Solid TV - Still Working well after years of usage – Don’t know what all the negative reviews are on about. It’s a solid tv. Our unit was purchased new in 2017 and is still in service with over 27,000 hours clocked on the screen now. Never had any major issues with it. Only minor software glitches in the past. Admittedly when it was new the software was a little glitchy but now works fine after… Read more
numerous updates from Sony (latest update is from 2023). Maybe not as quick as new TV’s but does the job still.
Has access to most apps you would need - Netflix, Stan, YouTube, Prime Video just to name a few.
As of 2024 it Does NOT have Disney, Apple TV or Paramount Plus, but again this TV is from 2017 and half those apps didn’t even exist then. These apps may get added at some point with a new software update from Sony, but don’t get your expectations up for that, as it may very well not ever happen.
If you plan on using the HDMI ports, just keep in mind out of the three ports you get only one of them will support a HDR signal.
If you see a second hand one, ignore the bad reviews. It’s still a solid tv for the right price.
2026 Edit: This unit is still going strong. Now getting close to 40,000 total running hours. That’s over 4 years worth of run time. As far as I can tell there is no backlight decay or any dead pixels either. Not bad for an edge lit display which are known to fail early.
Still no other software updates available since 2023. Think it’s safe to say no further updates will be provided in the future.
Just for reference I also watch a lot of content on a Sony Bravia 9. Which is their current flagship TV for 2025. And whilst it is significantly better in picture quality, I am still impressed by how well this tv still performs at almost 10 years old.
I don't think many people woul'd live without TV... But this is good when OK. However – Bought June 2018, Luckilly screen needed replaced after two stoms but during waranty. So when it was working it has been satisfying and I have no complaints about the display. However today I'm here because I failed to get 10 Play chanel in Sydney. Sony did not seem to approach those affected by this change. I attempted to install the app and… Read more
was given a list of products compatible for this. If you read between the lines (or the right ones!) you may find the software or watever (I'm no ingeener) is Android? On that line after logging on my google account I received a warning about someone log- in on Linux??? Again trying to find some answer it seems Linux is involved also in Bravia tv?? I Have to come to the conclusion that is too much hard work for sony to properly inform customers. And it is probably better for them to give them a push to buy a new TV! So now this model is now superseeded and it is the end of the story
Unreliable – Smart Tv that’s not smart. Sony after sales service is slow and unhelpful . At Year 3 some apps stopped working (eg Binge), so I had to buy Google Chromecast to compensate. At Year 6 the screen went black. Sony service agent (overseas call centre) was robotic and unhelpful. Took 3 days just to get name of local repairer. Threw TV out. Never again Sony.

Stay away from this TV – In general the TV fail by quality of picture, connection, streaming or app connection, Usb connection The quality of picture on screen is always dim. I try to convince myselft that the TV is actualy not bad. But it fail me everytime. Second- there is no app on smart phone which you can controle your TV. Ofcourse some one can argue that there… Read more
is a remote control. Yea there is but not enough. Why because we are buying smart tv not a digital tv. We should expect some thing more like an app which u can use to tupe text and send to tv, an app which you can not only turn off but also turn on the tv, an app wich you can share your picture on your smart phone to TV. And sony failed me but my TV panasonic did.
Thirdly YouTube streaming from phone to TV. Can never get it work And I hate using the remote control to serch from video I want to see.
Lastly, the subtitle - if you have usb connect to sony and watching movies. If younlike an substitle sony fail in doing that. Nomatte how I try.
Stay away from Sony. They are so behind when talking about smart TV
Apps not working update: all problems due to internet connectivity – First of all, youtube application stopped to work, frequently and had to factory reset the tv every day.started using netflix, then both netflix and you tube stopped completely. Next, every application dissapeared one day. So cant access any apps, if tried to access netflix/ youtube on remote control it comes with error message " unable to load… Read more
the program.
So, when tried to access the internet, takes too long to connect to internet.cant easily access the opera browser through tv remote too as to type in each word from tv remote is too tedious process.
Got hold of customer care sony, after 1 hour on phone, was told tech support would call me, after 15 minutes, which never happened. So i called the same number, this time some other fella couldn't solve the issue after another 20minutes told me sony engineers would call me within 48 hours.
All this happened on friday 8december2017, i purchased this tv on 30november2017.So, waiting for the call on Monday.
Update:
My apologies, should have updated my review earlier. All issues had been resolved. The issues had been caused by slow/ lack of internet connection between tv and internet service provider, still cant find the logic between apps dissapearing and lack of internet connection though.
Anyway, still customer care didnot give proper solution to the issue as I sorted it all myself by swapping tv/ internet/ cables etc. All customer care could do was good involvement in trying to solve the issue by trying to contact me for a technician's visit to my house( which I refused).
Final Verdict:
Good quality tv, gets little hot in summer though, not any issues at all.finally, happy with it.
A vision of perfection in 4k UHD – Packaged with care, all instructions clear & concise regarding assembly of stand. As one would expect with Sony, the build quality is excellent. The stand brackets are steel & not cheap plastic as some companies provide, with Sony you're paying a premium for quality & that is what you receive. Out of the box experience is user friendly, the… Read more
guided setup prompts you along the way from network setup through channel scanning to time setting.
Network (LAN) runs excellently, it recognised my network immediately, Wi-Fi is also available but I use a wired network direct from my modem. I cannot comment on the tuner as the TV is directly connected to my Fetch TV by HDMI & I receive my channels directly from there. Sound is clear, not too tinny or boomy.
The only negatives I have are that I would prefer connections (HDMI 2 & 3, USB & antenna) to be more centrally located rather than on the left side as I need to purchase longer HDMI cables for the 4k DVD player hence I have not tested it's compatibility with it's fellow Sony 4k DVD player. Also I found that some app menus such as Netflix's user & password screen appears a little blurry.
The instant Netflix & Youtbe buttons on the remote control are a bonus & most welcome.
I highly recommend this set, I'll probably never go to bed again!
Positive reviews
An excellent TV, have had it for over 3 years and it has been a very reliable and compatible TV with all gadgets – Software could be a bit better…the apps do not always provide the latest material and updates don’t come too often. But apart from that, no other issues really and a good unit for decent family viewing. Had it plugged to an ok theatre system and all HD/4K content was very enjoyable. Show details
Great Tv for ps4 pro – I bought the Tv strictly for my ps4 pro, and lemme tell ya it looks awesome. With xreality pro enhancements and HDR compatibility, this 4k tv pushed my pro to its limit. Last of us 2 looks awesome! Show details
I will stay with SONY now – Great model TV. Has excellent picture quality it’s also a nice looking set and has a cool looking stand. Will definitely stick to buying the Sony Brand now. Happy customer
Negative reviews
Buzzing standby noise - annoying – The TV is great and has a high quality picture but since being gifted the TV it's been buzzing non-stop. 6 months in it developed a slight buzz noise.. not too noticeable so that's OK.. 2 years later the buzzing noise when the TV is on stand-by (off) is so loud that I can't have it in my bedroom anymore without having to switch it off from the… Read more
power point. It's incredible surprising that this sort of thing happens with Sony TV's... Is this due to cheap / faulty capacitors?
died – have had the Tv for 4 years... its our second TV down stairs... barley gets used... lucky to be used a hour a week if at all... yesterday decided to have a mate over to watch UFC, by the end of the fights the TV screen went blank and a electrical smell filled the room while making a loud humming sound... Lucky for me I took Hervey Normans Product… Read more
care for a extra 2 years... Technician suppose to come this week to diagnose it... hopefully he wont fix it and I can just another one to the same value... disappointed in Sony, thought they were a high end quality product... would expect more than 4 years out of it...
Only lasted 3 years – Brought in March 2018 from JB HiFi Rosy Hobart and recently it started glitching and flicking out of focus after only 30 mins of TV time. Unbelievably short life span. TV repairs quoted me too much to try to fix. Waste of money on something that should last longer than 3 years. That is my last Sony product ever! Show details

TV died after three years and two months - but problems leading up to this – We bought this TV for our son and it died after three years and two months. In fact, is was dying for months prior to this - quitting in the middle of TV shows and football matches! Surely, TVs should be built to last more than three years. My husband and I have two Panasonic (smart) TVs, which we have for several years, which haven’t had any… Read more
glitches. Surely it isn’t too much to ask that a Sony TV lasts for more than three years?
Needless to say, our son won’t be replacing his failed TV with a Sony and when we need to replace our Panasonic TVs, we won’t be replacing them with Sonys.
Very disappointing.

Short life span – Picture quality is great, fast processing time when opening apps from first turn on. However after 18 months a line of broken pixels appeared 10cm from the top of the screen. Exactly 3 years of ownership & now the bottom 16cm of the screen glitches has developed large pixelated lines & whole screen imaging glitches making it impossible to watch… Read more
TV. After spending over $2600 to have the TV the needing repairs (quoted $700) & unusable in the meantime we are extremely disappointed! Do not recommend.
Worst than my analogue watch – How could sony manufacturer this kinda joke. Unbelievable! Worst ever. Not a android by any means, only a very few number of apps. Even Software update didnt improve its quality!!!
Too many crashes, now internet's died – Crashed a lot! now after a year and a half there's no internet connectivity at all - wifi and LAN have died. Has put off Sony TV's unfortunately. Looks nice and had a very nice picture, and I enjoyed the features - when they were working. Show details
Dreadful Android Operating System – This set has continually malfunctioned since being purchased. The Android system is truly horrible and extremely slow. Despite 3 major software updates and twice being back to the repair shop there are still ongoing issues which Sony can't or won't fix. The brilliant screen is the only thing to recommend it. Sound system awful, Android system… Read more
worse than awful. It is not the only Sony product that is rubbish. Sony now ranks as a third tier TV manufacturer charging first tier prices.
Disappointing product, has turned us off Sony TVs – As a TV: fine. As a smart TV: bad. Cant add new apps, Netflix and Stan crash weekly, sometimes apps wont start until you turn the tv off at the wall for 40 seconds. Limited settings for apps, support page is a joke, just suggests "try apps later" if they dont work. Other times the picture freezes and power button wont work, have to turn off at wall. Show details
Not a true smart TV – Despite what Sony wants you to think this is not a smart TV. Yes it connects to the internet (whoot) but my garage light is connected to the internet. What they don't tell you is that you can only use apps they want you to use. Netflix, great. Stan also good. You Tube, Thank you. However the third biggest streaming platform Disney Plus is not… Read more
available. I get how HBO is Australia is not avalibe however Disney. And no you cannot down loads other apps. For this you need an "Android TV". As for me my brand new $1000 plus tv went straight back to where it come from and i now have a true smart TV and not some technicality on what qualifies to be considered smart.
Can’t download apps, software is poo – First off you can only use the pre installed apps, for a new smart TV thats ridiculous The software is crap, you have to exit any apps back to love tv to do things like turn on the sleep timer. Wish I could get my money back, the whole system is poo and I have to use my PS4 with it, might as well have not brought a smart TV Show details
Absolutely terrible "smart" TV – This TV is a lemon. The software/firmware that drives it is absolutely poor and shocking. Nobody should have to put up with this "bait and switch". It runs Linux for the smart TV instead of Android (which happens to also be Linux but this is Sony distinguishing them). Want to stream to the TV from your devices? Hah good luck. option is bad.
If you managed to get a junk TV like this, get an Xbox or PS4 or something to deal with the absolute shockingly crap software.
Honestly shame on Sony for selling this junk. I'll never touch a Sony TV again.
Sony x7000 tv – I bought this tv in late 2017. The screen is great, with vivid enough colours. What is bad though is the YouTube app-it often freezes and will not refresh itself. The easiest fix is to change between the guest account and my personal YouTube account. This is a bit disappointing. Show details

pixel issues – I've had the same problem with dead pixels, bought at harvey norman with extended warranty, complaint goes to a company aligned to sony, they tell me they're going to replace the TV, Sony say re[place the screen???? i go to harvey norman and they talk to the 3rd party, harvey norman stand by replacement, tmrw i should get a call. 25% of the reviews are 3 stars and below Show details
youtube software need to be upgraded – brought this TV from costco last year. Great smart TV, good build quality as you can expect from any other Sony product. The only problem and the biggest problem of it is, I am no long able to use my smart phone to connect the TV and play youtube in the TV. I have reset the TV but it just doesn't work. this is my second Sony smart TV by the way, Other than that, when it comes to purchasing TV, Sony is always my number choice. Show details
Ok TV – TV is ok. Picked Sony due to brand loyalty however I find the TV average with performance slower than expected. Was expecting the youtube button but remote that came with the TV had the google play button instead, which differed from the shops. Find operating system slow with direct wifi connection with laptop slow beyond comprehension. Other functionality works fine. Show details
Good image and functions – The TV has a really good image and connect you directly to youtube, netflix, internet etc. The tv is pretty user-friendly that my 6yo and 46yo can use it easily without asking for help all the time.
Its the best T.V.!!!! – This TV is the best I've ever purchased. The picture quality is perfect. The surround sound is fantastic! It has enough ports. Wireless connection is perfect. Bluetooth works perfectly as well. The apps work great. I can't find any faults, am so happy with my purchase of this television. Its the best I've ever had! Show details
Great tv, intuitive and good picture – The smart tv is far superior than on our Samsung tv. Easy to use and better functionality in comparison. Love the quick buttons to Netflix, makes it easier for the old folks. For our needs the tv has plenty of HDMI ports. Enough for the PlayStation, Apple TV and Foxtel. Show details
Superb TV all round – Really easy to set up, very happy with it's ease of use from Netflix to On-Demand and USB-hard drive connections. Plenty of ports for what we need, remote is easy to use and the buttons aren't too cramped (although could be a little small for elderly fingers). Easy to connect to WiFi and utilise the Smart ability of the TV. Perfect picture and great sound. Show details
Awesome 4K TV | Sony is the best – This Sony model is a Smart TV and highly easy to use with remote control. Performance of the TV is nice but if internet speed is slow then works slow in the browsing. Its even easy to use wireless connectivity for internet and that makes life easy from having wires around the TV. This unit comes with 5 HDMI/Display port. Music quality is also… Read more

I am using Sony from last 15 years and this is my 3rd tv so i recommend Sony TVs and this is the cost effective and best model
Great TV but watch out for sonys very poor screens – This should be a really good TV but after almost one year I began to see a few small black dots. Took photos and been told they are dead pixels and had my TV replaced but with one in even worse condition! I now have been refunded because the third one they showed me in store still has a few dots and even Harvey normals manager said this is now the Norman for Sony TVs which I think shouldn't be the case! Sony gone way down hill! – I've had all Sony TVs before but my next one after this will be my last! After 1 week out side of warranty 8 dead pixels showed. replacement which also had yet again dead pixels. Harvey Norman then un boxes 3 and only one had 1 pixel dead so had to take that one.
Message to Sony: do better checks on your TV screens and don't sell faulty units with dead pixels!
A little disappointed! – The picture quality is OK, but I have seen better, and the sound needs improving.Comparing to what I have seen, even in a lot cheaper TVs,the colour is a lot less vivid, and you have to keep changing the sound level depending on the show, movie ect.I am disappointed,as their usually reliable quality.
