The most helpful staff yet! I wasn't sure how to use the app for our floor heating and Ben and Gerard spent time and patience helping me through. I couldn't be happier. What a terrific team at SmartHeat.

Experts in underfloor heating – We own a heritage property and needed a heating solution that worked within the boundaries of the existing (wall mounted) hydronic setup which is heated via the boiler from our wood fired Aga. Steve Kim and his team designed and implemented an underfloor heating system that is so much more efficient than the old setup. They were sympathetic to our… Read more

needs and the restrictions a 192 year old house presents. They were prompt, clean and only used premium European products. Our house is so much warmer with less energy and I would highly recommend Smartheat. Thankyou Steve & the Smartheat team.

Such a good result! – SmartHeat installed their system in our home 18 months ago, working seamlessly with other trades onsite. Through one summer, one winter and now a second summer, our house is toasty warm in winter and cool in summer. No residential air-conditioning system could match it for whole-of-house effect. We would recommend Steve Kim and his team at SmartHeat to any prospective buyer.

5 Star Woodfired Thermosyphon Commercial Hot Water System – 5/5 Customer Service, 5/5 Products - Couldn't be happier I recently purchased 3x 500L tanks from Steve at Smartheat. Steve was super helpful, and his schematics made it easy for my plumber to install into my wetback woodfire system. The tanks have added features to allow me to add solar heating in the future without the need to purchase new… Read more

tanks. The tanks service my shower block at my caravan park, allowing me to run 12 showers with the 3 tanks. The way they are designed I can shut tanks down depending on how many people I have to cater for - so in quiet times I only have to heat one tank (taking significantly less time and wood to do so). My system works very efficiently without the need for any pump (purely running from thermosyphon and having a system with no moving parts) which means very little can go wrong. I'm more than happy with my new system and its efficiency. I'm using less wood to heat the same amount of water and Steve is always happy to help out with any questions I have.

A professional company delivering great results – Smartheat has been doing our floor heating and domestic hot water systems for 15 years. Last year the heat pump servicing our floor heating began to fail and I spoke to Steve Kim of Smartheart who recommended their latest, updated pump. They installed it with their usual professionalism and now the floor heating works even better than the old… Read more

system did, which is saying a great deal as we were so happy with the performance of the old one. Not only is it more effective at heating our home but it also saves us money on our electricity bills. Thank you Steve! Thank you Smartheat!!

Smart Heat as a Sub Contractor for Underfloor Heating – Smart Heat did a project that I handled at East Village Shopping Center at Zetland, This is a massive underfloor heating for one of the commercial retail . Their Project Manager Bevin Hudson was excellent in programming the works and the tradesmen were professionals and knew exactly what they were doing. They have completed the contract on time… Read more

and have tested and commissioned the system without fail. I strongly recommend Smart Heat for a similar project, without reservation,

In-slab heating system for a cold climate - 20 degrees all day every day – I was surprised when a friend pointed out the review by SteveH, after they were doing some research for their new house build. They'd previously heard me rave about how good the system Smartheat installed in my house was and how I recommended it to a bunch of friends. I thought I'd like to add my opinion and thoughts about Smartheat. When… Read more

building our new house, we decided to go with Smartheat for our in-floor heating. It's been working perfectly for the last 4 years. When we've had questions, the Smartheat staff have been helpful in answering them to ensure everything works as it should.

It seems the problem he was having would most likely have been caused by turning it on and off again all the time, thus not allowing the slab to be heat-soaked. You need to allow the hot water to heat the mass of the concrete slab, which can take a few days when you first turn it on. Once the slab is up to temperature, it only needs little bursts of heat to keep the slab heat-soaked.

We leave the in-slab heating system on during winter as it's meant to be left on 24 hours per day. Note that this doesn't mean it runs the entire time. It just means that when the water temp drops below a certain temp (whatever you set it to), it'll kick in and warm the water again.

We've also got a solar electricity system hooked up to a battery, and have found that the power used to heat the house is only a small part of the overall power output per day of the solar system. The only time it works hard is for the first day or so after turning the system on at the beginning of winter (while it's heat-soaking the slab). The rest of the time it kicks in for 5-10 minutes at a time every few hours.

Every time someone visits during the colder months, we get comments on how warm the house is and how they wish they had in-slab heating. It's constantly 20 degrees. I'm able to wear shorts and t-shirt year round, while it might be literally freezing outside.

I would very highly recommend Smartheat, as we've had absolutely no problems with the system, and their staff have always been there with advice when needed.

Woeful Performance overall. Faults with equipment and installation plus terrible thermal performance – SmartHeat seemed to have no interest in thermal efficiency. Both Solar circuit and heat pump circuit were observed by us to be reverse thermosyphoning (cooling tank down overnight). They fixed this - eventually with one-way valves. Why weren't they in the original design? First heat pump delivered was not working correctly and not fit for… Read more

purpose very early on. After much insisting and phone calls by us they eventually replaced this with a unit of LESS nominal capacity. It does seem to be generating hot water though - hooray! Once operating, the system NEVER heated the floor in any adequate way. Even though the heat pump was heating water at over 50deg we were lucky to get water into the floor greater than 30deg. We were heating for over 10 hours per day and could not really warm the house. Nothing like what we were assured when they said we would get 50deg water into the floor Even though the manager would always take our calls and discuss the issues we were not able to get any satisfaction from them. Their answer was to turn the heat pump set temperature up, and operate the system 24 hours per day if needed i.e. "use more electricity". They blamed our "old school" hydronic piping in the slab saying it is very inefficient. In summary, they were unable to improve performance despite making many claims of how good their system was before the sale!! Needless to say we were not happy and not prepared to run the system for extended periods. It was not really heating the house. The domestic hot water required the electric booster to be run always if we had been heating the floor.

I would not recommend SmartHeat hydronics system to anyone for many reasons..

In an effort to get a warm house, we have independently installed a thermally efficient (unlike theirs) 200L buffer tank next to the heat pump. The heat pump now operates between 39-45deg heating that tank. A thermostat ensures they we only pump water when it is over 40deg. Guess what? When you put hot water into the floor the floor heats up! And currently we only heat for 8 hours per day! So much for our old inefficient hydronics piping!
