Scotts Osmocote Premium Potting Mix Questions & Answers
VerifiedWhat is the ph of Scott's osmocote indoor/outdoor potting mix please?
Bruce Field
Hi. I purchased 2 x 40L bags of Osmocote this morning. Have just opened 1 and the soil is covered in a white mouldy substance. Is this normal for your product?? I have photos if required. Thank you.
A while ago, in response to a question about quality, you told me this:
"Since the advent of COVID, we have been unable to source the vast quantities of composted pine bark which is the base material for most potting mixes produced in Australia, and we have introduced other sustainable and renewable ingredients to make up the short fall. Among them is an expanded wood fibre, which may look like bark chips but is actually another by product of the plantation timber industry."
I have since bought a few more bags (there being not a lot of variety locally) and it is the same. As reviews here testify, your change in composition has produced an inferior product.
Can you confirm, please, if you have reverted to the original formula yet? I am not interested in buying more bags with "expanded wood fibre" or other ingredients (which you do not specify) because plants have died, the soil rapidly becomes hydrophobic, it shrinks to a hard dry mass and plants fail to flourish or die.
