Have for 13 years No problem – Bought it very cheap, about a HUNDRED something, from Kmart 13 years ago (or more years?). SANLI LawnBeetle. We cut grass when it's too high sometimes. It starts at one pull every time even now. I really want to buy another one for my family. They have tried Vita and other brands all these years. Now their battery one just died after few months. Where can i buy? Thank you
Hard to Start FIXED – Yes mine became hard to start also, but then after many years I discovered that when you fold the handles down the throttle cable gets caught in the push handle folding locking levers on the side of the push handle. When that happens the cable gets stretched and then when you push the throttle to the start position it does not pull the carburetor… Read more
all the way on to the choke position which is need to draw in the fuel for the cold start.
So I just go down to the carburetor at the bottom end of the cable and pull on the little lever there that sticks out. and away she goes. Problem solved.
Good option – I originally purchased this mower to use on my small suburban block. It has worked wonderfully for the last two years and only after moving to a larger block do I now need to replace it. Sometimes a bit difficult to start, little bertie has served its time admirably and I am sad to see it go. I would buy again 7/10. Show details
Don't Buy – From the start i was weary of a no name brand but thought I'd give it a go for cost. From day one i was worried about the base being made out of plastic and the mower having non adjustable wheels. Neither of which caused an issue. The motor did. I gave up using it after a few cuts. Sold it for half price. Show details
Tough little unit – I bought this as a temporary thing as I needed a mower and was on a tight budget. 9 years of severe pounding it's still going strong. I have a large uneven lawn area and it has coped admirably. It struggles with long grass, especially when it's wet, but a bit of persistence (and a lot of restarts) sees it through. I have changed the oil and spark… Read more
plug once and it still starts like a dream every time. I am finally upgrading to something more robust but the Lawn Beetle has been a real champion.
What a mistake ! – Yeah it started within 3 pulls the first few times and I thought this is a great little mower BUT now its a long slog to get it going and thats only after its 3 months old !! It dies if it sees grass thats a bit long (50mm). Dont make the same mistake I did. I also have a larger Gardners Choice mower which I found out is also a Sanli and it spends more time getting repaired than working. Show details
Horrorible experience – Had sanli mower 2months don't ever buy one wouldn't start brand new. Rang to get it repaired there were 7 sanli mowers there. Plastic crap. Box on wheels not worth 5$ I would never ever buy any sanli products ever or have any thing to do with the rude people who spoke to me as they have no respect at all. Show details
Worst piece of machinery I have ever had in my life – Cheap and nasty.within a couple of months the lever broke, the starting rope broke, so straight up $15O on spare parts. Then the wheel mount broke off so I had to drill bolts directly into the flimsy plastic housing. I can't turn it off, so I have to invert the lawnmower until the fuel drains from the bowl and the motor cuts out. So when the… Read more
entire rope housing sheared off completely I thought "ahh great now I can finally take it to the tip and be rid of this headache". Yep be prepared to spend 45 mins getting it started to mow of 5 mins.
great mower – Bought it for $50 on eBay have had it for 4 yrs no problem only changed oil once bargain! .only for avg blocks to mow.needs to be revved to get best out of it.flaw..plastic cover BUT who cares . 3 pulls engine starts every time for me Best $50 I've spent without a doubt.
Has done good by me – Brought this mower to mow very small lawn, shortly thereafter mover to much bigger section. Had the mower for 5 years had no problems. need to make basic adjustments to throttle i.e if it isn't revving it won't cut. Looking to replace it as I am concerned about how much longer the plastic body will last. As per oter posts never adjust the height… Read more
so it doesn't mater that it is very slow to adjust. If you are mechanically minded I think the motor is as good as any on the market (considering the price). Motor has been very reliable (over five years), light, very cheap After five years plastic body is starting to look concerning, throttle control broke (can still adjust on the carb)
Update from 2008 – I do not know what people do to, or expect from, a cheap mower. I have had my lawn beetle for about 3 1/2 years. It has never been serviced and it still starts first pull! The only issue has been damage to the plastic throttle housing from wear; fixed with a cable tie. Cheap as chips, reliable, light weight, quiet. Handles wider than base, height adjustment requires all 4 wheels to be removed-but I don't change the height.
good machine – found it to be good in weight but so far only problem being is the spark plug being a cheap and nasty and the trying to adjust height starts first time height adjustment
OK – i bought from k-mart $169 the wheels fell of so i put the engine on a metal base its great now starts first go, i want another 1 but k-mart don't sell mowers now. where can i get another 1 at that good price? Good price base not good, but what to expect for $169

Know better, choose better.
Bad – Would not recommend for anything more than a very tame, LEVEL and relatively small yard. The one I used was less than a year old, borrowed from a friend. At the peak of my frustration I called them and asked "Who paid good money for this??" 4 stroke, uses straight unleaded. Light. Fabric catcher easy to check how full (my nudging with foot).… Read more
Chokes and cuts out on all but the shortest of level ground. Absolutely incapable of cutting high grass. The pull cord would come out to a point where it did not retract, making the frequent restarts a trying ordeal.
Terrible – STAY AWAY. $169 for 3.5 lawn mows. You decide. Gardener $40 a visit! Is dangerous and cheap and even WITH the price factored in you will spend more time repairing than mowing. I fully expected to get a new one every couple of years but not every two months!!!! Was cheap - KMart $169 - came with oil During first operation the wheel fell off. Really… Read more
struggled with buffalo grass. Second operation the throttle snapped. Third operation the thing really started to blurt and run badly (yes it had petrol) - also the folding arm lever fell off. Fourth operation the entire thing stalled and broke down - dead. Returned to KMart only for them being very unhelpful and wanting me to send it off for repair - i thoroughly denounced this and asked to return which eventually they gave me a credit note. The handle is flimsy and moves about - could even be described as dangerous for a non-flat surface.
Good – priced right, powerfull motor, strong & rugged, good style, good price, Australian contact @ Riverwood, I would not have purchased if higher priced item good association with Coles/Kmart easy opperation
Bad – i mean come on i payed 260 buks 4 the thing and thats pretty much the amount of quality in it. 260 d0llars worth. pull cord is short and accidently pulled it out once (wh00pzi dazy!!) i would like to see a mulching version because i have no where to put the clippings so i have to mulch and it does a messy mulch. (lol!!) and also i am not a huge… Read more
fan of 4 stroke lawn mowers as they have no power in them!! i wud lyk 2 fit a 2 stroke motor on mine! over all a pretty budget az mowa! lol!! I absolutley loved the price. $260 from ho ho may chineese mowers. It started first time when i got it out of the box but the blades need sharpening when brand new as they do not come sharp. it doesnt mulch, is hard to start when its cold. small petrol tank so need to refil after every mow. catcher does fall off when you go over a bump. (which i hate because my lawn is all bumpy and un-even!!)
Good – Happy with product and price. I was concerned about plastic base at first, but then again my last victa mower rusted out in base. I will look for Sanli for next purchase soon of whipper snipper Great light weight mower. Low price was bonus. Started first time out of box and ran ok.
Terrible – Very time I used it I get very upset. Talking to my wife to dump this for a new one. Cheap You have to take the wheels off to adjust the height. It does not cut at all - need to go through the same spot at least 5 times. You cant really cut at any low levels.
Terrible – I had nothing but problems with this model SANLI not only did it have a problem starting eventually the pull cord snapped in two. I would not recommend this mower The price from KMART was great $139.00 Started first pull first time used each time after that got harder to start until it would not start at all. Had it repaired under warranty as… Read more
KMART no longer sold them. Started after a few pulls but second time itried to use it same problem would not start.
OK – Not a bad entry level mower. I'd recommend something better for a medium to large lawn. Good value for money. The lightness and value for money. I got it at Kmart in a sale and had to for half price - what a bargain! The engine appears to be good and very easy to start. Good on fuel. The blade is blunt when you get it out of the box. It took me… Read more
twice as long to mow the lawn the first time I got it until I sharpened the blades. It wouls also be nice to have a plastic catcher rather than the netting.
Good – My lawn is not tiny but it's not very big either, overall the LawnBeetle handles my lawn pretty well. I experience no cutting problems. I think if you don't have a big lawn, and you just want to get the job over and done with, then LawnBeetle is great value (I bought it for $129 at KMart; some people get it even cheaper from eBay). But if you… Read more
enjoy gardening and/or you have a bigger lawn, LawnBeetle is probably too small.
I actually already have an electric mower but decided to go back to petrol because the electric wire limits my mobility. Although the LawnBeetle is small, it's still much heavier and noisier than an electric. I think I would prefer a wireless electric (if price is the same). Cheap; quiet compared to bigger petrol lawymowers The direction of the exhaust is such that it often blow towards you through the fabric catcher, so you can get dust/little grass on your face/clothes. When you shake and empty the catcher you again get a similar problem.
The manual should elaborate more about the assembly of the handles.
