality is very good, the display is great, and everything about it suited my needs. Frankly, at this price, I can't see why I would need any other smartphone. Show details

Good, but I miss my iPhone – I chose samsung because of the price/value for money. It's a great size and lightweight. But it's not as easy to use as iPhone. Some of the apps don't seem to work as well as in iPhone. Show details

This product is a total dud – Bought this phone about six months ago and I am in despair at its utter failure. Any phone that cannot handle a single drop without cracking is useless. I'm sorry. Humans drop phones. I've been through two screens in six months, and this after I had an iphone for almost seven years with the screen never cracked. So it's not me just slamming into… Read more

iron spikes or anything. The A8 is simply ready-made to break. The next issue is the SIM detaching, along with the screen. This might be the fault of the repair guy. No doubt the company would say that. Either way, I'm close to $1000 down on this phone now, six months after purchase. It's a piece. I'm almost ready to go phoneless for a while after this experience. To hell with it.

Accused by Samsung for dropping the phone – I had the Samsung A 8 for 2 weeks, took it out off my handbag and the screen was cracked like a road map, as it is on a plan took it back to Opus, they went all over it and said well you have not dropped it my answer to them was NO, took it to Samsung store, they accused me of dropping it, and wanted $250 to fix the screen, my reply to them was… Read more

Solid Samsung Phone – This phone has been very dependable in the past ~18 months that I have owned it. Updates have rolled through with some minor changes. Battery life has been very good sometimes allowing me 2 or more days use (flight mode at night). The size, display and performance are all very good in my opinion. The camera is decent, but will not compare to flagship models today. If you can get a good deal on it now, may still be worth it in 2020. Show details ·  1

Perfect for my first smartphone – The main reason I upgraded to a smartphone was to use while travelling. There are many excellent features so this phone is exactly what I needed for internet, email and useful apps. The upgraded operating system is well structured for navigation around the phone. This model seems to be almost as good as the top of range models but comes at a far more reasonable price. Show details ·  1

Samsung are pretty great – I really like Samsungs, they are easy to use, have good battery life etc. Just wouldn't mind something with a slightly better camera. Great screen, and good for it's price. Not too big and still looks nice and slim. Great quality. Show details

Great Samsung Phone – The Samsung Galaxy A8 is a perfect mid range phone. It functions as very well. The camera is great. Easy to hold in one hand - not too big. Has a thin slick appearance and has a quality feel to it. The fingerprint scanner on the rear is a good place to have it. Very fast start up times. Show details ·  1

Smashing Mid-Range Droid Packs a Vibrant Punch – Ovverall a very reliable Phone for day to day use. Gorgeous Amoled Screen is a perfect media powerhouse! Camera is a bit lacking but front camera is the better one of those. System memory can get an issue so an SD card does the trick. Amazing UI and general use. Doesn't lag in heavy use conditions. Looks sleak and durable and very very pocket friendly. 3.5/5 Show details

SAMSUNG mobile phone OS upgrades to PIE – After upgrading from Oreo to PIE the battery drained quickly and the mobile data and wi-fi ran at 1/10th of the speed under Oreo. I reset Mobile data settings, contacted Samsung support who were friendly but a lot of their phones are getting this issue. After two factory default attempts there is no improvement. PUT OUT A PATCH SAMSUNG. Show details

Speaker issues since purchase - Samsung did not fix – Purchased in August 2018. The speaker is terrible and distorts sound when listening to music, during phone calls and even when playing auto noises such as the sound played when plugged in. This issue is not constant but happens on a regular basis. Sent away to Samsung to fix and they couldn't find the issue. So now stuck with a phone that is barely usable.  Show details

Samsung A8 – After being a Samsung lover for years, I thought it was time to upgrade. I walked into the Optus shop (usually I just do this over the phone and wait for my new phone in the mail), and after seeing the A8 I loved it. Everything I want inn a phone and not too big. Battery life excellent. Show details ·  2

Cheap version of Galaxy S8 – The Samsung A8 is basically a cut down version of the flagship Galaxy S8. It is a decent business phone, fast and reliable that you'd expect from Samsung. The camera quality is noticably worse than the S8 counterpart, but at half the price, it's about what you'd expect. Speed and memory-wise it's slightly slower than the S8 but again, using it for work purposes (phone, sms and email) it is hardly noticable Show details

Phone has been great – I have had the A8 for over a month now and find it to be an easy to operate phone with all the features of the Galaxy phones. Camera is fantastic and extra features are very helpful. The only issue with the phone is that I find it to be a lot heavier than the Galaxy phones. Overall a good general phone.  Show details

Good battery life – I have had some problems when watching some apps like Utube, vimeo and also when talking on the phone it jumps or cracks in flow, which is very annoying. Wrap this baby in cotton wool, it is not built to last – The basic functions of the phone are fine and in particular the cameras, back and front, are keeping ace with modern phone picture quality and functionality. Love my new Samsung A8 phone – I have recently bought a new Samsung Galaxy A8 mobile phone and have found it to be an asset. Solid phone. Classy feel. But take care of it – In gender, the A8 is a superb phone for most users. It's sleek, metal case gives it a very premium feel. Marshmallow.

There are shortcomings such as the lack of wireless charging, and the camera isn't near the quality and capability of the S series.

The weight is a bit too biased towards the top which makes it prone to tipping over when using single-handed.

Which brings to the next point. Repairing the phone will be very costly as its not a common Samsung model. As it's sealed, changing battery/cracked screens won't be easy. Add to the fact that most repair shops won't have parts ready (even samsung), the repair will be costly and will take longer than the S models.

Great quality and price – I purchased this phone recently and I'm very happy with it. It really compares with the other higher end galaxy phones without the price tag. (It's basically just like the s8/s9's little brother) It runs very fast, is easy to use and more budget friendly than others, whilst still having all the same features. The camera quality is also superb and it has a large, super clear resolution.  Show details
