Don't use the recipe book! – The machine is fine but try using 450g of breadflour instead of 600g etc..... The flour ratio is FAR too high. Use some Panasonic recipes for a "medium" size loaf. Show details
Sunbeam bake house – i have no freeking clue whats wrong ive cooked 5 loaves and they are all cooked on the out side and raw on the inside im peeking really starting to lose my mind with this thing. im using scales to measure everything i have read the book i dont know whats worng.... hmm getting read to take it back.... the lcd display
Works a treat – Bake house 4500. Easy to operate. The fruit and nut dispenser work as it is meant to. The setting and the timer works. Produce good crusty breads. Great for making pizza dough. Like the look and feel. No over heating issues. No problems so far. We had the old model (paid around $250) that was used occasionally for over 5 years. Eventually the motor gave out. Easy to operate and produce nice crusty bread loafs. Show reply
Measuring Spoon Wrong – My results were very mixed and i couldn't figure it out. The nonstick didn't seem to work very well, i always had to scrape the sides down, and the whole was so cheap and tinny that the breadpan was bending itself out of shape in use. However, for $130 one can't be too fussy, and i couldn't afford better. After 2 years of using the machine,… Read more
despite baking at least twice a week, (give it points for lasting that long) i still couldn't get bread to turn out all the time - no matter what i did. I followed recipes in the Sunbeam book religiously, using their handy measuring spoon, tried adapting the recipes, and tried every tip the baker sites have. Sometimes i used my own spoons, sometimes the one that came with the breadmaker. I kept thinking maybe it was just the weather, and nearly gave up many times. I can't eat shop-bought bread, or would never have made it this far, but finally, I figured it out.
The measuring spoon given by Sunbeam is wrong. It is in NZ (or US) tablespoon measurements. A NZ metric tablespoon is 15ml - an Australian metric tablespoon is 20ml. So instead of a tablespoon i was using 3/4 of one. A shame, as the recipe book that comes with the breadmaker is in Australian Metric.
I tried ringing Sunbeam, thinking they'd want to know, however my news didn't seem to penetrate. I was offered a new spoon. I asked how that would help, as the spoon was the same one they'd already given me, and didn't work with their recipe book. Sunbeam seemed to think i was going to demand money from them. I said i don't want compensation (or a new spoon!), i was trying to do them a favour by telling them. You know, a customer being nice?
I tried explaining again, but despite talking to a supervisor, Sunbeam's rep didn't seem to grasp the notion that they were sabotaging their own product. I gave up in the end, and told the rep (politely) what i thought of the company's idiocy in the face of someone trying to help them.
I won't be buying Sunbeam again. Does the hard mixing for me Cheap, metal parts bend easily, measuring spoon incorrect for recipe book, non-stick barely lasted a month
Excellent – I have been using this machine for about a month and put at least 10 loafs through it. I use fresh ingredients and weigh everything on a digital scale and haven't had any dramas. I find the multi-grain bread from the supermarket turn out awesome! It's a family favorite. I tend to add extra yeast with every loaf though and this gives nicer bread… Read more
in my opinion. It's all trial and error but I am happy with this product so far. Makes nice bread, pretty good value
Use it all the time – I dont have a problem i think it is great , Everything has turned out for me , Pizzas are tops , Fruit loaf unreal, bread rolls delicious and put in freezer bag they stay real fresh. No problems with it love it, Inexpensive.
Mine was great until – I've been using my Sunbeam Bakehouse for several months without a problem until one night I heard an almighty crash! The breadmaker had bounced off the bench during the mixing stage! It's now too damaged to work. So, a word of warning - don't leave yours too near the edge of the bench! made excellent bread every time machine moves during vigorous mixing Show reply
Excellent – Love love love this product. Couldnt recommend it more. I boight this online and then read all the reviews which were quiet negative and became very skeptical about what i had bought. I have followed the recipe for the breadmix wholemeal bread by defiance which comes in the manual you receive with the product and have found it to be the yummiest… Read more
bread. Fluffy and soft on the inside with a beautiful crisp on the outside. So easy to use also, now it takes me 1 minute to load beautiful bread in breadmaker. I make the 1 kg loaf in wholemeal which takes approx. 3 hrs and 50 min. Machine can be a litle noisy with the knewding and interva. Beeps so i suggest not to put it on before you go to bed, unless you have a big house and cant hear what is going on in the kitchen! Love this machine and have already bought 2 for family members....will never go back to buying bread at the supermarket, that stuff us rubbish in comparison to this. Healthy and delicious for my family! Yummy fresh bread, healthy and great value for money, my family love it. Have gone through 4 loaves of bread in 3 days. My 2 year old has 4 slices for breakfast and he usually wont eat toast Have found none

Best breadmaker – Mums always made her own bread and because of arthritis finally gave in and bought a breadmaker. When she had used her old sunbeam bake house she gave it to me to try. We used it for another 2 years full time before it finally made a bad smell and died. We bought the same brand and model but 3 months later the clips which held the tin in broke… Read more
so we took it back a d had it replaced with the new improved bake house. This model is far superior with a removable paddle, better more even baking, quieter. If it is bouncing around during mixing your dough is too dry. Foolproof very cheap fresh bread Wish it would beep when the mixing finishes to remind me to remove the paddle
Good – Great and a great price. I make bread so good if not better then the Panasonic that everyone told me to buy. Thanks Sunbeam. I love this breadmaker now but at the start found every I tried failed now I have a Simon and Alison Holst bread book and have made lots of the most yummy bread and have fallen in love with the breadmaker. The recipes that… Read more
came with my breadmaker and the NZ rep that I talked seemed only to recommend that I take the breadmaker back to the retailer and get my money back if it was too hard for me to understand the recipes. Most unhelpful! So all NZer's get the Simon and Alison Holst bread book.
Bad – Awful, I really hate this breadmaker, it was a spur of the moment purchase and I really wish I had read the other reviews before purchasing this - don't do it! It's white - thats the only pro I can find! The BEEPING drives me insane, it beeps when you turn it on, then again about an hour into the cycle (14 long beeps here), then again about 15… Read more
mins before the bread is ready and then at the end to let you know it is ready. This is a very high pitched, loud and annoying beep - so if you plan on setting the timer so the bread is ready in the morning be prepared to be awake from 4am with all the beeping And like everyone else said, the bread is pretty dense!
Excellent – Those people who say their bread is yeasty or dense, do not blame the breadmaker!!!!!! it is the recipe you are using, try adapting the amount of liquid to dry ingredients. It is so frustrating listening to misguided bigwits! Makes consistently good bread. Excellent value. Its not a Breville.

Know better, choose better.
Yummmmmmmy! – recipes are brilliant, clear instructions, easy to use, so far i have made pizza dough (absolutely brilliant), banana bread (great), chocolate braed (is baking right now, sometimes you just have to use your general knowledge about baking makes great bread, reliable, great recipes, good instructions, a bit loud
Excellent – This is a great product. It's my first bread maker and I would buy again. I followed the recipes to the letter and made three perfect loaves of bread. Couldn't be easier to use and the paddle leaves only a small hole in the finished loaf. I only used Coles brand ingredients (not the pre-mix bread flours), nothing fancy. The included recipes were great and easy to follow.
Good – Makes nice white bread, will have to try other loaves and then submit another review. Also will try and find a solution for the turbo loaf setting At this stage we have only tried the normal white loaf and find it yummy!!! We are having trouble making the turbo loaves not sure why....
Bad – I am wondering if this machine can make decent bread. My friend has the earlier model and gets beautiful bread. Maybe this machine is good for everything but bread! Is Sunbeam looking into this? A recall? easy to use, makes great pizza dough bread is too dense...changed yeast, changed flour, changed recipes, bread is just too dense
OK – This is a good product for someone wanting to save money on their weekly grocery bill. However, the taste and density takes a bit of getting used to. It makes pretty good bread. Much cheaper to make bread than to buy bread. Also makes great dough for pizza etc. Can be a bit dense. Also the bread has an unusually 'yeasty' flavour.
OK – This machine was given to me as a wedding gift. I first got excited and tried making bread but it always came out dense and useless. I used expensive bread flours, bread mixes etc and it still did not work as I wished it would. One day my gas oven went bust and I had to make my batch of banana bread and it came out moist and delicious. I tried… Read more
making jams many times and they too came out just lovely. So now I just use it for those purposes and also for kneading the dough before I let it rest again in the loaf pan and bake it in my oven. So I guess if you get it as a wedding gift worth keeping for other purposes but I would not go out and buy one. It makes great jams (yes jams!!). I use it to make a moist banana bread too. I've never liked making bread with it. They turn out dense and we end up throwing it out.
Bad – This bread maker is okay, but if you want fluffy bread I wouldn't get this one. it's great for making pizza dough, or thick dense bread. We tried weighing all the ingredients to the exact measurements, but still couldn't get it right. We got it about 5 years ago and have probably used it about 8 times. Smells great, but the end result isn't as… Read more
good. :( Very simple menu and programming. Looks good. We couldn't get the bread right, it kept making very dense bread, especially when we used the timer so that it would start making it in the morning.
