Warning: Sophisticated Scam Operation Targeting Utility Bill Payments – Warning: Sophisticated Scam Operation Targeting Utility Bill Payments I would like to warn others about an elaborate scam that I encountered, which involves fraudulent utility bill payments and stolen credit card details. The operation begins with what appears to be a legitimate offer: you’re told your utility bills (electricity, gas, telco,… Read more
etc.) can be paid with a 30% discount. The scammers claim they work with utility providers and receive commissions in the form of “gift cards” from these companies—something that is highly unusual and false. In reality, most utility companies do not offer gift cards, and they certainly don’t pay third parties in this manner.
Once you provide your bill, they use the Australia Post BPAY system to pay it using stolen overseas credit card details. Because the Australia Post website allows public access to BPAY, anyone can technically make a payment to your bill, even using unauthorized cards.
You will not be given a proper payment receipt—only confirmation that the bill appears as paid on your provider’s system. This gives a false sense of legitimacy. They will then ask you to transfer the remaining 70% of the bill to a bank account under a different name, often opened with fake identification. Every transaction involves a different bank account, raising further suspicion.
Here’s where the scam truly unfolds: after 4–6 weeks, the legitimate cardholder disputes the unauthorized charge, and the credit card company reverses the transaction. This leaves you with an unpaid bill and a potential mark against your name. Since the payment was made using a stolen card, you become inadvertently involved in a fraudulent act.
By then, the scammers will have disconnected their numbers, and any attempt to reach them will fail. Because you willingly transferred money into a private bank account, recovering funds is extremely difficult—and reporting the incident could expose you to legal risk as an accessory to credit card fraud.
⚠️ Key takeaways:
Never trust individuals or services claiming to pay your bills at a discount.
Utility providers do not offer gift card commissions to third parties.
Always pay bills through your provider directly.
If something feels off, it probably is—trust your instincts.
Please stay vigilant. These scams often originate from overseas operations posing as local services. If you have already been targeted, seek legal advice immediately before taking any further action.
Very good and professional way to deal with all utilities – California based company and giving good discount on all utilities bills whole year payment in advance they can pay
A scam company – They contacted me using what’s app. I was suspicious when I was asked to provide a medical Medicare number and a driving license copy. I knew that that can be used for hundred point ID verification. So I only gave them an expired copy of my passport. When I said that I was happy to visit them in person and give them the necessary documentation… Read more
there was a lot of hesitation and I got suspicious. So I went to the actual address printed on the invoices and then I saw that it was a fake. There was a different business operating at the address and the discount club was using the other location fraudulently. I would advise anyone not to get too greedy and give into temptation. Please just pay your bills and do not use the discount club or bulk bargains. Better safe then Sorrry.
The Victoria police is investigating the affairs of this company. A person over there told me that a number of people have been scammed and a large number of people have lost money after paying them.
They pay small amounts of money
But then they will run away when you make a large payment. You will never see or hear them again. I have lost about $6000 in amount paid towards bills Thank you

in Whatsapp. They will say to pay first and confirm with utility company and then only pay to thier supplier accounts. This supplier accounts are nothing but they open personal accounts using people's license in different banks. This guys use gift card which works as credit card and always under name "Discount Club" and they pay under $1000 and ask you to pay in advance insurance, bills, rego etc. Once you start paying with them they will keep calling you and ask you to pay more bills and payments and also tell you that they have monthly target so if you can pay them extra or pay more bills. Sometime they will say they give 40-50% discount on mortgage payment and that too directly into your account. They say they are based in Hawthorn, Melbourne and sometime say they are in Collins st, Melbourne CBD and also some times from QLD. This guys use different names and keep asking you to pay money once you pay $2000-$3000 they will start reversing bills and your utility companies will send you emails that some one has lodge charge back on the payment so please contact your bank. You endup paying those bills all over again. I event paid some bills 2-3 times using those Discount Club vouchers and they all got reversed.
This guys also use Bulk Bargain name for shopping digital goods. They say there is big sale on Apple Products such as iPad, Macbook and iPhone and watch and giving discount of 50%. Once you pay them, they send you email from Bulk Bargain and random tracking number which you cant track anywhere and they say you will recieve items with in 24-48hr from delivery agent. We waited 2 days but no one came and they say order price has increased so pay extra $500. We paid that too but they didnt deliver any order. They also claim that they have 2 warehouses 1 in Melbourne and 1 in QLD.
