Great Secondhand tv – Bought this tv from Cashies 3 yrs ago has been perfect , except for a software glitch l had awhile back. Was turning off and on on a repeat cycle. With the last update is fine since for 18 months now. Would never buy a new tv, because they are not built like they use to. Show details
Sony Brand Compromising Health and Safety in liue of discount – Hi My Sony Bravia TV had fallen from the table. Model no KD-55X7000D Ser No 7024778 I spoke to the customer care representative and I was informed that I should get a call back in 24 hours. I have not received it. I thought it is better to send an detailed email explaining the problem and let Sony know how the customer is suffering in this… Read more
trying times due to COVID 19
My Sony TV fell down from the TV table, the stand was crack. This is completely not accepted from the company which has his esteem and pride in delivering TV’s over the last 30 years. When I called the customer care I was told that physical damage is not considered for a stand and they will offer an trade in discount.
This was the most shocking part of the customer care.
I have a 3 year old son and he plays around, imagine he would be playing around and the TV fell on him, what fatality would have occurred ? Does Sony the consequence and the Health and Safety aspect about it ?
It was so much frustrating and irritating to hear from Sony that we will offer tradein discount to make customer happy when the whole issue is Health and Safety of the well being,
The human loss I would have envisaged would be not matchable by any discount you offer ? Does this make sense to Sony ? You are offering 25% against my son’s life ? Is this how to treat your customer ?
I will not accept this level of non-sense. You need to understand that safety is compromised ?
The TV stand is part of the overall TV and I have extended product warranty. The representative tells me that you will get a discount and not understanding if there would be a causality or a fatality.
It is frustrating and very disgusting response from Sony TV
It is frustrating and very disgusting to see this type of insensitivity to deal with an impending and high handedness which could mar someone’s life and an international repute company exchanging discounts.
Still going strong after 8 years – We have had no issues with this TV but just upgrading to a newer one after 8 years, I think it cost us around $2000 in the day. We have added all sorts of extra apps to it during this time. For the age we were happy with the TV, Sont must be in the top 3 TV manufacturers. Show details

Rubbish - very poor design, quality and reliability – Jan 19 Update Software updates appear to have fixed the wireless connectivity issues. I now have a Chromecast from my PC which I never had before, but at least I do not have to login to my WiFi network each time I switch it on, so a lot happier than when I first wrote this. ******************************************* I purchased this TV seven… Read more
months ago. It has to be one of the biggest disappointments of all my tech purchases. I have always held in high regard Sony products and owned many over the years, but I consider this TV to be a total piece of JUNK! If you buy this TV then I think you are flushing your money down the toilet.
Pros
Picture quality and sound are good.
Aesthetics are pleasing to the eye and narrow bezel.
Cons
Remote does not work well, you often have to mash buttons multiple times to get them to work, changing batteries makes no difference.
Mira screen casting only works when it wants to, which is 50% of the time.
The remote buttons are not intuitive, of the six key menu buttons only the TV and back buttons make any sense.
The on-screen user interface is confusing and trying to find things can be like trying to a find needle in a haystack.
The software is slow, it can take a long time to make simple screen transitions and sometimes it just hangs.
This is an Android TV but don't expect it to work like your Android phone. It is very unreliable and the apps crash a lot! The Netflix app is very unreliable. The other day I came home and the TV had switched itself on during the day etc.
You only get a very small selection of apps and they are not that well designed for the TV. There is a Google search bar with a microphone button so you can speak to search. However this does not work, I assume you have to buy a microphone. I don't know there is nothing to say that you have to do this.
It took forever to get my VCR working as the VCR connection instructions were not correct, so wiring was a game of try every combination of random connections until you find one that works.
The Wi-Fi connection has given me endless trouble despite being line-of-sight to a high-end modem which is less than 4 metres away. It keeps losing the connection each time you turn the TV off, so you have to sign in every time to use it. The help menu is useless for troubleshooting, after trying everything, I put in a support call to Sony, who advised I should turn off IPv6 on the TV. This has only partially fixed it and is puzzling given I have an IPv6 modem and ADSL IPv6 connection, so sounds like another bug in the TV. I am still losing the connection 50% of the time, so you need to go to settings and re-enter your password each time. This is doubly frustrating as the on-screen keyboard is accessed from the remote and when you select a letter/number you may have to press the buttons on the remote numerous times just to get it to register one keystroke.
I do not have any good things to say about this TV and reiterate that it was a waste of money for me. I think it is a total piece of junk that will drive one close to insanity with its unreliability and dysfunctional user interface. Which is a shame because the sound and picture quality are good.
2/7/18 Sony appeared to have released a software update for this TV in late 2017 and this has resolved the Wi-Fi connectivity issues and app crashes, but I have found that it still will sometimes switch itself on without prompting.
Almost perfect – Pros: 1..Greyscale is among the best I have seen on any TV. My test file of Harry Potter in the dark forest shows the forest floor and various details which some competitors fail to show apart from a dark scene. To achieve perfect greyscale on this Sony (using a HOME source), I adjusted Action/Picture/Advanced/Black Level and increased to 65%.… Read more
Being a Smart TV each input has its own settings so if, for example you have a TV Box HDMI source which outputs a low brightness, you can compensate the same way but increase to eg 75%.
Many movies have up to 20% of content in dark scenes, a set with poor greyscale shows dark and no low-light detail.
2..Android O/S IMHO is the best for allowing the user to choose what applications they want to use. There are negatives to Sony implementation though.
3..Some users complain of slow boot time, but new firmware obviates this problem and boot takes about 30 seconds.
4..Colour has always been a Sony strong-point and this set continues this great colour accuracy tradition.
5..My previous Sony, a KDL-46EX500 had a respectable picture, albeit with lack of luminescence/brightness and average black levels.
Even though this KD-55X7000D is Sony low-end model of UHD, black levels and brightness are excellent.
6..Netflix is a featured app, and works perfectly.
7..Product Support: I have been contacting Sony support and unlike some other reviewers comments have found their support good.
8..Specified refresh rate is 50hz, but Tech support advises its 100hz (better) as well as the 200hz Motionflow gives great sports and action response.
Cons:
1..A few USB files will not play. Initially I found many wouldn't play, but this was caused by a slow bitrate MicroSD card source. Otherwise some AVI files (MPEG4/DX50) and .TS files wouldn't play with the default video player. To play all files you need to go to Play Store and download the VLC player, and set that as the default player. This is disappointing that Sony has not sorted their default player. Especially that .TS format is a standard codec that should be compatible with any modern player.
2..If you install an app from Play Store, sometimes it wont appear in the main menu. To open you have to go to Settings/Apps and open from there which is frustrating. I also found there were plenty of apps which simply would not install, however, the important ones most users would want do work fine. Because of this limitation, I have to use an external TV Box to stream video from these apps to Sony TV.
3..There are some things on the Home Screen which are plain annoying and advert based. *Some you can disable by going to Settings/Apps. 'Game Shop' can be disabled. Sony should pull their socks up here. After all a user buys a set for their enjoyment, not for the supplier to push ads in their face. Some Apps are not advert based, but are just annoying as you may not want them showing.
New Zealanders: If you want to use TVNZ on Demand, that will not install; unfortunately TVNZ have never made a decent implementation of this app which fails on most of my other equipment also.
4..If you connect an external USB Hard Drive with videos etc the Android system wont let you write to the device unless its initialized. This means that a perfectly good USB drive has to be formatted (killing all contents). This would seem to be an Android OS problem, but the same HD can be connected to a Android TV Box with no issues.
5..I have a wireless Air Mouse/Keyboard which works on everything else but with the Sony TV its defective eg Exit, Enter and some other keys do not function. This is probably my greatest issue with this set.
6..HDR seems an afterthought in this model insofar as you enable it in HDMI settings.
7..No integrated DVB-S/satellite tuner.
Summary:
Im a retired TV and computer design tech with over 20 years experience servicing TV.
Prior to buying, I tried LG and Samsung models but the Sony stood out as the best overall IMHO.
With the Sony BRAVIA KD-55X7000D you are getting an exceptionally good product with plenty of hardware inputs (except RGB) and almost flawless operation. Despite its low end price, it gives great accuracy with the technicians 'Philips PM5644 test pattern'. In actual use sound is good, with excellent picture quality, and that's the bottom line.
*Tweaks:
If you want to tidy up the cluttered Home screen, you can do the following at your own risk:
Get Rid of the "Featured Apps" Section Go to Settings -> Apps, Look for an app called "Sony Shelf", Force Close it, Set Notifications to "Off", Clear Data.
Get Rid of the "Sony Select" App and its Recommendations, Go to Settings -> Apps, Look for an app called "Sony Select", Force Close it, Set Notifications to "Off", Clear Data.
Alter "Recommendations" bar: Settings/System/Home Screen/Recommendations Click on a recommendation to remove dot or to include click to add dot.
Best by reputation Best by use – The model had "shop appeal" from the word go. Slim and having a small footprint on a stand. The unpack and assembly were as simple as ABC. I liked the large foam packers that slipped away in big pieces. An easy re-store in the box for shifting house again. The tv stand is clearly 'designed' to hold the unit but with a minimal appearance. We don't… Read more
plan to spend much time looking at it.
The brand. Sony equipment was used extensively in the tv stations I worked in for many years. It was appreciated for excellence in electronic design and for the very high quality of the components used in the build. I had my own digital, professional camera and we have had 2 previous digital tv's. One 48" still fully ok after 6 years use now relegated to a bedroom. Sony pro digicams can be seen on the shoulder of cameramen in most countries today.
The picture on thd 55" HDR screen is outstanding. Fantastic blacks through to absolute whites with seemingly unlimited pastels and shades in between. The setup is a dream. Installed software auto starts and moves smoothly through each stage and if you get it wrong you can step back of start over. The included remote comes, typical of Sony, with their own brand of batteries. I have known them to last for 3+ years. As an aside hasn't anyone at Sony thought of including two remotes. They are inexpensive. Oh yeah, white would be nice. The black bezel around the screen is tops, as it is effectively "nothing" but must we always have black remotes that can be hard to find.
The remote features a fairly usual layout. Good thinking, who needs to go through a major learning curve on that. There's a modern netflix button included. Two new are ACTION MENU and DISCOVER. Each has multiple choice options by using the inner circle 'arrow' selector. Why are the arrows not white? Beats me! ACTION MENU. picture off, live football mode, picture, wide mode, sound, speakers, headphone volume, sync menu. DISCOVER my apps, settings, lots more sub headings.
Adding devices is as good as it gets. Auto recognition and helps to set up. Via the HDMI and usb and lan ports all very clearly labelled and high up on the rear side of the tv chassis for eash access.. Here's a point. Why on earth is the sticky label showing model and serial number, not three times larger and stuck on up the top as well. Any way I CAMERAgraphed mine to have a copy in the event of unexpected loss.
Viewing a UHD tv channel it is sheer joy. A quality I only ever experienced before on small screens in tech areas of the tv station where broadcast quality was being monitored. There's the best GUIDE I have ever seen on this TV. It is full screen and due to the high resolution clear as. One good thing is that when text is used anywhere, it is in good quality English. I think other language options were available too. Using the guide you can preselect programs to watch ( very easy) and even set to record.
THE SMART. The set can be linked via the modem or dongle to The www. I have not done this yet, other than to see it worked. Update later ! Overall it easily fulfills our highest expectations and with prices of the model dropping I can recommend it 101%.

Good TV – I inherited this tv and it has been awesome so far. Other people have reported laggy menus and such, but if you treat this like and other android device and don't have a ton of apps and background services running, it is fine. It is also a good idea to uninstall or turn off apps / bloatware that are installed by the factory but you don't use. I… Read more

This is perfect for the small family – This TV I purchased about serveral years ago, and it still working pretty good. For the small family like me, we didnot watching TV since we have our children. Terrible TV for the price – I bought this TV in 2016 and in 2020 March faced a problem. A third of the screen started showing horizontal lines which would be keep on blinking. I called Sony and they stated that it is out of warranty but for the price I paid it should last a lot longer. Sony assigned some repair centre personnel. He shows up and within 10seconds states the whole flat screen panel needs to be replaced. Needless to state, i am terribly disappointed. Show details
Crap Android tv – Tv runs fine until you start using the android apps or cycle thru them, The operating system is so laggy you will probably want to throw something at it, just buy something else, trust me save your money an buy anything better than this tv. Certainly not worth 2k more like worth $400 Show details
Worst Sony Product I’ve ever purchased – We bought this in January 2016 and the pixels went in March 2018. TV isn’t able to be fixed and Sony were of no help. TV had issues connecting to the internet and issues loading the apps once it updated. I’ve been a loyal Sony fan for the last 20 years. Won’t be buying them again. Rather disappointing. Show details

Great picture – Had this TV for about 12 months, only wanted it as I was going to get the PS$ pro and the xbox one x which I have aswell, now because of these I now upgraded my whole system to 4k with Dolby Atmos. If this was still available I would highly recommend it as I have never had an issue. Show details

Clear and crisp resolution – The picture quality is great and really focused. Most channels prefer you to be in HD and we find that sometimes on normal stations, the picture can look slightly distorted - only by a miniscule amount compared to HD. The only thing is that sometimes when we exit out of Stan it will restart the TV - not sure if this is an ongoing issue but other than that, the TV works like it is meant to. Show details
Sony HD Television – Excellent picture quality, contrast & clarity. The colours are amazing & it is very easy to use. Reasonable price and very user-friendly. Very light compared to previous generation of TVs. Ticks all the boxes in terms of quality picture & the right price. One of the best televisions yet by Sony. Show details
Best for value TV – I am quite satisfied with the picture quality even though it's quite an old tech compared to latest series. The built-in speakers are loud enough and tone-wise, it has a really good balance on bass and treble. It does have have enough ports for me - HDMI, USB, standard coax, etc. Moreover, since I'm a fan of Android, this really suits me since can get hang around with. Show details
Great tv for the price – I bought this tv about 8 months ago. The picture quality is very good. The inbuilt speakers are also adequate. I don't use the smart tv features so I can't comment on that, I normally only use it for Foxtel and DVDs. Sony has been my go to brand for electronic devices for years now, and this tv purchase won't change that. Show details

Good TV with the price – This is the first 4K TV I have ever had at home. It is entry level so the price is not high. So far satisfied with its performance. Good picture but shocking software – Excellent picture quality but the smart TV features are unacceptably slow. Simply changing a channel with the remote can sometimes result in a lengthy delay before anything happens. Several times the software has crashed or frozen, requiring a complete shutdown and restart. Hopeless – This TV is ultra thin however continues to turn off and on when using the smart TV apps on the HOME button. I was contemplating getting a Samsung of LG which in theory I should've purchased. The remote control is terrible quality and is already broken after 4 months. Will not buy Sony again. Show details

refused to provide any help or change a repair center, but insisted me myself calling SSS to book another repair and lied to me saying its still open case and its the easiest way for Sony.

Good – The picture quality is awesome! When we bought it it was next to another 3 brand that was showing exactly the same video and this one showed the most beautiful color and detail.
