The Aquatech Heat Pump is generally well-received by consumers seeking an energy-efficient alternative to traditional gas or electric hot water systems. Users frequently highlight its ability to integrate with solar setups for low-cost operation, consistent hot water delivery, and a compact design. While minor inconveniences regarding the mobile app and occasional connectivity quirks are noted by a subset of reviewers, the overall sentiment remains positive, supported by competitive pricing and responsive technical assistance.
We decided to switch to a water pump after seeking advice from our plumber to replace our broken existing system. The Aquatech Dynamic X8 was recommended by several installers. We went for the 268L which is plenty for our 2 person household plus the occasional visitors. The wifi set up was quick and the app is very easy to navigate and use. We also called the Aquatech helpline with a question and they were very helpful. Show details
Was recommended to get the Aquatech Dynamic X8 heat pump based on good informative advice in comparison to other brand. Prompt & punctual installation service followed on confirmation of quote. No issue with the heat pump as it is functioning well. Show details
Excellent performance and noticeable energy savings Upgraded our hot water system to AquaTech, and it has exceeded expectations. The unit is whisper-quiet while running, which was a huge priority for us, and the water is always super hot with great recovery times. Between the energy efficiency and the solid build quality, it gives us complete peace of mind. Great unit and great overall experience! Show details

We had the Aquatech Dynamic X8 installed by Same Day Hot Water. I chose the Aquatech unit for it's competitive price, solid build, non-sacrificial anode and very positive reviews. After just under 2 weeks of operation I can safely say, I'm very happy with the choice. The unit is installed outside our bedroom, but thanks to the low noise level… Read more
from the heat pump, it's not really noticeable when running. We have the unit set to ECO mode (recommended for a small number of users, in our case 2) and the heating cycle is only running once a day for around 2 hours. The Tuya app is easy to set up and very useful for monitoring tank temperature. This unit replaced a gas storage HW system and my wife was very concerned that we'd be running out of hot water. However, we've only ever experienced a consistent supply of nice hot water, so yet another big tick for the unit. I can highly recommend Heat Pump technology, and the Aquatech product, and the energy and cost savings that come with it
We have this unit installed for just over 1 week. I am very happy with the unit so far. Noise level is not an issue, I can hear it when in the yard but once inside the house, I could not really hear it. I run my during solar generation period and it does not consume a lot of energy but it does take 4-6 hours to heat up the tank depending on what… Read more
the tank temperature is at the start of the day. I am in the middle of winter at the moment, so I guess this is the worse case scenario but it's handling the cold weather just fine.
The insulation of the tank is very good, there is hardly any temperature lost due to cold ambient temperature outside.
You can control the heating schedule on the unit itself or via the Tuya app. Both are pretty easy to operate. Aquatech recommends that the scheduling should be done directly on the unit and not via the Tuya app. The Tuya App should be used for viewing purely because if the internet is down when the schedule is suppose to start or end, then this event will not triggered because the schedule is stored on the Tuya server. And you should not schedule both on the Tuya app and directly on the unit as this might conflict with each other. I hope this help as I did spend sometime exploring this.
Had the system installed less than a week ago, it is performing well so far. Nice hot water in the shower, delivered faster than the old instantaneous hot water system we had, so less waiting and wasting of water. The water reheat cycle seems fast enough, considering it is the middle of winter in Victoria. When heating, the condenser fan noise is… Read more
quiet, but there is another rattly sound which is a little unpleasant when standing very close. The wifi and mobile app are handy to keep an eye on the tank temperature, while getting used to the new system. I don't like the adverts in the mobile app though, makes it feel a bit cheap and nasty. The unit/installation looks nice and neat, better than some other brands offerings.
Help to save energy and bill, happy with it! The installation went smooth, great job. Show details

We had our Aquatech X8 heat pump installed by Brightworks Solar, and the entire experience was seamless, efficient, and professionally managed from start to finish. Adrian was helpful and responsive throughout the process, and the installation team, Carlos and Nathan, did an outstanding job. They arrived on time, were careful, courteous and highly… Read more
professional, cleaned up thoroughly, and, after the electricians completed their work (which was also excellent), removed all packaging and rubbish. We couldn't speak more highly of the entire team. The Aquatech X8 looks great and operates very quietly. One of the standout features is the integrated timer and app, which allows us to schedule water heating to coincide with peak solar generation. This makes excellent use of our rooftop solar and helps keep our hot water costs to a minimum. The price is very competitive and with a solid warranty was the standout choice. Overall, we're extremely happy with both the Aquatech X8 and the quality of the installation. Based on our experience, we would happily recommend both the product and Brightworks Solar.
Excellent heat pump. This is now the second heat pump I’ve purchased from AquaTech. The first one lasted 13 years and I think it honestly paid for itself twice over in electricity savings in that period compared to an electric HWS. I would highly recommend. Show details

Happy with my Dynamic X8 heat pump from Aquatech. Purchased from Liam at HiTech Hotwater who was excellent and gave a competitive price. Installers were very punctual tidy and helped me set it up to my solar. The app is a bit average and disconnected when I installed a printer on my home wifi but no huge issues. Super-efficient and looks great as matches the house paint. Show details
The Aquatech Rapid X6 has been great since installation at the start of June 2026, replacing an older gas hot water storage unit. Installation was smooth by Want a Heat Pump and the hot water has been running well with no issues. Currently running the settings as it was set up (to heat when it drops to 50), which sometimes means the unit runs in… Read more
the evening when we can just hear it. We will investigate the fan modes to see if this nose could be lowered further, but it's already a quiet motor in a city suburb. Household of 2, haven't run out of hot water at all, and the temperature has not fluctuated. Love the option to heat during free electricity or sunlight hours when we switch plans or have solar installed to help further our efficiency. Like the ability to control from the unit or via an app. As another review notes, sometimes rain gets in the side of the unit and can be seen but this hasn't caused any issues. Too early to comment on long term performance, but hoping this unit continues to run smoothly into the future!
I have been very happy with the Aquatech Dynamic X8 heat pump hot water system. It operates quietly and is barely noticeable during normal operation, which is important in a residential setting. The system provides reliable hot water and has been performing well so far. The app offers basic functionality, allowing you to monitor and control the… Read more
system, although it is fairly simple and doesn't have advanced features.
Overall, it represents good value for money and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet and efficient heat pump hot water system.

Summary - great pump, heats up quickly, no problems for 2-3 people normal usage in a 3 br double storey townhouse. If you are worried about running out, or have more people, consider getting a larger tank volume (this one is ~270L), or run the heat pump twice a day (easy to do, we run it once per day). pump provider. They contacted me straight away and were very helpful in evaluating different options. Their quotes were excellent and they arranged installation VERY quickly. The installers arrived on time, were very professional and did an EXCELLENT job of installation. The unit was running within a few hours of them arriving and they removed the old system and cleaned up everything after them. The hot water was working later that night and the system has been great since. I put the mode to Hybrid+ which heats the water to 70 degC during the day when my solar is running and the it lasts 24 hours until the timer comes on again the next morning. **Update 9-Jun-2026** We have been using the unit for 1 month today and we have never had any issues with hot water not being available. Compared to our previous instantaneous gas hot water (which was about 4 years old), the heat pump actually has a higher hot water pressure at the taps, heats up quicker and is hotter, which I was pleasantly surprised with! We are 2 people in the house and we had a very tight space to fit the unit in, which is why we didn't choose the larger tank size model. We normally have 2 standard length showers each day (1 each). And use the hot water at our basins. The kitchen is the furthest point from the heat pump and so takes the longest time to heat up, which is where we use the hot water the most (after the showers) so the taps run for a bit before the water gets hot. This morning, for example, the Tuya monitoring app showed the tank temperature down to about 35 degC at 10am, which when I have the timer set for the heat pump to turn on. Even with the temp sensor reading 35 degC, the hot water is still as hot at the tap as other times of the day (the sensor is in the middle of the tank I believe). The heat pump turns on at 10am and generally takes about 45-60 minutes before the sensor reading start to increase. After that, it heats the water about 10 degC in 1 hour. Once it get to 60 degC, the compressor turns off and the element turns on and heats the tank to 70 degC (Hybrid+ mode) and it takes about 1hr 15min for it go from 60 degC to 70 degC before the element turns off. I did think it would be a good idea to add additional pipe insulation, to try and reduce the temperature loss over the day, so I add a BUNCH of insulation to the pipes, being careful to able to easily remove it to exposes the pressure relief valve and tempering valve (see the pictures). What I found after a couple of weeks, was the the additional insulation made NO DIFFERENCE at all to the heat loss - which really means that the as-installed condition is actually pretty good and it's not worth doing anything additional :) I added a graph of the Tuya app data, showing the water tank temp over day, with the last 30 days of data overlaid on each other. The thick RED line show yesterday's and today's data, which has been the lowest temp it has gotten to. We are normally 3 people in the house and the unit would cope fine with that running once per day I think, but if you are worried with 3/4 or more, you could always set the unit to run a second time in the evening to heat the tank up again and in only takes a couple of hours to do so.
Happy with the unit. Chose this one as it's able to be monitored and controlled with Tuya / Home Assistant, and has the powered anode for less maintenance (with an additional backup). Being the lowest cost heat pump in this capacity range is just a bonus, not the key criterion. Noise is acceptable out of the box, but I did change the settings to… Read more
reduce fan speed and now it's barely audible.
Some feedback for improvement: - WiFi is tricky to reset if you change network name or it failed to connect the first time. I'm sure their support would help if contacted, but this procedure should really be added to the manual. Someone posted a video via Whirlpool that showed how to do it. - My unit arrived with a small cosmetic dent where the power plug was pressed against the unit in shipping, the factory packaging design / QC may need a look. My installer handled this well, brought it to my attention proactively and offered to either arrange a replacement unit, or to knock a bit off the cost on the spot.
Installed by Hotwater.com.au. Great experience with them, good communication.
Easy to setup, low consumption and works really well with our smart home and solar storage systems. Show details

The timers were unreliable when I set them through the Tuya app. Sometimes they would work and sometimes not. I messaged Aquatech about this and they told me that they don't recommend that method anymore and that I should set the timers from the heat pump's display.
It would be good to be able to turn the Wi-Fi off for the heat pump if we are not using it.
Thanks Aquatech.

Melbourne Heat Pumps installed an Aquatech Dynamic/X8 heat pump hot water system for us about a month ago, and it has performed flawlessly from day one. I chose the Dynamic/X8 because it sits in our backyard near the kitchen window, so appearance mattered. The all‑steel construction and clean design look good and setting up Wi‑Fi connectivity and the Tuya app was easy enough and work well. Being able to check the tank temperature from my phone is handy, though I hardly check the water temperature now - the system just works.
Noise levels were a pleasant surprise, and barely noticeable inside. Even with the kitchen window open, the noise isn’t obtrusive. Running it from 12pm to 4pm in Eco mode easily covers our two‑person household, even in Melbourne’s winter, and I still get hot showers at 6:30am the next morning.
Coming from a failing gas instant HWS, the consistent piping‑hot water is glorious. Even at a low flow (for washing dishes) the water is hot, and the pressure is excellent when needed. We should have switched to this heat pump years ago, and I’d happily recommend both the Aquatech Dynamic/X8 and Melbourne Heat Pumps as the installer.
Seems like a good unit. Very professionally installed by Jace at Adelaide Hills Hot Water. settings, and some glaring errors were in the manual e.g. using kW instead of kWh to measure energy consumption.
The resistive heating element kicks in optionally only after a certain temperature defined by your settings, and doesn't run at the same time as the compressor. This is probably to ensure that it can be plugged into a standard 10A plug but it does mean that there's no resistive "boost" mode to rapidly heat the unit.
The combination of resistive element and compressor does give you some flexibility to take the temperature higher e.g. to 75 degrees, which means when it's mixed down with cold water to 50 degrees you are effectively getting more minutes of runtime from the tank compared to lower temperatures - ie making it more suitable for larger families. I'll likely use this feature to get the maximum from it before the family smashes it with morning showers.
Externally the unit is low-key and has a simple, sleek design without any large logos etc.
I've been using the Aquatech Dynamic X8 heat pump for just over a month now, and so far I've been very happy with it. The water remains consistently very hot, even with regular household use. The noise levels are perfectly acceptable—it's certainly not silent, but it's quiet enough that it has never been an issue. The tuya app has also been… Read more
excellent. It connects reliably and provides a clear view of what's happening with the system, making it easy to monitor temperatures, operating modes and overall performance.
Based on my experience so far, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Dynamic X8 to anyone looking for an efficient heat pump hot water system.
One point that I think is worth mentioning, as it initially confused me after reading the reviews, is the operation of Hybrid Mode. I originally assumed that Hybrid Mode would use both the reverse-cycle compressor and the electric heating element together to heat the water rather quickly. After reading the manual and confirming how the system actually works, I found that this isn't the case.
Hybrid Mode still relies on the reverse-cycle compressor for heating; its purpose is to increase the target water temperature from the standard 60°C up to 70°C. The electric element is not used in Hybrid Mode, nor is it used in any of the other normal operating modes.
The electric element has its own dedicated operating mode called "ELE". This mode can be selected via the app if you specifically want to heat the water using the electric element—for example, if the reverse-cycle heating system were to fail or if servicing is required.
Overall, my experience has been very positive. The system delivers plenty of hot water, operates at a reasonable noise level, the app works exactly as expected, and the controls are straightforward once you understand the different operating modes. I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs over the long term, but after more than a month of use, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Heat pump is good value and heats water for little electricity. It is a bit nosier than I expected but got used to it and the wifi dropped out a couple of times and had to restart. Overall happy with system. Show details
Great value for money product. The only improvement that I can think if is a more stable WiFi connection. Alternatively, or even better, that the user than set different heating modes and heating temperatures at different times of the day/days of the week. That would allow a user to maximise the cost savings of the units. Show details
