Thermal Ark ARK270
increadible heat pump
We have now had this unit for 3 months and it has been awsome. It is the smaller ARK 200 unit. Compared to our old hot water unit this is so cheap to run. We have 3 people in our household and it heats up between 11.00 am and 5.00pm every day to use our solar energy. The heat pump runs for an average od 1.7 hours a day and looking at my energy usage meter in my house it is using about 650 watts per hour. It seem as if it heats up to full only using 1.2 to 1.5 Kw per day. my old 3 YO storage unit before this was using about 10 KW a day. Even...Read more
on a cloudy day it never needs to get energy from the grid. 4.5 Kw solar system. When we had 8 people in the house over Xmas I turned on the 2nd timer so it haeated up to HOT with off peak power between midnight and 5am in the morning as well. Very Quiet and is hot enough heating to the default of 55 degrees. You can heat it to 60 degrees if needed. So far we have never run out of hot water. I would imagine it will take a bit longer to heat back to Full in the middle of winter whe the daytime temps are around 15 degrees. Paul was great to deal with and would highly recomend these units. Great value for money with the rebates.Purchased in October 2020 at Thermal ark company.

the reason why to purchase a Thermal Ark heat pump
I purchased an ARK270 2 weeks ago because my other heat pump died a very miserable death it was the 2nd one in twelve years .I wont say the brand but it was one of those that you see three large units in motels dairy, farms,& anywhere one unit would be enough .I now know why they put 3 units in because each one does not last very long I am very happy with every thing to do with the thermal ark. It is very quiet , fast heating & a very good looking unit .The only thing that i would have liked, would have been a second hot water outlet on the o...Read more
ther side as mine also feeds a granny flat attached to the house .But, apart from that i have no problems with the unit and Paul was very helpful & helped me through the process of getting the solar rebates as i am in my 70s & am not all that computer literate .I know my eldest daughter will be proud of me seeing i did all this review by my-self without her help So when you need to change your heat pump. I would only recommend a Thermal ark . Thanks NormPurchased in March 2020 for $900.00.

Cheaper Hot Water
We had to replace our hot water service the week before Christmas, our son recommended Thermal Arc so we contacted the company on Tuesday morning and the unit was delivered by a very polite, helpful young man by midday. Paul could not help us with installation as it was such a busy time but we were able to sort out our own plumber and electrician. We are quite pleased with the new system, with many guests over the Christmas/New Year period with many showers and dishes washed with reliable hot water. Paul has been prompt and helpful with the requirements needed to access the rebates. We would recommend Thermal Arc as the way to go when updating your hot water service.
Purchased in December 2019.

ARK270 heat pump hot water service
My ARK270 has been in for a couple of weeks now and my daily power consumption since installation has dropped $2 a day . Over the year that works out to about $672 savings compared to the electric hot water service that we removed . The best thing is no more complaining from the wife about running out of hot water . Great customer service from Paul in regards to the paper work for the government rebates . Would highly recommend this heat bank hot water service . Cheers .
Purchased in May 2019 for $975.00.

Best customer service I can remember.
We have an AirBNB house for 8 guests in Melbourne and the 315litre Electric HWS developed a serious leak. I ordered a ARK270 from Paul on Wednesday and needed to install it by Friday evening. Paul delivered it Friday morning, helped me get it in position and it was installed and hot by 5pm. Unfortunately it failed about 8 weeks later while we had guests. After 1 phone call early in the morning Paul said he would replace it with a new unit and it was installed and hot by mid afternoon. The ARK270 costs very little to run as it is only 900w and h...Read more
eats any time compared to the off peak electric HWS which is 3600w and only worked between 11pm and 7am. The house never runs out of hot water now and I could not recommend Paul and his ARK270 more highly. I will be installing one in our home very soon.Purchased in March 2019 at Thermalark.

Cost effective, efficient heat pump
With current Vic Govt incentives it was a no brainer to switch my old electric hot water tank out and replace it with a Thermalark 270. Almost like for like replacement for electrician and plumber. All done in 2 hours. Heats water to 55C quickly (only 2 people using it), set timer to use our PV output. Only uses 800w when not using element (eco heat mode). Will be interesting to see how it goes in winter. I would recommend it and the company to anyone looking at heat pump solution. Small problem with dud screen, but could still operate and company sent a replacement quickly and was simple 5 minute job to install replacement screen and cover.

ARK270 Heat Pump Hot Water System
I have had an ARK270 hot water unit on my home for the past several years and it operates fine. Interestingly when I swapped over I noticed a large drop in my gas bill and no real increase in electricity bill. I put this down to the fact I replaced my old 3 star gas hot water system with the ARK270.

Thanks for the review Peter, for an average household the Ark270 should save you around $360 per annum (assuming you don't have Solar PV cells) when compared to a 3 Star Gas system.

Excellent hot water.
Hot water service has been fitted and is working great. We had a small problem with the screen but were able to resolve with thermal Ark over the phone. They were contactable and helpful. Now our hot water is heated any time & is never running out with a family of seven.

Solar Hot water Heat pump
This Hot water system connects to my solar panels. It uses a heat pump to heat the water which only uses 800 kw, that's less than my dishwasher. My gas bill had decreased from $120.00 to 54.00 for the same period last year. Always got hot water this has saved me a lot of money.

Questions & Answers
Andy L.asked
any one using the Thermal Ark heat pump in frost situations. when does it need the heating element.
1 answer
paul w.Thermal Ark
If the Heatpump is run in Eco mode, it will aim to used the heat pump for all heating, except for the following reasons.
a) If the ambient temperature is less than -5 Deg the electric element will be used.
b) If the ambient temperature is between -5 and 5 DegC the electrical element will kick in as well as the compressor, when the water temperature reaches 55 Deg and will run up to the hot water setpoint. This is due to the physical properties of R134a, and will be common problem for most systems using this refrigerant.
Note:
a) the default set point for the hot water system is 55 Deg.
b) We have ~30 units installed by a plumber in Bright, and have had no issues or complaints since these units typically operating with a 55Deg hot water set point.
c) The non Eco modes use the electric element for fast reheat, for customers who have high water demand.

I've been told heat pumps are not a great choice for Canberra Conditions. It can be as cold as -6 over night in winter and 44 in summer. Has anyone installed this system from Canberra?
1 answer
paul w.Thermal Ark
Hi - ThermalArk has a plumber who has installed around ~60 units in the Bright region without issue, I believe that Canberra is slightly milder. In the worst case below -5 deg the system will stop the compressor and use the electric element to heat the water. In a colder area they are not quite as efficient but heaps better than an Electric element hot water system. Paul

Is the ARK270 suitable for residences approximately 500 metres from salt water beaches in Victoria

Hi, I installed an ARK270 this year i am approx 700 m from the beach at Seaspray in Vic . So far i have had no issues what so-ever & am very happy with its looks & its ability to produce more hot water than i need Norm B
We are 100 meters from Rutherford inlet and it has presented no issues so far. In fact it is an advantage in that we don't get frosts, so the nights are no so cold.
I do not live that close, but only my concern would be the salt eating up insulation inside and rust on metal parts. I am very happy with the unit so far, my on ECO and it produces enough hot water for 3 of us...

Thanks Ros for a great review, we do attempt to support customers. In particular now that in Victoria there are now three rebates applicable.
