Selleys Silicone Remover

Selleys Sealant Remover was impossible to apply to smooth bathroom wall and floor tiles in a thick layer as was specified. It worked with limited success. The worst aspect was the very strong petrochemical smell, which permeated the ensuite and… Read more
bedroom for several days. I feel it is expensive and poor value for money. I won’t use it again due mainly to the smell, and there is a lot of product remaining in the container.
Follow-up · We ventilated the room by opening windows and doors, and operating room fans. The sealant being removed was silicon. We used a scraper to initially remove the bulk of the sealant and then applied the sealant remover. It partially softened the sealant, but we discontinued its use because of the pungent smell. After scraping off as much of the… Read more

Worked for me – I needed to remove the frameless shower glass so that I could build a shower curb (hob). With a keyhole saw, I cut through the existing silicone between the glass and the wall and the floor. I then took a razor blade to remove the bulk of the silicone. But what I couldn't get it all with the blade and tried different products to remove the… Read more
remaining skin - I tried rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, WD-40, turpentine, and even gasoline. Nothing seemed to "melt" the silicone. Bought the Selleys Silicone remover, and as others have stated, struggled with trying to apply it with a putty knife. Finally, gust used my fingers to apply it to the walls, floor and glass. Let it dry to a white crusty powder and hit it with my razor blade. Sure made a mess, but worked really well.
Absolute rubbish! – This crumbly product is difficult to apply. It is messy when it dries and it takes more time and effort to clean up. Easier to remove the original silicone with a sharp knife or find a product that will actually do the job. Waste of time and money.
Dont waste your money on this Selleys Product – My experience is similar to the others. Applied this as per instructions, waited the 24 hours and nothing happened. The application of this crumbling mess is not easy and most of what is advertised on the can was not true. Its not a cheap product so suggest you look for alternatives.
Worst building product ever – So I'd cut the silicone bead out with a Stanley knife and scraper and was using this to remove the remaining bits. Well, what an experience that was! The mob at selleys say to spread it in a 5mm bead with a scraper - the problem is it is the consistancy of crumbly Vaseline and come in a tub, why not just put it in a calk gun tube? It sticks to the… Read more
scrapers, won't spread and sticky chunks get everywhere. Fortunately I don't have tiles like the bloke above/below but a fibreglass shower bottom but it still took ages to clean up. Never again.
Selleys Silicone Remover makes the job 100 times worse – I used this product to attempt to remove silicone residue, which is exactly what they claim. I followed all the instructions to the letter. Cleaning up with methylated spirits, as they advise, merely spreads the silicone oils further and further. I now have a couple of semi-polished ceramic tiles that are virtually half covered in silicone oils;… Read more
the grey grout has very noticeable white residue ingrained, and I cannot remove it. I tried leaving a message on their facebook page asking them for suggestions but no-body has replied; they have no email address, so contacting them requires an expensive phone call. Stick to a fine-blade scraper, and just put up with any accidental silicone fingerprints, or your life will be hell for days.
