Skamper Kampers

Friendly sales and after sales support – After 3 years of researching and looking at camper trailers we purchased a Ranger with 12ft tent and kids room extension. It is exactly as we expected and even provided seemingly more room after spending a few weeks camping over the new year holidays. I recently noticed one of the rear LED lights wasn't working, so I contacted Skamper Campers and they sent me a new one which I received within a week. Very happy. Show details
The Ultimate is ultimately fantastic – I researched for 10 months before buying my Skamper Kamper Dingo Ultimate. I have to say, in no way am I disappointed. There are a couple of minor / personal modification I will make, but I handy with a soldering iron, so these minor changes are no issue for me. Driving the unit home from the showroom, to home, it towed impressively well. The… Read more · 1
braking system was set up and working with a few minutes, and works a treat. I opted to have the additional fold out solar panels, as I found I could easily install a 200 watt panel for quick removal to the roof. This works extremely well.
Once home, ran it through its paces. It was easy to set up and take down, the hot water system works extremely well ( just prime the lines first) all the electronics are well laid out and easy to work with. The amount of storage is next level. I’ll be using this with my 3 teenage kids, and just suits us perfectly. It looks good, it sits up says “ I can do anything” and reckon it will!
The level of workmanship is excellent, it is detailed to a high standard. I look forward to many years of enjoyable use.
PRO’S: The staff at Emu Plains, are patient, helpful, and answered more questions that I expected.
CON’S: These are both a matter of personal options, I would really like an additional gas outlet to run the small BBQ I have. I am not sure why, but the rear section doesn’t have carpet lining the doors / draws like the front section.
Overall, I can easily see why this made camper of the year, but you get more than that, you get professional and helpful staff, they are very low pressure and seem more intent on showing you and answering questions, this is because the product speaks for itself. Simply, it a high quality unit at a great price with exceptional design and finish.

Fantastic!! – We purchased a Dingo Ultimate camper trailer and everyone we felt with from the company was fantastic!! The quality is excellent, the team at the show room are very knowledgable and happy to help. The hand over when we collected the trailer was very thorough. Would happy purchase from them again! We love our Dingo from Skamper Kampers – We found it easy to find the factory and there was plenty of products on display and the quality was excellent. Show reply
Do your homework before purchasing – We purchased the Dingo without doing enough homework. The concept of the Dingo and alike is they are “off road” capable and this true. The important aspect however that trumps this feature is the not considering the off grid capabilities and the sheer practicality of the camper trailer. Trying to run a fridge for extended period of time on the… Read more
supplied batteries and 120w panel is an exercise in Russian roulette. Trying to get the supplied hot water system to work and not waste all your water is another issue to contend with. Expect your meal preparation times to be 2 to 3 times longer than usual because trying to cook a meal on the supplied stove will test your patience especially if there is a 5 knot breeze. If your expecting a relaxing time away then think again, the Dingo will make you work. We had our share of issues with the kamper and SK attended to most of these which was good. There were other issues that I had to spend considerable time and money to sort out myself. There are some design issues with things like annex that I had to fix. Strengthening the LPG bottle holders. Oh where do you pack your clothes? Sorry there isn’t anywhere for those. My wife and I really tried to give the Dingo a go but after 2 week trip to Tasmania we sold our SK Dingo after 10months. We both came back from that trip requiring a new vacation. Lack of sleep due to the fly flapping all night long is a tender moment to remember. The Dingo is ok for a long weekend but anything longer then forget it. We have since bought a caravan and the off grid capabilities leave the Dingo for dead and no warranty issues and nothing for me to fix. So my advice is do your homework and choose something that suits your needs and not get swept up with a cheap camper. If you’re going to spend $18k on a dingo remember this...the Dingo is a very underdone camping vehicle, lacking many basics, it’s poorly engineered and is poor value for money. Finally, when I purchased this camper I was swayed a lot from the personal reviews on SK FB group and so called independent professional reviews online. I have since realised that one must take these reviews with a pinch of salt.
Love my skamper kamper! – I recently bought a skamper kamper dingo. Because I am based in WA and there is not yet a showroom out here, I organised everything over the phone. A big thanks to Ivan from the Melbourne showroom. He answered all my questions informatively and enthusiastically. He even had the tape measure out for me over the phone. team made it all so easy and went above and beyond in a number of ways. No problem at all with the camper since purchase and with follow up questions I feel as I am a valued customer. Not just someone they forget about and avoid after the purchase. I can highly recommend Skamper Kampers..... Mike & Laarnie.
Scamper Dingo 2017 model – We are really happy with our Dingo Trailer and have had good service (before and after) from the Scamper team. For the price, you just cant argue with the offroad camper it is. Show reply
Could Be Great - BUT IT IS NOT - attitude is everything and at Skamper it is very poor when it comes – Skamper Kamper Ranger XL AND Before Skamper reply "this is not a fake review" You have had heaps of chances to fix the problems and your leading salesman has ducked for cover each time. I have waited till now (along time) to publish this and am only doing so because once again you have ducked and weaved. Design faults were numerous: simple… Read more
to eradicate at design; but a hassle to rectify.
Build quality is OK but it is Chinese and that really says it all. When you add very poor acceptance of responsibility for rectifying design faults and manufacturing defects to the recipe it becomes a very unpleasant experience.
We did not go the Super Show 2015 with any intention of buying a camper trailer but we were so impressed with the presentation and apparent ease of set up demonstrated by Skamper that we ordered a Ranger XL (12ft tent) with boat rack, annex and kids room. We picked it up from Emu Plains where we were given some basic instructions on how to put it up (excluding the annex and kids room). All seemed OK. Eventually got around to seasoning it as instructed although we had received conflicting instructions on that matter i.e. “don't bother it's not really necessary”. We soon noticed some poor quality manufacturing issues with rubber seals fitted incorrectly, rusty (supposedly stainless) steel screws, missing seals on hinges - no problem, we took it all the way back Emu plains and these issues were resolved. The absence of competent legible instructions was our remaining complaint and they addressed this by again setting it up minus the annex and kids room. From here it all goes downhill like a bob sled on steroids. Our first trip was to Lake Lyell along with a host of other owners. Met some fabulous people who helped us "overcome" some set up issues but again we encountered problems especially with the annex which could not be properly attached to the main tent - we did not even bother with all the walls simply too bloody hard. It was a crappy windy dusty weekend and the canvas remains stained with dust colour - no ones fault that's the way it goes. BUT.............
.............Earlier this year we put it to a proper test on a 3 week stay at North Haven NSW. Still with no instructions of any value we (4 of us) proceeded to get set up; position first getting the trailer nice and level (even used a level to make sure). In short, it after three frustrating weeks it was still not coming together. We did not even try to attach the kids' room. To make matters even worse the water pump kept pumping after turning tap off, the annex skirt is not designed to fit around the boat rack, the tent leaked like a sieve, the jockey wheel rubber disintegrated (literally), the tropical roof refused to go down on pack up (we had to remove the rods). Annex ridge poles detach from main tent mounting points at first gust of wind, Main tent outer poles are dysfunctional when mounted into receiver pockets if ground is not perfectly level,
When we raised these issues with Skamper we were told:-
“Check the pump tubes for kinks or leaks and rectify it yourselves”.
“We don’t sell many boat rack options so the skirt dose not fit”. “Take the skirt somewhere and have it modified to fit”.
“The set up must have been wrong that’s why it leaked” “the zippers leak anyway just try a wax stick”.
“the jockey wheel is Alroh and you need to take it up with them”.
“Yes, the annex ridge poles can separate from the mountings” – no solution offered.
Main tent poles? “Your fault” No solution offered.
Rubbing salt into the wounds we now find that the stupid piano hinge on the under sink door is damaged – a seriously crappy design fault.
With respect to them doing what we felt was their obligation to rectify under warranty – “no cannot do it we don’t have the room” was the response. But they very reluctantly agreed to modify the skirt we if took it out to Emu Plains and of course go out there to pick it up. That’s a whole day of my time wasted just so they can rectify an obvious design fault.
Yes, we too found them to be nice people blah blah blah, but now they have our money and we have a defective trailer and we are still without instructions despite them promising 2 months ago to send the all new dvd etc etc they were working on.
Quite frankly I am utterly disgusted at the lack of REAL customer service and, the total lack of responsibility for rectifying design and manufacturing faults.
I am certainly not going to waste my time going all the way out to Emu Plains just to get the skirt modified and then have to attend to all the other issues myself.
Buyer beware: – if you insist on buying a Skamper be prepared for a rough ride if you find things are not up to scratch. I note there are a few flattering reviews but our experience suggests that reality is quite different to the image portrayed by them.
I have an extremely successful business with many clients going back 18 years or more. If I had treated my clients the way Skamper treated my justifiable complaints I would have no business at all.
As for the jerk who on one forum commented “if you cannot fix these types of issues you should not be camping” I can only wonder who is paying you to come out with such crap. Fact of the matter is when you buy a brand new car you don’t have a go at Goodyear if the tyres are faulty or Bosch if some relay fails – you go back to the selling dealer who has both legal and moral obligations to rectify manufacturing issues regardless of who made the offending part.
Skamper Kamper Gecko – Great product with sone really goid features. Unfortunately the innerspring mattress is like concrete. Quick change to al $600 foam from clark rubber solved that. The main issue I found was the ball weight(not in any brochure) comming in unloaded at around 250kg and loaded exceeding 350kgs. I cant tow it with my nissan patrol so essentialy its a yard ornament. Totally devastated.
Sorry to hear Nicole. Unfortunately, the rear… Read more
Great camper, excellent service – We were after a value for money, off road camper trailer that was easy and quick to set up. We found it at Skamper Kampers and we just love our Dingo forward fold camper trailer. We looked at many campers as well as lots of research on the internet. We visited the emu plains showroom several times during our search. From the first time we met… Read more · 1
Carlo and Dion to the time we ordered our camper there was never any feeling of having dealt with a pushy salesman. In fact, after visiting several competitors showrooms, we commented to each other on how laid back Skampers were to the others, it was almost like they were happy for their product to sell itself! We have now had four outings with our Dingo and can't wait for our upcoming big holiday to the Gulf country. We had a minor issue on our second outing but after a phone call on the Monday morning to Mick, the replacement part was on our doorstep on Tuesday. We are so happy with our Skamper Kamper Dingo and are confident that if we have any problems in the future we will be well looked after.
Our experience with Skamper Kampers....shocked!! – Shocked!! Yes, shocked by the excellent customer service and level of actual care. In today's consumer landscape it's hard to find an honest and reliable company to deal with. Most are super keen to wow you with service until they have the funds in their account. Not Skamper Kampers... The Skamper team answered all our questions prior to the… Read more · 1
purchase (we purchased a Ranger without ever seeing one physically), arranged the delivery to Adelaide and offered good after sales service. Our Ranger arrived with minimal damage to the top cover due to friction caused by wind during transit. Mick and the team sent a new one over at their cost, no questions asked. The distance between Adelaide and Sydney/Melbourne doesn't bother me at all, I know these guys have my back should something go wrong. Solid product, reliable company and service, great bunch of guys to deal with.
Home away from home Perfect! – Best money ever spent can't wait to use our camper trailer more and more and create amazing memories! So easy to put up and pack away great quality canvas heavy rain and no leaks love everything about it plus the service is second to none always helpful and willing to assist for any new or old purchases so happy! Love our Skamper!!! – We went to many camping shows and visited many showrooms to look at camper trailers but nothing we come across compared to Skamper. Their service is exceptional and the quality of their campers is amazing, not to mention they look much better set up than any other camper. If you're thinking of buying a Skamper, don't hesitate! We are very happy Skamper Kampers :-D Show reply

Great followup service to fix issues – I purchased a Skamper Camper Ranger in November 2015. After 5 trips I looked underneath and found catastrophic failure in the shocks and suspension plates. I rang and emailed Mick and the crew at Skamper and also provided some photos and they couldn't be more helpful. It was clear that this issue on both plates was an anomaly as everything else… Read more · 1
with the camper has been fantastic. They replaced the whole shock setup within the hour and also fitted a new tank guard for me. Nothing is ever perfect and when issues arise it is the after sales service that is important. Can't compliment Skamper enough for their concern, great attitude and commitment to ensuring I had a solid camper back on the road immediately. Thanks guys!
Great camper trailer – Ranger camper is easy to set up. Tows great. Workmanship is good and the team at Skamper Kampers were great and easy to deal with. No major problems so far. First time out we were smashed with strong winds and rain. A few minor leaks that are to be expected with new canvas and the camper held up well and we stayed dry. Had to change a few of the… Read more · 1
nut fasteners on the poles the first and second time camping but that was due to over tightening from me. Over all a great camper trailer. If you can't set up a Skamper Kamper then you shouldn't be camping.
The ultimate camper – It really boils my blood to hear comment like robs as so many of there customers and my own experience have been positive in my opinion Skamper Kampers has by far the best value for money. It also raises the question are these reviews legitimate because I know if you go to Skamper Kampers with a warranty issue they will help out if in the warranty… Read more · 1

And as far as set up of the camper being difficult what a load of rubbish I can set the 12ft main tent up in 5 mins and the annex in 20 with one wall on so please take these reviews with a grain of salt and come see the quality yourself.
Poor quality camper – This camper is poorly designed and takes forever to put up. I seasoned the camper at home in heavy rain four times. The camper leaked like a sieve. I was silly enough to think that this would be resolved once seasoned - bad mistake. Went to merimbula and in light but persistent rain, the canvas leaked everywhere. I bought a camper trailer for comfort and to stay dry. I will never buy a Skamper Kamper again.

Great service and value for money – Met with the guys from Skamper Kamper last year and was very pleased with the service and the Ranger Trailer that I bought. The service was great and even after a minor issue, it was resolved with no hassle at all. The trailer was right within my price range and think it is great value for what I wanted. It does the job and I'm very happy I… Read more · 1

Fantastic – We purchased a Skamper Kamper in 2013 and have been very happy that we did. The price of the camper was great and the sales and services team were fantastic, every question and query was patiently answered, nothing was too much to ask, purchase and delivery was a breeze. There was one minor glitch with our towbar which was fixed quickly and hassle… Read more · 1
free by the team at the Penrith office (partly our own fault), big thanks to Mick. We completed a 14 week, 24000km road trip so there was a lot of set up and put down of the camper, everything about the process was easy, set up in under an hour. There was plenty of red dust and off road during the trip and the camper, the tent, the kitchen and all that goes with it held up extremely well in hot, harsh, dirty conditions. We have continued to use and enjoy some great times in the camper on many trips around the state and have nothing but praise for the Skamper Kamper and would recommend it and the sales team any time.
Skamper Kamper Gecko – We bought our Gecko this year and we just love it, Dion looked after us and we could not ask for better before and after sales service, we had a couple of very minor issues which were quickly resolved. We took our camper to Freaser Island for three weeks in October and it performed faultlessly. Show reply
Happy Customer – I can understand some of the comments about exhibition day frustrations. These days can be hectic and a strain on both the Potential Buyers and the Exhibitors. I think it was around 40 degrees at the Newcastle Exhibition days and everyone was getting hot and bothered. All I can say is that after "struggling" through a number of these days I was… Read more · 1
able to narrow the choice of campertrailers (around $10k) down to a final 3 and the Ranger was one of them.
When fine tuning the pros and cons on cost, additions, build quality, customer forum comments, showroom visits, tent versatility, ease of setup, etc. I knew the Ranger was going to be hard to beat. Mind you the others were also pretty good. Before buying the Ranger I visited their Sydney showroom a couple of times and had the usual toing and froing by phone and emails. They were always patient and really just let the product sell itself. When I had an after sales issue with the gas bottle holder toggles they understood, owned the issue and quickly remedied the issue without any fuss.
My wife and I have loved taking ours away without any issues and it is just so simple to put up and take down. Neighbouring caravan and campertrailer owners have been amazed. Easy to set up and pack away is great for any relationship.
I've only had the Ranger for around 6 months, but it's been great. No hassles inspires peace of mind camping. My wife was sceptical at first, but has loved it since our first trip away and on our last trip she fully packed it away on her own (I had accidentally ruptured my Achilles' tendon - cast and crutches) apart from the caravan park manager helping to slide the kayaks on top. The only time I've had a need of after sales service the Skamper Kamper team have been fantastic.
So far I can't really fault the Ranger or the Skamper Kamper team.
Excellent Value Camper – I'm really surprised by the other reviews, though two are opinions of people who don't own one. I bought a Skamper Kamper Ranger at the 2013 Canberra Home Show. I'd done my research and this was to be my first camper trailer (upgrading from tent camping). I didn't want to spend more than $10,000 on one with all the bells and whistles, figuring if… Read more · 1
I enjoyed the experience of a soft floor then I could upgrade to a more expensive hard floor/top in the future. I had two friends with Skampers and both were extremely happy.
I looked at the other brands in this price bracket (Oz Trail, MDC and GIC) but was most impressed by the Skamper Kamper. The canvas was much heavier and better stitched than the others and I liked how all the extras were included instead of being optional extras.
Very, very easy to set up. I got the smaller tent because it's just me and one child - I think I would have struggled with the bigger one. The annex was easy to erect too, but I kept the roof attached because I found it a pain (I'm height challenged!). Arriving in caravan parks was always fun timing myself from arriving to having the tent up. Six minutes was my best effort - that included unzipping the cover, putting the legs down, and opening the tent up. Annex took me around 40 minutes by myself, but I have a great system in place (poles colour coded).
I'm really surprised by the comments about customer service. Skamper Kampers have been fabulous to me. In between setting up and camping for the first time I'd forgotten how to do a few things and Dion talked me through it. Next time I couldn't remember how to put part of the annex up and [name removed] came to the rescue. [name removed] is a cranky [word removed] and patience is not one of his virtues, but Dion is a star.
Third time camping I opened up and realised all my poles were rusted - they'd sweated in the bag because I didn't read the instructions and open the trailer cover after excessive rain (trailer was outside without a cover). I was quite upset because they looked pretty ugly. I rang and wanted to buy replacement poles and you know what Skamper did? Sent me a whole pole set at no cost. None. The rust was 100% user error, but they still helped me out.
The handle on my jockey wheel snapped - again, user error (wheel stuck and I kept winding it the wrong way). They replaced the whole jockey wheel! A few months out of warranty my tropical roof snapped and went flying during a horrendous storm (I saw tents go flying too). They replaced it!!!
I didn't buy the Skamper Kamper expecting it to be of the same quality as a Goldstream. It's not meant to be. It's got the best quality canvas that I've seen in its price range and a solid chassis. It kept me and my family dry during a lot of wet weather.
If you're after a great value camper I highly recommend it. If you want something with all the bells and whistles go pay $15,000 for one. They're both going to keep you dry but only one is going to hurt your pocket.
If you're a sensitive soul don't deal with cranky pants [name removed], talk to Dion - he's up front and knows his stuff. And so very, very patient.
And if you're wondering whether I got special treatment because I'm a hot single woman... nope, I'm a fat old bag with realistic expectations on what I was getting.
Shocking Sales Service – I was considering purchasing a Skamper Kamper Trailer and spoke to a sales man at one of the big shows in Sydney. He was rude and patronising in his responses to my questions about their trailer winches. I will be avoiding this brand based on that experience. Other manufacturers have provided me with a much better initial service.
Would make you consider the after sales service if that's pre sales?
