DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS BEWARE: The culture at this university, its staff, and the quality of teaching, are REALLY BAD! I strongly recommend anyone considering enrolment to carefully explore other options. First, the university is facing significant staffing and funding issues, which have been widely reported in the news - do a quick Google search! As a result, it often feels like the teaching staff are disengaged. This leads to poorly prepared courses and materials that are hastily put together and AI-generated.
Second, once you’re enrolled the uni doesn’t care about you, and getting post-enrolment administrative help is nigh impossible. You can expect to spend hours on hold or wait for unreasonably long email responses. In some cases, the administrative team won’t even bother to reply! This frustrating process feels like a deliberate business tactic, to avoid hiring sufficient admin staff and instead ‘running students around in circles’ in the hope they’ll give up asking for assistance. In one instance, I was told that the uni was relying on volunteers to staff phones because they were avoidant of paying people! It’s not only a frustrating practice, but it’s also a strategy that could do real harm to a student’s future.
Third, many lecturers and course coordinators do not hold PhDs, and in some cases, are not even doctoral students or candidates. This includes even postgraduate courses. This means that you will likely be taught by a lay professional and will learn very little beyond what you could probably teach yourself.
Fourth, I don’t know if it’s because the university is in a smaller, rural area, but many staff seem to have VERY STRONG right-wing political views, which they openly express in their teaching and marking. Many staff are “pro-Trump” and “pro-Dutton” and they make it known. It’s as though the university has forgotten that a degree is a qualification, not a morality clauses. The university’s criticism of people for having different political views, where people are criticised openly for not being “pro-Trump” or “pro-Dutton” or otherwise pro right-wing, makes a total mockery of its mission.
Fifth and finally, lots of staff are just plain rude! They communicate with students in a very condescending way and are unprepared to engage with students to discuss or explain course content.
Again, I strongly recommend anyone considering enrolment at this Uni to carefully explore other options! It’s really bad!
Do not go here! – Awful! Do not recommend. Their supporting staff are very sloppy.
Really poor teaching quality – Completed Masters With them lost faith in education in Australia. If this business can be called a University, then i am a Wizard of Oz. The selection of subjucts is poor, also no guidance provided on which subjucts a student needs for a future career. Had lectures(recorded) only for 1 subject. For the other 11 subjects received only reference to reading materials and assignment questions. Assignment questions were obvously copied/pasted from somewhere and noone checked if they made srnce or even grammatically correct. Reading material often had nothing to do with assignment questions or with the name of a subject. Teachers never answer questions via email- suggest to ask opinion of peer students.
Good university – I found the staff very helpful even for correspondence courses. The courses are well done. The yellow screen and small writing prevents me from giving 5 stars really that is a shocker on the eyes. The courses are easy to enroll in online, if you have issues they give you assistance over the phone and internet at the same time, and can actually take over your computer to perform actions on your behalf if need be.
