Large heavy and messy but sometimes feels convenient - but is it really? – I bought one of these in June. As soon as I got it out and moved the lid up and down and worked out how the locking mechanism worked I said to myself that's the first thing that will go - it got steadily looser and looser and now only really works on one side. This is not a deal breaker, but it means that most of the weight of the lid sits fully… Read more

on the food. This works for steaks and sandwiches but you need to rely on your egg rings to stop the lid squashing your eggs flat, for instance. Now six months later the handle just broke on one side. Again, you can still use it but it's now flappy on that side and you have to lift it from the other side. Not a good look. We've been using it pretty consistently. It's had a lot of use, maybe almost every day for some periods, but by no means what a cafe would put it through.

There is no off button which is probably a plus because it's simpler and no switch to get greasy. Just switch it on at the wall.

There is only one temperature. If you think the temperature is too hot and it's cooking your meat too quickly, there's nothing you can do about it. I think it's about right; sometimes I want to turn it down but can't.

It's great for eggs. You can just switch it on and throw the egg rings on, give them a spray of oil, and then crack the eggs in. But you can do that in a pan as well. If you have a gas cooker it's probably cheaper to use a pan than heating this whole griller up on both sides just to do your eggs, but it seems convenient, just for eggs, because there's little mess from eggs, you can wipe the plate afterwards with a paper towel, and not much else to do. But you could do that with a pan too, honestly.

But this griller is big enough for a couple of steaks, and you can do 4 burgers together, and that's great, but here's where you notice the grease. The thing gets very greasy all over. Of course there's a catch tray but when you lift the lid it drips behind the griller onto the work top, and it gets all over the cable and the hinges which are hell to clean. The thing is never really clean once you start doing meat in it.

Then there's the grooves in the top section. It's supposed to be a positive that you get stripes on your food. Pretend it's BBQ or something. But those grooves get burnt food stuck in them and are hell to clean. Cleaning the top is horrible because it flaps around inside the hinge so you have to kind of steady it at a wierd angle against a wall to stop if flapping about while you try to clean it. I wish the plates were removable, or lockable, or opened 180' so you could lay it flat. Cleaning the flat bottom plate is fine.

If you don't have a cooker at all, and you want a portable electric grill that can do eggs and steaks then I guess this is a great solution to make cooking possible, but otherwise I'd rather have a pan. The thing takes a lot of space on the worktop and is difficult to clean. It doesn't really do toasties like the smaller toasties do. It doesn't seal in the filling like those other ones do. It's a different kind of toasting. Overall I've felt like it's done good service over 6 months but now it's falling apart, I'm fed up of it taking up so much space, it's always greasy, and I'm thinking I'd be better off using a fry pan. I might get a smaller toastie maker instead and throw this away.

Brilliant unit – With the cost of living increasing so quickly, we decided to get our own sandwich press to make our own preferred sandwiches and save money taking all the kids out for expensive cafe food. This unit is great. Everyone can make their own type of sandwich and they come out brilliantly, just as good as a shop bought one, at a fraction of the price.… Read more ·  1

More than paid for itself after just a couple of months. Need to be very attentive with kids trying to make their own, but that's the case with anything that heats up. Variable height control is good if they load up on fillings. Making 6 at once is fantastic, as nobody feels they're missing out.

Is there anything it can't do? – I've been using the Subeam sandwich press and grill for almost a month now and have got to say it's impressed me. Steak and chicken breast cook evenly using the hinged lid and the retractable drip tray catches any stray juices that might try to find their way to the kitchen bench I've particularly enjoyed using it for cooking bacon and eggs in the… Read more

morning. It heats up to temperature quickly and once I'm finished with my breakfast the non-stick surface takes no time at all to clean with a damp cloth before getting on with my day. The top lid is quite heavy for a sandwich press but that's not a problem with the locking mechanism giving you the ability to set the lid height at any position, and once its set it stays exactly where you left it. So there's no excuse for your toasted sandwich coming out a squashed mess. Infact I don't think Ive ever made a better grilled cheese toasty. While it would be a worthy addition to anyones kitchen bench I could really see this press being particularly useful in a small apartment as it can be used in so many different ways and replace several other appliances helping to save on space. I could also see it being useful in a workplace kitchenette where there may not be in built appliances. When it came time to reveiw the Sunbeam Cafe style sandwich press I was torn as to whether I should give it 5 stars or not as it really is such a fantastic sandwich press/grill, especially for the price. However I would need to give it a little more time to see just how durable it is before giving it 100% pass (not that it has given me any reason to doubt it). If you're in the market for a good quality sandwich press that can do it all at reasonable price, I don't think you will be dissapointed with the Sunbeam Cafe Style series. I certainly wasn't.

Space Saving, Portable and Generous Plate Size – We were amazed at how large it was but given what it can do and ability to stand, it can be put away seamlessly. Overall, the size and extra feature made it fun to use. The top plate folds downward and inwards to keep mess inside the plates whilst the bottom plate has a front opening to remove extra juices. mean that your steak will not be squished unnecessarily. The stand feature is great but it tilts and given its size, it looks unstable. The plates look so generous when you open them up. The bottom is flat and the top is ribbed so you get the best of a flat sear and grill marks. Huge bonus !. The detached drip tray does not feel as high end as the rest of the grill. The top plate made beautiful sear marks on cooked steak and kept juices inside the cafe sandwich maker. Clean up was a breeze and the opening for juices to overflow is a great addition. This grill was made for making pancakes. They came out beautifully. Recommend highly to anyone. Also, tried fried egg that developed a crusty bottom, however, it stuck to the plate. Baked bean sandwich and cheese toast turned out superb. The generous plate size allows multiple eggs and toast to be made at the same time that is very convenient on time and space. Heavy but the handle made it easy to handle. Overall a great addition for large families.

It doesn't need to cost a bomb to be good – Sandwich presses have evolved to be intelligent smart cooking grills these days - with the price tag to match. Our last Sunbeam sandwich press lasted us over 20 years, so I was biased at looking what the brand could muster in 2022. I think this 6 slice version is a great example of not changing a winning recipe and keeping things simple. The… Read more

coatings appear excellent, the hinge mechanism is solid, and the controls are .. well, non-existent :). Plug it in, wait for the green light and away you go. No fancy computerised controllers, LCD displays, buttons etc. Accordingly the price is also still very reasonable. You can have this larger version for around a hundred bucks, which is excellent value considering what some other options in this size category cost due to their overblown features.

Griddle plate on top, flat surface on bottom, so you get the best of both worlds, plus a slide out fat catching pan which allows you to cook some juicer/fattier foods. The best feature in addition to older models however is the locking hinge, which has a simple lever to lock the top into any position. Perfect for just floating the top above your food for fast heatup, or applying firm pressure to something you want grilled.

I think if this lasts even half as long as our previous version, Sunbeam continues to be on a definite winner with this. Very happy with this purchase.

Non-Stick, No Problem – This grill has THE BEST non-stick – meat, veggies, bread – none of it sticks which makes cooking on it so much easier. The cooking area is large enough to cook a full meal for 2 on and the control level means the lid can be placed exactly where you need it. Maximum heat with no squashed food. means the excess oil does sit on the plate. The drip tray does make it nice and easy to clean up though. Overall it’s a great all round grill which heats up quickly and easy to clean.

Best sandwich press I’ve ever used – One thing that always annoyed me is how the sandwiches get squashed by the presses, so I’d use a glass or something else to prevent that from happening. So glad Sunbeam has fixed that issue for me! Easy to adjust it to the height of your preference, I can now have perfect sandwiches, toasted on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Or squashed, if… Read more

that’s what I’m going for. The thing is, it’s up to me to decide, not your press. I found that the heat is spread quite evenly on the top and bottom, so no sides are extra burned. I have the 6-slide one and highly recommend it if you have the kitchen space for it. You can make open wraps (I like them that way), pizzas and even grill things for the whole family. I think the next step would be for the press to have a temperature control switch, and perhaps a structure on the back or side that allows it to stand vertically, making it easier to be stored. All in all, very happy with my Sandwich Press and would recommend it to anyone.

Kitchen Staple – You just have to have a toasted sandwich maker in your kitchen. It’s as important as the kettle and toaster. If you’re in the market for one, this model is a great option. We have the 6 slice version in an empty nester home, just the 2 of us. But of course kidults and their friends/partners/wives inevitably drop in unannounced around lunch time.… Read more

As long as there is bread in the house, we can always manage a toasty for all of some sort. Ham, cheese, tomato is a favourite but you can use whatever’s availability. Try banana and honey - yum.

The “ Cafe Style” Sandwich Maker takes about 3 minutes to warmup to optimal heat, indicated by a light on the top. So if you plug in an turn it on, it’s ready by the time you’ve made your sandwiches. Slide them on with a silicon egg flipper, close the lid, and in 2 minutes lunch is served. Easy, delicious, everybody loves them.

With 6 sandwiches on there ( ok we only had 5 max so far) you can simply close the lid and let it do it’s thing. With only 2, it’s best to use the leaver lock thing on the side to adjust the height otherwise the weight of the lid will flatten your toasties a bit too much.

Cleaning the bottom plate after making toasties is very simple. It’s nonstick so wiping with a wet cloth is quick and easy, best when the plate is still a bit warm. However, I reckon if the corrugated top plate had wavy corrugations ( like a tin roof) instead of very angular ones, it would make it easier to clean. I have to run my wet cloth down each of the deep corrugations to get all the gunk out.

So that’s toasties done. And I give it a 9/10 so far.

Now if using it as a grill, well it does the job. We cooked chicken, bacon, halloumi, zucchini, onion, Indian roti to name a few. Does a great, quick job with all. Leaves the grill lines on your food which always looks good. Would be excellent for burger patties. With the zucchini though, because the slices were different thicknesses the thinner ones didn’t contact the top plate so no grill lines. So make whatever you put on the same thickness for best results.

My issue with using as a grill is the cleaning afterwards. Yes if the food is very fatty the grease runs down and collects in the slide out tray that you can throw in the dishwasher. But as with the toasties, the bottom plate is pretty easy to clean, but the top plate takes a bit of effort if you’ve grilled meat. It might look clean but use a damp white paper towel and you’ll see that you really have to get into each deep corrugation to truly clean the plate. It takes quite some time so I’d rather do the grilling on a bbq or just use a fry pan you can throw in the dishwasher.

So as a griller I say 7/10.

But we’ve had a similar appliance before and 99% of its use is for making toasties. For that, it’s a great product. Can stand vertically for storage if you need to keep it on the bench but we’ve got ours in a large pantry draw lying flat.

We really couldn’t do without a toasted sandwich maker, and this current Sunbeam Cafe Style 6-Slice Sandwich Maker Grill & Press does the job very well.

A sure-fire winner 2 in 1 appliance, so very versatile to make sandwiches and/or use as a grill – I was given this product to review. I will have to admit that I was never a fan of any sandwich press because eating toasted sandwiches always burnt the top of my mouth! Ok, so maybe I should have left the sandwiches cool down ….. Upon opening the box of this Café Style 6 slice Sandwich maker grill and press, I was extremely impressed. The… Read more

quality appears to be superb and the look is very stylish, a sleek stainless steel and black appliance that looks great on our kitchen top.

Packaging was excellent, with easy-to-read instruction manual which doesn’t say much but basics. We have many power points throughout the kitchen benches, so no problem like some say with the short length of the cord.

The press heats up very quickly until the ready light is on. Faster than putting the pan on a gas stove. I have tried with ease to cook a couple of eggs simultaneously with a large slice of bread to the side, which toasted wonderfully light brown by the time the eggs were flipped and cooked both sides. More efficient than using 2 appliances to cook your eggs and toast your bread. I swear the bread toasted by simply lying on the flat surface only and flipping it to cook it whilst the eggs are cooking, tasted better to me than being in a toaster.

There was no mess at all and just a minor wipe to clean. So easy! To begin with from the get-go, it’s a wonderful non-stick surface. Both the flat surface and the top jagged surface were so simple to clean with just a paper towel with whatever if any little residual food was on them. Simple as just wiping away with no fuss, no washing.

Growing to like this press very much, I tried to do a few wraps, one at a time to keep them fresh and hot. The any height control lever is easy to work with, but I notice that the top plate doesn’t sit flat as it says it does. Its tilting slightly back at an angle but has no problem is cooking anything I have tried on it and have found no “cold spots” that are not cooked. I now find that we are using it more regularly now.

I haven’t cooked any meats or vegan products yet due to time constraints and working, but I would assume will make some mess due to the products and maybe just a minimal effort still to clean, but that’s my next project to try.

I would assume that most people would want to store this unit upright in their cupboards, as vertical wastes a lot of space. This is another great feature to be able to stand and store vertically, but not everyone has room to store it vertically in older style kitchen cupboards.

My verdict: It’s a sure-fire winner. Such an excellent product that basically allows you to make toasted sandwiches, toasted wraps and cook simple foods – all with little to with no mess die to the non-stick surface. Its like using 2 appliances at once, so very versatile.

Lastly, for the price, its extremely competitive and not expensive whatever way you look at it.

Perfection - Easy and Simple to Use – At first my thoughts were how on earth is this a Grill and Sandwich Press? also being a Grill as well.

After all this I decided to try some Sausages which turned out great and Sausages cooked well and so yummy

The Steak looked and tasted so good it was cooked to perfection (for my taste of course lol)

And finally a couple of other yummy things to test it well

.: Likes :.

1. I love that you can lock the lid into place so items such as your yummy Toasted Sandwich doesn’t get squashed

2. It’s very fast to setup and get going no length unpacking required (a win)

3. It is large enough to make multiple items at once which having to waste power and time for a smaller unit to take things in and put in due to size

4. It’s quick to heat up and get to temperature making it good for people who don’t want to waste time

5. Super easy to clean with the exception of the Grill section which take a little longe due to the groves

.: Dislikes :.

There isn’t really any dislikes however the “Locking Mechanism” seems a little flimsy to me and if your not careful you potentially could break it and have no way to control the height of the unit

Aside from that I couldn’t find any other issues or faults/dislikes with the unit

I would highly recommend this product to family and friends with the obvious be careful with the lid

I have attached some photos of the outcome to some cooked items

Absolutely in love with this Sandwich Press and Grill

Solid family sized toastie maker – In our household of 5, waiting for your toastie to cool while watching your siblings enjoy theirs, is a fate worse than a missed birthday. times before realising an upgrade from the 2-slice toastie maker you've had since your 20s is in order.

Enter the Sunbeam 6-slice sandwich maker.

This sandwich maker is huge and easy - so perfectly suited what we needed for busy family life. I can easily fit toasties for all 5 of us on it. It heats up quickly and is easily cleaned. Being able to stand it up for easy storage means it fits in the same space in my cupboard as my old 2-slice toastie. The height lever lets me set it to any height - sounds simple, but previously with pre-set heights, we either had a squashed or unevenly toasted sandwich or wrap. Many a toastie have been refused by a toddler for far less.

The combination of the huge size, the drip tray and the grill makes it a perfect wet weather replacement for the BBQ too - a quick sizzle on top with the grill has our sausages looking authentic, our kids happy and us left with an easy clean up.

Overall, as far as toastie makers go, it's well worth the upgrade.

cook 6 sandwiches at the same time and that includes my larger thick slice bread. And with the use of the height lever you get that perfect sandwich without having the contents squashed or pushed out the edges. Then look at the list of uses. Get your perfect fried eggs without having to flip them simply buy adjusting the top plate to the right height, reheating your left over pizza has never been easier and you get that perfect crisp crust base as good or better than from the pizza shop. Bacon, sausages and steak all the way you want them with ease. You can even cook pancakes but you do loose some heat with the top plate fully up so you need to get the adjustment just right. And the height lever also acts as a safety device to keep your top plate locked up and out of the way when required. And then you have the added bonus on the non-stick surfaces which not only helps stop your food from burning but makes cleaning so easy it feels like your Sunbeam Cafe Style 6-Slice Sandwich Press & Maker is cleaning itself. If I have to mention one negative it is the length of the power cord. If the cord was 200 - 300 mm longer it would make it easier to place in most kitchens. The Sunbeam Cafe Style 6-Slice Sandwich Press & Maker is well built and should last for many years.

Great for making wraps and toasted sandwiches – I was lucky enough to try the 6 slice press. I loved the size, I have 5 children and was using a 2 slice press, so this extra big size cut time by alot in toasting. 10 minutes. That was great. It's non stick, so the meat didn't stick. However cleaning it is not just a wipe. You need to cool it and clean after cooking meat to then toast a wrap or toastie. I am giving it 3 stars because the cleaning is not easy. The flat grill is mostly just a wipe, but the ridge top grill is harder to clean. And you can't scrub as you don't want to take coating off, and you can't soak. I also didn't like that I could not adjust the temperature. However you can have the top plate at a height suitable for what your doing. We will use this 3 or 4 times a week, for lunches and snacks, but we probably won't cook meat on it due to the hard cleaning up afterwards.

Great addition to the kitchen! – So I didn't really read the instructions and set up the machine after a wipe down and didn't realise it had a drip tray until I needed it. So advice to all, there is a drip tray! I have another branded sandwich maker that has 2 flat surfaces and no tray. This is more than just a sandwich maker. In saying that I must admit I have made many ham… Read more

and cheese toastie's which were perfect and did not stick. I have found that other brands (ones with the grooves inside) after about a month of use with a large family of 5 it just sticks to the metal no matter how much butter you put on which is so frustrating and I end up throwing it away.

I have made hamburgers which were yummy and also did not stick. Beef stayed moist. I usually make them on the bbq and do have a problem with them sticking to the grill.

I made lamb souvlaki's which tasted delicious. I usually make them on the bbq but found them so much nicer on the maker.

I did try cooking bacon on the maker and I did find it so much cleaner then frying them in a frypan as it makes such a mess however I did find them a little dry. Perhaps I over cooked them or perhaps I prefer bacon cooking in it's on fat. I have also try cooking bacon on the bbq which I also find drys them out.

Cleaning the machine isn't hard but it does take a lot of wipe downs if there is a lot of fat in your meal. I keep comparing the maker to my bbq because I use my bbq a few times a week and when asked to review this I used the maker instead. I do find the bbq faster to clean then this machine but not to the point where it would stop me using the maker and enjoying it.

It's great that the machine has a lever to adjust the height so it doesn't squash you food. It also heats up extremely quickly. I love the rippled grill to as I think it makes the food look better.

Overall I would say it's a great kitchen appliance. The 6 slice is quite big but I have cupboard space so it's not an issue. Oh and it cooks quite fast so that is another bonus.

Love it! – I was asked to review this sandwhich press and having owned a tinier version i jumped at the chance. Things I liked: - It doesn't smoosh your food beacuse the lid pivots as it closes and opens, rather than just being adjustable like the smaller ones are and you then having to help it along by positioning the sandwich etc towards the back to… Read more

avoid all the fillings and cheeses melting out the front. Not an issue at all with this version. It cooks perfecly flat on the top plate. - The lid is easy to open, not too heavy for only toast either (ie it doesn't make your bread paper thin). The adjustable handle part allows you to set the lid to ANY height! This is AMAZING! And makes the whole thing so versatile. -The lid being open does NOT cause the whole machine to tip backwards like on their smaller versions (i've previously reviewed) It feels sturdier on the bench as a whole. - The locking handle part actually stays where you lock it to, there's no lowering or give, it just stays at the height you set it to which is fantastic for things like pancakes so you get an even cook on both sides. - Truly non stick even on the rippled top plate. Even cheese once its shoved up there doesn't stick. -HUUUUGE cooking space! You can fit SO MUCH in this thing. -Its not too heavy and stores easily, even when standing. - It heats up pretty quickly and is dead silent

Things that could be better-

1) That I wish the cord were slightly longer. I like to cook under the range hood on my stove and it barely makes it to the nearest power point, and to use an extention cord would be overkill as its only short by about 20cm or so. But even then, this small negative on the machine is hardly worth mentioning. The cord isn't short by any means, its just that my power points are really far away in my kitchen lol. 2) I wish, like the other much older versions, there were an audible click or something to tell me the light is green and I can put the food in. Its a tiny criticism, but its handy to know when it's ready to go without having to keep watching it, so i can go to the other bench and prepare the foods for cooking. 3) I wish it came in the variety without the rippled edges. I find them a little too harsh on sandwhiches and its tedious to clean all those little grooves when we cook things like chicken kebabs etc. If it were flat, the cooking ability would be the same but it'd be WAY easier to clean.

Since going to this model of sunbeam toasted sandwhich maker, I can 100% say I'll never go back to another brand. Our last one like I said in the beginning of the review lasted us 10 yrs of frequent use and I expect this one will also do well. Highly reccommend this brand.

6 full size toasts, steaks etc. I like the grill lines it gives steaks and bread. I found with 6 toasties, it took longer for the cheese slices to melt, that said, it’s a very minute downfall for this product.

It it’s overwhelming in size in comparison to my old 2-slice unit but again, convenience during cooking overpowers this issue and we have reletively large storage space in the kitchen.

Super simple to clean, I just use a wet paper towel square and that’s enough to wipe the non-stick plate clean.

Overall Pros: * Cooks more food at once * Cooks multiple food options - not limited to toasties but cooks steak too * Height adjustable plates * Easy to clean

Overall Cons: * Larger unit to store * Takes a little longer to cook when cooking a large number of food items (in comparison to smaller units)

Very useful large size grill! – This is really a very useful large size grill, you can put 6 slices of bread at the same time, it is really convenient for those families with many family members. Another thing that must be mentioned is the height adjustment function, which is really useful for me when you cook defferent foods it will prevent the foods to be squished. Very easy to clean very worth buying it! Show details

The fastest and easiest sandwich press I've ever used – I've been using this product for 2 weeks now and cant believe how much easier it makes my life! It heats up and toasts sandwiches in about 2 minutes and it can fit 6 in at a time! one of the best features is you can set the height to be locked anywhere so it's perfect for any size sandwich or snack. very easy to clean and also can be stored standing up which is a great space saver!

Wow... Grill, Press And Easy Clean – YES, To me, it's more than just a sandwich maker and the WOW factor is that product is really easy to clean because the non-stick coating and the curved corners of the cooking plates make wiping up oil and actually crumbs effortless. Show details
