SMEV 2 Burner Stove Cook Top

Quality – SMEV uses mild steel components, which of course rust over time. Screws, clips etc, all mild steel. Which of course limits the life span of the stove, and because the cost of these component replacements, it is cheaper to buy a new stove.
Warranty service discussing – I have been waiting for a long time to have my warranty fixed in fact still waiting terrible customer service Show details
17 years on and still working well – This stove came with our 2005 Pioneer Argyle camper trailer that we bought 2nd hand in 2012. It has worked well over the years and only now am I replacing the screws that hold the black enamel lid on the burners. The photo shows the burner lid off and awaiting its new screws. Easy to clean and great for cooking out doors. When it’s windy I surround it with a screen. A very good product. Show details
Not had a problem yet. Used for two years – Purchased in 2019 and used in our van when we could in these times. We have had great results with cooking and just use a guard to block wind if needed. We also have sink. All working well. BUT having problems with the lid button cushions coming off. Out of 8 we have lost 7. Hence the 4 star review not 5. How can I fix replace them with… Read more
something that won’t come off and scratch glass. Great easy to clean product and very pleased with it so far. We have the 3 burner cooktop.
burners do not stay lit – Its had this problem since new, if you hold burners lit, they stay on, sometimes. I also have a 4 burner in my cabin, and it also has problems staying lit, the over has trouble lighting Show details
Not suitable for marine environment – I have been silly enough to buy two of these lemons. (7000 with series 3 burners.) The tops seize up with rust and the gas seize as well. The screws Aristide up and have to be drilled out. The stoves will operate for 2 or 3 years (with care). Then they must be replaced as parts are impossible go source in Australia and I cannot find the country or location of manufacture. This is an inexpensive item. Show details
Poorly made – Same problems as others! 1. Burner(s) won't stay alight intermittently. 2. Screws rust in to top plate and have to be drilled out. SMEs do sell replacement screws at about $3 each! The stoves look neat but have too many problems. Also ignition switch keeps failing, sometimes only lasting about 3 months. Also very expensive to replace. Show details
Good for two year then – Same as previous reviews. Flame on one burner won´t stay ignited when knob is released. Gas volume on other burner is restricted resulting in only the lowest flame. Screws have rusted and simply shear off when trying to remove them. This is not good when travelling through central and south america where there are no options for replacements
Gasout – The gasout protection on our Smev two burner camper stove continuously cuts out the gas flow after the burner has been lit and we let go of the gas knob. Holding the gas knob 'on' for extended periods mostly works but did not work on the larger burner by the end of our most recent trip. Sometimes the gas is cut off even when the burner has been… Read more
operating successfully for a while. The problem has been greatest on the larger of the two burners, which is a damn nuisance when trying to get the kettle to boil on a cold morning. I have had some success with unscrewing the top burner plate and cleaning anything I can get at. However it does not last. Also, the two retainer screws are corroding badly and may not last much longer. Why did Smev not use stainless steel screws for this function??? In view of the problem and no obvious fix I can only give the burner a 'poor' rating despite being a nice little unit when it is working properly. Tidy compact unit. Easy to clean. Good when working. Gas won't stay on when being lit. Rusting retaining screws.
Minor part makes it useless, especially in salt water boats – Got this stove as a replacement for my imported Japan camper. The 2 and 3 burner stoves from SMEV appear to be good quality, easy to clean, good gas adjustment...... but what you would not expect: each burner is hold together with two long screws, which rust after a few month when in contact with plain fresh water, which happens, next to the… Read more
sink, or when water cooks over.
They rust that bad, that you wont be able to get them out after a while.
They rust, and are of a special type, with crown top, and thinner than possible replacements in that length. I asked Withworth in Sydney, what to do, and they sent me to the next stainless screw shop.
If you try to use a screw that length, it will be wider, and has to be forced through 2-3 hart sheets, also the head wont fit that well.
So a pretty stupid drama with a stove in that price range.
I noticed also, after a year of only little use, that sometimes the sparks are not developing easier on the right, or left burner, the distance to the burner is fine. Don't know, how to cope with that, yet.
Its just not that easy to send it in for a replacement, due its gas connection Good design, easy to clean Rusting screws of a special type, electronic spark problems
