This under sink HWS is great for a short time. Unfortunately it has an enamel coated steel tank which relies on a small anode for protection. If the unit is in heavy use, the anode will probably need replacing within 2 years. Cost of anode at trade price is about $45. Replacing the anode is another matter as it is in the most difficult to get at st^pid place. Had a plumber in to look at how to replace the anode by pulling apart a unit that had been replaced because of a leaking tank (4 year old). We realized that we would need to make up a special tool to pass the anode through the element opening and then raise the locating thread to enter the locating hole on the top of the tank further towards the back of the tank. No we were not trying to repair this unit - the tank was already gone. We just wanted to see whether anode replacement was economical in another unit. We agreed that the cost of replacing the anode on the second under sink unit I have would be too expensive to justify. The warranty on the unit is void if the anode is not serviced every 2 years. THIS IS A THROW AWAY UNIT. All future under sink units I buy will be stainless tanks that don't require an anode. First pic shows tank with front plastic surround and underlying insulating foam removed. Heater element is large screw at front. Second pic shows bolt of anode at the top of the tank towards the back.
Stiebel Eltron hws Beware there is no warranty by this company and they only last a year . Purchased in sep 2023 the unit stopped working in November 2024 and was uninstalled for warranty replacement. Then the troubles begin , every question is asked about what the customer did wrong , whether a tap was installed despite no requirement or what went wrong at the installation address , which by the way is nothing . Why would anyone contact a company for warranty about a faulty product if the product was working . After it stopped working the hws was tested thoroughly by a competent licensed person , turned off so rested and tried then retried and it does not work . But the service people still will not take any responsibility or replace . I do not want a hws in my house that only lasts one year and neither does anyone , Just poor service and I would advise to stay away from this company . I will be returning it to tradelink demanding a full refund as it has a 3yr warranty and Stiebel Eltron do everything in there to avoid honouring their warranty . For the record an electric hws is a basic item , there is a tank , an element to heat the water in the tank and there is a thermostat to regulate the water . Pretty basic and when one of these is faulty it means the whole unit is faulty so a replacement or refund is the only fair and reasonable action . Not 50 questions from a cheat sheet by a unqualified phone operator. They just delay , deny and de interest until the customer goes away , the 3ds ……. Steer clear of this company people they do not honour warranties and it is a terrible product

Only good for short term use – Now on my second unit in three years first one replaced because of leaks - 2nd one now leaking. Works well for short time before leaking - looks as though there is a rust issue with tank - so in my view very poor quality manufacturing, so much for German quality.

Tank rusts through if Sacrificial anode is not changed, anode cost $$$$$$ – My first unit rusted out- pin hole after 3 years, found anode inside, read the manual and it said check anode after 2 years and replace if necessary. I bought another SHC15 and sheduled an anode check after 24 months. Found the anode needed replacement, called Stiebel and was told I could only buy from a plumbing supplier- Price $144 for the anode. Cost of plumber to replace probably $200. I would expect this unit to last 10 years easily and the anodes to be around $10 -$20 freely available as a maintenance item. Or even better put in a stainless tank and charge $100 more for the unit! Landfill doesn't need this!
