What on earth has happened to Vicks now? It smells of NOTHING , just petroleum jelly! I have 100g which I paid £6 for but it does nothing and has lost it's smell , so I resorted to adding my own eucalyptus oil to it instead of throwing it in the BIN BUT I have decided to go back to Olbas Oil instead as at least that is strong and has a SMELL Show details
Follow-up · When I added the eucalyptus oil to the Vicks it smelled much better but ended up more runny I am finding Olbas Oil expensive and I used to love the texture of Vicks on my neck and just below my nostrils , with the Olbas oil it does not get near enough to my nose itself , so is not satisfying enough , so I am still looking for a suitable solution!
Diet version of the 'original' Vicks Vapour Rub – When I was a young child (back in the ye olde 80's) my mother would bring out the Vick's Vapour Rub whenever I had a cold or runny nose - as soon as she opened the lid, the oils in it were so potent that our eyes would water and the chill/burn feeling and strong, sinus-clearing aroma after it was rubbed on my chest would last for hours. I am now… Read more
in my mid-40's and decided to purchase some Vick's to put in my medicine cabinet (it was totally not for nostagic reasons!!) and when I opened the lid for a delightful whiff, I found that it barely smelled of anything at all. Obviously the amount of menthol and essential oils have been drastically reduced, no doubt to cut costs, and it is very disappointing.
Could just ONE of the products I enjoyed as a child not be a victim of shrinkflation or inferior/cheaper ingredients and recipes?
The Use By date on my jar of Vicks VapoRub is February 1993 - 32 years ago. Can't remember the last time I used it as a decongestant, however, for years I've used it on midge, wasp and mosquito bites and all of the bites stop itching almost… Read more
instantly. And in the case of a wasp bite, the pain as well as the itch stops. I've been using a prescribed medication cream on an itchy rash on my lower leg for a couple of days. The cream wasn't helping so today I rubbed some Vicks VapoRub on it and after 1 application, the itch has stopped and the rash has almost disappeared. Medicated cream didn't work, but, Vicks VapoRub definitely has.
Follow-up · The texture hasn't changed. It is stored in the bathroom cabinet. Haven't used it since the end of October.

New Vics VapoRub – Please bring back the old Vicks. The new vicks ingredients are similar on the label but it clearly is not. It smells awful. It is weak and feels like a watered-down version of the trusted brand. Show details
New Vicks very unsatisfactory – My new jar of Vicks is very different from the old Vicks. I've used Vicks for decades and was surprised and disappointed to find the new product unusable because of its unpleasant odor. My old Vicks was manufactured in Mexico; the new one manufactured in India. I hope Amazon will consent to my returning it.

I found the lavender Vicks vapor rub great – I saw on Google that Vicks vapor rub was good for fungal infection on toes. I only have one infected toe and have been using twice daily for about a week and a half. I've seen a definite sign of improvement. I had used the expensive fungus liquid and didn't see anything happening. I definitely recommend this product. Show details
Fantastic experience – Decongestant pills and capsules don't work for me, so when I tell you that I got relief from vaporub, that should read as a small miracle occurred. It wasn't instantaneous and I don't know if it was the whole night or not, but it was consistent and it was enough to get me to fall asleep even with a terrible, terrible sinus block and it was… Read more
comfortable and soothing enough where I slept soundly through the night, which I needed desperately. Like, if this was a fairytale, I would give these people my first-born child as an apprentice, the relief was so consistent and helpful. Will definitely be using again whenever I have sinus blocks or colds.
I love Vicks Vapor rub!! – I wish a chapstick could be made of Vicks Vapor rub!! It really works on chapped lips and cold soars!! I use this product on my lips every single night!!!
Negative reviews
Waste of money – A friend bought this for me as part of a care package because I am blocked up with acold/flu. It used to be a tried and true product but they changed the formula and ruined it. Don't bother buying as it no longer works. Show details
NEW FORMULA VICKS....UGH"""""HORRIBLE SMELL – New formula Vicks VapRub has a smell similar to that of mucking out cow manure. It is absolutely awful. The first time I opened the jar, I just closed it back up and threw it away. Couldn't even return it. Come on Vicks....make it right and bring back old formula. I know the new stuff is cheaper to manufacture, but customer satisfaction should rate in that equation somewhere. I will never buy it again. Show details
Vicks VapoRub smell – I don’t like the new smell. It doesn’t seem like it works because it doesn’t have that reassuring smell. I hope you bring back the original

What happened to a great product? – I just bought a new plastic container of what I thought was Vic’s vapo rub. What a disappointment. It was expensive for a misrepresentation of the previous rub. It’s basically useless so I’ll try greasing my boat trailer axles with the remainder. Show details

Totally disappointed and never buying again – Totally agree with the others . I googled ‘Vicks vaporub doesn’t smell like it used to’ and this site showed up. It used to smell so strong and almost burn (in a good way). Never buying it again. Will search for generic brand now
The new Vick is useless – Our jar of Vick was getting low (dated 2002) so while shopping she got a new jar (£4.00) and when we opened it, well the only way that will bring tears to your eye's is if someone hits you in the eye with the jar. It's the very effeminate version of the real thing, useless. Ricky Davis.
Terrible change! – This smells nothing like it used to smell. The smell fades really fast and it’s useless now. Where can I get a jar of the previous recipe? All my life there was Vick’s Vaporub but no more. I’m 70. Show details
Changed to point of practically useless – My mother and grandmother used this for severe congestion through my childhood. It was a wonderful and effective product. Either rubbed on chest or sometimes added to hot water and the steam inhaled it really helped clear congestion. It had that strong characteristic eucalyptus and camphor smell. I haven’t used it though in more than 20 years.… Read more
Recently we were ill with a lot of lingering congestion and I thought of this old standby and purchased some. I was so disappointed to open it and smell—-nothing. No scent whatsoever. No we didn’t have Covid either and can smell other stuff. Even sticking nose down in jar, no scent. This would be unheard of with the original product and should have already produced a sensation of sinuses opening. Nothing. Nada. It’s practically useless. Did rub some on our chests which after several minutes did produce a mild warm sensation but that was it. Why are simple, cheap, effective remedies changed to the point of uselessness? Everyday the future proves it can’t even match the past only fail to even live up to things from then. So very disappointing.
Where the smell we have come to count on – I bought a new jar of Vick vapor rub as well as the Vicks scented Kleenex !! Where is the smell I have come to count on this new smell is horrible go back to the original this stuff sticks and no longer seems to even help loosen a cough or help you breathe .please go back to the Original recipe . It almost seems to make the breathing more difficult especially in the Kleenex !!! Show details
So disappointed – This product no longer has the menthol content it once had and is therefore ineffective. It no longer unblocks a nose or helps relieve a head cold. I won't buy it again! Show details
What's it good for? Leaving on the shelf – Bought this before reading the reviews. Have to agree - now a totally useless product not fit for purpose. Used this product for tears and it used to be good for clearing my sinuses when I had a cold but you can hardly get a whiff of anything with this new stuff. Will never buy it again. Would gave preferred to give it no stars. Don't waste your money. Show details
Awful – I bought a new jar of Vicks vaporub. It is pathetic. It has very little smell and does not have the strength of the old formula. Very disappointing and looking at the majority of of others reviews I'm not alone. Heed the saying, if it's not broke don't try to fix it! Show details
Oh Vicks what have you done? – I bought a jar to use for steam inhalation but I find the smell of it sickening. What a waste of money! The old formula was a wonderful product and definitely provided congestion relief. I do not recommend this product. Show details

Not the same/Useless – The new product is nothing more than Vaseline. I will never purchase it again. I wish I could leave no stars. It has no scent and does not help. It is useless! Show details
Bad smell not the same – Very bad smell does not smell the same very disappointed Wish I had known before I brought it. But I hope to find another 1 out there that smells like the old one
Was my go-to for colds NOT NOW! – I used to slather VICKS on my feet and pop some socks on. I’d also sit and sniff the jar to clear my head and stop a cough. The new VICKS is no better than petroleum jelly-waste of time! Someone needs to manufacture a jar of ‘back to VICKS’! Show details
Utterly useless! – I might aswell rub Vaseline on my chest, this is NOT the old Vicks or anywhere near it. Complete rubbish and you guys should be ashamed! It does nothing and smells like nothing Show details
What happened? You were a staple! Not now sadly! – This product was a part of our home sickness go to supply! When sick as either a child or adult (or now my family) Vicks use to warm the chest and back when applied and was so comforting, especially when going to sleep. What have you done? Seriously why have you ruined a perfect product? Sadly you have ruined a great product. So sad and I will… Read more
have to look elsewhere for another product to replace the original Vicks. Are you trying to cut costs, are you concerned that idiots are rubbing it in their eyes, I don’t understand. Have a weak one? Have a normal good strength one? But you’ve lost me and my family and whoever else. Maybe it’s ingredients were toxic! The mind wanders! I never rant. But this worked so well and I’m saddened by its inferior replacement. Upsetting my friend. You’re a shadow of yourself :( Edit: they have brought out a stronger version. It’s good but it seems it’s just the original rebranded, at a much greater cost that the ‘weaker’ one. Anyway I’m glad they’ve brought a stronger one. I don’t think they should have changed it in the first place. Maybe just to make more money, marketing etc.
NOT THE SAME!! – These days now is not to cure people anymore! All medicines products that used to help you does not work anymore! Depopulation! Todays products are just Rubbish!! Grew up using Vicks VapoRub but this is no longer a good product! Never purchasing this and anything affiliated with this company. Just a reminder, Romans 12:19 Vengeance is Mine. Lol Show details
Rip off new product does nothing – This new product whatever it is does nothing. I say whatever it is because it certainly isn’t even remotely similar to real Vicks vapor rub. The company should be ashamed. Seriously this product is useless now . It used to be good Show details
Disappointed – As soon as opened the jar I knw it wasn't the same, had no smell. Rubbed it on my chest and made no difference. Will not buy it again. Bring back the old formula Show details
Complete fail. Does not work nearly as good as it used to – This was always my go-to cold savior. It not longer has the same smell or chest soothing properties. The smell used to waft up from your chest, clearing your nasal passages. It no longer does that either. I'm completely disappointed. Show details
Whomever changed the formula is destroying your customer base. Does new Coke ring a bell – Both my daughter and I independently purchased Vicks Vapo Rub as I always refer to it as. I've used it since I was a young kid. I opened it and thought I had Covid (lost my sense of smell) . Luckily I had an old jar with a little left in it. I opened it and could smell that wonderful, nasal clearing smell. The new product seems to have no smell… Read more
at all. I guess you can use it to lube a bicycle chain instead of vasiline. Ironically, a few weeks later my daughter called to warn me not to buy Vicks as they changed it. She know how I've always had Vicks in the house for my family. I told her thanks but it was too late. I had already purchased the last jar I'll ever buy.
