My SMEG CIR93AXS 90cm cooktop came with my new build just over 3 years ago and has been nothing but trouble since the beginning. The auto ignition sometimes doesn’t work and then other times it works straight away. You have to hold down the gas lever for ages (30 seconds or more) and let the igniter still keep clicking away for it to continue… Read more

working otherwise it does not ignite. Then the gas will just go out mid-way of cooking, it is so frustrating. This happens across all the burners. It has now come to a point where it won’t ignite at all. My advice is to stay away from SMEG cooktops! I had left a review on SMEG’s website but has since been deleted so now I wanted to share my experience.

The worst cooktop and brand on the market – Got this cooktop with two other appliences in our new house in end of 2021. The oven broke 3 times during the warranty. The dishwasher and cooktop stopped working after less than 3 years usage. The repair for the cooktop was Au$330 and the part for the dishwasher over Au$650 without labor. Don't buy smeg or you will endup paying lots of money for repair.

Problematic SMEG cooktop – I purchased my brand new house in 2012 and it came a brand new Smeg CIR93AXS 90cm topmount gas cooktop and it has been nothing but trouble from the beggining! The auto ignition system works for some burners and not for others. You have to continue to hold the gas lever down for over 30 seconds or more before the system registers that the gas is… Read more

in fact lit (while the igniter system is clicking away trying to light the gas). Only then can you release the gas lever without the gas going out.

Only 2 burners work well out of 5 burners. The other 2 burners stay lit for 2-3 minutes then switches off and 1 burner does not even light up.

I saw another post on this website with the same problem I have and I decided say my piece. My advice is to stay away from SMEG cooktops.

Happy customer – Bought what is essentially, from what I can tell, the same model in 1995 .the only visible difference being the grids being of slightly different construction. That hob has worked like a charm for 22yrs of solid use and still going strong . Have bought one for our lake house with no problems so far.  Show details

Gas flow issue – Cannot get gas to flow no matter how long I depress the knobs. Problem lasts for few days and then it starts working again. Usually happens after oven (located below) is used. Thinking of replacing it with a better brand. Stove was provided by the builder of my new home. Has happened several times over the last few years.  Show details

SMEG Gas Cooktop - not worth the price – I purchased my Smeg CIR93AXS 90cm topmount gas cooktop just over 2 years ago and it has been nothing but trouble ever since, as is pretty much the case with the rest of my Smeg kitchen appliances! The auto ignition system works when it wants too and when it does and the gas ignites, you have to continue to hold the gas lever down for up to 20… Read more

seconds before the system registers that the gas is in fact lit (while the igniter system is still madly clicking away trying to light the gas). Only then can you release the gas lever without the gas going out. There is also an issue with a couple of the gas taps where you have to wiggle them to get the gas to start flowing.

I have now resorted to buying an electric kettle, as its much easier than having to deal with this below average Smeg appliance on a daily basis.
