Great for emergencies – Brought this one quite a while ago- can't remember the store. Brought it because it was cheap at the time and our old faithful iron had broken down and stopped working and I had to iron my husband's work shirts. It is reliable for a quick job but doesn't last very long(less than a year) and would need to be replaced pretty quickly. In the end it… Read more
did leak and didn't work, we replaced it and found it kind of works on and off. Glad its discontinued because its not worth the money.
Australian Consumer Law and common leaking problem – My iron also leaks so this seems to be a common problem. Most importantly under Australian Consumer Law if a product fails in a period of time that would reasonably be considered unreasonable for that product then you may well have a claim. It would be reasonable to expect a steam iron to last many years so if yours has failed soon after the… Read more
warranty has expired don't let the manufacturer tell you there is nothing they can do. See the website of the ACCC and this clause in particular "Your rights under the consumer guarantees do not have a specific expiry date and can apply even after any warranties you’ve got from a business have expired."
Also you DO NOT have to return the product in the original packaging and if you have to return a product CLAIM YOUR EXPENSES FOR DOING SO.
I have successfully had product replaced years out of warranty and also got my expenses back for returning the product.
Good while it works, Poor lifespan – Purchased Sep 2015. Didn't keep receipts as grew up with Sunbeam a household name and have come to expect them to be a fair/average quality item. Expected iron to last 2-3 years - It lasted 4 months! Iron performed as expected for a few months. Then one day it started to dribble while ironing, where it once did not. A few weeks later it failed,… Read more
Trips out power (Safety Switch) after about 5 seconds. For the price and lifespan we got totally unhappy and not likely to ever bother with Sunbeam products again. Manufacturers need to lift their game, Yes we live in a throw-away society but it would be nice to expect to not be throwing it away so soon after opening! Seems to be a common problem with water leaks causing an electrical fault. Buyer beware!
Sunbeam Pro Steam Iron that shorts out the electricity – I have a Sunbeam Pro Steam iron that I purchased from Bing Lee in December 2012 and it was working really well until recently but now my iron is shorting out and tripping out the electricity most times I use it which is on a weekly basis and I have to go out and flick the switch in the meter box to get it going again. My last Sunbeam iron lasted for many years with no problems at all but I can't say with this iron.
Good steam iron - nearly – I have had 2 of these. the first leaked. I took it back and it was exchanged. The second one was about 1 year old and it was hard to iron with because water goes everywhere. Not as bad if you only put a little bit of water in at a time. It was a good iron to iron with - nice weight and feel, but the seal of the tank was poor and after about a… Read more
year fails. Net result has been that an Australian brand I respected is no longer my preferred provider. Originally posted Oct 2012. Replaced Feb 2013 with opposition Iron. No further issues. Good ironing, good to handle Leaks - potential safety issue
Shorts out power – I bought my Sunbeam Pro Steam iron in Feb 2013, I must say that Ironing is not something I do regularly and I don't have much at all each week. I am very disappointed to find that this iron shorts out my power each time I use it and I have to go and reboot the power. It worries me that it is dangerous. I have had Sunbeam Irons before and… Read more
always found them to be long lasting and good quality. But this one is a problem. I know it was not an expensive iron but I thought it would serve my purpose. I am not sure how long an iron is supposed to last but I am sure it is longer than this. It is light and irons well It shorts the power every time I use it.
Hi Patricia, we sincerely apologise for this, could you… Read more (+3 replies)
Leaks and shorts out the power – Other than a Kmart brand iron (which didn't get hot enough) - this is the worse iron I have ever used! After this one, I will never buy another Sunbeam iron again - ever! If you put water in it, it leaks, anywhere from a small bit of leaking onto the clothes, to pouring out. If I want to use it with water in it, I have to position a bucket… Read more
over the iron rest of my ironing board to catch the water - it's that bad!
But then I can't use it with water in it most of the time, because often if I have water in the iron, when I plug it in, it will trip the safety switch for the house and cut off all the electricity.
So if I want to iron with steam, I have to spray the fabric with water and do it that way. but it also means that I can't clean the iron, because I can't turn the iron on with water in it, after cleaning it, to clean out the holes properly. So I'm going to have to buy a new iron now, because I can't clean this one. It won't be a sunbeam one though! Looked good and was a good price. Leaks and shorts out the power. Can't clean it because of this.

Good – you get what you pay for i believe. and this purchase for me was a money thing, really and nothing else. The machine was the cheapest one around within reason - the cheapest that didn't look like rubbish! The machine works well, and irons pretty much anything, though heavier fabrics do require several more passes then you'd think they would! … Read more
best to use teh water spray function and speed things up.
All considered though, for the 2-3 times the amount machine, it wouldn't be worth the money. you'd need to be very time poor! It irons for a low price!
has spray and on demand steam
steam settings are variable, and full is very full indeed not enough grunt for pure cotton business shirts, takes some passes to make it happen!
Good – This iron does a wonderful job, is light weight and that makes it easier to move around on the clothes. It has different settings that you need when required for the differnet types of clothes & can be stored away easily. Most irons can be cumbersome but not this iron, it is easy to fill with water and it has a fine mist spray, good steam and is… Read more · 3
a well balanced iron when not in use. The cord is quite long which is an extra bonus. I actually don't mind ironing when you have a decent iron to use. A good performance from an iron & that is something that all women appreciate. But it leaks. I believe all irons leak.
