Working well now, but I was too daunted by the info re downloading QR codes, logging in, registering, etc to even turn it on for a week. Smart people might like this trash, but oldies can't cope! Show details

My Ambassador review of the Winix Compact 360 5 stage air purifier I received this product in exchange for a review. So I have never had an air purifier before and I think its hard to write about as it isn’t something visible to see and react to, however, here we go.. We felt this would be ideal, particularly as our son suffers from hay-fever,… Read more
pollens and other airborne pollutants, and to this I think it helped when we had it in his room.
I like that it is, indeed, compact, and is also nicely designed and can fit in any space in the home. Size wise though its probably meant for bedrooms and the like. Its compact and light, so its easy to manoeuvre around the home and place it in the desired room.
The unit was well packed and came with the main unit, a quick start guide, a user manual, a preinstalled filter and a pet filter that you wrap around the main filter, using this pet filter makes it ' 5 stage' filtration.
The only thing to really make sure of is to remove all packing material, plastic coverings etc and install the filter assembly the correct side up, otherwise it wont be able to take the air in and expel it out the top of the unit.
The unit also has WIFI functionality and an App, which is compatible with Google and Alexa voice assistants. This was super was to setup and pair and get running, this matched well with the manual touch controls on the top of the unit.
The WINIX app can be a little slow to open as it sits on the splash page for a bit, but otherwise its very intuitive and works very well, I especially like the main page it opens to and the quick links to various controls and information and the ‘Schedule settings’ as I can create as many schedules as I liked and have it turn on and off at various times with each schedule being different for weekdays, weekends and then other ad-hoc times when we know we will be out.
I haven’t had any issues with popups requesting marketing or other consents, maybe 2 or 3, but certainly not overly intrusive.
The unit is relatively quiet on low or medium, but it is quite noticeable when on high. I can either manually control the speed or have the unit itself self-adjust to the environment and it will speed up and down as needed. There is also a colour ring to let you know what its doing, going from Blue, Orange, Red depending on the air quality its sensing and the speed of the fan.
The unit does create an airflow in the home which you can physically feel and goes to show it does move a large amount of air through the filter. We have pulled the main filter out and vacuumed it clean.
Overall, it seems to do the job its meant to do and do it well.
Quite new to air purifiers. I have seen them in use in commercial settings. I was excited to have the opportunity to review for product review as I had been considering one for a while. It's very easy to use, out of the box you unwrap the filter and optional, fit a extra layer for pet dander to extend the life of the main filter. Plug it in a… Read more
turn on and that's it. It has 3 colours to highlight the air quality. Blue = good quality air Yellow/amber = fair/poor quality air Red = bad/very poor quality air
I've had it for 5-6 weeks and mainly use in sleep mode in my bedroom. But when used though the day I use on auto and I see it go between blue and yellow. Red came up once when it was picking up cooking smells. It doesn't fully take away odours but reduces them more then I was expecting. Don't know if it's reducing the dust in my room yet but I will know soon enough as I do live in a house and area that gets dusty. I don't expect miracles but hopefully improvements. Especially at the moment as I'm starting to use fans as it's warming up and they spread dust everywhere. I do believe I'm sneezing less since receiving it.
I have linked it to the app which details the air quality and filter life. You can also control the unit from your device which is nice. There are other features in the app I'm yet to use but for now it's good to see the air quality details.
Don't really have much negative to say about it. It is a touch noisier even on silent/sleep mode then one of ones in the commercial setting. But it's not a much negative because it still pretty quiet.
Overall I see their benefits and glad to have one. I will consider a bigger one if I feel the need in the future for the main living zones.

This is probably the hardest review I have ever done as it is difficult to assess how well an air purifier is working without sophisticated air quality test equipment. I do believe this unit is very good. It arrived at a good time of the year as… Read more
the pollen count in the Central West of NSW where I live is high at this time of year and I suffer as a result.
The Air Purifier was delivered by Australia Post just in the box as it is sold in. The packing is more than adequate and I was pleased to see the packing was a type of paper mache rather than the often more usual virtually non recyclable polystyrene.
The first thing I did was to take the air purifier out of the box, undo the bottom and remove the filter taking it out of the plastic bag, then fitting the pet filter. It was very easy to fit the pet filter around the main filter. After that I refitted the filter into the body of the unit, plugging it into a power point and turning it on.
The Air Purifier is very stylish and well made. Far nicer looking than the air purifier it replaces.
I did have some trouble logging onto the App as I live in a very poor mobile service area. Once I had downloaded the App, the operation of the Air Purifier was logical and very easy. I would like to comment that if you don't want to use your mobile phone to control the Air Purifier, the control buttons on the top the unit are hard to see.
The standby wattage is only about 2 watts, increasing to about 13 watts on low where it is usually when in operation in my bedroom. It is slightly less on sleep mode. On the highest setting the power consumption went up to approximately 48 watts, a little less than the 55 watts specified.
While operation the noise level was low on the lowest setting, barely higher than ambient in a quiet room, on the high setting it generated considerable fan noise, I measured 57dB at one metre, that could be worrying for people trying to sleep. I think they would need to take other measures to reduce whatever is causing the air purifier to work that hard.
Subjectively the air purifier was very good with the air in the bedroom where the filter was used, it certainly feels fresher than other parts of the house and I am less likely to sneeze when in the room.
I do feel that the recommended monthly replacement of the pet filter is a little unnecessary unless there was a dog in the house that sheds an awful lot. I have a King Charles Cavalier and he does not shed a lot, except when I brush him. The pet filters are quite expensive. I think the requirement to change the main filter just once a year is very good.
The technology of the filter is pretty standard except the PlasmaWave of which I don't really understand, although the manufactures claim it is a great feature with scientific backing.
Overall I consider the WINIX 360 Compact 5-Stage Air Purifier a very good choice for a small room such as a bedroom.
Follow-up · I initally had trouble setting the Winix app to work on my iPhone as I live in a mobile phone Black Spot and the app did not like my WiFi. It is now running well and is very easy to use. I have read about the technical advantages of PlasmaWave and that is very impresive, unfortunatly without air quality monitoring equipment I can't really tell… Read more
This Winix air purifier is easy to use, but I did not perceive any benefits to the air quality. Set up. The instructions were easy to follow, and everything seemed simple, but the filter cover at the bottom of the unit was surprisingly difficult to remove the first time, and then the sticky tape covering on the pet filter was fiddly to remove.… Read more
Apart from these niggles, the set up was easy.
Placement. I found it difficult to find a suitable place to position the air purifier, partly because of the size of the unit, and also because the instructions dictate that it should be a certain distance from walls, modems and other equipment.
The app. Downloading the app was easy, and the instructions were clear, but connecting the app the first time was a little glitchy. Once the inital connection had been made, it was simple to use and always stayed connected. However, I fail to understand the purpose of the app. The buttons on the unit itself are simple and easy; the app did not add any functionality, and nor should it! The unit should be operable without an app - and it is - so the app simply cluttered up the home screen on my phone.
Operation. The air purifier is simple to run, the buttons are easy to use and the unit is fairly quiet. The sound that is emitted is pleasant in tone, and not at all intrusive. There is an option to run it on low, medium or high, but the automatic setting is probably best, where the unit detects any change in the air quality and ramps operation up or down. The light on the button panel is colour-coded to indicate the setting. The night mode appears to be useful, as it lowers the setting to slower and quieter than the lowest daytime setting, and turns off most of the lights except one. That one light, however, is aggravating during the night, so I had to cover the top panel to stop the light from keeping me awake.
Value. I received this air purifier as part of the ambassador program, but I would not be prepared to buy it at the price it is sold for. Additionally, the replacement filters are expensive, especially given how simple they are.
Performance. I did not perceive any benefit from running this air purifier. I do have allergies, and I like to have a lot of ventilation in my house. Perhaps in a house that is more closed up, there would be a more obvious gain. Despite there being a dog in the house, I did not perceive any change to the presence of dust or any other particles. After running the unit for a few weeks, I opened it up to inspect the filters, but there was nothing there! No dust, dog hair or anything else had been caught in the filters, or at least nothing was visible.
Overall: • Pleasant-looking. • Well-constructed. • Easy to set up. • Easy to use. • Quiet. • App easy to operate, but unnecessary. • Expensive purchase price. • Expensive to maintain (replacement filters). • No perceptible difference in the air quality in my home, although this might be different in a more closed-up house.
Following my son purchasing a 3D printer and finding out these 3D printers (allegedly) produce unhealthy microplastics we considered buying an air purifier. Coincidentally Product review sent me an e-mail in the same week asking if I was interested in reviewing the Winix Compact 360 degrees air purifier for the ambassador program. heaven (or on the internet) it seemed, so I gladly accepted their generous offer and received the air purifier a few weeks later. The review below details our findings to date.
THE GOOD The air purifier is very easy to assemble, just put the filter in and "off you go" so that was good. It's also incredibly easy to use. Once it's switched on, just press the "Automatic" button and you never need to do anything again (well until the filter needs cleaning / replacing that is). There are switches to increase the intensity / speed but if set to "Automatic" the purifier will decide that all on its own. There is a ring on the top that lights up either blue (good quality air) orange (medium quality air) and red (not great quality air). When it's on you see it occasionally moving from one to the other and back and hear the fan increasing (or decreasing) in speed. Simple to understand and use. The purifier has a night setting too which makes it quiet.
There is also an app which is again very easy to set-up and very simple to use (it basically mimics the controls on the air purifier) although the necessity of an app for an air purifier escapes me. Typically when you "need" an air purifier in a room I'd imagine that is because you're there as well (what do you otherwise need the air purifier for, I'm pretty confident our fridge and sofa don't care too much about clean air), this feels like a remote for a ceiling light. But I guess these days everything seems to have an app, our fridge has an app and so have our dryer and washing machine...... it's as useful as an inflatable dartboard but at least it's easy to use (and more importantly: easy to remove from your phone).
While it is not a small item, I like the look of it. It's very clean and looks like a fairly fancy Speaker such as a SONOS speaker. Not unimportant if you have this in your living room.
THE BAD There are not a lot of bad things, when it is cleaning the air at full throttle it gets a bit loud and while it all seems to work well and be fairly well made, I think the price is quite steep for something that is a really a glorified fan with a filter and some smarts. While I probably would have ended up buying an air purifier, I am certain that I wouldn't have spent this sort of money (but then again, we also don't need it all that often, I'm sure the situation would be different if you have severe allergies and this filter removes the allergens from the air then this might be a pretty sweet air purifier).
THE UGLY There a few things that I do not quite get and there's bit of a consideration about how well it works. I mentioned the app but that's hardly an issue as you can just not use it (I can really recommend that!). There is also a "plasma wave" setting, I have no idea what that does or why. We don't notice any difference in the operation.
What we do notice when my son is 3d printing is that we see the indicator lights changing from blue to orange and back occasionally but it's quite random and seems to not relate to the 3D printer operating or not (it also does it when he's not printing). Perhaps the microplastics are produced at such a low level that it's not recognized by the air purifier or there's some delay in the printer working and any contaminants reaching the air purifier (or it's all nonsense and they're no problem at all...... I'm not sure what to believe anymore these days). We did notice when it's placed next to a stove when operational the indicator ring does change colour....... and then it starts blowing faster for a bit but I cannot say I notice anything else, it's not that smells go away all of a sudden.
I'm keen to try this air purifier during bushfire season or when we've mowed the lawns (I am allergic to grass so would be able to pick up quite quickly whether this makes a difference or not). Until then we will just keep on using it when 3D printing and see how we go.
Ambassador Review: Compact unit, runs quietly in Low mode, the companion app is useful, touch controls are responsive, night mode is good for turning off the lights on the unit, auto mode self-adjusts based on monitoring of air quality, has a filter life gauge, it’s well built and stylish. Cons: The wifi connection can be a bit flaky and sometimes… Read more
requires unplugging to get it to reconnect. Fan noise is more intrusive in Med and very loud in High. The bottom section housing the filter is a bit difficult to remove as there’s nothing to grip onto to unscrew it.
Air filtering performance was difficult to gauge as the weather and air quality conditions haven’t been bad in the month I’ve been running it. Subjectively, while I’ve been running it in my bedroom overnight I’ve feel that I’ve not experienced as much hayfever. Having a night mode is very useful as it turns off the lights on the top panel of the unit - there are very bright in a dark room. The app has a Schedule feature although I did not utilise it. The app does constantly prompt you to accept marketing updates which is really annoying.
I’ve been using the Winix T500 air purifier for a couple of weeks now and overall, it’s been running reliably and doing a solid job improving air quality in my home. I mainly keep it on Auto mode and it automatically adjusts the fan speed whenever it detects pollutants, which is extremely convenient. With construction happening right across from… Read more
my house (creating plenty of dust and dirt), I’ve noticed I’m sneezing far less after about two weeks of use — a clear sign that it’s doing its job well.
At night, the Night Mode is a great feature as it dims the blue light so it doesn’t illuminate the room while sleeping, making it suitable for bedrooms. It's redundant for me as it stays in our living room but a great feature nonetheless.
Setup was very straightforward. The controls are easy to read and understand, so it was essentially plug and play. The app is simple and user-friendly, although I haven’t used it extensively since I leave the unit running all the time. One standout feature is the filter life indicator, which lets you know when it’s time for a replacement — very handy and removes the guesswork.
The unit is small and compact, which is great for fitting into tighter spaces. However, one downside is that it’s difficult to carry as there’s no handle or proper grip, making it awkward to move around.
When I received the unit, opening the bottom cover was quite frustrating due to the lack of grip points. It took several minutes to finally open it. Adding the pet filter was also tricky — the two-way tape was difficult to remove and there should really be a tab to help users peel it off. All up, it took around 6–8 minutes just to open the base and install the pet filter, which could have been a much smoother experience.
Despite a few design inconveniences during setup and movement, the Winix T500 performs well where it matters most — improving air quality. If Winix addressed the minor usability issues, this would be an excellent all-round air purifier.

The Winx Compact 360 gets its 5-stage name from the following: 1) A pre-filter, 2) A pet filter (you wrap that around the main filter, once a month) 3) A True HEPA filter, 4) Activated carbon filter, and 5) PlasmaWave® technology Winix claim that their PlasmaWave® technology creates a short electrical discharge to create dual polarity ions… Read more
from air moisture, which neutralises viruses, bacteria, odours and VOCs (chemical vapours and harmful gases). It should be noted that this process can produce ozone, which can be harmful to humans, however, Winix state their PlasmaWave tech does not produce harmful levels of ozone, with tests showing levels of around 3 parts per billion are produced, which is ~16x below the 50 ppb safety limit. It's hard to tell if PlasmaWave as improved my air quality or not. But it’s a nice feature to have.
Setup was very quick and easy, and I had the unit up and running in a few minutes. The 5-stage claim does seem like a bit of marketing, as the 5-stage is a replaceable thin pet filter that wrap around the main filter unit approximately once a month. I was a bit skeptial of this, but when I went to change it after a month, the pet filter was clearly very dirty with red/brown dust from the sanding of our floors. Impressively the underlying filter seemed relatively clean, and I immediately saw the benefit to having the ability to easily replace the outer pet layer. I suspect this will help extend the life of the main filter, and may help get you a few more than 12-months between replacements. On that, the main filter is the same 4-stage filter sold for the Winix Compact 4 Air Purifier. It retails from ~$99, and you can find them at Officeworks, which is handy. But the cost does seem a tad high, hence those pet filters might just help reduce the costs a bit by extending the life span.
There is also an [optional] smart app. Which is nicely laid out and easy to use. To connect to your home Wi-Fi, it has a chat bot like guide, which was a little unusual but worked fine. I had no issues connecting, just make sure you connect to a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network. What, I didn’t like about the app, was every time I opened it, I was nagged with multiple pop-ups requesting I give consent for marketing updates. I clicked no for a reason, and didn’t enjoy having to repeatedly say no. There also doesn’t appear to be anyway to stop it from bugging you about this, which is annoying, and makes me question what data Winix are collecting of mine and what they are doing with it. I should note that the App states that it does not collect data, but the spammy ad pushing does make it seem desperate. Once in the app, you have a nice simple home screen that displays the current air quality and filter life. You can also set schedules, control the unit, change device settings, and track the long-term changes in air quality (AQI history). This is nice to have but, as a scientist, I found the graph smoothing to be way to excessive, resulting in data being hidden by the flattening to the mean. For example, I know that while cooking, AQI spikes to poor and the fan runs on high (auto mode), but when you go and look at the graph, the excessive smoothing has averaged everything out and you never see those high peaks. Consequently, my air quality is essentially a flat line. For those on Google Home or Alexa, there is the option to add voice control ability, but there is no luck for Apple HomeKit users, nor is the device Matter compatible, which is a little disappointing.
Overall, I’ve been impressed with the easy of the Winix unit, its small enough to not take up excessive amounts of space, yet large enough for most family rooms. The automatic mode is great and lets the fan run independently most of the time.
Good: - Automatic air quality sensing and fan adjustment - Pet filter provides a quick and easy way to clean and refresh the filter every month or so. - Connected app is nice (for the most part). - Quiet, efficient and reasonably small.
Bad: - Filter replacement costs are a little pricey - App constantly requesting consent for Marketing updates - Air quality history aggressive data smoothing - No Apple HomeKit or Matter support
I recently purchased another excellent compact air purifier from Winix AusClimate. This is a newer version, and I already own three units of the previous model, the Compact 4 Stage Air Purifier. Please excuse the excess cords and power boards displayed in the videos, I have set up the unit between my entertainment unit and my gaming consoles, an area that is notorious for dust build up and it’s where I watch most of my movies. week, I turn it off before I go to bed and a scheduled time of 8:30am every morning turns it on automatically. Below are the pros and cons
Pros: easy set up, connect to WIFI and you’re set. Scheduled a time for the unit to turn on or select a particular day of week, the app is easy to use and everything you need is at your finger tips, you can even check your filter status. It takes the guess work out. The unit can be set to auto, which I prefer, or control each of the settings from your phone manually. The unit is very sensitive, on medium power it is reasonable quiet, still was able to watch a good movie without being disturbed by a loud fan noise, even on the highest setting when it detects a change in air quality is still bearable. I must say I was quite surprised with the sensitivity, it picks up the smallest of particles and automatically goes to work. During the beginning of spring I always notice a change in the air quality, sneezing, irritated watery eyes and while my symptoms have never been severe I have noticed a difference since using this unit, I rarely end up in a sneezing fit so to speak. Very impressed.
Cons: the unit only has a scheduled on feature, I have to ensure to turn it off, personally I would prefer to also have a scheduled off feature, I tried to find somewhere to turn it off automatically but I found this feature was not accessible or not available. The sleep setting only turns off the display at the top, it basically turns off the ambient light it omits. I assumed it would be in a lower setting, a little more quieter, but it basically just keeps it on a default setting preventing it from increasing to medium and high fan speeds, the sound on omitting from the low setting would definitely keep me awake. The pre-filter, to me, is just an added feature, I don’t believe it needs to be wrapped around a HEPA filter for added protection. This option is just a thin cotton sleeve you wrap around the filter, it may serve its purpose for some but for me it has not made any significant change.
My review does not mean I dislike this air purifier, it’s amazing. My honest review is how I feel about the overall design and features
If you’re planning on purchasing one of these products I highly recommend them. Winix have done their best to accommodate for each and everyone’s needs from their compact units to larger sizes for larger areas. Definitely worth the price
The instructions for installing the filter and incorrect. They talk about attaching the filter from top to bottom however filter unit is cylindrical so doesn't have a top of bottom that could possibly fit the filter. What the instructions should have said is: 1. Remove filter paper from wrapper. 2. Remove tape backing from both ends of filter… Read more
paper. 3. Wrap filter AROUND the drum, attaching the two ends of the filter paper together with the tape. 4. Place filter unit back into the base of the purifier. 5. Close bottom section.
Simple right? Yet sadly we got very poorly translated Chinese > English instructions. No surprises there in my experience for a Chinese product though.
Another serious concern I had was the smell of fire retardent chemicals emitted from the unit when it was first turned on. This chemical smell is unmistakable to me as I work on new computers regularly and I am very familiar with the smell of those chemicals offgassing from new machines. So I had to put the unit somewhere away from us all for several DAYS to let the smell decrease to acceptable levels before we even set it up in a room for actual use.
The purifier itself is LOUD. Even on the night time setting it is too loud. The average decibel rating on the low setting was 40dB. On night time it's 36dB. So 4dB difference. That's it. It's noisy. It really should have a silent running setting for night time; and then I'd probably run it on that setting permanently as it's too loud for me. Put it on high and it's like a jet taking off!
Does it purify the air? No idea! We ran it for days and could sometimes tell it was working but otherwise we had zero indication of whether it was doing a good job or not. I tried a few tests such as vacuuming prior to stripping two beds and leaving it in the room to filter any dust and hairs that may have been liberated but was disappointed to still discover dust, hair and dander around the floor afterwards. Cooking smells lingered even with it on. We did notice the smell of flowers was somewhat reduced with it running in our lounge.
One other thing that was a concern was the dryness of the air. The unit seemed to suck all moisture out of the air so my daughter ended up having quite a sore and dry mouth after having it running for several days overnight. However, on the previous night she had slept better and had not been quite so sniffly so it's a bit of a weird one. Does it work or doesn't it? Unsure.
Due to security concerns with Chinese "smart" products and their accompanying apps, I didn't try the Google Home app integration.
After 12 months of renovations, the 'airshed' within our house needed a good clean up. The Winix Compact Air Purifier has been ideal for this. Whilst I have not had the chance to inspect the filter yet (the app informs me there is still 93% capacity left), I have noticed cleaner air in the house, especially one particular bedroom that can… Read more
smell/feel a little musty at times.
The unit was very easy to set up and get going - the benefits of clear instructions and a phone app that 'shock horror' is easy to set-up, use and understand - one of the better home appliance-related apps I've used! So within a few minutes of unboxing I was ready to go. It has good wi-fi connectivity, but I'd say it's on the weak side and it loses range where other devices in our household do not. The colour coding (blue/orange/red) is a smart idea - instantly giving you an understanding if the air is not great. My wife and I ran a few experiments to test it, and she walked past it with freshly sprayed hair spray in, and the unit within seconds went from blue to orange. Also I emptied the vacuum 2metres from the unit in the kitchen and within a few seconds it had moved to orange - indicating it was indeed identifying and filtering out impurities. And often when moving it to a new room, it will move to orange for a half hour or so, before moving back to blue - indicating it was and had 'done the job'.
The unit is easy to use in terms of either selecting 'auto' or 1 of 3 speeds, and is no noisier than a small desk fan. The unit is lightweight, but feels solid enough and well assembled. As well as one main filter cartridge, the unit came with a series of 'pet hair' sleeves too that are optional to put over the filter if you wish, to catch any larger airborne material such as pet hair.
I would give this a 5 star rating, but for its weak(ish) wi-fi strength, and the app, which whilst very good as I said above, the AQI graph does not show 'day by day' results, only for that actual day, so I can't compare each day (I typically move it to a different room each day), and the weekly data are useless really, when averaged on the graph. So maybe, let's call it 4.5 stars. A good reliable unobtrusive unit that comes well recommended.
Find out how Winix Compact 360° 5-Stage T500(AU) compares to other Air Purifiers
Know better, choose better.
I was actually expecting this air purifier to be good, and thankfully it completely lived up to the hype. The Compact 360° 5-Stage Smart Air Purifier has been running in our house for a few weeks now and honestly, I can’t fault it. picks up is unbelievable. You can literally see the difference when you check the filter it’s both satisfying and a bit disgusting at the same time.
It’s super quiet, which I appreciate because we keep it right near where the dog sleeps in our bedroom and let’s just say, she’s not known for her “fresh air contributions.” I haven’t been woken up by any suspicious odours since we got it, so that alone makes it worth every cent. The pet filter layer is genius too. I love that it can be taken out and replaced easily because between the dog hair and the general chaos of living near a busy road, it definitely gets a workout.
I’ve owned a few purifiers before, but the filters never seemed to last long and cost well over $100 to replace. This one’s been holding up much better, and you can tell it’s genuinely doing its job. The 360° air intake means it cleans the whole room evenly, and the smart features are actually useful not just gimmicks. I’ve connected it to the app so I can see the air quality levels drop in real time, which makes me feel like a bit of a mad scientist, but I’ll take it.
Overall, it’s just a really solid unit that quietly gets on with making the air cleaner and fresher. Between the quiet operation, longer-lasting filter, and the fact that it’s saving me from dog farts at 2am, I consider it a health saver.
This product comes highly recommended by me. The guy getting more sleep and breathing fresher air.

Downloading the Winix Smart app was easy to do, the hard part was remembering my wifi password so I could connect the appliance but once connected its very easy to set up a schedule so it switches on and off at a set time with specific settings (NB. You actually need to schedule it to turn off - it doesn't do it automatically). I have mine set to turn on at 8pm and off at 7am - its ridiculously easy to do and really straight forward. You also need to download the app to change the device settings - i.e. put it in sleep mode, hook it up to Alexa or Google etc. Regarding noise levels, it ranges from loud to pretty loud, and then there is sleep mode. I'm actually impressed with the quietness of this air purifier when in sleep mode. Once its in sleep mode, the noise drops to a whisper, the blue lights of the display are dimmed so they no longer light up the bedroom like daylight. I literally have it right next to the head of the bed and I don't hear it when in sleep mode. It also works really well at clearing out cooking and pet smells - usually within 30 minutes the smell is gone and the air is fresher. If I've been exceptionally creative in the kitchen and managed to smoke the place up, it can take a bit longer to clear but is still incredibly efficient and effective. The unit itself is alot larger than I thought it would be, its a smidge bigger than the size of the average office rubbish bin that you'd find under your work desk. Its lightweight, easy to move around, comes with a long cord which is pretty handy so you don't necessarily need to unplug it to move it. To change the filter you unplug the unit, tip it upside down, unscrew the bottom and pull out the filter then put the new one in. Very easily done. The pet filter is a strip of cloth that wraps around the hepa filter and is attached with a strip of tape. The hepa filter is estimated to last about 12 months (depending upon the pollution levels and usage etc), a replacement filter costs around $80-100 which I personally think is a bit steep. I would have thought $30-50 at most given similar brands have a filter that lasts up to 5 years and costs substantially less. In respect of running costs, its barely noted on the electricity bill and Ive had it running 24/7 for the past month. As to air quality, I live on a main road with a bus stop out the front, struggle with hayfever and own pets, so I'm accustomed to always being stuffed up and having the fine dust one gets from main road traffic as well as pet dander that can easily clog and destroy a Dyson. Since using this air purifier, I've noticed a distinct difference in the air quality. I'm not waking up with a blocked nose and irritated sinuses, my headaches have receded, the pet dander has diminished and best of all that annoying fine dust isn't as noticable as it used to be (depends on whether the windows are open or not). I can breathe through my nose without fear of it clogging or having to sneeze! I'm also finding that I'm sleeping alot better at night due to the improved breathing and air quality. That alone makes this air purifier definitely one to consider!
Follow-up · So a few have asked about: Pet filter cleaning frequency - I just do it once a month even if the filter doesn't look like it needs cleaning. I could probably get away with doing it alot less frequently. Daily air quality changes - to be honest, I only notice air quality changes when I open the window. The air quality goes down when I do that. … Read more

Cons:
- Initial setup - No audible beep during setup – Minor quirk. "Next" buttons on app very difficult to press on mobile.
- Annual Filter Replacement Cost? – Genuine product cost approx $120–$180. Personally I feel this is a fair investment for proven health benefits so not ‘really’ a Con but some may feel this way - always use authentic Winix filters for best performance.

I received the Winix Compact 360° 5-Stage today 23/10/2025. First impressions on packaging, it’s pretty basic. I was expecting to have bubble wrap… Read more
besides the standard top and bottom cardboard packing inside the box.
The unit came with instructions on how to operate the air purifier. I do think that they need to put a warning label that states that the air filter inside has a plastic seal that needs to be removed before you start the unit. Good thing I checked.
The unit is easy enough to operate and has an app for both Android and iOS. It also has wifi to connect to your router at home. It is pretty handy having a wifi on the unit so you can use it anywhere in the house. With app you can see the air quality chart. You can also set the schedule if you only want it to turn on at certain times. However the app lacks the option to change the wifi settings. So once you setup the wifi connection at the start, you cannot change it. You will need to delete the unit from the app and start again if you want to change the wifi settings. The app has a glitch. When you want turn off the “Auto” setting the app doesn’t show that the auto is turned off. It will say on the app that it’s on “Manual”. Pressing the “Auto” again doesn’t change it to “Auto”. You actually need to press the “Auto” symbol on the unit to switch it back to auto mode.
In auto mode it is a fairly quiet unit. On low setting it is not too loud. On medium and high settings it is too loud for my liking.
The unit itself is about 220mm in diameter at the base and stands at 375mm. So it’s not small enough to put on any table you want.
It comes with 12 pet filters as well that gives you 1 filter per month. So good for 12 months.
Reading the instructions to turn on the wifi is okay but they need to state that you need to hold it down for 2 or 3 seconds before it will turn on. Simply just touching it will not turn it on. To turn it off is just a simple touch and it turns off the wifi.
I am an asthma sufferer so only time will tell if it helps with my asthma.
It’s the 2nd of November and I have been using the unit every single day.
The pros: its doesn’t have a big footprint, so it doesn’t take a lot of room (but can’t put it on an any table). Operating the unit with the app is always a plus! Ease of use and simplicity is a good thing.
The cons: the app has a bug like I mentioned. Turning off “Auto” mode doesn’t work and will need to be turned off at the unit. On max settings the unit is probably just a touch loud if you’re a light sleeper.
All in all the Winix Air Purifier is not bad at all. It does have the cons I mentioned. But I can’t say it’s a deal breaker.
Follow-up · Here’s an update. The auto to manual function on the app seems to working. But I’m not sure if the app still has a glitch. The HEPA filter according to the app needs replacement. But the unit is in one room that we really don’t spend our time in it. I sleep in that living room at night. And I turn the unit off when I go to work. So over a month… Read more
Follow-up · Another update. I just checked the app again and now the filter is at 95% after putting a new pet filter on. I’m not convinced the app is very accurate about the filter.
Winix Compact 5-Stage Air Purifier – Model T500 This is the Australian version of the well-known Winix room sized air-purifier; it’s compact compared with many models in use by some of my neighbours so I have included a shot showing the scale in relation to a human hand! With that in mind, I thought it would perhaps lack the grunt and… Read more
functionality of other units. But I have run it through some basic tests and am quite impressed with it on several levels. 1. Packing - There is ZERO polystyrene in the box and the wrapping is recyclable. The unit is protected by recycled, moulded forms keeping it snugly and safely in the box. 2. Size – this is perfect for our large living space (14 metres long with rooms & corridor adjoining) when set to high (three dots) but does well even on low (one dot) in a corner of the room which is the dustiest area near the (gasp!) venetian blinds. I ran a test in one of the smaller rooms (the laundry/powder-room) which, every morning, has a sheen of dust on it. There was none after leaving the Winix on overnight. See the photo below for a bedside table dust photo 'before' using the Winix. There was zero dust on that horizontal surface on the following morning after using the unit on lowest setting overnight. 3. I am not a fan of any electric motor noise, but the Winix 500T is extremely quiet and discreet unless on highest setting (and even that is acceptable). Or you can increase the intensity to 3 dots on the control panel when you leave the room as the process is straightforward. Automatic is even better as it senses the pollution and ramps up the power until the air quality returns to the 'good' level. I can just glance across the room to check the coloured ring on the control panel (blue = good, orange = fair and red = poor). 4. Functionality – you can simply open the box, unpack the unit, put the filter in, adding the fibre sheet to the outside of the filter (replacements are provided but again, it is a little confusing as I thought that brown envelope was just for pets and there's no demo of that) and turn it on. The circle on the top changes colour according to air quality. Or you can spend a bit more time and connect to your Smart Phone for the ability to log in and check that. 5. Connecting to WiFi – Go to your App Store and follow those links to connect the unit which needs to be switched on when you take the specific steps to install. 5GHz is not supported. This connection allows you to check levels of pollen and dust in real time. This is handy if you have a pet or resident with a sensitivity. Unfortunately, I was not able to get this aspect working. Tried at least 20 times. Plus their language ‘check if the unit’s WiFi LED keeps blinking’ is a pretty confusing command as there is no follow-up on what to do in either case. So at this point, no connection via WiFi or our Homepod. Watch this space as I will keep trying. 6. Completely subjective but I love the look of it and it does work fast and quietly - a complete contrast to other units I have experienced. The Winix 500T is discreet yet a little Dalek-ish. In a good way. Would I recommend this unit? Yes, and as we have solar power, it costs very little to run it during sunny days.
Don't forget to check back from time to time as when I solve the connection issue, I will update with details. (Some of you may have a similar issue).
Update! The unit after 8 months the wifi has stopped showing up on the control panel..it appears to still be functional however no actual indicator any longer on panel. The unit straight out of the box exudes quality workmanship and build, also the weight would lend itself to a quality build, not those super lightweight inferior models. I have… Read more
allergies to pollen, living not too far from pine plantations the every spring spread enormous amounts of yellow pollen. After 5 days of use of the winix air purifier I have experienced a great reduction in sneezing and watery eyes. Along with a marked improvement in less use of my Ventolin spray for my asthma. I dred springtime because of those allergies, at least now I can have relief while I'm in my own home. It took a couple of days however now the positive results for me are very very clear, along with my sinuses hehe. The unit is extremely quiet while on low speed, hardly audible at all really. Having a 4 legged fury friend in my unit I also appreciate the units odour eating capabilities. Along with cooking smells my pet smells have disappeared, noticeably so, I'm a bit surprised at how well it gets rid of odours actually. I have used the pet pre filter on the main filter, a great idea as it's a pre filter sheet that wraps over the main filter and has sticky ends to secure onto itself around main filter, very easy to install, hence the 5 stage filtration rather than just the 4 stage. This also extends the life of the filter. I expect to get 12 months before needing replacement as the instructions do show you can clean the filter and by using the wrap around pet filters, which it says would be replaced monthly. I love the smart wifi capability as it blends seamlessly with my google home, hence everything is also capable of voice activation, wonderful. I have a small 2 bedroom apartment, the bedrooms are upstairs, the unit easily does a full floor of the apartment, I take it upstairs to my bedroom at night, will look at buying a 2nd unit in near future so I can have 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs which will clean the air in my entire townhouse. It's a great unit, easy to set up, quiet in operating, and most of all as a person with allergies it really does improve my homelife. It also has plasma setting that states can kill Airbourne things like some viruses cold n flu etc. All in all I'm extremely happy.
I recently started using the Winix 360° 5-stage air purifier and it’s made a noticeable difference with my allergies. I’m waking up less congested and the air feels much cleaner. It’s quiet, easy to use, and definitely helps make the space more comfortable. Show details
