Had for over 15 years and still going...need new wheels...where do we get them from? – Amazing. Starts everytime. No issue on long or short grass. Just needed new blades and wheels. Where do we get wheels from?
I love my Talon – Easy to start and heavy enough for the long stuff, I can’t mow all the time but when I can it’s reliable. I was told they weren’t being made anymore I hope this isn’t true.
Robust and value for Money – 5 years and without a service apart from topping this machine with oil..Its still going but only just, the blades need to be replaced and it's slipping as the nut that holds the wing blade needs constant tightening...Its my fault for not servicing..nevertheless, was great value for money at just $249!..bargain! Super reliable and easy to start – Have owned this for 11 years and has had a large amount of use only needs blade replacing now. Always started easily and very economical on petrol. Was dubious when I bought it as it was very cheap compared to other mowers I have owned - but can't really fault it and would absolutely buy again. Show details
mower – Cant kill it ive had this mower for 9yrs it goes over sticks and stones as I have nearly a half acre and you cant get every single one with a rake. and part of property is on a hill. have killed 2 wheels and numerous blades. my mower guy was horrified when I took it to him for its first service after 8yrs of hard use. he tried to sell me a new one. No I said my old eagle is a ripper still starts first pull hot or cold. Never lets me down.
8 years without any problem – I have bought my Talon Silver Eagle Superfire 145 in 2007 and generally used it once a couple of weeks in summer and about once a month in winter time. Never had any problem so far! I even have done any services or changing oil for last 8 years. Surprised a bit the tough machine, so tough.
Gr8 mower – Best mower i ever had..till i hit a hidden metal stake in the ground....& it Never ever started again...completely seized...
Talon Eagle Cut - Bad Product – Originally purchased from Bunnings and I can now see why they don't carry this brand anymore. Originally, this was a great mower and I was very pleased with the 4-stroke (only ever had 2-stroke before) and its quiet motor. It had only had light work (small yard) and the unit was fuel efficient with a good cut. After one year, the clips that… Read more
allowed the handle to fold broke (my local mower place got these replaced for free). A year later it became harder to start and this lasted for a couple of years until iwouldn't start at all. The repairer replaced the throttle assembly & cable and it worked fine. Then a year later it again failed (zip cord runs free). Repairer says that the entire pully/start system has sheared bolts (probably due to years of constantly trying to start it) and the cost to repair is approx the same as a new mower (i.e. a throwaway job). It was a cheap, Chinese import that attempted to emulate the reliable Briggs & Stratton motor, but never came close (although in my case, the problems were not the motor itself). Annoyingly, it was only a tiny bit cheaper than the Victa range.
Major repair work shouldn't happen within these short years when the mower was purchased new and never had a lot of work. Hence, I would never bother with this brand again. I am about to buy either a Victa or Massport. Okay when new. Usually started first pull of the starter cord. Didn't last long before parts failed
Terrible – i wouldn't but this machine again even if its cheap, my wife bought me a victa pace and this machine its profesional it cuts even if you lawn is very long ,this machine its the rolls roys of the movers i think it got 10 power hoses ,the talon silver eagle cut and catch got not even one powerhose, this machine is for small lawn, my eagle is getting… Read more
rusty right now and soon i ll trow it away wide cutting ,i like only because i allways have the first starts after using it about 2 years for my house the blades are starting to come off by then self so i have to be with my spanner everytime is you have long lawn it takes you ages to cut it ,no so powerfull machine,i live in hornsby and we have a massive lawn
Terrible – Let's not forget it also burst into flames about a month ago. It seems that grass gets blown into and sticks at the front of the engine while you mow... this dries out very quickly and then will eventually burst into flames as the fan-forced air, combined with the white hot cylinder head do their work. Amazingly, after pulling it apart and… Read more
checking everything, it worked again.... until the throttle cable broke (after the throttle mechanism siezed - nothing to do with the fire)...
I guess you could say I'm being a bit kind... I mean, a mower that a) bursts into flames, b) breaks, and c) forces you to deal with the special staff at Bunnings could essentially be branded as a total hunk of crap... well I guess it is. I can't really see this lasting more than another year before something catastrohic happens... but hey, it probably should be quite entertaining when it does eventually explode. Just hope it doesn't hurt me when it does. Would usually start first time (back in its heyday). I've only really used it about 15 times and it performs worse than my dad's 40 year old Rover mower.
Well it's broken now, which means I've just had to endure dealing with people at Bunnings (who sell it exclusively) in an effort to obtain a new throttle cable (that broke just over the 2 year mark i.e. warranty) ... Dealing with Bunnings means you're directed to the wrong place 3 times, cut off accidentally, put on hold forever... now I'm still waiting on a call back... not the mowers fault I guess but I guess it's part of the deal. When it was working, it blew a bit of smoke. I changed the oil to something better (than what comes with it)... still blew smoke...
It's a bit gutless too - probably has something to do with it blowing smoke (which means oil getting around the piston or down the valve stems, which suggests it's not operating as well as it could power-wise).
Terrible – Nothing is cheap. If it is junk, then any cost is too dear! This mower is junk junk junk junk cuts lawn broke casting that hold dome nuts/bolts, trying to get yellow plastic top off, to clean. They would not unscrew. Throtle cable sticks. The whole pull cord mechanism is stuffed, little plastic bits worn out.
Terrible – No, i would not buy the same again, had a good run with Talon chainsaw so purchased this, but this is not as good. BriggsStratton next time for me. It was cheap and starts ok No/low power, problems with cable, rusting, wheel alignment issues
Find out how Talon Silver Eagle Cut & Catch compares to other Petrol Lawn Mowers
Know better, choose better.
Good – The Talon Silver Eagle is the best mower I have owned in fifty years. Handles high grass and height adjustment is easy to use. I would recommend this mower to anyone looking for a reasonably priced mower. I have had this mower for three years without any problems. Excellent. Starts every time. Solid construction. Well priced. A little bit heavy to push.
Terrible – Although it is cheep, I'm frankly not expecting it to last too long, primarily due to breakdown of cheep plastic parts. Cheep. Starts reasonably easily. Struggles with long grass. Suffers from use of cheep plastic. Catcher slips off too easily. The soft plastic seems to be wearing quickly. Throttle level body has broken, partly due to an… Read more
overly stiff cable. I'm looking for a replacement.
Part of the filter assembly plastic has broken. I don't think it has has unusually harsh treatment.
Terrible – a bit disappointed in the talon company as a whole bought a wipper snipper and not the cheapest and that too has gone to the graveyard after being supplied with a replacement one once because the first one broke in half cheap mower and is easy to start stalls when cutting thick or wet grass, cant find any spares for it, the throttle keeps jamming… Read more
and wont return enough to stop the engine, now the throttle cable has finally snapped and cant seem to find any spare parts
Excellent – Once I added the two blades $8.00 and the added a mulching plug $45.00 who needs to spend $1000 on a expensive mower when this mower powers through my lawn with ease with a great clean cut mower shops bag this mower I have owned it for two years and it has never let me down. Easy to start easy to clean lightweight easy to moove starts every time… Read more
without fail this mower has options that that dont tell you like adding extra blades and mulching plug. With two blades didnt fill the catcher
Terrible – would get rid of it for half of what i paid.more trouble than it is worth. always too hot, plugs fail constantly.has been the bane of my being during the wet when we have to mow every week or so. have to pay someone to mow lawn because the talon is so unreliable. wish i had got a rover or some other reliable and usually cheaper mower.recomend you… Read more
dont buy, they are yellow cause they are lemons. looks good ,wide cutting area when you can get the thing to mow for ten mins. have had trouble with it since i first bought it. constantly cutting out.need a new spark plug every time i use sometimes up to three plugs to get lawn done. tried different plugs to no avail. hate it.
Excellent – really cannot understand how these could fall to pieces as ours gets a real workout,we collect tons of clippings, will definately buy talon again. we live on 60ac and mow about 4ac,huge yard,it hasnt missed a beat or cost anything to run bar services and fuel. could use a bigger mower but fine for normal yard
Excellent – very nice lawnmower, good for large areas of grass that need to be cut and it will never break down on you, at least mine hasn't broken down on me. i love how easy it is to start, even when the engine is cold, it usually takes no more than three pulls to start, and i love the fact that it has never broken down on me, mostly because i service it… Read more
every six to seven months. the lawnmower is a bit heavy, so if i want to put it in my trailer to cut other peoples grass i need to use more force to lift it but that doesn't bother me at all.
