So much love for this oil & its cleaning results are the quickest I have ever seen. I run the VE Holden Commodore SIDI V6 LLT engine & the other 6's in the line up are known as sludge machines, so this was the perfect candidate to use this oil &… Read more
find out what truely happens. So the service was done on September 20th. So far to date, the engine has been running on this oil for 9,020kms. First service was done at 8,020kms & in this time, oil filters were changed at 1,000, 2,500 & 5,000kms. The oil was getting darker from the get go but the engine was also picking up smoothness, quietness & responsiveness which was fantastic. First pic is filter after 1,000kms, second is the thick black gunk from the filter, third is filter at 2,500kms, fourth is oil filter housing at 5,000kms (nasty) & fifth is putting through 15 micron filter bag & sixth is through a 0.5 micron filter bag. If you go down this path, awesome, but be smart in the process. Change/drain oil at 7,500kms or 10,000kms or somewhere in between. Do not waste your time, your money & the oils high cleaning abilities by changing it way way too quick like many others do & change after 500kms or 1,000kms, its just pointless & st^pid! You gain nothing by doing this. By all means, change the filters but leave the oil. Give the engine some high speed & high heat driving & the oil will get to work on the cleaning efficiency. Every engine benefits from this oil, all V engines, straight/inline engines as well as the Subaru horizontal engines.
Follow-up · Fuel efficiency, the oil couldn't make any big improvements here, the fuel is controlled by many other factors like ecu, sensors, driving style & so on. Engine noise decrease yes, as mentioned it has improved on becoming quieter as its being cleaned up on the inside. Oil filters based on these V6 engines are very easy, top engine loaded & they are a cartridge as seen. The oil filters will not be anymore harder to remove change over than before.
I am the owner of a 7 year old Kia (since new) with only 50,000 km on the clock. I was extremely sceptical in relation to trying this oil since all the claims and experiences I had read about seemed far too good to be true. However, since I'd noticed a slight decline in fuel economy over the years (down about 6% since new) and the oil was… Read more
darkening up much more quickly after changes (which I had always done every 8,000 km using a well-regarded brand of full synthetic) I thought I would give this oil a try.
I performed two oil changes with it - the second Restore and Protect change was done after putting the first lot of Restore and Protect in the vehicle for only 1,000 km. The results after these two changes were quite remarkable. Not only has the fuel economy returned to what it was when the vehicle was new (but run-in), the oil is staying clear (as viewed on the dipstick) as it was when the vehicle was brand new too. No more dark oil on the dipstick after a mere couple of thousand kilometres since the last oil change.
An interesting aspect of my experience is that the car produced a distinct burning-oil like smell for a some time after initially doing the Restore and Protect oil change. It was so noticeable that I thought I had accidentally spilt oil onto the engine block or exhaust but I had not. This smell dissipated over a few weeks. I can't authoritatively explain this but I had heard that this was possibly a side-effect of the oil cleaning away internal engine deposits that had been slowly forming over the life of the engine before using Restore and Protect. Either way, the smell has now completely gone, has never returned and the vehicle uses no oil (not that it ever did before either).
I am extremely pleased with this oil and will continue to use it.
The Best engine oil I have ever used on a petrol engine! The claims from Valvoline restoring power, returning to factory clean, removal 99% of carbon deposit from pistons and releasing often stuck piston rings, restoring factory compression to new… Read more
is all true. This oil works over 4 successive oil changes, cleaning gradually so as not to cause any clogging issues from releasing gunk too quickly. I have seen brown, heavily varnished engine internals, transform into immaculate looking, clean, quite running engines. Engine ticking, tapping sounds have gone away in several engines we have used this product in after driving anywhere from 50k’s to 1000k’s. All cars we have used this engine oil have improved fuel economy, improvements ranging between 1-3l per hundred kilometres. Yes the oil pays for itself, in savings on fuel, extends the life of your engine avoiding costly repairs, reduces and can even completely eliminate oil burning/usage. Can only praise this product and I recommend it to anyone that has a petrol engined car that uses either 5w-30 or 10w-40. As always please refer to Valvoline’s lube guide to see if it matches your vehicle manufacturer’s specifications. Also note as this is a relatively new product to market in Australia, not all vehicles are listed on Valvoline’s website, so if you don’t see it as a recommendation give Valvoline technical a call, the boys will only be too happy to help you out. Happy days using Valvoline Restore and Protect, thank you Valvoline!
Follow-up · The engines that have showed the biggest improvements are high mileage examples that are heavily varnished. When using for the first time, it’s good to check how dark the oil is becoming. If you notice it’s very dark in colour, change the oil and filter earlier, like 4-5,000k’s. Continue to use Valvoline Restore & protect for the next 4 successive… Read more
