Westinghouse 340L Top Mount WTB3400 Series

westinghouse refrigator • WTB3400WG – Failed after 6 years - needs replacement, can smell gas.(edit - wasn’t gas, must have been food etc). The motor had failed, more expensive to replace than renew! Repairman said it very common with this frig. So just hope the replacement (similar) model will last longer than 6 years. prior to it failing the performance was ok, keeping drinks quite cool was the main function.

Terrible product – I purchased this refrigerator from The Good Guys 31/05/14 thankfully with an extended warranty. to wait 3 days for a repair person so have lost all contents again and have to take a day off work again as they can only give you a day and then 30 minutes notice of repair persons arrival. The product is now in the extended warranty period with The Good Guys extended warranty. I have no doubt that this product will fail again and I will then have finished the warranty period. I have spoken to Westinghouse / Electrolux about this but it seemed that their main concern was not that their product was substandard but that it was not their problem but was the problem of the extended warranty company. My advice, avoid buying Westinghouse / Electrolux products at all costs. Obviously not built to go any reasonable distance.

Good so far – Only had this fridge for less than a day, but so far it seems okay. The freezer is a very good size with an ice cube twister / collection tray. Unlike some models, the twister component is removable if you need extra freezer space. The LED light inside the fridge is nice and bright. There is no light in the freezer. you if the doors are kept open for an extended period. There is no electronic control panel on this fridge - just a simple temperature slide controller in the fridge, and another in the freezer.

This fridge is most definitely noisier than my smaller 18 year-old Fisher & Paykel fridge this one replaces, but unless you sleep in your kitchen it shouldn't be an issue. The external sides of the fridge get quite warm when running (manual says this is normal), so make sure there's adequate ventilation on the sides.

Not a massive fan of the "Flex Store" sliding plastic shelves. They give you 2 x two-third length shelves, and 2 x one-third length shelves so you can arrange them in a stepped-like fashion - they hang on rails inside the door and they can be remounted and slide around to re-arrange as you like... but for me just not very practical. The two-third shelf is large enough for 10 eggs, not 12. Who buys 10 eggs? You can buy extra Flex Store components (e.g. - extra shelves, a can dispenser).

The fridge's top shelf is a plastic chiller compartment. I'm not sure what to keep in there. The manual doesn't explain anything. The vege crisper drawer at the bottom has a humidity controller and a good size. The standard shelves inside the fridge are glass. If anything - I think there are too many shelves, so I might sometime remove one or two to make space for tall items.

The fridge has a deodorizer but not sure how it works or whether it needs any maintenance - the manual shows a picture of how to open the deodorizer compartment, but fails to explain anything else or why you would want to open it. This fridge came with door hinges on the right. The door hinge can be moved if you purchase the optional door conversion kit (allow about $38).

Overall a pretty good, simple fridge for the price, and works out pretty economical to run with the 3.5 star energy rating.

was, but you'd expect that, because it has a larger motor. That said, when it's running, you can't really hear it unless you are standing nearby. It's there, it's audible, but it's not intrusive. The glass shelves make for easy cleaning, and I love the IceCube maker and the door storage which my previous lacked.

All in all, an excellent fridge which I expect to last at least as long as the last (which was still working well after 16 years!)

[Edit] Updating this review, it is now 3 years since purchase and I am still very happy with it. It remains relatively quiet, efficient, and no drain on the electricity. Very happy, and will buy Westinghouse again in the future should it become necessary. Somehow I do not think that will be likely.

Westinghouse 340 litre refrigerator – I bought the fridge in early 2019, time enough to assess it. The curved lower shelf allows objects to fall off, and the freezer trays are awkward to put back. The blue tape holding parts in place is hard to remove, and some is still there. Apart from that, excellent. Power use is $80-90/year, acceptable. Swapping the door hinge took a bit of time, about the same as other fridges. Show details

Stopped working after about two months – Fridge keeps activating safety switch, not working, and they say it won’t be fixed til they send out repair person 4/10/2022 it’s the 23/9/2022! Not happy!

Ridiculously Noisy – This is the noisiest fridge I’ve ever bought. Every time the compressor starts, the fridge begins make an extremely loud gurgling sound which penetrates throughout my apartment. Modern – Love internal space even though still considered a small or compact fridge for small apartment. Impressed with freezer and ice cube compartment. draws are excellent for preventing loss of cold air.

The vegetable draw is fine for two or three people.

It is easy to clean and organise.

I find having a fridge that is smaller rather than larger means you don't keep unnecessary or expired things in there and I find I clean it out more frequently which is good.

I love the ice tray also.

My only problem is that we were told it would come with a door converter but it was not included in the delivery. After several phone calls I have not been able to sort this out and it is a great nuisance in our small kitchen. Not too happy about this.

Basic fridge does the job – This is a very basic fridge but its good brand and works flawlessly. Its as cold as a mother in laws kiss and quiet as a mouse when running. I got it to fit into our limited kitchen space. Its surprisingly light in weight, I guess they don make em like they used to but its also more efficient than the old ones. Great fridge – The design of this refrigerator is tall and slim ensuring it will fit in a narrower space. Great space inside and adequate freezer compartment with fitted ice tray. It is very quiet and I am usually unaware of the motor when it comes on. On reading my review Westinghosue got in touch with me, but then proceeded to do NOTHING. No further communications even though I gave them my details.

So I unfortunately I can not recommend this Fridge or Westinghouse.

Great All Round Fridge – This fridge is narrow and that is exactly what we needed to fit our odd shaped kitchen. It runs extremely quietly and the freezer is excellent. There is plenty of space and it can freeze ice in no time. Our old one really struggled. The shelves are well laid out and it looks good too. still consider it to be a quiet fridge. I'm the only user of the fridge at present but I reckon it'd be suitable for 3 at least. Oh, and the ice maker is fantastic. Finally, the shelves and compartments are easily removed from the fridge for cleaning. Recommended.

Excellent Refrigerator! – Very energy efficient for the same priced other brands. 4 star energy rating which will consume only 328 KWh/year. Maintains excellent cooling temperature in both fridge and freezer. Multiple settings for different fruits and vegetables in the bottom compartment. of ice blocks for drinks now. The slide out tray for butter, cheese etc. at the top is a great idea. I like the gadget at the bottom to keep bottles from rolling around. The sliding shelving in the door is excellent and I can slide to accommodate any size of bottle or jar. All in all a great fridge.

It works,but very noisy – It was delivered in September,2017when the unit renovation about to finish.I started use 3 weeks ago. It maintains the temperature. Somehow the motor runs almost every hour. Good Value – We bought this as our first ever fridge for our first ever home. It was brilliant. Was affordable, looked good and did its job.
