Looks good / oven dangerous – We bought this cooker 6 years ago and it looks great, and the stove top works well but the oven is problematic and potentially dangerous. Quite scary, and if left alone for any length of time could be very dangerous, especially for small children touching the oven door. The controls become unresponsive and nothing will turn it off, so you have to turn power off at the mains board.
We've had this fixed twice, and at our expense, as we are out of warranty. And now it's happening again for a third time. I thought Smeg were hardworking, reliable European products but not so sure with our experience.
Fantastic cooker even better than my Falcon range that I waited 6 months for. Easy to use and easy to clean – Brilliant and easy to clean. My Falcon range (cooktop) became pitted within a year. The SMEG cooks perfectly and evenly and heats super fast. Just a joy to cook in. Show details

oven was extremely hot. Oven sounded like an airplane taking off and strong toxic smell filled the kitchen. It was very fortunate that I walked into the kitchen at that very moment and was able to quickly turned the oven power off at the main board before anything far more serious happened, like oven caught on fire and burned the whole house down. This was the most frightening experience I’ve ever had. I’m still after few days coming to terms of what could’ve happened if I wasn’t there at that moment.
Smeg Customer service was not helpful and extremely poor because oven being 5 years old is not under warranty that was that to them. It was no matter of concern or urgency to send someone out to investigate what could have possibly coursed such unusual and dangerous event (I was to wait two week for a technician) specially after saying that they haven’t had a case like this and could not explain the problem.
After asking if there was any possibility to send someone sooner didn’t hear back until next day.The next day when they finally contacted me still I was to wait two weeks but this time someone would come with a part to fix the oven if I PAY for it. Thair response left me disappointed and very concern, no oven under warranty or not should be turning itself on and pose such big safety issue. Not happy at all with Smegs response.
My husband convinced me to try to turn the main oven switch back on to see what will happen, we put the thermometer in the oven too as soon as the switch was on, oven started heating up and after 10 or so minutes inside the oven heated up to 275C(max on the oven is 260C) and the right fan gradually turned red as on the picture this didn’t trigger the oven to turn off not waiting any longer we turned it off.

spacing between them all, we love the teppanyaki plate and also the cast iron grill plate that came with it.
After 6 or 7 months the oven wouldn't heat to more than 150C (thermostat issue ?) and soon after the digital lights on the clock / timer stopped working. Despite this, the rest of the functions have been fine and so long as we don't need to cook hotter than 150 or so its ok :-)
I saw the reviews here and noticed how responsive and proactive Steve Cullen (national service manager for SMEG) was so I dropped him an email outlining my experience with the oven. Steve has been fantastic in assisting us to have the oven repaired. Amazing customer service and super responsive (thanks a million!).

an hour or two, I received a phone call from the Smeg local agent in Tasmania, Suzanne who was extremely helpful and sent me an email shortly after to confirm our conversation. When our electrician arrived he said he'd installed many of the same Smeg cookers and never had an issue which thankfully was the same for us. The clock and the oven worked perfectly and the oven heats up in about the same time as my previous oven which I'm happy about. The size is amazing and coming from an electric cooktop, I'm over the moon with gas. This is the first product review I have ever written but I thought it was only fair to say my dealings have been very good with Smeg and to thank Steve and Suzanne for being so attentive. I'll try to do another update in a few months to see if I still feel the same, fingers crossed.
May 6th 2017 Update: Still loving my Smeg!
This is an update on the review I wrote in October 2016 about my Smeg which I have now been using for nearly 12 months and I'm still loving it. The instructions are clear and it is easy to clean which is one of the reasons I liked the look of this model. As this is my secondary oven, I haven't used it many times because I find the wall oven has better access without having to bend but it is excellent when I'm baking on bigger trays, there is so much capacity. The cook-top has been great too and also easy to clean, overall I'm still very happy with this product.
Very dissapointed with product and customer service – I don't like writing reviews however I really felt as if I had to for my smeg oven. We bought a smeg oven which was supposedly "the best" of the ovens however I have never had so many problems with a new appliance in all my life. brand new oven - faulty?? you have got to be joking. I called up the customer service team for smeg to get a technician out - surprise surprise there were no technicians available until the next week! My husband then called and all of a sudden there was a technician available the next working day.
Which was fine, they came and "fixed it" in which it did run smoothly, then ONLY a week later I had a couple of friends and family over to show my new smeg oven off and half way through the electrics had cut out. I had to throw away the food which was half cooked!!!!! not impressed at all. When I called for another technician to come out, once again, surprise surprise the technicians were ALL busy! I now do not have an oven/stovetop to cook food for my family until another couple of days, in which once AGAIN i have to take time off work so another technician can come and fix it.
Really not happy with the results as I was not even offered any kind of compensation and definitely will NOT recommend a smeg oven to anyone.

whether unique to Smeg, but it seems twice as fast as newish ovens ive used in the past.
Heat is nice and even, it does seem to cook a little quicker than recipes recommend, so you just need to be aware of this when in use so as not to burn any items.
I haven't used the steam clean function as yet. This was a selling point for me as well as the reliability of the unit. All good so far.
One trick to note is you need to set the clock after plugging it in, otherwise it appears to not work.
Great oven – This oven was purchased as a package with a range hood. The oven has been fantastic and cooks really well. In the past year I have had to replace one of the rear elements as well as one of the internal light globes but both were relatively cheap. Oven does sometimes cook a little uneven as do many fan forced ovens but by rotating the food this is not an issue. Show details
Worth buying – Very good oven considering the price. Previously had a blanco and that was the worst oven/stove ever, it was part of package with builders on our new home and it lasted the longest from all the blanco appliances, blanco oven lasted just over two years and I replace it with smeg oven and the smeg is heaps better considering the smeg is cheaper. service told me ovens cannot catch fire. He came to look at the oven and replaced one faulty fan in the oven. He did not replace the other fan. He spent more time telling me how to clean the oven and stove...which was clean!
The oven makes a noise whenever I use the fan forced option and the stainless steel surrounding the burners has marked badly. A simple wipe or stainless steel steel does not remove the marks.
Overall, I won't be recommending Smeg or Good Guys.

Looks Good Functions Average – This came with our newly purchased house. Worst oven ever – Where do I start? Within a few months the temperature and other markings had all rubbed off. The oven doesn’t heat consistently or hold temperature (I use an internal oven thermometer to set temp). It overheats when set on high then switches itself off to cool, so you can’t do anything that requires a hot oven. Clock is unreadable. Was so disappointed with this. Premium price but not a premium product – I have owned this oven for 6 years. In this time I have replaced the rear oven elements twice. I am now currently using only one rear oven element because the oven will only allow 1 element to turn on. Recently my wife accidentally broke the front oven door. replacement costs were over $500. to fix the door. I thought the door would come as a single complete unit, but I was wrong. Smeg offers that you pay for each individual item related and it's not cheap.
The top gas burners are still going strong. I love the spit feature in the oven and overall the oven still looks modern and functions adequately.
For the price I paid ($3000) I expected more and therefore I cannot recommend this product.

Good value for your money – Oven is great in the aspect it does exactly what it says with all features. Food is always cooked really well however sometimes it cooks quicker then the recipe says (this is not a complaint). Heats up quickly but takes a while to cool down. Smeg absolute garbage – What a shocker. Oven fan conked out twice. Different burners sometimes impossible to light. Many times burners would turn themselves off. Smeg never again – Moved into a brand new house as the first occupance 4 yrs ago. Every year someone has had to come and fix my wok burner. Now my fan oven has packed it in. Oven stopped working after 10 months – We previously had the equivalent Smeg stove for 12 years without problems. It eventually stopped working so we replaced it with another Smeg. Same old problem – Had the Technician come to do the repair. He replaced the control board. Now the convection fan and elements are working and the top burner But the Bake Convection selection will not heat up the oven in any sort of useful time. We understand that products may not be 100% all of the time, and as with any appliance, there can be some faults or issues along the way, but the reassuring thing is that the customer service team at Smeg were excellent in making sure any issues were rectified quickly with very minimal disruptions to us.
Would highly recommend the product to any of my family or friends. Great to know that their customers are well looked after and valued.
Common fault not working brand new :( – Others have reported the same fault... No power to clock display and oven will not work. Unit was purchased from appliances online and dead on arrival. highly disappointed. If your willing to risk a new oven that's arrives faulty go ahead.... Will probably stick to Westinghouse Australian brand... Italians were never good at auto electrics in the Alfas and their ovens seem to be the same...
Great cooktop Terrible oven – If you don't need an oven, this product is highly recommended. If you want to use the oven then don't buy a Smeg. The oven on these models takes nearly half an hour to reach 180 degrees, and if you make the mistake of opening the door, it takes another 10 minutes to get back up to temperature.

great oven – Nice oven...and so it should be for the price! Not too happy that it has plastic legs but so far so good. Lots of space which i love and heats up really quickly. Not too happy that the surrounds around the gas burners as they are easily stained with spillage..i cant figure out how to clean it. I never regret – I bought this dual fuel from Good guys. I love this oven because it has massive cook-top space where I can leave cooked pans, pots, wok etc. The oven is electric therefore it is easy to set a correct temperature and cook top is gas therefore it is quick to heat up and suitable for Asian cooking. Space nothing
