Bought a machine in 2022, ran fine for a while, then the cleaning cycle started taking longer and longer until eventually it just never finished. Called SMEG, the sent service repair, fixed it. Then 2 months later the same thing happened. SMEG replaced the machine. Ran fine, then 4 months ago the grinder spindle broke. Called for a service, they… Read more
took the machine away for 4 weeks to fix the spindlle. Returned it, today, cleaning cycle issue happens again. Not a bad machine WHEN it works, but will never buy one again.
Don’t buy this – Don’t buy this machine. Has been sent back for repairs 4 times in 1 year. Regularly gets jammed. Can’t see when water is low so it’ll just stop halfway through a brew. Coffee taste is mediocre: very little control over grind, no control over pressure. Would never buy this again. Show details

I love my beautiful Smeg – This is the first time I buy a Smeg product. I love the shape and the style. The coffee is outstanding and fair enough for my husband and me. The temperature of the coffee is exactly what we like and need. The only issue is the tray it has (and all the coffee makers have), and this is white because I love white, and all the Smeg is white. But the… Read more
tray is difficult to get it clean. It is not possible to get rid of some corners. I would like to know how to clean it. But anyway, I love it!
Great coffee machine but – We went to the Good Guys to look at another branded coffee machine (same as what I had at my work place) and a sales lady showed us the Smeg Bean to Cup Coffee Machine (not what we were looking at originally) - she showed us how easy it was to use, and explained the necessities needed to use the machine, she also mentioned it was easy maintenance.… Read more
And she was right - it was super easy to use, it makes great coffee (pending your coffee beans of course) and you really don't need much to use it... the downside is the maintenance. Once a week, a white light comes on. Once a month we have to descale the machine. The little black cup that the grinder coffee bean lands in and needs emptying - I will wash that out the night before, and sometimes after turning the machine on in the morning, the white light comes on and tells me it needs to be emptied/cleaned.
The coffee machine I had at work, was being descaled once every 6 months and it didn't tell me things needed emptying/cleaning if it didn't really need that. and yes, we wish we bought the one we were originally looking for.
So if the SMEG machine didn't come with a hefty price tag and wasn't such high maintenance, I'd give it a 5 star.
Broken machine – Purchased the machine few months ago and due to light come up frequently I’ve been descaling quite often. In the beginning descaling was an hour and half each time ( first one was just a week after purchase) and each time took longer and longer until last time after a while I turn the machine off the power. Turn the machine on again and again the… Read more
light came up for descaling! 3 hrs of descaling again!! Took the machine to Goodguys at Oxley and asked for replacement , they refused and according to their policy they can only send the machine for repair unless they get RA request from Smeg! That was 26th August 2023 and today is 5th October! I’m not happy with customer service from Goodguys and Smeg either. Tomorrow I’m going to ask for refund at Goodguys Oxley and if they don’t accept it I’ll leave the machine there and leave.
It's good until the dreaded descaling time – It's an okay machine until the dreaded descaling light comes on, where you have NO choice but to perform this so stated half an hour cycle, like Wazzles comment below we constantly have the same issue in that it rarely goes through a simple cycle, even as i write this it's still going through a descale cycle (for the 2nd time as i had to turn off… Read more
the power as it got stuck) nearly two hours later and i cant even get it to move on to the rinse cycle. and yes, i did read the instructions, it's a shame the program can't be over ridden , also if you do manage to eventually get past the half a day you have wasted in doing the tedious descale cycle , some may find this machine quite noisy which is not ideal if you have early risers in the house as it will wake everyone up. Almost wishing i stuck to De Longi. PS as i write this now all the lights are flashing and it will not stop humming, really start to regret this awful machine

Faulty within 12 months – Like others on here I am having the same issues regarding the sensor saying it needs the grinds empty even though it is empty. Prior to that it wasn’t alerting me that the grinds needed emptying. What annoys me is when I speak to smeg they say that I have to take it to a repairer for maybe a computer update or replacement when it is 12 months old.… Read more
I shouldn’t have to do this or go without a machine for weeks when I spent over $1100 on a machine. I’ve had a delonghi last 7 years without a hitch thought I’d go smeg for aesthetic reasons and replaced all my products however am disappointed I did.
2nd Machine has broken again! – Machine is stuck in endless loop of flushing after carrying out de-scaling. Same thing happened to last machine and Good Guys replaced it. It hasn't even been 12 months since I purchased first one. Show details

apropos to my review 03 Jan 2023 – A few months after use I discovered that the coffee ground container needed emptying frequently. Not only that, but it was also full more of water than coffee grounds. Help staff at Smeg instructed me to alter the grind setting. Friendly and rapid return to my help please email. I had set it to one extreme end of the grind control. After I set it… Read more
back a couple of notches, I now have dry coffee grounds in the container. I also have developed the milk creaming exercise quite well, but not the artistic decoration on top of the coffee cup. The change in design that I think would improve this machine is a double coffee spout. Apart from that----- Love this machine.
Unreliable – This machine fits asthetically with my other SMEG products on my benchtop. However I adjust the amount of coffee I want and it doesn't save it, when the machine turns off it goes back to what it was. The sensors do not function correctly, it tells me the grounds container is full when it has 1 in it, then it won't tell me at all and I find myself… Read more
cleaning up grounds all over my kitchen bench. This is not my first bean to cup coffee machine and it is most disappointing-my other machines (Delonghi) were more reliable however worn out. Now I find that the signs on top of the machine are fading and unreadable.Won't buy again.

Great compact coffee maker – I have a small kitchen and was looking for a better coffee experience than the bland plunger coffee. There were only 3 auto coffee machines that fulfilled the requirement of being small and I ended up eliminating the other two based on price and availability. The SMEG was easy to set up and perfect size and I loved that it was so stream lined and… Read more
easy to clean. I was worried about the noise as I have cats who usually scatter when they hear loud noises and they did scatter when I first used the machine but they gradually became used to it. It is a little noisy grinding the beans but I have no comparison with other grinders and I'm guessing you can't really get a low noise grinder. I didn't end up using the steam wand because I use rice-milk (for ethical reasons I don't use dairy) and it never froths up anyway so I don't know why I bought that model. The cats also scattered when I started up the steam wand and as I already had a separate noiseless milk frother I've been using that to heat up the milk instead. I've had no issues with the way it has operated or the containers or the machine itself, its all been very smooth operationally so I'm very happy with it on that front. But I do have a little issue though that has persisted - the coffee is very hot and tastes bitter. Don't get me wrong, I really like strong coffee, so it's not that, it actually tastes like the bad coffee you get in some places when they over heat the water. No matter how much I adjust the grind or change the type of bean I have to put in heaps of sugar to cancel the bitterness. Would this be from over-heating the water and if so, is there a way to adjust it please?
Simple and satisfying – I like a good coffee, in fact, I like about three a day. I cannot tolerate instant coffee but found I was spending far too much money and time hitting the cafes for a 'proper coffee'. In the end, I found an expensive 'pod' machine that provided an adequate caffeine fix and saved me some money. Problem was that it really wasn't a wonderful… Read more
coffee and although some brands recycle their pods, it's easy not to.
So I started looking for a fully automatic coffee machine. Initially, the prices made me cringe. Did I really have to spend a few thousand dollars just to get a good coffee? Reviews and technical information overwhelmed me and made me feel a bit silly. Did I need to do a barista course? Then I found the Smeg BCC02 with a steam wand. The price was fabulous, the look was the best I had seen and functionality seemed accessible to someone like me who doesn't want to do a local Tafe course to get results. So I purchased one.
I went to my local coffee roaster for some high-quality beans knowing that would certainly make a difference and went home to set up my machine. The instructions were easy, straight out of the box I was quickly making my first coffee. The machine is noisy but no more than you hear in a cafe. My first cup failed as the milk was not at all hot enough. My sensitive hands gave me a false impression that the milk was hot resulting in a disappointing lukewarm brew. My fault. So back to the shop for a milk thermometer. GAME CHANGER.
I now enjoy the beautiful taste and aroma of freshly made coffee every morning, noon, and night. My Smeg machine is pretty, easy to operate, and produces a fabulous cup of coffee. I am a flat white or latte girl and easily produce something at a standard higher than the fast-food chains and just maybe a little less than my local hipster cafe, but I'm ok with that.
I have had no issues so far with the machine. It alerts me when the water or beans have run out or the coffee grinds need an empty. One thing I noticed is when using the milk frother there is an inbuilt timer that is designed to heat the milk to the correct temperature. For me who drinks a small coffee and therefore uses a smaller amount of milk, I did find this heated it too far leaving the milk burnt. This was easily resolved with the milk thermometer and I have had no issues since.
If you are looking for an affordable, attractive, and fabulous tasting automatic coffee machine that isn't going to break your budget then this is the one. It won't disappoint.
Really happy, no fuss – Can anyone help with the one glitch that has surfaced please. We seem to have an "overgrind" issue or the tamping process is causing grounds to spill out at the rear which has introduced a more frequent cleaning issue ?? Show details · 2

Ease of use Excellent ! A little overpriced tho – Brought this unit on ease of use as for 2 people's requirements . Took a little to get the settings just right , but once sorted & using the correct beans ( you need to use Lavazza 9/10 intensity ) so as not to get a Watery coffee & extract the best flavour from the bean's when you set the grinder to fine grinding . There are some little… Read more
annoyances , wand does move forward or a tad too short , sensor for bin grounds a tad finicky , bean container a little small , a few more settings or options would have been nice , but I can live with these easily ! Build quality very good for a Small footprint model , quite a sleek modern look a definite plus , steam function does work very well even for making capachinos . If you're not getting the best results from this machine then I'd say do an online demo with a representative to help !
Only real grievance is the price I purchased for $1199 & got the Smeg jug included & redemption 1kg bean bag . Price should be around $899 considering features & internal size restrictions . But still very happy with purchase as have been using it daily so would definitely recommend this unit if the price dropped a little .
Not a great machine – Despite looking nice, this machine is extremely over priced & the coffee is so weak and watery even after playing around with the settings! Holds a very small amount of beans and the steam wand is very awkward as it only moves side to side. Would not recommend at all. Show details
Best Coffee Machine I have owned – By far the simplest coffee machine that I have ever owned. I have had every different one including pods and many automatic bean types and this is the easiest one to clean and not nearly as bossy as most of them. Very user friendly, looks great with a simple wipe over and when you nail all the settings including the size of the coffee, you can't… Read more
fault it. I don't use the milk wand so can't comment. We have multiple users so I need a simple fail safe machine and this ticks all the boxes. We have had it for a month without any issues.
I love it a lot but there are a couple of issues – I wish you could adapt the strength better. I usually use two shots to get desired strength. Sensor for when coffee bin is full now comes on every time I turn it on even if it’s empty which is annoying because you have to pull the drawer out and wait till it flashes which is supposed to clear the sensor but it doesn’t AND I’ve never had an alert when low on beans. Just a weak pour which makes me check it Show details
Great machine with a couple of minor issues – Overall I think this is a great machine. I upgraded after using a Nespresso pod machine for many years. I wanted to move to a machine that took beans, but didn’t want a whole heap of parts and infrastructure to go with it. So this automatic machine appealed. It is stylish, easy to use, easy to clean, and makes a really great coffee. There are… Read more
however a couple of minor issues that have caused me to drop one star. They aren’t show-stoppers, but given that this is by no means a cheap machine, I would have expected a little better:
— There is a sensor to let you know when the amount of beans are getting too low and need to be topped up. However, this usually only lights up too late. When you are low on beans, it sometimes grinds what is left into a really weak shot and pours it first before letting you know you’re low on beans. If you don’t notice this, the result is a really weak cup of coffee. Very hard to notice if you’re poring a double shot and don’t notice the watery colour at the time. I would have expected that this sensor would kick in sooner and stop you from being able to pour a weak shot.
— The sensor for the coffee grounds bin is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes I can pour one shot and it tells me the bin is full. Other times I can pour 4 shots before it tells me it is full. When this sensor comes on, the machine won’t let you do anything else until it is emptied. This can slow things down significantly if you’re making a few cups and need to constantly empty. The bin seems to have a lot more capacity than the sensor sometimes allows for.
— Linked to the above point, when the coffee grounds bin alert is on, you can’t do anything else - including using the milk steamer. This can be very annoying. Assume you’re making 2 cups of coffee which need 4 shots in total. You pour out the coffee and then want to steam the milk. At this point I’d usually rather steam the milk while the shots are fresh, pour the coffees, and clean up later. But the machine disables the milk steamer until you empty the grounds bin if it thinks it’s full. Meaning that while I do this, the shots of coffee sit cooling down before I can steam the milk. Would have been better if they let you use the milk steamer even if the grounds bin is full.
Once again - these aren’t show stopping points, but are small annoyances for the price point. I’d still recommend the machine as it makes a great cup, the milk steamer is really effective, and it looks brilliant.
Ticks all the boxes! – I bought this machine before there were reviews anywhere, so it was a leap of faith. I'm so glad I did... What a brilliant machine! Stylish, compact and It makes great coffee with a minimum of fuss. There are different settings for strength and quantity. Filling the bean compartment and water tank is so easy. Self cleans when starting up and… Read more
turning off. Frothing the milk is manual and takes some practice, but straightforward. The inclusion of a milk jug would have been helpful, but it's not a deal breaker. I highly recommend this bean to cup machine
