Affordable product and easy to assemble. My daughter and I put it together in a couple of hours with basic tools. Staff from Somerzby were easy to contact and were knowledgeable, helpfull and friendly. They provided excellent guidance which helped us easily complete the assembly. Show 2 replies
Warning to anyone considering a Somerzby chicken coop or outdoor animal enclosure If you’re thinking about buying a Somerzby product for your chickens or other animals, I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere. In my experience, their enclosures are not built to handle outdoor conditions — even mild weather or light wind. I purchased mine back in… Read more
2023 and only recently assembled it after finding the ideal, protected spot in our orchard, surrounded by established fruit trees. Despite being in a sheltered area, the coop started bending almost immediately from light wind. After straightening it a few times, it eventually flipped completely over from what I’d call just a small gust — nothing significant.
For what I paid, it’s incredibly disappointing. I contacted Somerzby, hoping they’d stand by their product, but was told that because I purchased it in 2023 — even though it was brand new, unused, and kept safely in its box until recently — my warranty was void.
If you’re after something solid, durable, and genuinely suitable for outdoor use, I wouldn’t recommend Somerzby. Their products simply aren’t built to withstand the elements, and their customer service was very disappointing
I contacted Somerzby enquiring about purchasing a coop. As a result of the conversation, the same day I purchased one of their coups for $735. Two days late it went on sale for 15% off. I was disappointed the customer service rep hadn't mentioned it was about to go on sale. That's over $100 difference in price! Given I hadn't actually received my… Read more
order, I made contact asking if they could honour the sale price. It was a solid NO. I feel ripped off, especially after I received the coup and discovered the quality.... (separate 1 star review of the coup itself)
This company is money hungry and not at all the fair and reasonable Aussie business I though I was supporting.
Also, once received the coop came in a "Coops & Cages" branded box. If you're set on one of the coops on the Somerzby website, I suggest you buy direct from Coops & Cages rather than the reseller Somerzby.

I wish I had paid more attention to the reviews before making a second purchase, especially around after sale assistance. A few months ago, we bought the Estate chicken coop and have been happy with its structure, aside from the ramp being too steep for our silkies. So we decided to buy the Cottage coop, thinking it would be a better fit and it… Read more
was cute and you could choose a colour. After placing our order, we even received a friendly email thanking us for being repeat customers. Unfortunately, this is where the positives end. The coop assembly was straightforward enough, lots of black scuff marks over the paint work. The real disappointment, however, lies in the nesting box. Unlike the Estate’s enclosed design, the Cottage’s nesting box has wide gaps in the floorboards, allowing all the pet bedding wood shavings to fall straight through. We ended up losing a significant amount of pet bedding nightly—this is not only frustrating but costly. This was also leaving chicken poo all over the floorboards and if scraping it off, removes the paint. When I contacted the company, I was told this was a “normal design feature.” Disappointingly, the internal nesting box layout isn’t pictured or mentioned anywhere on their website—had I known about this design, I wouldn’t have purchased it. Their solution was to line the floor with paper or similar disposable material, which is neither practical nor sustainable for us - we never receive nor buy papers anymore and I would imagine this would be a terrible mess after chickens have scratched around on it. The nesting box appears to be constructed from varying widths of wood, creating aligned gaps. Despite raising the issue, there was no offer of a partial refund or replacement, just use paper to cover the slats and roll up every day and throw out. We're now left to fix the issue ourselves. Initially, we had planned to buy the extension for the Estate coop, but after this experience, we’ll be exploring alternative ways. Sadly, what we thought was a great local Australian business has not lived up to expectations. Polite apologies don’t count for much when there’s no action to address clearly avoidable problems. As the saying goes: you get what you pay for.

Stop replying to emails when you request reimbursement or replacement of broken items – If I could put zero I would. Wish I read reviews before purchasing. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. They stopped responding to me when I have asked for a replacement of the damaged items as they would not comply with a reimbursement, as per consumer law. Damaged items include cracked wood, puttied up wood, seeping… Read more
roof, mangled mesh wire and screws poking out as per pics! They are trying to pass off clearly damaged items and poor workmanship as "minor issues" that don't need replaced. Other reviews seem to be the same, so they clearly are just getting away with it. If anybody else is reading this and wants to do a class action against them, I would be happy to participate. This company needs to be taught a lesson. They do not comply with consumer law. Pass themselves off a as a "family business" that care about animals - they're just in it for the money, cheap product for high prices. Also refused to take my call and hung up on me. I hope someone reads this and changes their mind about this product and does not purchase it.

Didn't last past a year and company refuses to honour consumer guarantees – Product not fit for purpose. "Mansion" coop started to rust and rot within a year. After one year, the coop had rotted/rusted to the point where the hutch floor had rusted through and had a large hole, the sliding door of the hutch fell off, and the side of the nest box roof fell off so the nest box was no longer secure (a worry for foxes).… Read more
Contacted Somerzby after 14 months and they said they were surprised to hear it had rotted as it is made from rot resistant materials and offered to send me instructions on how to replace the floor using Bunnings materials, but when I asked how we can resolve the nestbox issue, I was told to email photos. After I emailed photos I received a response stating that as Somerzby don't sell replacement parts and as they have no extended warranty, they couldn't help (so basically they were just trying to get me off the phone earlier). When I asked for them to resolve the issue and referenced Consumer Guarantees under Australian Consumer Law that say products should last, they sent me their Ts and Cs (which funnily enough reference Consumer Guarantees). I pointed this out but they just doubled down & said they won't help as it had been more than 12 months. Obviously, a chicken coop should last longer than 12 months. Do not buy from them! Poor quality and no understanding or care for Consumer Law or even their own Ts & Cs.
