Great paint – I’ve been using white knight enamels for years in a variety of applications. Epoxy enamel is awesome. I just finished the tray on my hilux with Cold Gal, True Bite primer and epoxy enamel. I thinned with penetrol. Awesome. Tough as nails and great way to keep rust at bay. Forget the negativity here. They obviously don’t know how to paint. Most of… Read more · 1
your work should be in preparation of the surface, and sanding and cleaning between each coat. That way you’ll get good results. If you don’t the paint will peel and doesn’t matter what paint you use.
Do not use save your money – Worked well on the first coat light sand was then wax and grease removed and hazed and cracked on the second coat these complaints have been the same for years yet the same generic response from the company. Show details
CANNOT FAULT THIS PRODUCT – I haver been using this paint on and off for years. It has always given me the result I was after......good high quality finish. Note: When using this paint, DON'T cut corners. Prepare your surface properly and follow instructions to the letter. Sometimes the surface prep may take a bit longer but if you want a perfect result you have to do the PREP STEPS. Show details · 1
Good value – Totally agree with Spike. Great product and surprised to see the other reviews. Had painted double garage doors with the blue and it was time to change to black with this product. Doors were in good shape just needed a good clean. Did it with sugar soap and a dustpan brush then hosed down. 2 coats sprayed on easily and looks great. Show details · 1
Poor quality enamel paint, save your money and choose another brand – I’ve spent over $150 on rust guard spray paint, brush paint and primer. I followed the instructions it was new galvanised iron witch was cleaned, lightly sanded and primed. After 24 hours the paint is just peeling off. Here’s the thing I thought I made a mistake the first time it happened. So I cleaned it all up and started again and got same result Show details

great product – Starting to do a few reviews for stuff I love that gets what what I feel are unfounded negative review when I have had a dream run with it - I think sometimes people have substrate issues etc and slam the topcoat. In short - love this paint, started using it to spray misc. metal parts for machinery, then some motorbike bits, caravan chassis… Read more · 1
etc. It lays down flat, it sprays so well that even I can shoot a decent coat with it - it is just so user friendly. Simple to touch up and buff any damage. Good weathering and UV stability.
Just recently had to coat a tow bar with POR-15 and needed a simple UV protectant coat so I got an old tin of this out, scuffed the por with 400 grit and shot a fat coat of this over it and it looked better than the original finish.
Prep is key, scuff with 400-600, clean surface with a non residual like metho, stir (dont shake) and I found to shoot a light coat (from a dodgy sca suction feed gun - I dont even bother dirtying up my hvlp gun) and then when you finish has flashed off go back and lay a decent top coat down. Resist the urge to wipe a run (got one on the latest job as gun was misbehaving) as paint flattens really well - wait a few days then scuff the run back and throw some paint over the reworked area. Dont go crazy thick - sensible coating dft is far stronger and will dry quicker, can always come back and throw some on any thin spots etc.
Good lustre off the gun, no colour sanding or buffing - love it. Van chassis/a frame sits it full sun/rain uncovered and still has glossy finish (only hit it with a scotch bright, phosphoric acid and buffwhedl on rust spots, and final wipe down with metho then shot it with this paint out in the open and left it. I praise this paint to anyone who asks.
Turps clean up is cheap and easy, clean the gun out straight away as this stuff will thicken and cause dramas - nozzle out into rinsed/wiped clean pot, blast clean turps through the gun, blast clean air through it to finish. Not too bad to get off your skin with turps and far less toxic then some of the products available overall.
Tech help line wasnt really helpful as I wpuld have hoped (overly risk adverse/read from a hymn sheet..) so do dome homework if painting over any existing coatings you are not sure of.
High quality, durable and repeatable finish for fair price - White knight/ppg take a bow.
Excellent quality paint – I first used this epoxy enamel (flat black, gloss black and flat white) in the tin not rattle can, September 2016, and last used it today (August 2023). I've coated dirtbike engine covers and clutch covers etc (cast alloy) using the sls primer first, and bike frames, kids swing set, gates, and other miscellaneous items (steel) with no primer. also painted a whole '80s Ford F250 with no primer in 2021. (first lockdown in VIC) Finish on all items is exceptional, still, after so many years of abuse, and outdoor storage, especially for the price and having been sprayed in the yard. I don't generally review products, but, the only folks that bother to review here are those who have had less than optimal results or just plain bad results, and I just wanted to give some balance so others can decide for themselves and not miss out on a quality product because of people who can't use it correctly. I could hazard a guess as to why their paint jobs have failed after seeing the pics and reading the reviews. There are tricks to achieve a great finish, you can't just bung it on like doing graffiti when you're pizzed. Follow the directions on the tin, PREP PROPERLY, 3-4 light coats, temps over 25° best. I'm no "expert in the panel industry" like some gooses, but pay attention to detail and take my time and pride in my work. Everyone who has commented on the finishes thinks it was done in a shop or the factory. Some have even been mistaken for powdercoat! Awesome, durable, tough product. Will continue using it and would recommend to anyone.

Absolute Garbage – Painted a brand new car trailer build with this sub standard paint, it lasted just over a month before cracking, peeling and flaking off, is now 6 months and what's left of the paint has faded to dull finish with large areas of peeling paint, the trailer was primed and prepped as I work in the panel industry, if I could give a minus 5 stars it… Read more
would still not be low enough for this garbage, Its funny how their warranty specifically states it will not cover any paint that is cracking, peeling and flaking off, ( its like they already knew ). I now have to disassemble the trailer and have it sand blasted to remove this Garbage and have it painted with a decent quality paint, It will not be any PPG product, I will now steer well clear of any product related to them.

This stuff reacts to its self on second coat – Picked this up from Bunnings along with the same brand etch primer and esp prep wash to paint the hull of my tinny, raw aluminium. The etch primer went on well, I waited the 6h as recommended by the Bunnings bloke, gave it a light sand and light rub over with a clean rag and prep wash, then applied the first coat of Epoxy Enamel tinted to… Read more
monument, It looked magic. I lightly sanded, prep washed and applied the second coat and it looks like rubbish, crows feet all over the bottom of the boat how do I fix this?

The aluminium gloss finish is not gloss – Used the rust guard epoxy enamel in aluminium gloss finish Very disappointed it is not a gloss , is very dull Waste of money Big big waste of money and false advertising on the gloss part Show details

No Dramas – I found the paint good, with only one spot making a finger print type mark. Sprayed directly over etch primer..light mist coat at first and two after that. Applied two more coats that afternoon..Used both the red and aluminium colour..The old " Hibiscus Clothes Line " looks brilliant. Show details

Garbage – I used this on a Quintrex boat after a multiple hole repair. The client I was doing the repair for was recommended that this paint was a colour match which it is. However this product reacts to itself on the second coat. I followed all instructions on the label. It was back to bare aluminium after the welding job was finished. Meticulously… Read more
cleaned and prepped with wax and grease remover. First coat no problem. Second coat as per pic. Had client turn up on delivery date to an absolute mess. Do not buy this product!!!!

Terrible – Wanted to respray a vintage bicycle, tried White Knight, not cheap either, so thought it would be good, but it kept bubbling, getting craze marks despite meticulous preparation, absolute rubbish, bought another tin, same bad results! Then used Wattyl killrust & perfect finish! Will never use White Knight again Show details

Know better, choose better.
Very difficult to use and poor finish – I think the information on the can is misleading and inconsistent. It says "Easy one step application that transforms rust into a professional long lasting colour finish. No primer required for new or lightly rusted ferrous metals (steel or wrought iron". The preparation directions say "Sand ... previously painted … surfaces thoroughly. Prime… Read more
galvanised iron, ZINCALUME and non ferrous metals …. In severe conditions, or for added protection to steel and wrought iron, prime with Rust Guard Metal Primer". I judged a steel trailer frame, mudguards and wheels wouldn't be used in 'severe conditions' (in suburban Melbourne) or to need 'added protection'. I wire brushed and sanded back the previously painted surfaces to bare metal (as far as possible) and applied rust converter where appropriate. I wasn't sure about using primer, but I used Dulux Metalshield All Surface Primer on the trailer frame and the galvanised (originally, many years ago) steel mudguards. I did not apply primer to the wheel rims. I used a new fine bristle paint brush. The paint wouldn't apply evenly on either the primed or the unprimed surfaces, although it was worst on the unprimed surfaces. The paint took ages to dry, and the runs that seemed impossible to avoid didn't dry completely and I had to use a sharp chisel to slice off the top layer down to a surface that was level with the rest of the paint (very difficult on wheel rims). Even after three coats, the finish is not the uniform, solid colour I expected, and I am extremely disappointed. My guess is that primer may have helped a little with the wheel rims, in which case it is not a 'one step' application (and I didn't find it easy). I'm not betting that I'll get the guaranteed 5 years protection from the coating.
Thin with poor coverage – Used numerous touch up epoxy enamels over the years. Went to bunnings who obviously supply this product as a cheaper alternative to better products. You get what you pay for! Very poor covergage with watery paint. By the time time you get any depth of coverage you start running into sag issues. Numerous thin coats produces an average job… Read more
but it is time consuming. Touch dry in 6 - 8 hours.......are you kidding? With paint is thin it should be touch dry in an hour.
