Im looking at buying one of these machines. The one in question has 120,00kms on it (about 75,000 Miles). What are these engines like for longevity?

Thanks

For any motorbike this is a lot of mileage, buy mine was sold at 100k and the motor was fantastic. Not a drop of oil , always started immediately even after months of garaging and i was told that for an xj990 that was normal. However, beware of head bearings, and worn thin braking disc.

What oil goes in a yamaha 900 diversion 1999 Y reg?

Castrol Grand Prix Motorcycle oil. You cannot go wrong and that's from the son of a motorcycle mechanic who's father recommended this same oil. external link  Do not use car oil it will ruin your clutch plates.

I have used 20W/40 car oil which is recommended for the bike when used in environments between 5 & 45 degrees. I have clocked my XJ900S and have had no issues at all. Make sure whatever you use, it does not have friction modifiers (this will cause clutch issues).

I'd rather spend my money on better riding gear and as my bike needed servicing every 10 weeks at one stage it all adds up. This is not a high performance bike.

My bike has 120,000km on it, runs brilliantly, does not use oil and does not smoke. Looking forward to the next 120,000km.

I live in Newcastle and I tend to look for bike shops who make their living on bike servicing only and not a combination of sales & servicing because they depend on good feedback and need to perform well to survive.

Hi,try Road and River in Geelong, they have a huge range of tires and do excellent mechanical work, my 900 Div was serviced at 40,000 km by the previous owner and the detail in the service papers report appeared to cover everything, now has 75,000 km on the clock,I have owned 9 bikes in total and the Div is the best to own and ride out of all of them, a 6th gear wouldn't have gone astray though, but all in all a great bike, put on the cruise control, feet up on the cruise pegs, and the horizon is only your limit, ,good luck with your tune up,I live in s/w district Victoria.
