Leaking water, worst customer service – Kettle started leaking from water gauge. Though Kettle is out of warranty it still looks as new. Sent an email to sunbeam customer care. Received no reply. Then called Sunbeam and they were not interested in my issue even though there seems to be numerous complaints about water leakage. This is obviously a design issue or poorly/cheaply made… Read more
kettle even though it is worth considerably more than other electric kettles. I will not buy another Sunbeam product.
Leaks water and lid does not open – Upon reading the other reviews, l too am disappointed with the kettle. I spent alot of money on this kettle and made the decision to purchase it for its brand name and functionality. It now leaks water from the "window level" and the lid has to be manually opened. Spoke to someone is customer service and because the warranty period has expired, are not interested in the complaint. Will definitely not be buying any sunbeam product again Show details
Hi arivalchick, thank you, we will take your thoughts on board.
Lid no longer opens – Considering how much this kettle is, I would expect the lid to keep working at the very least, however we are now unable to open the lid to fill the kettle. We have had this kettle for approximately two years. I see from older posts this is a common complaint with this model. I would reconsider buying another Sunbeam kettle and look at other… Read more
brands that are much more reliable, given the price you are paying for this product. What a shame Sunbeam didn't bother to address this issue with the lid seeing it was quite a common complaint. I would not recommend this product.

Finally giving trouble after three years – I got the kettle from Myers to whom I had returned under warranty another make. Insisting I did not want a replacement, the staff actually suggested the Sunbeam to me with the promise of very little trouble AND gave me a generous discount, perhaps to rid themselves of a grumbling customer. This kettle has been a delight to use, looks good in the… Read more · 2
kitchen, gets compliments from use by visitors and, above all, is fast. Only this week has it glitched, the automatic shut off being inoperative. Let's face it, repair probably not worth it but, in spite of some of the comments here (Melting plastic? Really?) I will most like get another.
Can be fixed! It was expensive and a good kettle but mine leaked after 3 years of use – They all seem to leak around the casing and glass level indicator. After some research I went to bunnings and bought some food safe clear sealant (the stuff that needs turps to clean up) it can cope up to over 200 degrees celcius. I put a very small bead around the metal glass join and then used a blade to clean off the excess. 24 hours later. You cannot see ANY repair and it worked completely. Very happy again. Show details
So far it's been excellent – It's new, but so far it's the best kettle I've ever used. No more hiding the kettle in the laundry when I want to boil it AND watch TV at the same time, like I had to do with the last 2 kettles. The SunBeam is almost completely silent for the first minute then slowly builds to a low noise while it reaches boiling point. And it has a "keep warm"… Read more · 1
button that keeps it at the selected temperature for 20 minutes, by reapplying the power for about 10 seconds every 2 or 3 minutes. And did I mention how quite it was? Imagine being so happy with a kettle that you go online and write a review! You people must be thinking I have no life. Well, maybe just at the moment I don't, but that doesn't take away from the fact that (so far) this is the best kettle I've ever used.
UPDATE for July 2016: It's been going strong for 2 years but the lid button won't open the lid, making the kettle pretty useless. It still works, we just can't open it to fill it. Oh well. It's really quiet, and has a nifty "keep warm" feature, and the temperature is variable.

Nice design but not built to last - broken lid – This kettle has an elegant design overall and excellent functionality to set water temps to brew tea just right is great. We purchased this kettle about 3 years ago and have used it daily. There has been the very occasional instance where the water would just not boil and instead shut off early but the kettle generally worked reliably over the… Read more
years to boil water daily. The lid has always been unreliable in its opening and closing - the opening button just did not open the lid every time which meant that sometimes you had to pick the lid open which has been dangerous when the kettle was hot. Unfortunately the lid has finally broken off at the hinge, rendering it useless. This was not a cheap kettle and it is very disappointing that the lid has broken down in normal use, after only a few years. I want to like this kettle (and we did!), but the failure has tarnished my review of it. The operation life of 3 years before failing is just not good enough Sunbeam. Disappointing end to this kettle.

Rubbish, dangerous - Sunbeam MUST be investigated for such substandard – This kettle was replaced twice. First time the lid stopped opening and the inside plastic started disintegrating with pieces being located inside the kettle. The second time we had the same issue, plus the handle began to heat up to burning point. Also the handle became slightly detached. I simply did not want to deal with Sunbeam staff again either as the made me feel like i had misused the kettle. Show details

Works perfectly except for holding water – Worked very well for two years. Love the variable temperature setting as I need a set temperature for my Aeropress coffee gadget. It looks great and I like the wide open mouth that makes it easy to clean. 2 years of use and it's started leaking from the transparent window. On close inspection, the window has developed very fine cracks which… Read more
has weakened the integrity of the kettle. I came home and the contents of the kettle had drained into the base unit and inside the cupboards. Awful product, made even worse by the premium price it cost. Also bought a matching toaster which is average at best. I will avoid all Sunbeam products in the future.

A Waste of Money – If you pay the extra for a Sunbeam Cafe series kettle you are probably wasting your money as if like mine it lasts only 4 years. Mine leaked around the water gauge overnight and made quite a mess. There was so much water on the bench and base plate that it may have been an electrical hazard but I'm no expert. I have noticed similar reviews on… Read more
this site and now wished I had been aware of this site before I wasted my money on a supposed quality sunbeam product. I realise that it is out of warranty but rang Sunbeam to voice my displeasure at having wasted my money on what appears to be a disposable kettle.
If you buy a cheaper model and replace it every two years you will be way in front but what a waste of resources. Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door doesn't seem to have inspired Sunbeam.
Leaking kettle after 4 years – I was so surprised when my kettle suddenly started to leak........I'd left it to boil and returned to find the bench top drenched in water. The seal around the window showing the level of water in the kettle no longer doing its job. A kettle costing $119 should last more than 4 years! I love the design of the cafe series but I have totally… Read more
lost confidence in the Sunbeam brand. If they are not able to manufacture a product to do its job then its not a company I wish to give my hard earned dollars to.
Lid failure – The kettle was great until the lid release started to stick within the first 12 months. It progressed to not working at all and needed to be levered open. Now after three years the lid mechanism has completely crumbled and the lid has fallen out of the kettle. Most concerning was the hard and sharp bits of plastic that would fall into the kettle… Read more
which my husband almost swallowed. Considering the price I expected better from Sunbeam. I notice three things:
1. Many complaints about the same problem
2. Made in China
3. Now discontinued
Sunbeam should have a product recall and replace these faulty kettles.
Failed after 2 years - Dissapointing – As per others, we were happy enough with this kettle and is quietness. After near 3 years the lid hinge mechanism crumble and failed. Still works but lid is a pain. As usual in the modern world, manufacturers claims of quality are pure rubbish. These companies deliberately build in redundancy. It is a disgrace! Show details

A kettle should not leak – I can't tell when i bought it as the reciept is faded but so disappointed it leaks :( for an appliance with only one function im gutted its crap Its leaked all over my benchtop abd i don't know whether to tale the reciept into david Jones to decipher or to call the acc about advice about products lasting a reasonable amount of time Show details
Not worth buying – Original purchase Dec'14 - Harvey Norman replaced July'15 after digital display mostly not working - now replacement kettle digital display rarely working & kettle has also started making long 'beeping' sound - rang Sunbeam & was told by the very helpful Katherine that Warranty period is 12 mths & basically end of story. Previous & less expensive kettles have lasted much longer than either of these. Show details
Very poor design/ materials in the lid/top handle fixing – I bought my kettle in July 2014 and had good service for 2 years. A few months ago, the lid release started to become unreliable. A few weeks ago, ( early Dec 2016) the handle mounting appeared to be loosening. It was not apparently easy to tighten up so we lived with that up to Xmas. Yesterday, the problem fully appeared: the black plastic… Read more
components associared with the lid hinge and top handle fixing crumbled into the inside of the kettle. It seems clear to me that the fixtures are very poorly designed (weak screw fixture) and the unit was manufactured materials ( not suitable for 100c steam and the stress of lifting the heavy kettle plus water. I believe this service life is inadequate for domestic use only and will seek repair or replacement. I note many similar reviews.
Good until it leaks – Our was purchased in 2012 - we haven't had electrical problems and it was quiet for a while. Maybe it needed de-scaling as mentioned by Sunbeam. After 4 years it started leaking just like others. Others had this occur sooner, so it looks like it might be a design issue. Show details
I now know why it's discontinued ELECTRIC SHOCK – This kettle was purchases just over two years ago from Harvey Norman. The lid hasn't opened properly for 6 months and this morning it gave me an ELECTRIC SHOCK when I pressed the start/cancel button. When spending over $100 for a kettle this kettle has been a serious lemon. So if you want that extra kick start in the morning and the extra… Read more

Lid stopped opening then broke off – As above, the lid jammed then broke off completely. The concept was good with the temperature display as I brew some 90C teas. The kettle lasted about 2.5 years but when pay a higher price you expect good quality and a longer life for such a product. Disappointed with Sunbeam.

Most disappointing sunbeam product I've ever owned – I have had this kettle for just over 2 1/2 years, and it has had many problems with the lid not opening until recently it just stopped opening all together. Just yesterday the lid broke. Prior to this the kettle would stop working at around 48 and 65 degrees and sometimes not want to stop at 100 degrees. I found it hard to find another kettle that… Read more
looked as good and was as solidly built as this kettle. But I am really disappointed with this product and with Sunbeam for making such a lemon.
Leaking and faulty lid – The first 7 months was fine, very happy with the kettle, then it started to leak through the window. Had it replaced and it did the same thing again. Replaced once more and now there is a problem with the lid. Surely this product deserves to be recalled. For the price you do expect quality and for it to be long lasting. accc.gov.au should be involved in as Sunbeam seems to palm it off with no responsibility whatsoever.
Pathetic and dangerous – Do not buy this kettle. After two years the window began leaking. This is incredibly dangerous as the water seeps into the base and can not get out. The customer service representative told me that electrocution can not occur as the safety switch would be tripped. I am glad Sunbeam relies on electrical safety switches to prevent their products from causing electrocution rather than making their kettle water tight.

Do not buy. Started leaking water after 18 months. Rude customer representative – - 30th May 2016 - It has been a great kettle until now.. coincidentally after the 12 months warranty has finished, the kettle starts breaking down? I purchased the Sunbeam Cafe Series Kettle on the 6th December 2014 and it has started to leak water from the bottle of the kettle. Not just a few drips... a large puddle from where the kettle heats… Read more
up. I called the Customer service line just now 1300 881 861 -after 3 attempts due to the large number of people calling. This is already a red flag.
Save yourself trouble and stay away from this kettle. My old Bellini kettle still works after 4 years!!! And it costs $40! The only reason I purchased this was because I purchased the Sunbeam Cafe Series Blender (which costs $360) and so I wanted to get the kettle to complete the Cafe Series set. Yes vanity. Lesson learnt.
After speaking to the customer service representative today, I will definitely not purchase any other Sunbeam products as they were not helpful either.

Cafe series it ain't : starting leaking from the glass panels – The product and marketing team need to go back to the drawing board. I thought cafe series meant robust and longevity, ie the kettle will last longer than 2 yrs. The kettle has started leaking and have reported the issue to Samsung for a full replacement. Awaiting response from their customer service team.

Kettle that doesn't hold water! – Not even three years old and this kettle doesn't hold water. It leaks through the side window. Seriously, a kettle that leaks is like a car with three wheels. I would expect a lifetime guarantee that a kettle would hold water. The electronics may not be expected to last forever, but the jug should. I cannot recommend this product.

1.2 years on & junk just like the newer model – We bought this kettle as it looked substantial & had some nice features. Unfortunately this Sunbeam kettle had all the same problem as most others express. Worked well for a time 100*C then switch off. Later in life, about the 12 month mark, when put on to boil later would switch off @ 65*C maybe 75*C then 95*C never 100*C again. Looked on the… Read more

Took it back to the Good Guys Robina, even though out of warranty 2 or 3 months & they graciously gave us a credit of 1/2 what we paid & we put that toward a new Delongi.
Sunbeam won't have anything in our home again.

Dangerous kettle - do not buy! – Were happy enough with our expensive Sunbeam kettle (swapped & paid extra $$ at The Good Guys after we returned our Russell Hobbs kettle with a faulty lid). whilst still under warranty. Then more puddles would appear as we accused each other of sloppily filling the kettle!
Only realised where it was coming from when started to leak profusely. By then it was out of warranty.
The store we purchased it from asked us to take it in (quite a trek) but when we got there, advised us to contact Sunbeam Customer Care. I called & then emailed them.
7/9/2015 Got a reply to my email saying my enquiry had been submitted and would be answered by one of the Customer Care Team members within three (3) working days. Never heard from them since.
Sloppy manufacturing - and sloppy customer service.
Will never buy this brand again.

Doesn't last long – My kettle lasted a little longer (2.5 years) the lid malfunctioned after 2 years and now the water gauge is split and leaking water. I've followed the care and cleaning instructions. Disappointed with the product and I thought it would last longer. I purchased the kettle thinking it would last longer than the cheap ones.

Great until the handle and lid fell apart after just 15 months! – I bought this to replace a top of the line Breville that had stopped working after 3 years which I thought was disappointing. It seemed to be a good replacement at first as I loved how quiet it was and liked the temperature display (helps with timing the warming of the pot!). But come on, 15 months usage and the lid mechanism fails and the handle starts coming away! A $50 kettle maybe but not a $100+!

Great for 18 months! Now defunct! – Was a very expensive and very nice kettle for 18 months before the lid opening mechanism broke. Sadly now fit for the bin. Expected more from what was sold as a premium product. $110 for 18 months of use is not great value in my book. Won't be buying a sunbeam kettle again.

Dangerous Product – What a disgrace. Just over a year old. Lid won't open, leaking, and this morning my sons hand got scalded picking it up by the handle. The handle had heated up to burning point. I have contacted Sunbeam. Obviously a real problem and should have been recalled. SO DANGEROUS. I got asked about descaling etc...as if somehow i held some responsibility for their crap product!
Just out of warranty and the lid will not close – Have only had this for just over 12 months and the lid will not stay shut. Overall the kettle has been great until now, will try calling Sunbeam and see if they will replace. Given the cost of the item I would have thought it would last a lot longer than it has.
Great Kettle until lid stopped opening at 16 months - But good service from Sunbeam who replaced und – I really want to write a great review for this kettle. As a kettle it's been great, fantastic controls, durable stainless steel inside and out and a decent capacity. Unfortunately when you pay good $140 for a kettle I would expect to get 5 years from it - I've had many $50 kettles last this long. The kettle finally failed when the lid stopped… Read more
opening - which made it very difficult to fill. I have to pay credit to Sunbeam who I called initially hoping that they would have a quick fix to perform myself. They had no easy solution, but offered to replace with new model despite it being out of warranty. I suspect that the Australian consumer law may have something to do with their easy going out of warranty attitude but as I said a $100+ kettle should last 5 years IMHO. Credit also goes to Harvey Norman Bunbury (WA), as I didnt have the reciept I took the kettle down to them to see if they could help or print a new receipt for me. They were great and offered to swap for a new kettle and said that they would sort out the warranty with Sunbeam (who also said Sunbeam were good to deal with).
The replacement kettle model KE9650 feels a bit flimsy in the handle and lid unlike the previous model which was solid - I don't expect it to last any longer than the KE9600 but fingers crossed.
I should also note that we got the KE9600 after we had two expensive Breville's fail. The sunbeams have lasted longer than the Breville's and are constructed better out of stainless steel inside and out.
Lesson from this - don't expect expensive appliances to last these days, but if you buy from good Bricks and mortar retailers you are likely to get well looked after in the event of failure. 5 stars for Harvey Norman Bunbury and Sunbeam for the after warranty support!
Terrible – I purchased this kettle 9 months ago.. It has started leaking quite bad through the plastic window.. And when I say leaking I mean leaking really bad - it's quite dangerous! I have purchased 2 sunbeam products this past year and I have been very unhappy with both of these. I wish I had read the reviews prior to spending $139!!
