When the canisters are not leaking, the water filter is great! Unfortunately, both the tops and bottoms of the canisters regularly develop hairline cracks, allowing fine jets of water to escape. We've had the filter for maybe 15 years. We didn't have a problem during the first 8 years or so. the quality of the canisters must have deteriorated since then because I have to replace a top and a bottom pretty much every year now.

keep well away from this product – Steer clear … you have been warned. These are extremely low quality Chinese made filters. The main filter housing simply cracked !!! substantial water leak downstairs . Luckily we were home and could stop it in time . However if we had have been at work (like every other couple now days )… or out … we would be looking at a decent/ full scale flood of bottom floor.

It would have been a very, very…ugly insurance claim. Key point here is …. We live in a nice area by the river … with vintage jarrah floorboards in the downstairs area….probably worth around $100,000.+

The guys at Bunnings shrugged their shoulders and said ... "buy another filter." after pressing the issue a little further ... and possibly understanding the implications/ramifications ...a more switched on young manager from Bunnings handled the refund / exchange for me.

Stefani simply wouldn’t take my call.

Simple recommendation, steer clear of this product… steer well clear.

You have been warned Purchased in Jan 2022.

Horrible product and Stefani as company - no after service – Wish there was a zero star. I installed the filter and now when I want to replace the cartridge, the holders just refuse to open. I have tried everything...multiple wrenches, got a plumber, friends, etc. to help me open so that I could replace the cartridges. And Stefani doesn't provide any after-service for such issues. Highly frustrating and disappointing. Show details

A Cause, of the Problems being Reported – After reading the many bad reviews about these Stefani Under Sink Filters that appear on here I would like to offer a reason for the problems some people are experiencing. I have used Stefani water filters in our own home for now over 20 years. At first we used their large above Bench, Terra-Cotta & Ceramic-Cartridge Drip-Filter, later changing… Read more

over to their Plastic Under-Sink Twin Cartridge Filter System and I now want to state that I have no association with the Stefani company and that I am only giving my own unbiased view here, about their Under Sink water filters.

Based upon inspection of the 'damage' photos appearing on here, in my opinion the vast majority of the problems that have been reported here about these filters have arisen from just one cause, ..OVER-TIGHTENING.

Over-tightening, of the two small screw-in, 'NPT-Threaded' 'In' and 'Out' plastic Tubing Ports, with which, the 1/4" (6mm) white plastic water tubing is connected into the large, Top, white plastic Manifold, which the two large removable white plastic filter cartridge housings then screw into, from below.

These two small plastic screw-in, 'In' and 'Out' 1/4" (6mm) tubing connection Ports, employ a 'NPT-..TAPERED..-Thread' which, in order TO AVOID causing any DAMAGE to these Filters MUST ONLY ever be TIGHTENED, in strict compliance with the RULES associated with using 'NPT-TAPERED-Threaded' connections.

Those RULES for using NPT-TAPERED Threads in Plastic, ARE, that "the-Threaded-portion must ONLY be wrapped in NO-MORE-THAN Two-Layers of Teflon Thread Sealing Tape before they are then screwed by hand FINGER-TIGHT-ONLY into the matching 'In' and 'Out' Port's NPT-Threaded-Holes, in the Top white plastic Manifold. THEN, they should be tightened with a 'SMALL' (length) Spanner, BY-NO-MORE-THAN, ONE & a HALF-TURNS, PAST, that FINGER-TIGHT point.

I say to use a 'SMALL' (length) Spanner, because I am trying to EMPHASISE that these small screw-in plastic connections ARE-NOT, the large 6" (150mm) diameter Steel Bolts that are used to hold up the Sydney Harbour Bridge..!! DO NOT, ..OVER-TIGHTEN THEM..!

Why..?? Because if you do, the TAPERED, (in other words) 'WEDGE-SHAPED', NPT Thread on them will exert A LOT, of EXPANSION PRESSURE, upon the walls of the small matching holes in the plastic Top Manifold, into which they are being screwed, AND THAT, WILL, subsequently, cause the Top Manifold to SPLIT, at the molded plastic internal-seam that is on the inside of those two Port holes, ..CAUSING, water to leak from the Filter's then, SPLIT, Housing.

I recently bought one of these Stefani Under-Sink Water Filter Kits to install for one of our family friends and it is doing that, which has now inspired me to come on here to report my findings, because when I opened the Kit and examined the various parts that came supplied in the box, I immediately noticed that both of the small white plastic screw-in, NPT Threaded 1/4" (6mm) tubing In & OUT Port connectors that came in the box, HAD ALREADY been badly OVER-WRAPPED, with about TEN, full-wrap-turns, of Teflon Sealing Tape used on them, when supplied, straight, FROM THE FACTORY..!

And SO, IF, the people who buy these Filter Kits are then, screwing those supplied, ALREADY, badly-OVER-WRAPPED plastic connectors into the top Manifold, TIGHTLY, and with a Large-Spanner, it is then absolutely NO WONDER, to me, about WHY, so many of them are ending up with SPLIT seams and water leaks, then occurring in those Manifolds.

AND there is another, problem, that can arise with these Filters, due to OVER-TIGHTENING.

This happens if people, AFTER, using the also provided large Plastic 'O-Spanner' to remove the two large screw-on plastic Casings, into which are inserted the disposable Filter-Cartridges, then, ALSO, use that same large 'O-Spanner, again, to RE-TIGHTEN, the two large removable filter cartridge plastic Casings, AFTER, they have replaced the disposable Filter Cartridges.

As a General Rule, those two large plastic screw on filter Casings should ONLY, ever be RE-TIGHTENED, BY HAND, after replacing the Cartridges inside them, and should NEVER, NEED, to be, RE-TIGHTENED with the O-Spanner..! Why..?? Because if you do use the O-Spanner then the disposable filter cartridges, which are NOT COMPRESSIBLE, 'Length-Wise' will then exert a LOT of EXCESSIVE pressure, LENGTHWISE, upon the Bottom of the plastic Filter Casings, which then, WILL, EVENTUALLY, cause these Casings to SPLIT, at the bottom..!

The only exception, to that General Rule is if the screw on Casings are being RE-TIGHTENED by a Lady owner, who simply may not have the same amount of turning-strength, in their smaller hands, as a man (normally) does. In that circumstance, them, then, using the O-Spanner might, be needed, BUT, it should always be done only slowly, gently, and BY NO MORE THAN NEEDED, to achieve a Water-Tight Seal, of the two Black Neoprene O-Rings located at the top of the screw on plastic Casings.

The screw on Filter Casings should NEVER require excessive force to tighten them to achieve a Water-Tight Seal of the Black Neoprene O-Rings. If the O-Rings wont, achieve a Water-Tight Seal when tightening the Casings by Hand, then the Black O-Rings themselves should be replaced with new ones, AND, BEFORE, Re-Tightening the Casings, ALWAYS, apply just a 'small' amount, (about a match-head sized dab) of "Plumber's Food-Grade Silicone Tap-Grease" (available from Bunnings) to the top-edge Sealing-face of each of the O-Rings, so that they will then slide freely upon the opposite, plastic, mating face, of the Filter Housing as they are being Turned, and Tightened back into place. Don't be tempted to use any Oil/Petroleum based Grease instead, as it may shorten the service life of the Neoprene O-Rings and also, risks polluting, the drinking water contents of the Filters.

One last thing, if after, replacing the disposable Carbon Filter Cartridge and attempting to re-screw the plastic Casing containing it back, into the top Manifold, you simply cannot get it to start screwing back in, pull the Casing back off and remove the new Carbon Filter Cartridge from inside it, and then look, down, into the bottom, of that Casing, and check, that there is not, an old, soft Silicone Washer stuck in there, that has become detached, off the bottom of the previous, Carbon Filter that you just replaced, and if so, pull it out and dispose of it, before reinserting the new Carbon Filter Cartridge again.

HOW, do I know this sort of stuff..?? I am a now retired, Engineering Officer who has had a very wide and varied, range of work experiences, in my prior, working life.

AN UPDATE: ------------------- Just a quick Update, to my previous report. Just a week ago, and after 14 years of it giving us reliable service, we discovered that our own Stefani Undersink Water Filter had developed a Water Leak from one of the small plastic screw-in, 'In' and 'Out' 1/4" (6mm) tubing connection Ports and luckily we were home at the time and discovered this fairly quickly before it resulted in any major Flooding problem.

On close inspection, I found that a very small, hairline-crack, had developed on the inside, of the large plastic 'Top Manifold' where, the small plastic screw-in, 1/4" (6mm) tubing connection Ports are attached to it and exactly where, the two parts of the Top Manifold are 'molded together' during the manufacturing production process, and although the crack was very small, barely visible, it was evident that because the Water inside of the Filter housing is always under pressure, the crack though very small, was sufficient to allow the Water, under pressure, to escape through it.

So after some thought, and considering that our own Stefani Undersink Water Filter had already given us 14 years of reliable and trouble free service I was undeterred, from simply replacing it with yet another identical Stefani Undersink Water Filter System, but, this time, with just one small 'additional caveat', in that I would not, this time around, leave it for that long, again, before replacing it, simply as a 'precautionary measure' against, any similar 'in- service, age-related' failure happening with it again, because the simple reality is that anything, made from plastic, will always have a finite, service life expectancy before it eventually fails, and as in this case, usually, from some sort of cracking developing in the plastic.

Hence, I have now set an alert, in my own electronic Calendar to remind me in 5 years time to replace our Undersink Stefani Water Filter, again, with another 'new' unit, and although I could probably quite easily leave it for longer, than that, I figure that at just $149 from Bunnings, replacing it at 5 years after it's initial installation date is really, still, very cheap insurance, and gives us a very good safety margin as well. $149 divided by 1825 days (5 years) still gives us the convenience of having Filtered Water on-tap, in our home for just, 8 cents per day.

Never buy this product!! – Never ever buy Stefani twin undersink filtration system. I purchased this product in January 2017 and got in installed by a plumber. Bunnings sold it to me saying it has a two year warranty. Recently I noticed it is leaking water (Damaged my kitchen cupboards as well) and found out that there are hairline cracks on the lids. So I took it back to… Read more

Bunnings with the proof of purchase and they asked for evidence that it was installed by a plumber. Even though I got a plumber to install it, never kept the receipt. When I look at the packaging it says "Recommended to be installed by licensed plumber", which tells me it is not compulsary. So how am I suppose to know, I need a plumbers invoice for warranty claim and bunnings never told me to keep the plumbers receipt. So I called the company directly and they refused to discuss any further unless I have a plumbers receipt.

This is a known issue with this product and the company knows that. Because one of my mates had this exact product installed and had the same issue as me and has gone back to the company. They have said water pressure is causing this issue and they are now including a pressure reducing valve with the product.

Another issue is after you change the filter it starts to leak water as well. It is a constant battle and will ruin your kitchen cupboards. Stay away from this product.

Aussie owned, easy done, perfect water – I just installed one of these. I was so sick of a certain company in Adelaide ringing earlier and earlier and being pushy. So I went off to bunnings and bought this! The install was easy, as I already had a filter line in place. The John Guest 'push-in pull-back' tube fittings are extra easy. I bought a 0.2 micron carbon filter to use instead… Read more ·  2

of the 5 micron one that comes with. I believe the previous mob had a 0.5 micron filter. I already had the tap and all, so all I had to install was the pressure limiting valve. I am led to believe we don't need that in Adelaide, but having experienced extreme fluctuations before, I figured it couldn't hurt.

I note that the competition (who come out and do it for you) didn't put a PLV in. I opened the box and read the instructions.

Ffifteen minutes later I was flushing the system, and ten minutes after that I had lovely water that tasted even better. I now have a spare tap, ball valve, and lots of other spare useful pieces for about 25$ more than a filter change from the other mob.

And the extra fine filter was another 48$. So I reckon it's totally worth it as the filter changes happen when I want, and I don't have to be home for someone else, or worry about my filter sitting outside the house until I can be home... and they are way cheaper.

Here's to changing my filters at three in the morning, if I like!

The unit leaked a tad, but that was my fault for not tightening the housing enough... another quarter turn did the job, and I really couldn't be happier. The 0.2 micron filter was 48$, as I said, and the sediment filters run about 26$ for a twin pack, so I'm looking at 62$ish for a change of filter, which is cheaper than the others. If I decided on a filter with a larger micron size, it would be cheaper again.

I'm all for Stefani filters, and if for some reason I couldn't get their filters, the unit will take any brand 10" filter. Awesome!

What a load of crap – Had the dual filter for 6 months then one of the filter containers broke at the bottom. Luckily we were home when it happened. So went to buy a replacement only to find that the single filter type are a different size fitting to the dual type. Crap product, crap design. Show details
