Leaking water, worst customer service – Kettle started leaking from water gauge. Though Kettle is out of warranty it still looks as new. Sent an email to sunbeam customer care. Received no reply. Leaks water and lid does not open – Upon reading the other reviews, l too am disappointed with the kettle. I spent alot of money on this kettle and made the decision to purchase it for its brand name and functionality. It now leaks water from the "window level" and the lid has to be manually opened. Spoke to someone is customer service and because the warranty period has expired, are not interested in the complaint. Will definitely not be buying any sunbeam product again Show details

Lid no longer opens – Considering how much this kettle is, I would expect the lid to keep working at the very least, however we are now unable to open the lid to fill the kettle. We have had this kettle for approximately two years. I see from older posts this is a common complaint with this model. I would reconsider buying another Sunbeam kettle and look at other… Read more

Finally giving trouble after three years – I got the kettle from Myers to whom I had returned under warranty another make. Insisting I did not want a replacement, the staff actually suggested the Sunbeam to me with the promise of very little trouble AND gave me a generous discount, perhaps to rid themselves of a grumbling customer. This kettle has been a delight to use, looks good in the… Read more ·  2

kitchen, gets compliments from use by visitors and, above all, is fast. Only this week has it glitched, the automatic shut off being inoperative. Let's face it, repair probably not worth it but, in spite of some of the comments here (Melting plastic? Really?) I will most like get another.

Can be fixed! It was expensive and a good kettle but mine leaked after 3 years of use – They all seem to leak around the casing and glass level indicator. After some research I went to bunnings and bought some food safe clear sealant (the stuff that needs turps to clean up) it can cope up to over 200 degrees celcius. I put a very small bead around the metal glass join and then used a blade to clean off the excess. 24 hours later. You cannot see ANY repair and it worked completely. Very happy again.  Show details

So far it's been excellent – It's new, but so far it's the best kettle I've ever used. No more hiding the kettle in the laundry when I want to boil it AND watch TV at the same time, like I had to do with the last 2 kettles. The SunBeam is almost completely silent for the first minute then slowly builds to a low noise while it reaches boiling point. And it has a "keep warm"… Read more ·  1

button that keeps it at the selected temperature for 20 minutes, by reapplying the power for about 10 seconds every 2 or 3 minutes. And did I mention how quite it was? Imagine being so happy with a kettle that you go online and write a review! You people must be thinking I have no life. Well, maybe just at the moment I don't, but that doesn't take away from the fact that (so far) this is the best kettle I've ever used.

UPDATE for July 2016: It's been going strong for 2 years but the lid button won't open the lid, making the kettle pretty useless. It still works, we just can't open it to fill it. Oh well. It's really quiet, and has a nifty "keep warm" feature, and the temperature is variable.

Nice design but not built to last - broken lid – This kettle has an elegant design overall and excellent functionality to set water temps to brew tea just right is great. We purchased this kettle about 3 years ago and have used it daily. There has been the very occasional instance where the water would just not boil and instead shut off early but the kettle generally worked reliably over the… Read more

years to boil water daily. The lid has always been unreliable in its opening and closing - the opening button just did not open the lid every time which meant that sometimes you had to pick the lid open which has been dangerous when the kettle was hot. Unfortunately the lid has finally broken off at the hinge, rendering it useless. This was not a cheap kettle and it is very disappointing that the lid has broken down in normal use, after only a few years. I want to like this kettle (and we did!), but the failure has tarnished my review of it. The operation life of 3 years before failing is just not good enough Sunbeam. Disappointing end to this kettle.

Rubbish, dangerous - Sunbeam MUST be investigated for such substandard – This kettle was replaced twice. First time the lid stopped opening and the inside plastic started disintegrating with pieces being located inside the kettle. The second time we had the same issue, plus the handle began to heat up to burning point. Also the handle became slightly detached. I simply did not want to deal with Sunbeam staff again either as the made me feel like i had misused the kettle. Show details

Works perfectly except for holding water – Worked very well for two years. Love the variable temperature setting as I need a set temperature for my Aeropress coffee gadget. On close inspection, the window has developed very fine cracks which… Read more

has weakened the integrity of the kettle. I came home and the contents of the kettle had drained into the base unit and inside the cupboards. Awful product, made even worse by the premium price it cost. Also bought a matching toaster which is average at best. I will avoid all Sunbeam products in the future.

A Waste of Money – If you pay the extra for a Sunbeam Cafe series kettle you are probably wasting your money as if like mine it lasts only 4 years. Mine leaked around the water gauge overnight and made quite a mess. There was so much water on the bench and base plate that it may have been an electrical hazard but I'm no expert. Leaking kettle after 4 years – I was so surprised when my kettle suddenly started to leak........I'd left it to boil and returned to find the bench top drenched in water. Lid failure – The kettle was great until the lid release started to stick within the first 12 months. It progressed to not working at all and needed to be levered open. Very poor design/ materials in the lid/top handle fixing – I bought my kettle in July 2014 and had good service for 2 years. A few months ago, the lid release started to become unreliable. A few weeks ago, ( early Dec 2016) the handle mounting appeared to be loosening. It was not apparently easy to tighten up so we lived with that up to Xmas. Yesterday, the problem fully appeared: the black plastic… Read more

components associared with the lid hinge and top handle fixing crumbled into the inside of the kettle. It seems clear to me that the fixtures are very poorly designed (weak screw fixture) and the unit was manufactured materials ( not suitable for 100c steam and the stress of lifting the heavy kettle plus water. I believe this service life is inadequate for domestic use only and will seek repair or replacement. I note many similar reviews.

Most disappointing sunbeam product I've ever owned – I have had this kettle for just over 2 1/2 years, and it has had many problems with the lid not opening until recently it just stopped opening all together. Pathetic and dangerous – Do not buy this kettle. After two years the window began leaking. This is incredibly dangerous as the water seeps into the base and can not get out. The customer service representative told me that electrocution can not occur as the safety switch would be tripped. I am glad Sunbeam relies on electrical safety switches to prevent their products from causing electrocution rather than making their kettle water tight.

Great Kettle until lid stopped opening at 16 months - But good service from Sunbeam who replaced und – I really want to write a great review for this kettle. As a kettle it's been great, fantastic controls, durable stainless steel inside and out and a decent capacity. opening - which made it very difficult to fill. I have to pay credit to Sunbeam who I called initially hoping that they would have a quick fix to perform myself. They had no easy solution, but offered to replace with new model despite it being out of warranty. I suspect that the Australian consumer law may have something to do with their easy going out of warranty attitude but as I said a $100+ kettle should last 5 years IMHO. Credit also goes to Harvey Norman Bunbury (WA), as I didnt have the reciept I took the kettle down to them to see if they could help or print a new receipt for me. They were great and offered to swap for a new kettle and said that they would sort out the warranty with Sunbeam (who also said Sunbeam were good to deal with).

The replacement kettle model KE9650 feels a bit flimsy in the handle and lid unlike the previous model which was solid - I don't expect it to last any longer than the KE9600 but fingers crossed.

I should also note that we got the KE9600 after we had two expensive Breville's fail. The sunbeams have lasted longer than the Breville's and are constructed better out of stainless steel inside and out.

Lesson from this - don't expect expensive appliances to last these days, but if you buy from good Bricks and mortar retailers you are likely to get well looked after in the event of failure. 5 stars for Harvey Norman Bunbury and Sunbeam for the after warranty support!
