Wusthof Classic 8 Piece Ikon Knife Block

Terrible warranty – I'd be extremely cautious about Wusthof products. They trumpet that they have an exceptional warranty but our handles separated from the steel shank within 8 months and we haven't heard back from Wusthof at all for warranty repairs.
Purchased in at Robins Kitchen.
Wow – I'm a keen home cook and typically make meals requiring lots of prep so knife work figures in everything I do. With the new kitchen I thought it high time that we invested in a set of knives which (if looked after) will last us forever. We bought this set along with the Wusthof, 2 stage, draw back knife sharpener and love it with a passion. Sharp is an understatement (which is what you should expect from quality knives) but the ease of edge maintenance is stunning with 3 passes on the coarse sharpener and three on the polish the edge is like a razor again. The knives seem to work under their own weight with even soft filled sandwiches being cut to look like a food advertisement! They are extremely comfortable to hold and feel well balanced with a good weight. Our last set felt very light and needed more weight to cut food resulting in jagged carving. I also thought i had broken the scissors on day one but soon realised that they are designed to come apart easily for cleaning! I have never seen this before, great idea and design. Highly recommended.

Great buy. Never regretted buying these knives – I was looking at purchasing a new knife block set for our new home. Spoke to several chefs and was advised Japan and Germany make the best kitchen knives. Did lots of research and read reviews on both Japanese and German knives and I decided on buying the Wusthof Ikon 8 Piece Knife Block set. I even bought one Global knife (Japanese made) to try out and it was a fantastic knife but I preferred the feel of the Wusthof knife.
Looked at other types of Wusthof knives available however the Ikon was a well balanced knife, the quality of the handle and the feel of the knife in your hand just blew me away. If you purchase the knife block set from an authorised Wusthof dealer, you get free Life Time sharpening on any knife - at their expense. Simply contact the Australian distributor, they will collect the knife, sharpen and deliver back to you free of charge. How good is that. Would certainly recommend these knives. But be careful - they are extremely sharp. One day I simply rested the knife against my hand and received a shallow cut. They do take some getting use to ( making sure my fingers are always out of the way) but it only took me about a week to be fully confident using all knife sizes.
Yes you might pay between to $ 400 - $ 600 for a knife block but its money well spent. They will last you a life time. Go for the Ikon series - much better feel than the Classic, Culinar or Grand Prix series. Balanced feel of the knife, quality of the handle No cons as yet.
