Perfect chair, terrible gas – I purchased this chair in 2019 on sale. It was reasonably expensive and so I assumed quality. The seat of the chair is very well made, comfortable, heavy, and sturdy. It was a wide chair and suitable for taller people like me. It was perfect for about 6 months until the gas started failing. It would slowly lower me to the floor until my knees were under my chin. I would raise it back up to full height and everything would be ok for a week. As time went on the gas would fail more often until doing it several times a night. Try streaming as you slowly lower out of sight of your camera!
After multiple raising of the chair the gas canister bent under the weight of the chair and failed completely (I'm well within the weight limit of 110kg).
I claimed a replacement under warranty and it took a lot of photos and explanations until I was shipped out a replacement.
Because the base is aluminum it had over time stuck together so it was almost impossible to separate the gas canister from the base or the chair. A lot of effort and scratches to the base later I finally separated them and installed the new gas canister.
Everything was fine until just after warranty when the gas started failing again in the same way. The canister has completely stopped working now and wont even hold the chair in a stable position. I'm not even sure if it is worth trying to buy a replacement gas canister from Vertagear as it will just fail again. Its way too thin and not strong enough or such a heavy chair. Lighter chairs I've owned have heavier duty gas canisters.
I'm back to using my old Ikea office chair Ive had for over 10 years.
