Workhorse Washing Machine – We've had this washing machine for over a decade and it's been an absolute workhorse, and with sometimes up to 6 adults and a young child at home to wash for. I honestly can't fault this washing machine because it has been so reliable and that's what I always want in an appliance I buy. Show details
Dying a slow death – Having read some other reviews I guess we're lucky - I bought this about 5 years ago and it is still running after a fashion. It just keeps trying and trying to drain at the end of the spin cycle and may keep trying forever but after 5 hours or so we go out and turn the power off at the wall to get the door lock to open (the reset button doesn't… Read more
seem to work, nor does turning it off with the dial). I have had to unclog the pump filter a couple of times and noticed like other people a fair amount of rust down there. It washes marginally ok at best. I do know it is not getting the wash water anywhere near the 'antibacterial' temp it brags on the front, and our hot water is piping hot from the spout. Fortunately we have bought a new house and have saved up to buy something that will last - a Speed Queen - so this marginal time waster machine can go to its just desserts at the tip. I also think it is pretty telling that a Whirlpool rep does not seem to monitor ProductReview and address some of the complaints. Most of the others seem to, even those with a lot of complaints. I know Whirlpool doesn't sell washing machines here anymore but they still do business in Aus for other appliances so it's not too much to ask for them to take responsibility for what they have sold in the past. Obviously I would never buy anything they make ever again both for the crap product and the lack of responsibility for it. It's a shame because Whirlpool used to make great stuff, up there with Maytag and Speed Queen, but now they are just a rubbish product and a company that won't even face up to their rubbish product.
Same as everyone else – Rust under the control panel, very loud, long wash cycles, clothes come out smelling musty. Keeps saying the filter is clogged. Very hard to drain when the pump isn't working and the washer is still full! We've only had this washer for about 6 years and it's already time to replace it!
Positive reviews
Still kicking on – Have had the washer for at least 7 years, use the machine at least four times a week. Rusting is an issue that has started over the last year and foam is starting to leak from the detergent dispenser during the initial wash. The wash cycle is still fantastic and until rust kills this machine I'll be happy.
Good little front loader – This machine washed our clothes economically and efficiently. We only ever used the quick wash setting and it did as good a job as any we've ever had. Those who have trouble with their models make me wonder if they follow the guidelines for correct usage and care of the equipment.
Some problems but still working – OK, yes, residual water caught in the door will drip down the face of the machine if you don't wipe it and this will start rusting the machine. The detergent bin is poorly made and both clips broke but it still works. But in terms of resilience, the machine is good. It's chugged through nappies, duvets, sheets and a myriad of kids clothes. I am sure we've overloaded it, and it's found a way to power through. So, really, I can't complain
Negative reviews
Really Bad – We bought this after having a top loader for years (it is our first front loader), its been disappointing on many fronts. It wont fit in a large blanket, it permed the smaller ones (despite following the washers instructions), and turned a single quilt into a hard mat :/ It doesn't wash well and often leaves clothes dry, alternatively when it… Read more
actually wets them it leaves clothes dripping wet. It used to spin well, but not any more, I often have to do a separate spin cycle, this is after waiting hours for a load to finish.
We're going back to top loaders, at least then I'll be able to wash my comforter (I was told by sales staff it would take a comforter with no worries, it does not), and do a decent load size.
I also find it disappointing that it does not take the higher rating of clothes, most cycles take 4kgs or under, it was advertised as 7.5 or thereabouts (it was a while ago now lol). That is only for the very hot cycles, so not practical at all :/
All in all its been a bad experience, and I can't wait for my new machine to arrive :)
Disappointing...very – Purchased in 2008 for $700, ran OK for 3 years of warranty (I expected stiff towells and coins jammed in the outlet so that I had to let water out all over the floor when trying to clear it... Inconvenient but no biggie...) Then it started to make odd noises so paid to extend Whirlpool warranty for 12 mths (that was a rip off for $150) and had to… Read more
replace motor within that year, 2011, under the warranty. Then last year 2014 had to replace water pump for $250. Now, a year later, the electric board has gone and will cost over $300 to fix. No way. So that's 7 years for an outlay of $1100. Hmmm.... So now I'm looking for a more reliable machine - do they exist??? When I ask in the shops, they all say 'machines are not built to last any more than about 5 years' - that's just outrageous.
Waste of time and money – After 3 years it died. It was so loud during spin my neighbourhood complained, one load took 2-3 hours to complete and mold and awful smell was a huge problem. It cost more to fix than replace. I'm glad these aren't sold in major stores anymore, they're useless. it's a huge blow to Whirlpool as they used to be a good brand, until they released… Read more
front loaders manufactured in China. They don't even make top loaders anymore.
I went back to a top loader and bought a Fisher & Paykel 7.5kg Washsmart. It's now 4 years old and works like a charm, in 45 minutes!

Worst Machine Ever – Absolutely garbage. broke in less then 2 years, the board fried itself. After replaced the board, less then 1 year now it wouldn't drain!! Never by a Whirlpool.
Avoid At All Cost – It's a user unfriendly machine. Once you select the program and press the start button you can't open the door in the middle of the program even after all water is drained. It's very annoying. That's the start. After 1 year the machine program takes longer to complete. An hour wash turns into one and a half hour wash sometimes even more. After 5… Read more
years the machine is dying. I can see debris of plastic coming out of the machine during draining. Recently I noticed the machine releases stinking smell during operation. So, after 7 years of terrible washing I'm replacing it. When I shop for new machine I can find that no one is selling Whirlpool washing machine anymore.
Rusty machine – It started to slowly rust and then kept rusting all over the front of the machine. It looks awful, but still going, but leaks on quick wash. No help when I rang whirlpool. It will not complete the spin with a heavy bath mat. There are only two of us so, not used every day and wiped over after each use. Well, it is still going. I bought it in 2008
Absolutely disgusting – Absolutely disgusting. Do yourself a favour and never buy a Whirlpool. Our completely died after the 2 years of warranty. Absolutely useless. I don't think I've ever had a worst product than this. I called and asked what can we do about it and they said "nothing". We should sue. If you agree, we can put up a petition and a formal complaint. Nothing It completely died off after the warranty.

Absolute garbage – This was a replacement for our old Whirlpool that died a week out of warranty, credit to Whirlpool for still replacing it, but this one is rubbish. It is so loud, it is concerning, and it vibrates so much it ends up halfway across the laundry. It stinks all the time, no matter what I do, and despite cleaning and letting it air out, there is some… Read more
mould or something growing on the seal. The seal broke as a result, and started spilling out water on the floor. Glass door is nice, better that the plastic that is becoming more common Noisy, grinding sound, poor design, vibrates, and the clothes don't even come out clean, they are slimy and covered in detergent
Bad, bad design! What a complete waste of money! – I thought I was doing the right thing buy buying a front loader. It has Whirlpool stamped on it, which I thought was a good brand till I bought this washing machine. I will never recommend or buy Whirlpool again! It is worse than terrible!! I give it half a star. It has a quick wash option. The only option for cold wash is the handwash setting… Read more
which is so slow. It has been rusting from the inside since I bought it because of the bad (sleek) design and the way the water and bubbles come out at the washing liquid input. The spin cycle does not spin to full capacity on some occasions. It takes too long to be able to open the door when the cycle is finished.
rust bucket – seems to be the norm for these machines to rust in the same place. forever telling me to clean the filter when it is empty.not worth repairing or giving away.will never buy another whirlpool product or recommend to another person. have to decide what to replace it with now, maybe a bosch rusty
Would never purchase another Whirlpool – Like previous reviews, the rust started early on. It, the rust, started under the control panel then it started rusting in the panel under the door. We have had to velcro the bottom panel on because there is nothing there, but rust, to hold the panel in place. There has been a smell coming from the machine, the machine started to make a noise and has now stopped completely. Rust, smell, leaking water
Worst machine ever - and terrible customer service – If you considering buying Whirpool think again! My machine stated to rust under the control panel just after 2 years and now it looks like a 40 years old!. When I called Whirpool customer care I was told that machine probably is in a very humid environment (!) and that I was probably overloading it with washing powder(!). For the record - I don't… Read more
live in a dump, and no other machine was ever rusty. I have only 3 people in a household and don''t use the machine every day. The quality of the wash is questionable- I had washing powder residue and switched to liquid detergents, and the clothes were not clean even if I run on a longest cycle.
It is 4 years now and it stopped working - could be the pump. Paid $700 and even it is not a top range machine I would expect it to last more that 4 years!
Would never buy Whirpool again - waste of money and don't want to hear ridiculous excuses - don't washing machines suppose to use water? and isn't it is a so called "humid environment"?
Terrible service, terrible quality
Widget the idgit – Machine had rust appearing in panel section below door after only 18 months. This has now deveoped into full blown cancer. Wash cycles abnormally long and pump filter difficult to drain off if filter requires cleaning.Machine now leaving powder residue over clothes and ''water tap closed'' light continually stops machine through cycles. Control panel / electronics reliablle and simple to use. Rust issues and ongoing wash cycles.
Not recommended – This machine started to rust under the control panel and leak water. I cleaned out the filter that wasn't blocked and then got the whirlpool man out ($95) who told me they rust and leak anyway. I paid 95 bucks for something I already knew. Would not recommend this machine for anyone. Nothing Leaking water on the floor and rust starting on front panel.
I have the same problem with rust......... still washes well but it's going to fall apart with all the rust!
Use a bucket - it would be better than this machine – Pretty useless. There is not enough water in the wash so half the time your clothes come out with washing powder or dry. We have resorted to adding water via the soap tray mid cycle to ensure the clothes get wet. They don't come out very fresh and the machine is really loud. Every cycle except Quick Wash takes several hours. We bought… Read more

Starting to have problems – We have had this washing machine for over 10 years and up until now it has been a reasonable machine with having long cycles and clothes not being rinsed properly due to the low water usage (common to most front loaders from what i hear), however now we are having major problems with cycles taking way longer than they should/not rinsing and… Read more
spinning and having to manually reset the machine to finish the cycle off. I suspect the engine will need replacing so guess its time for a new machine but having read these reviews I will be buying a different brand. Low water usage, clothes clean and well spun Having problems in last 18months that causes the cycle to take too long and manually reset to finish cycle
mine is 7 years old and I have been having sinilar problems with having to manually change the settings, now the pump just want go at all
used to be good – We purchased this machine 4 years ago. no major problems initially. We accidentally put on hot wash a couple of times cos it was close to quick wash and 2 and half hours later, a crumpled mess of boiling clothes came out!. Purchased a Bosch today. Will see how that goes. worked well fro a couple of years smell wouldnt go away, rust and leaking
Rusting front panel – awful - less than 3 years old and the front panl just above the door is rusting, paint bubbling away and the metal is actualy lifting from the machine itself. In such a position i cant see how it can be fixed easily. from day one the detergent bubbled out and over the detergent chamber. wont be back to whirlpool. water saving not bad a washing machine that rusts out!!

Great washer especially for the price! – We bougt this washer 4years ago now and it has been great. So easy to stabilize and use. Washes way better then the front loader we had previously, use eco cycle for a shorter wash. compartment. Hoses and filters need to be checked reguarly as is with all front loaders to prevent blockages. No issues with rust here either. energy and water efficient, beautifully clean clothes! bubbles from powder compartment on wrong cycle
Pretty average – It's good on water and power. However; It doesn't wash clothes all that well. The pump sometimes clogs up (although it's easy to clean once you know how - just unscrew the plug under the front lower panel). The sensor falls off the door catch - so the machine thinks the door is open and wont start. It takes hours to do a 7.5kg wash. It's… Read more
noisy. It actually has a concrete slab in it as a vibration dampener - so it's really heavy. Next time I buy a washer, it will be the cheapest, simplest, top loader I can. Fairly cheap at scratch and dent shop. Fairly water and power efficient. Very slow. Doesn't wash clothes as well as old top loader. Sometimes leaks. Pump clogs up. Sensor falls off door catch. Rusting noticably after 3 years.
You would be better off with a washboard and a bucket – This machine worked well enough for about 3 years. It was a bit loud and slow but I expected this with a front loader. Initially we had troubles with a strong mildew smell from the machine but after switching to powdered detergent the smell went away. The washer would foam and leak (using front loader washing powder) if you tried to wash a… Read more
small load but mostly things were fine.
At about 3 years the real problems started. I noticed that the cycles were taking a very long time to complete... sometimes several hours. To complete a cycle I had to change the settings or manually set the washer to spin. Then the machine stopped working entirely. It would fill with water but wouldn't wash or spin. We had the repairman in and paid him $143 to find that the motor brushes were worn and that the entire motor would need to be replaced. With parts and labour this would cost an additional $400 for a grand total of approximately $543 to fix a $780 washing machine. In addition, the part was out of stock and would take 2 weeks arrive so we would be without a washing machine for that time.
After the repairman left I called Whirlpool and spoke to their off-shore customer service department. After a bit of heated (on my part) discussion they agreed to pay for any future labour costs to repair the washing machine but would not pay the initial $143 charge or for the $300 motor. I asked to speak to someone in management and was told that someone would call me back. No one ever did.
In the end we bought a new washing machine. I will never buy another Whirlpool appliance. Nothing. This is a terrible machine. Unreliable. Loud. Expensive to repair. Poor service.

Terrible – I paid over $1000 for this machine. It was not top of the line by any means, but more expensive than some other machines. I wish I had looked at this site before buying. It is fairly water… Read more
efficient and the clothes come out fairly clean, although the towels etc come out quite hard which indicates it doesn't rinse well. It does have a quick wash cycle which is handy. It is very poorly designed. The drum allows small items (such as children's socks, and even once a face cloth) to travel with the water out of the drum itself and they get clogged in the filter. The first time it happened, we got a technician out as the trouble shooting from the manual did not work. He showed us how to completely remove the filter to clear it. I would estimate that this has happened at least 10 times in the 2 years since we have had the machine. It is a real pain to clear the filter as you have to pull the machine out and tip it up and get in underneith it.
The cotton cycles take hours and hours. Some nights, when washing cotton with a prewash, I have put the machine on before bed and it is still going in the morning.
The quick wash cycle is not very effective. It barely wets the clothes and certainly doesn't clean even lightly soiled items.
I am just giving an update on this machine (which is now 4 years old). The 'clean filter' continued… Read more
OK – overall i dont mind this washing machine compared to my last washing machine that was a top loader and kept stopping, im glad this one cant do that, it is a little noisy but i just close the laundry door, so far no issues with it and we have had it for a year now i quite like this washing machine, it is water efficient, cleans clothes quite well,… Read more
i also received a 2 year supplty of washing powder with it via redemption, so far no issues with it it is quite noisy especially during the start and end, scares our cats, also sometimes leaves white powder marks on clothes but that could maybe be because i am using too much powder, not sure
Terrible – We bought our new whirlpool (On sale) and was advised that it was an excellent product. advised. My Advise... Don't buy anything Whirlpool. Cheap JUNK!!! Your really do get what you pay for... nothing at all... Customer Service from Whirlpool is pretty much non existent. Bad – I have always had Whirlpool Washing machines, but this one has the be the worst one I have purchased by far. balanced. I have also tried both adding and removing garmets to see if this helps and it doesn't so have had to wring machine load by hand. This machine also does not like just a few items in it either such as washing a few jumpers by themselves. Recently I am having another problem with it once it is on spin cycle that it won't turn off automatically and I have to do it manually and machine is very hot to touch. I have contacted the service centre a few times and have not had a straight answer from them as to why this is happening.
My older models also seemed to have more useful features such as a half load option and a cold water one which delicates require. The coolest one this has is 30 degrees.
The Handwash cycle is also a waste of time. It spins one revolution every minute and then sits there. I can do a better job handwashing myself.
I really regret buying this machine and tried to return it after a few weeks of owning it, but was refused by store purchased from just beacuse I was far from happy with it. I will never buy Whirlpool again and don't recommend the newer models to anyone. The older models with the dial are terrific, these new ones leave alot to be desired. Is easy on your clothes and has a good sized tub It often does not want to go on spin cycle. I am now having the problem where once on spin cycle it won't turn off by itself and gets stuck. This machine also does not have a cold water or half load option unlike previous models.
Terrible – Has been problematic since the word go. Couldn't believe how noisy it was when we turned it on the first time. Stalls during washes, lights flash, go out come on again and then starts up again. Doesn't spin some washes. Suds have come out with all amounts of premium wash powder used. It's the Russian Roulette of washing machines! DO NOT BUY IT noise, suds over flow, even with premium powders, stalls on rinse and spin.
Terrible – Very average product, cycles can't be altered other than to select a certain cycle (eg can't shorten a cycle if required), with no support from manufacturer. Very disappointing. Miserly with water use. Purchased new. Arrived with a water inlet pipe missing! Now 18 months old & controller board has failed so won't spin at all, and only washes… Read more
