The only tyre I'd give up my Open Country A/T II's for – Found the 285/75R16 to be a very tough tyre. Very reliable and can take them into the most remotest regions and know they are going to get you out again even with very long distances and low 20psi levels. Very good traction in mud and wet blacktop. Took the full heat of the Birdsville Track in the middle of January on a very hot day with very limited impact to the tyre surface while running at 30psi. Very stable in corners with strong side wall support.

Purchased in for $385.

Toyo Open Country R/T – My last tyres were a set of BFG Ko’s and they were very good, great on the road and never let me down off road, but as they were more than half worn and with a remote off road trip coming up I decided to change my tyres for some peace of mind. I wanted good on road manners and not too noisy, good off road performance in sand mud and rock, and lastly I wanted a bigger more aggressive looking tyre. With all that in mind for me it came down to the BFG Ko2 and the Toyo RT, the difference being one was a very popular and proven all terrain and a relatively newly released in Australia hybrid tyre. The RT was promising to be quiet, have excellent off road ability and be super strong. The RT is a combination of a hard wearing AT compound and the puncture resistant strength of an MT. I chose the Toyo’s and I have to say I am very happy with my choice they are no louder than my previous tyres which was surprising, handle perfectly and still after doing the Holland track still look brand new! A track which has 270kms of muddy bog holes, hard and soft sand tracks, gravel and sharp rocks and endless tree roots and stumps all of which the Toyos coped with perfectly. They have now done 2500kms and honestly look brand new. They bag out nicely at lower pressures and look great. I’m pretty confident these tyres will do what I ask of them both on and off road and I’m hoping to get 80k out of them. So far 5stars from me.
