You can have the performance and economy as well – My 3rd Aurion, I need a reliable comfortable daily driver. The Aurion more than fitted the brief. I do mostly highway driving for my weekly comute to work.I traded my first Aurion on a brief ownership of a Mazda CX5 .It just couldn't match the overall quietness and refinement of the Aurion. No comparison to the Aurion in performance by the way. The… Read more
Aurion even bettered the average fuel economy of the CX5 by 0.1 of litre. The Mazda achieved 8.2 and the Aurion 8.1 .Not bad given that the Mazds is 4cylimder with skyactive technology(more gimmick than anything else). and the Aurion a V6.
Best car ever – I use my car personal use . Drives smooth and most of my time I rely on it. I service every 10km, never been any problem, just changed tyres, no worries. Show details
Excellent Vehicle – Bought my Aurion ( grill with the horizontal chrome bars ) brand new in mid 2015 $30,990 ( interest free ). Got tint & floor mats thrown in. The same car the following year, with an updated grill, proximity sensors & one or two additional aesthetics was interest free for $29,990.00. Heaps of grunt. Can blow some V8's away. Last of the old school… Read more
2GRFE V6 engines. 8 Litres/ hundred on 98 octane on a 5000km road trip - two adults, boot & back seat full to the brim with luggage. 10 odd litres/100km 50/50 highway/ city cycle. Car now has 130,000km & has never cost one single cent outside regular servicing, tyres & one battery. Huge boot, huge back seat area, big comfortable car with huge overtaking power between 80-120. Boring to drive, but you feel good knowing it's reliable & economical & fast! Only problem is, if you drive an Aurion, you'll never get another root in your life. Ever!
Great car to own – I bought the car new and have had it for 7 years. Its performed perfectly as expected. Its powerful, comfortable and it has been cheap to run. The 90k service was a big one just after the capped price services finished and was $1500. But it has been great to drive and own.
Great value vehicle – I was tossing up between the Aurion, Holden SV6 and Subaru Liberty, three have there good and bad however the Aurion represents the best value. The V6 has good power and requires care when taking off from a stop due to the front wheel drive, great overtaking power. Road noise is minimal. Voice activation works very well with Toyota link and… Read more
calling is very easy if the contact is within your phonebook. Emails and texts are easy to read / listen to as well. A big issue with Toyota link is when driving you are not able to enter a phone number or search through your contacts using the dial pad, the options are greyed out and you must be stopped. Toyota link is also very hit and miss when trying to use the fuel finder or weather application.
The interior is fine and drivers seat is easy to adjust, centre console bin is huge and the glovebox has plenty of room. The rear seats fold down however as the head rests are fixed, they do not allow to seat to fold flat restricting load area. Plenty of room in the boot big enough to hold a Waeco fridge, however there is no 12v outlet. I only use Caltex 95 fuel and see 7.7l / 100km on the highway and 10l / 100km with a mixture of city and some 80km/h zones. All items under the bonnet are easy to get to such as oil dipstick, battery, wiper fluid etc.
The only negatives are I wish the Aurion was rear wheel / all wheel drive as it would make it a much better drive and the infotainment system requires work. I ended up choosing the Aurion over other makes mostly due to cost, it was cheaper to buy, service and insure over the Holden / Subaru.
A good family car – Bought this lovely horse with 64 k on clock two months ago and now done near 4,000 kms. Bought this car as my heart was nearly broken by my previous 2006 E90 BMW 320i haha. This Aurion's been very reliable so far. I've also bought a three year mechanical warranty which cost me NZD 1,000 for this car. So 100% peace of mind driving this car. … Read more
Pros:
1. The V6 engine runs great. It does its things. No much rattles when idling due to the V6 engine. The V6 engine is powerful. When you are driving this car, you are not pushing the throttle paddle, you are just put your right foot on the throttle paddle. When you wanna pass one vehicle, ok just pass it.
2. The transmission shifts smoothly.
3. Easy access to the air filter and the cabin air filter. You can do it yourself with no screwdrivers.
4. Front drive set makes you feel more confident to drive it when raining. It also gives you flatter back floor.
5. Bluetooth phone and music connect.
6. Cruising control.
and many more others have mentioned...
Cons:
1. The brake system works not very smoothly although I've had the brake fluid flushed and the pads and the motors look fine. I cannot exactly predict how much I would get when pushing the braking paddle. Probably I should have the system fully examined when next service.
2. Weak handling. It's acceptable actually. Probably its just because I've had been driving a BMW 3 series for years.
3. It doesn't make me feel very well when driving on the countryside roads. The car is not very stable as a standard large sedan. It will remind you that this is a renamed Camry.
4. The paint very easily gets scratched. Be careful when washing this car. Must when the paint is cool.
5. It's not easy to get access to the inner fuse box. I guess its because Camry was developed a global car so it was originally designed as a left hand drive car. Although you may don't have to do this for the whole lifespan of the vehicle or you will simply send the car to a mechanic if you need it.
6. No factory tire pressure monitoring system.
7. Halogen bulbs for atx models. but if you drive this car most in urban area it doesn't matter much actually. but if you are gonna drive it on the open roads with no road lights, oh man...
8. No button on the trunk to open the trunk. You will have to either use the key or come back to your driver seat to open the trunk.
Listing so many cons just because i wanna help potential buyers or someone to know about this car more. Generally i'm very happy with this car. Would 100% recommend. You can't find another car with this size of engine and this high level of the reputation for its reliabilities at its price range.
Classic Big Aussie 6 – Smooth reliable powerful rugged v6 . Its been around a while which means this would be Toyotas most tested and refined engine ever. The six speed auto will be hailed as one of Toyotas best along with the legendary Celica manual gearboxes. Noise ,vibration and harshness have been well eliminated by Toyota Australia. These Australian made Aurions… Read more
are well put together and you can tell the plant workers took pride in their manufacture and its sad that all that talent is gone to waste now production has stopped. If you want a new one you better hurry because the new v6 Japanese Camry will be more expensive.
Perfect family car! – We upgraded from the Toyota Corolla to the Aurion when our son was born, it is the perfect family car. Plenty of room for the pram plus shopping in the boot. The car drives beautifully, is very comfortable, has plenty of power and is super quiet. The rear view camera is excellent. Toyota capped priced servicing makes it very efficient to maintain. Awesome Car – Come from a spec'd up SUV, it drives heaps better, is quieter, more refined, heaps of power, noticeably cheaper to service/replace tires and better on petrol. It's has been super reliable with no problems. Sure it's a pretty standard looking car but who cares. Love it and would recommend it to others. Show details
A Luxurious drive with immense power – Love the adrenaline rush that i get when i push the paddle of this V6 engine with immense push and great refinement Smart transmission, key less entry, push start - all great features. Massive boot, can store the baby pram and my golf bag easily. Loads of interior space, leg space, good thigh support on the seats and a tall boy design ensures… Read more
good leg room.
Only drawback is its fuel consumption in city drive. It consumes more than its counter parts, provided the 3.6ltr V6 engine.
You Can't Go Past The Toyota Aurion ATX for A Reliable, Good Value, Family car – A very underrated car. I purchased a new Toyota Aurion ATX in November 2015 for the discounted price of $29990 drive away, what a bargain. After many years of unreliable Fords and Holdens, I didn't want any more surprises and costly repairs when it came time for regular services. I test drove a Mazda 6 as they had better reviews than the Aurion,… Read more
it drove/felt like a little 4 cylinder, very over rated and over priced (my opinion). The Aurion has fantastic get up and go when you need it (0-100 in 6.1 secs wheels magazine) with a silky smooth 3.5 litre 6 cylinder engine. For the bottom of the range Aurion the ATX comes with many features. Front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, finger touch door locking, push button start, dual climate control, Bluetooth and great lumbar support (I have a bad back). The Aurion is slightly larger than a Camry but you certainly get a lot more car for the same money. The boot is huge and the back seats fold down so you can carry rather long items inside the car. Fuel consumption is also impressive for a 6 cylinder car, I achieve 9-10 litres per 100 klms in suburbia and 7-8 litres per 100 klms on a freeway drive. The Aurion ATX has most of the features of the Presara which was $55000 drive away at the time of my purchase. Same car, same engine but with a few more features. I wanted a better sound system so for less than a thousand dollars had premium speakers fitted at Monster car audio, wow that did the trick. So if you want value for money in a reliable family car, my advise is to purchase a Toyota Aurion (still being discounted) while they are still available.
Great Family Car – I previously had an SV6 VE...ye it sounded nice and was very good when healthy....then she got sick and cost me a fortune! so i decided to buy a sensible car and that turned out to be the V6 Aurion. It looks like a middle-aged family man car, but she actually goes alright! it's got all the features and more over the SV6 and it does what Toyota's do. It jsut goes. Really happy owner Show details
Very Happy – Very quiet. Some road noise on certain roads. More expensive to run than our last diesel car. Insurance was way cheaper than last car which was a SUV. Good handling and great performance as far as pick up is concerned. 200 kw of power is very impressive. like it lots. Show details

Know better, choose better.
Very powerful for a Sedan – I bought a 2012 ATX Toyota Aurion about 10 months ago with 88,000 km on it. I travelled from Sydney to Brisbane back and forth twice, used it every day for work and roaming around and I am so happy with his performance. a little bit of a guzzler when driving through a lot of traffic congestion but on the freeway it is very economical, Petrol is… Read more
15.1L/100km on a traffic but average of 5.6L/100km on a freeway. So if you are travelling on a freeway all the time then I recommend this car but if you are a city driver then think twice about the petrol consumption
This is a great family car – The driving experience is amazing has a lot of power if you put your foot down handles corners really smooth and sticks to the road like glue it is a quiet car can't really hear the engine. The Toyota Aurion has a great dash with easy to read gages and great backlight to see them of a night there is plenty of leg room and a huge boot to fit… Read more
prams and groceries in. The back seat is large enough to accommodate 2 car seats nicely. The Toyota Aurion is great on fuel I am averaging 8.9 litres of fuel every 100 km so find this very economic.
Really great car and I loved it – Got one used 2012 ATX 1.5 years ago, and it's a great car to have. Iit's a comfortable cruiser car, suitable for long drives. Compared to my old Magna, I feel this is a significant upgrade. The drives was more comfortable, cabin is quiet, and I feel fresh even after 8 hours continuous drive. Cornering however, doesn't feel as confident as my… Read more
friends Mazda. There's more rolling, and the seat doesn't hug as well as mazda's. The acceleration thou, best in its class, easily takeover most cars confidently with just light pressure to the pedal.
Internally, it's typical Japanese plastics, but with adequate sense of quality, but not much more. It's roomy internally w adequate booth space, but just good for moving people and luggage. Forget about moving bulky items eg moving Tv more than 50 inch. The 6 speaker factory sounds good enough for me, and Bluetooth connects reliably to my phone. However, there are no Sat Nav, and even if they do like higher spec model, it wasn't the most user friendly software. I hoped they opted for android play or CarPlay instead.
Finally, it came with the reliability expected from Toyota. Never skipped a beat so far. Only thing broken so far for a 5 years car is a stuck cd in CD player, which I never use. Fuel efficiency would be as good as a V6 gets. Even with mostly city driving it still consistently give me more than 500km per tank of 55L, and almost 700 km on highways.
Overall, Aurion would be a good choice if you want a little more vroom vroom and smoother transmission than a standard Camry, otherwise it IS a Camry.
New Aurion "whirring" noise from engine – Fantastic vehicle! Awesome to drive, bought from Brisbane dealer as new demo, 512 k's on clock. Very disconcerting "whirring" noise from engine at cold start noise runs for about 10 mins, goes away when warm. Sounds like an 220,000km car!!! I have now owned the car for one week & is going in for repairs tomorrow. WOW! Show details
Best Value 6 cylender – I have always had a number of 6 cylinder cars. Mostly Fords but with a mix of Coms and Magnas. Get the picture. Well just bought our 1st Toyota. A July '15 updated version Aurion, my goodness, goes like stink, and heres why I like it. As we speak Holden and Ford are advertising their cars for $39000 dive away. I just bought a Aurion for $30990… Read more
drive away that is discounted $9000. Now before all you boguns have a go, it comes with metalliic paint, electric drivers seat, front and rear sensors and reversing camera, keyless entry, auto start, oh yeh capped price serice $140. Another thing the rear seats lay flat so you have that extra cargo space, unlike the Comm "ski hole". Hasn't that cost them sales? Also the engine is linear and smooth, why not, they have had this package for years and have got it to perfection. This is an unbiased comment as my last car was a BF MK 2 Futura .
2008 Aurion Melted Dash - Toyota Fixed No Charge - Bought 2014 with 2,450 kms on the Clock No proble – Our 2008 Aurion was turning out to one of the best cars we've ever owned. Here in 2015 we've still only had to replace the front brake disc pads. Here's the long story part - Around August 2014 we noticed the dash had become quite sticky and was slowly getting worse. By March 2015 the melting had become a slick, glossy pile of goo. It was… Read more
becoming too dangerous to drive the car due to the reflection both from the sun and at night with oncoming headlights. So there it sat, worthless, in our driveway as we were seconded to the use of the ever reliable but extremely uncomfortable 1998 Ford Fairmont.
We took it to Downtown Toyota in Morningside (Beware of Alcoholic Car Salesmen here) where we bought it and they told us to take it to a dealer closer to home. In other words, they didn't want to know about it. So we did. The next Dealer, Ross Llewellyn tried the same trick. They at least took photos but failed to send them to TMCA Customer Service like they said they would. (They turned out to be very good in the end and fit the part for us)
At first,TMCA tried the ol' "It's out of warranty" so your out of luck thing. They also didn't want to know about it. This was clearly a manufacturing defect. So we did the research and found that the U.S. were having the same problems with 2006 - 2009 Camrys and Aurions. Over there, they issued a warranty embellishment program as it was called instead of an all out re-call because it wasn't happening to every car. I'd say that fixing 4.5 million cars is near enough to a re-call.
After all supporting information was provided along with a few chats with my very persistent wife and the TMCA Customer Service Manager, they threw in the towel and replaced the dash at no charge to us.
TMCA came through and did so within only four days and the car was fixed within another week after the decision was finalised. I thought this was an extremely rare and quick turn around for a close to three thousand dollar repair at their expense and also saved a very loyal customer.
We needed another car anyway because the Ford was getting too tired. So we went to Scifleet Toyota in Albion. We found a 2014 At-x with only 2,450 kms on the clock in showroom condition and traded the Ford in on it. They were really easy to work with and gave us a great price with the trade. The car is a real beauty and runs perfect. I l love the 3.5 litre V6 engine. The power, handling, and comfort make for one of the best cars I personally have ever driven. I know there are better. But for the money, Just my opinion, It's definitely very hard to beat.
Value for money excellent purchase – Purchased Nov 2014 build Aurion Atx with 2k on the odo, ex Toyota motor company car! Excellent value for money and fabulous whisper quiet ride with pure silky smooth power! No hesitation recommending the aurion, there's nothing else out there which ticks all the boxes like the Autrion. Show details
2013 Aurion – Have had this car for 18 months after trading in terrific Avalon, great car but suspension too hard. We live in east gipps. All the roads are garbage coarse bitumen, and the car rides as hard as hell. Gave a neighbour a ride into Bairnsdale 2 weeks ago, he owns a 12 year old Jeep, and he cannot believe the hard ride of my car. Suggestions have… Read more
been to replace tyres with more compliance, it's currently on Michelin. Apart from hard ride car is terrific, and I must say that when in Melbourne the car rides very smoothly which is probably where all the road tests are conducted. I would still recommend this vehicle very highly. Have now had this car for two and a half years and quite a few trips to melb. and back. ride is still too hard but car is fantastic. averages 7.1-7.2 on highway and is effortless cruiser. I cannot believe that car reviewers have trouble with a foot brake, i think they are terrific. This car is definitely a 5 out of 5.
July 5th 2018 Update: Excellent vehicle
Have now owned this vehicle for 5 years. Its a shame they don't make them still. I would happily buy a new one. Apart from too hard a ride on the garbage roads in east gippsland, i cannot fault this aurion. The performance and economy are fantastic . A really great car.
Quite good. Enjoyed the car - only 2 minor issues – Manufactured May 2012. Purchased 2013 as a demo with 2,400km. ATX base model. 2 minor issues, LF suspension, shocky lost a nut and was loose 32,000, fixed on warranty. After only say 40 hours on, disc jammed in the CD player. Replaced unit on warranty. Drives well, does have a point where the front shakes slightly around 30-35 kph but comes out… Read more
smoothly. Fair to good acceleration. If you hit the pedal the rev counter races to 6000 but does drop down into gear nicely. The first couple of times thought it was going to go past redline and I'd be paying for it, but no the gearbox took the load and now I have confidence to hit it if in a pickle.
Had a car not see me and swerve into me on the Story Bridge. Swung madly to the right to avoid - car responded beautifully. Car didn't skid, maintained direction and I breathed sigh of relief. I know it did something to maintain line and control - just glad it worked.
As others have said the Bluetooth is a tad temperamental but connects automatically 98% of the time. Has dropped out only twice. Been in some stinking hot weather and the temp has never gone over midpoint. I service at 10,000km not 15,000 just to keep any problems from occurring.
The fact it is almost the same engine they use for 2 of the Lexus models (and there they squeeze 6% more power from it) means it will take a lot to thrash the guts out of it.
We came from a 3.5Lt Magna and the Aurion has 25% more power. Aside from the transitional speed around 30kph it is smooth and pleasant to drive. Plenty of space in the boot, functional inside, speakers are good. USB port is is a reasonable spot and my phone sits nicely beside the gear shifter without flying around. Hence, if phone low can plug into the USB without a problem and still use phone screen for nav. The air con vents to the rear of the console are welcomed by the kids. Head light beam at night is excellent. Interior lights are also effective. The good size screen for reversing is great - superb actually. And I don't have a blind spot from behind with the nicely concaved side mirrors.
As someone who spent most of his life on bikes I'm quite happy to have this car. Never owned a Merc or something flash but as a base model without being an affectacious fool thinking the car I own determines who I am, I'm quite fond of it. If it stays engine wise trouble free at a 100,000km i'll be impressed enough to get another.
Worst thing just for me are the front pillars. All new cars have larger width front pillars to accommodate air bags. So it's not a fault it's just a common issue. Way around it with view to the left passenger side more obscured I just take longer time looking for oncoming. But care does need to be taken there.
Alone on the highway get 6.9lt/100km over 6 hours. With kids and luggage in the car same trip 7.4lt/100km. Around Brisbane stop start 12-13lt/100km.
Use 91ULP as decided to be consistent with fuel type.
Currently 44,000km without an engine problem or anything significant. Very happy with it, family all like it too.
UPDATE 80,000 km. Just hit 80k and if anything the car has got better. Surprisingly the original brake pads are still on. Should get another 10k. The tyre wobble around 30-35 kph has gone with the upgraded Michelins. Gearbox solid. No real rattles but what I thought a sound was the timing chain when going up hill is something else to be determined. Reliable, starts first time, just no issues with it at all. Touch wood.
Update 142,000 km. At 105k didn't fully kick over the engine when starting - made a false start . Blew one of the oxygen sensors ($375) and a bit for Labour. If you fail to tick over the engine it shouldn't result in an O2 sensor failure. However, these sensors are only guaranteed for 80,000km so my bad luck. Apart from that, engine still smick, no other issues. Gearbox works perfectly - changed gearbox oil at 50k, 100k and will do again next service. Oil colour perfect, no indication of deposits. Apart from the O2 sensor last ~40,000km have been problem free.
2013 Aurion ATX – Traded in my 2008 ATX and the new model feel light years ahead. The interior a modern and functional and has all the extras like multi function trip computer that was missing from the earlier model. The biggest difference is the suspension. The new model is rock hard. Its so bad I have taken it back to my Toyota dealer several times who claim it… Read more
is normal. I took it to Pedders who couldnt believe how firm it is. Its so firm that after 15,000kms the car is literally starting to shake apart. I now have rattles in the dash and in both B pillars.
Unfortunately it appears that Toyota Australia has pandered to the motoring press who are obsessed with sports performance and have over tuned the Aurion 's suspension. The car has a beautiful drivetrain but it is not a pleasure to drive.
I had a 2003 V6 Camry, a 2008 Aurion and now this. I have done over 400,000kms in V6 Toyota's and would call my self brand loyal. This car is is a bitter disappointment and I am looking at trading it in with only 15,000 kms on the clock. Great drivetrain. Great interior. Suspension too firm, Dash rattles, Woeful service from Toyota.

I love the firm suspension, and we have the Sportivo where the suspension is even firmer. But I can see how for some people it would be too much.
