Westinghouse 690L Side by Side WSE6970SF (Stainless Steel) Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPNs: WSE6970SA, WSE6970SE and WSE6970SFPlease could someone provide clear instruction on how to remover the ice maker assembly?
The ice tray on mine is cracked and leaking water.
Hi i have just recently replaced my filter in my 2door fridge/freezer, since i have done this when I dispense water the first 100ml comes out hot? can you please give me a way to stop this from happening. Regards Rodney
first 100ml at room temp would be normal. if its hot maybe the hose is against an internal side which do get very hot.?
My ice maker is working ok but the ice crusher is not working. The blades don’t engage when the crushed ice option is selected on the control panel. Any tips please?
Icemaker not working. No ice being made. Tried increasing the water flow and defrosting. Still no love
Hello, My model doesn't have a ice maker sorry, I still do it the old fashion way, I'd be looking though youtube for others that might have had this issue
My WSE6970SF is making but not dispensing ice. I have removed the tray cleaned it all replaced and have now found the bottom dispenser is at fault. There would be a solenoid valve controlling that flap are these replaceable or is a whole new unit required.
Have just rectified the same problem. The controller is not a solenoid but rather a small 12v dc motor with geared control arms. Can be easily removed by the four retaining screws. The motor enclosing case side clips can then be released exposing the motor , gears and connections Mine turned out to simply be poor connection. A no cost fix.
Thanks Peter I will have a look
Peter, sorry to trouble you but when I removed the front panel I had difficulty removing the plugs from the circuit board. What did you do. I can see the 12 v motor to which you refer. I actually took the panel off with the 4 screws but until the the wires are disconnected I actually can't get the panel right off. I am scared to pull too hard. Hope you can tell me how you did it.
I'm al s o having this problem... makes ice but will not send it down the shute. How can Westinghouse/ Electrolux get away with this? So many b people having the same issue!!
Peter Beacroft's answer encouraged me to have a look at mine. Relatively easy to get the motor out and with mine the gears were just seized up a little. Freed them and it is now working fine, ice flap opening correctly.
Mine moved freely but it looked like the controller wasn’t sending the signal for long enough to fully open or close it. It moves only a few mm back and forth
Hi all, just in case anyone has the same issue and struggling with parts, just updating my experience here. So, my icemaker was working and producing ice, but when you push the ice lever no ice was coming out as above. There is an ice door with a motor as above that activates on a switch to open when the button is depressed. Mine was part number STAA125E01 but couldnt get this part anywhere. I cross referenced it with bigwarehousespares and found part no. 1734586 but it was not available, and they suggesting using part 1906454 which is the dispenser housing for $277 and will NOT fix the issue as it doesnt include the motor. With a bit of searching, I? found an identical looking LG part but with a different serial number on it, so thought I'd give it a go, and turns out it works perfectly! I got it on lgsparepart.com.au and part reference is "LG Ice Dispenser Door Motor EAU59551204 / AP5679644 GF-L570PNL GF-L613PL". Was $33 plus $7 postage. Hope this is of use to someone else out there!
I'm having a similar issue no ice being made and the display panel doesn't work when the door is shut but works when you open the door fully.. weird ... how do I get to the little motor .. is there a video tutorial anywhere
Hi Tanya can't help with the display but there is a video on you tube which I saw a couple of years back. You actually need to remove the front panel but I found when I got to the motor it was very difficult to remove, I need look again but I didn't bother proceeding because I could not find the spare part. I know this probably doesn't help but you can try. Maybe look at Ben H reply above. It also may help me. The display also may correct when you put it back together. Good luck.
Two door fridge with water and ice dispenser -WSE6970sf. The solenoid controlling the ice release in the shute tube is not functioning. Is a new solenoid available? Code stamped on solenoid is STAA125E01. Thank you peterandmichellebeacroft@gmail.com
Looks like a lot of us are having the same issue. Where is Westinghouse in all this? We only need the part number and its a small job.
Des, On close inspection it is not a solenoid but a small 12v dc motor with geared and control arm. It can be removed by the four retaining screws, side clips on case then released and inspected. Mine turned out to be a poor connection. All fixed, no cost.

Hi Ben, just ordered the LG part. Will let you know how I go. Thank you
Do you have a video on how to do this please
Just replaced the ice maker assembly (due to cracked ice tray) however now the dispenser flap is not opening to release the ice. Anyone had this issue and found a solution?
Same issue
Hi , I’ve replaced the ice maker in My WSE6970SF , it’s working fine now but I’ve will not come down the shoot when holding the ice button Thanks blair
I have this same issue
I have the same issue. This has been an issue n and off since we purchased the fridge. It now happens daily , it has got worse. Without having to pull the thing apart I'd say a spring has rusted.
Westinghouse WSE6970SA not making ice. Any help?
I have a WSE6970SA (Stainless Steel) Fridge. Recently it has started freezing food, it is currently set to 7.0 deg C highest it can to but everything is still freezing. Has anyone had similar, was there a fix?
Water leaks from underneath the bottom black plastic door hinge cover on the freezer side (LHS) every time you press the paddle on the water dispenser - water does not come out of the water dispenser nozzle at all, just from under the door hinge and onto the floor. The ice-maker is working as it should with no leaks detected there. We have checked behind the front control panel and the tube which connects the water supply to the dispenser nozzle is still firmly attached and is not damaged at all, so it's not that. Any clues as to what might be the problem and can we buy a part and DIY or must we call a repair man?
Hi ,could you tell us how to get the display back from farenhieght to centigrade.
Hello, last week my curcuit breaker cut out in my switchboard. then I reset it i checked my 680l side by side fridge and noted the light has now turned to blue? is this a setting that can be reversed?
Hi , I have got westinghouse model wse6970sf , do not how but ice maker is off , does anyone know how to turn it on ? please email me . Thanks H_Kalati@yahoo.com
Why do we bother asking questions when Westinghouse don't answer any of them?
According to the Westinghouse web site, the ice tray part for the ice maker has been superseded and replaced with the entire ice maker assembly, does this mean that I cannot get this cheap quality, small and very hard plastic part on its own from anywhere? I've figured out how to remove the whole unit without damaging it, removing the tray was easy after that, now I have a tray with a big crack that would take me 5 mins to replace and reinstall, and your telling me I have to pay $180 to replace the entire unit, is this correct?
Im trying to remove the ice maker assembly but cant figure out how to get it out without breaking anything else! Any tips appreciated!
How did you go with your repair ? I've removed the ice tray. It has a crack in it. Can you buy just the ice tray ? I've tried to super glue with bicarb (no luck)
That sucks, just going thru the same problem now. The ice tray is the achilles heal of the whole unit.
Hi my ice tray is stuck a downward position and I can’t move it Thanks Blair
Hi i have the WSE6970SF fridge and there is water that leaks out from underneath the fridge. Can you help thanks Anthony.
ice tray is cracked, can I buy the ice tray only?
Did you get an answer to this question Anna? It seems to have been asked a few times and no answer. We have the same problem and with a new ice maker assembly unit costing nearly $200 it seems silly that you cannot just purchase the plastic ice tray which you would assume would have to be considerably cheaper. It seems that it is a normal wear and tear item due to the flexing of the ice tray when it is emptied and therefore should be replaceable separately but I have not been able to locate one. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
No we had no luck with Westinghouse, we rang and you have to buy the complete unit which we purchased for $150.00. Which is ridiculous
Have an issue the fridge is stop starting. When I open the fridge door the blue light flashes and it a the time on the lcd to 1200.
Hello, I just post a similar question to this before I noticed yours. Did you find how to fix this issue?
