2010 WH Limited CRD – I bought a 2010 Limited CRD in 2017 with 68K on the clock. It now has 134K. For an 11 year old v6 turbo diesel the torque this thing puts out is unbelievable. I had the GDE tune done and for a 4wd the acceleration is comically fast. I had the old man emu lift kit fitted which improved handling and off road capabilities significantly. A couple of… Read more

minor (common) issues over the years I’ve had it. Glow plugs - cheap and easy fix. Injector seal leaked. Also a fairly cheap fix ($300) if you notice it early. This has been a great car. I love driving it. My only real complaint would be rpm at 110km/hr is a touch too high thanks to gearing. I believe this is shared across petrol and diesel platforms.

I have this one longer than any other – Had my WH 3L Diesel for 6 years now - purchased 2nd hand for $26k - still only 112k on the clock but I do go bush with it towing a offload Camper. I bought it with towing in mind and being a Gold Prospector at heart need a good 4x4 to get to where I want to go. Very powerful engine!!! – I have an 05 CRD model which i purchased back in 2014 primarily for towing plant and equipment. It had 176k kms and now it has 217k kms and still goes like a rocket. The range of towing varied from 1700kg to 3500kg. It averaged 14ltrs/100km taking it easy around town and around 19ltrs/100km around town with 3.5t. I have read a lot of negative… Read more

reviews, but i don't understand why as for the last 6yrs it has been great and in context i am talking about a 15yr old car which still goes great and can blow away brand new cars! Ok the leather seat have cracked, a little bit of rust is starting to appear, but we are talking about a 15yr old car here. If the car got ridden off, for the replacement value alone, i would go out and buy another!

Great car – Driving this car is always nice it’s quiet, smooth, handles well and looks good to. Only problem I have had with this car is the leather. We have always looked after this car and the leather has torn on the drivers seat and is starting to go on the arm rest. We have spoke to someone from Jeep and they said it’s not there fault..  Show details

Worthy of a look – The WH Grand Cherokee has left me scratching my head on a few occasions. I have owned several Jeep's over the years including a WG Grand Cherokee. The WH (or WK1) was a complete re-design based on the Mercedes Benz ML370? (I think) regardless it was born out of the brief Benz ownership or Chrysler. In doing so, I think they cut some corners. I… Read more

have a 4.7l laredo, and the specs seem to be down on the previous model such as no steering wheel stereo controls and the bonnet release is on the passenger side. The seats also aren't as comfortable as the previous model (but still better than most other 4x4 wagons)

The WH is fairly thirsty gulping down around 15l/100k and doesn't seem to matter of your on the freeway or around town. Range is around 450k out of 65litres. Apparently the tank is 73 but it's indicating well empty when I get 65litres in it.

The WH is a very quiet car to drive, even quieter than most sedans out there.

It gets along pretty well and has enough power, but don't expect it to have as much poke as an SS Commodore or Falcon XR8.

The gearbox seems somewhat intuitive, and you have to teach it when to shift. All this seems to be forgotten once the battery is disconnected.

It's a fairly easy car to work on. I've had no issues with the car, and the only time it has let me down was when the battery in the remote leaked and killed the chip...lucky I had a spare.

Main item to look out for is worn front diff bushes. This will be heard as clunking over rough roads or jerking of the car when moving the transmission in and out of park. These can be difficult to change and I'd expect somewhere around 6hours minimum in labor. I changed mine myself.

Hot tips are when going off road use low range and select gears with the tiptronic to prevent gearbox overheating from hunting gears. The auto is very reliable given periodic oil changes and flushes. I had my auto flushed and it made a world of difference.

I love the sound of my car but should have bought the diesel. This model is limited in aftermarket accessories but seems to have the best rep of jgc's. The 3.7l V6 is the least reliable of the engine options, and the 5.7 hemi's fuel consumption is around the same as the 4.7l.

Unfortunately, Jeep dealers have a bad reputation in Aus. If you do need to get work done, get a quote for parts first then check eBay for price.

From budget power to a full-blown lemon – After owning a 1997 3.4L V6 Prado for a few years, I decided I wanted an upgrade, but still wanted to retain off-road ability paired with on-road power. So I bought a Jeep. I opted for a 2005 Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7L V8 Hemi. At first it seemed to be a bargain for what I had found, a V8 SUV with e-locking differentials and 240kW/500Nm… Read more

stock for under $10K. Unfortunately, over the short time I owned it, the car spent a huge amount of time at the dealer/mechanic for an uncountable amount of things, ranging from a new steering rack/wheel speed sensors/power steering pump/wheel sensors/constant transmission issues etc. I put in the effort at the start by installing custom extractors and exhaust, CAI and a custom tune, but by the end I realised it just wasn't worth it and regrettably it was the biggest flop of a car I've ever driven. My trips to and from work were constantly hampered with an overheating transmission, which was diagnosed to be a faulty sensor withing the transmission which would have cost over $3K to replace. If the wheel sensors are not replaced with official Mopar parts, there will be a constant error on the EVIC, paired with 3 error codes when hooked up to a diagnostic tool. To its credit, the Jeep was great off-road and bettered nearly every 4X4 it went up against, both in the wet and dry. The power was great for a 2 tonne SUV, paired with the noise of the Hemi, it made for a brilliant combination for fun on the weekend. But it was, truly and utterly a lemon. There is nothing that could make up for the rage felt when four or five things were going wrong at once at you could only feel either helpless and/or miserable knowing that it would be back in the shop within the week with the knowledge that it was only the tip of the iceberg and you could be looking at thousands of dollars to keep it running just to the shops and back. In a sentence, avoid this car like the plague. You have been warned

Terrific Vehicle for What I purchased It For – I purchased the 3.0 CRD Laredo basically to tow my 24 ft 3.1 Tonne Jayco Caravan. Boy it does that with ease and with a very pleasing fuel economy of app 16.4 lt/100, This figure was achieved on two long trips, one of 9,400 klms from Brisbane to Broken Hill, Silverton then around The Flinders Ranges in South Australia, The Eyre Peninsular,… Read more

Adelaide, then the Great Ocean Rd to Melbourne, Ballarat, Eucheca, Albury, Gundagi Then through Young and back roads to Bathurst. Actually did a lap of Mt Panorama towing the Van around the circuit. Then back to Brisbane. Also a shorter trip out Westen Qld of about 4,500 klms. Very impressed with its towing performance, economy, comfort and reliability. Have now done 152,000 klms with many shorter towing trips. The car has been extremely reliable with about Four recalls. The only issue that I have is the support from Chrysler Jeep Australia (now Fiat Jeep Aust) one recall was a safety issue regarding the possibility of bumping the ignition switch with the right knee and turning the engine off when driving. it took two years to get this sorted out with the dealer and Chrysler Jeep Australia and only after intervention from the ACCC was one modified switch airfreighted from the US to fit to my vehicle. The other issue is that the cost of Spare Parts from the Dealer. A Serpentine Belt $128.00 from the Dealer, $47.20 from Repco, same belt. And, dont think of getting parts from Mopar in the US you can’t easily get parts from the US as they Mopar in the States and their Dealets won’t export to Australia. I believe due to an agreement with Mopar and Chrysler in the US and Chrysler Jeep Australia. An alternator from the dealer $1,900.00 but from a third party here who has a trade line from the US just under $900.00. So, great car, great performer, love the vehicle but pity about Chrysler Jeep Australia and their Dealers. Also had issues with the Service Manager at Gold Coast Jeep telling me lies about reason for alternator failure and process to fitting a new one. Have found a terrific Jeep Master Mechanic locally who runs rings sound the dealer in regards to knowledge and pricing. I would love to give his name but probably not wise. The dealer also advised that they had to disconnect the engine mounts and lift the engine to change the alternator. Again this is pure B...S. April 2019 Update: have just completed two return trips with the van in tow from Brisbane to Yamba, Northern NSW, both round trips of app 600 k. Fuel economy 14.9 ltrs/100klms, Interestingly that trip now does not have any major range crossings, as it basically is a flat drive at just about sea level for the entire trip and is Motorway Standard for 90% of the way. Very happy with those figures.

It's cheap but you get what you pay for – My second jeep and while the 2005 WH is an improvement over the old WJ it isn't on par with the competition. things seem rather civilised and you won't find these on other cars at this price.

On the down side the car is made by jeep, expect poor finish on the paint and interior, things rattle, clunk and bang about meaning a noisy trip. Parts can be picked up cheap with shipping from American E-bay but you will need to make use of this fact, power windows fail, small interior components often fall off and expect more serious issues on occasion.

The real downside of this car is the ride quality, its quite simply inexcusable, bouncing wobbling, rocking and rolling at any slight bump or undulation in the road mean not only the passengers but the driver will need to stop often to battle the bouts of jeep induced nausea.

Overall, for a cheap, well equipped and powerful tow car the WH gran cherokee will do that job but if you can afford something else then avoiding the pains of a jeep owners life is recommended.

Great value but a few design flaws – Considering all the features included, a Jeep Grand Cherokee is great value for money compare with other 4WD in its class. for adults. There is more room in my Mum's Mazda 3. The boot is smaller than comparable cars. Finding a dealer that has a decent service department that knows what they are doing and doesnt charge a fortune or try to rip you off is very difficult. If you are in Sydney, I recommend the dealership at Chullora. I wouldn't recommend: Five Dock, Burwood, Chatswood, Parramatta. A few small things have gone wrong ( key failure twice, once under warranty, second time $660 if you do it through Jeep, oil pressure sensor failure, parking sensor failure and unbelievably the two windscreen washer nozzles disintegrated (extortionately priced at $35 each from Jeep, plus fitting, but you can do it yourself). The automatic gearbox on this car is very clunky, and the baffles in the fuel tank make a clunking noise too. According to Jeep, these things are normal so they won't fix them. The GPS is HOPELESS. You can almost guarantee it will send you int e wrong direction. It thinks our house is 400m down the road, and would have sent us on a 300km detour on a country drive in SA. Streets built decades ago don't exist.

I bought a Jeep and freaking love it – great powerful diesel merc engine - tows 3.5tonne easily. Probably would like better brakes on it for heavy braking. Lovely comfortable car 167k on it so far and no problems. Running costs averaging 11.3ltres to the 100kms. Haven't had to spend anything on it other than the standard services. reason I sold it was 500,000 k,s on the clock thought I'd better sell it before its worth nothing

I looked at ML Mercedes vehicles but they where 25 grand more with the same OM642 diesel engine no Mercedes is worth that much more especially when they are made in Kentucky the Jeep GC is made by steyr in Austria not bad build quality

Have had a lot of problems with it mainly niggly things but its done 295.000 k,s after fitting a provent and green diesel tune K&N filter 3 inch exhaust gets excellent economy can go from gold coast to Sydney on one tank not bad for such a big heavy vehicle

have also fitted Bilstien shocks king springs Firestone air bags Jeepin by all front upper control arms

I don't take it of road mainly touring and the occasional bit of towing

Parts prices are astronomical here in Australia and they never have parts in stock so always waiting a couple weeks

I now get them direct from the states quarter the price and the yanks still understand the word service

Most of the problems I have had have been mechanic related fix one thing break another finally got an old race car builder mate of mine to do the work on it the original mountain of codes and faults have slowly disappeared still got a service 4wd warning coming up occasionally but nothing left to replace so going to let it die that way we can figure out what it is

The dealer is the only one with the scanning capability's and at their hourly rate to try and chase up a warning forget about it

It has never let us down just came back form a 5000 k trip ran sweet as had to change from the Mercedes specified synthetic oil to a mineral oil was using the synthetic oil at 2 litres per 5,000k,s gone to a mineral diesel oil does not use a drop and the mineral oil is quarter the price go figure

All in all its not a bad vehicle its just so hard to find anyone that can fix things but I have that with a couple other cars I own big roomy drivers compartment I am 6,3 and long legged fairly large load space and not as big as a cruiser or partrol easier to manouver round town had its share of problems but also having done 295,000 k,s already

2010 Grand Cherokee CRD - Perfect all rounder on road, off road, towing, comfort – As good as most cars onroad and better than most offroad. hinges and interior plastic. Fantastic offroad, every bit as good as the much praised Nis'ota. However, yes - if it goes wrong it can be very expensive (stay away from donkey dealers, hardly a good one out there for Jeep in OZ). Poor aftermarket option in OZ but strong AUD = cheap parts from across the water are an easy option. Find yourself a trusted mechanic that specialiss in Jeeps. Good vehicle for 5 adults and lots of luggage space. Towing anything is no problem. My experience is to stick with BP diesel - you pay a little more at the pump but on long trips i have seen less consumption than every other brand by at least 1.0-1.2L/100km and i have passed 900km on one tank. I have it lifted 2" and running on LT's. Would rather have had 16" wheels for more offroad tire options and a better upper suspension design to get rid of that damn protruding bolt. It is a jeep thing - this is my third... can't see me owning another brand now... Power, economy Expensive repairs and poor dealer support, limited aftermarket options including tires

other 4WD's we were with a Land Cruiser, Prado and Patrol, bits were breaking and falling off. Mine just kept on keeping on. Car cost around $65k. Bit pricey. It is an absolute gem off road and the quadra trac II got a caning and held up in low range and sand conditions. Although going was hard. We got out at the end of each day as if we had gone to the local cafe for a coffee. Can not see myself buying any other 4WD but a Jeep. The 3.0 litre diesel is as sweet an engine as any vehicle I have ever owned, very reluctant to update to the new model as Fiat are not going to use the Mercedes diesel for the new model. They have their own. Great for towing my caravan, a 21ft Kedron off road. Pulls it like a snack. In case you are thinking it. No I did not take the Kedron to Cape York, they are a good van but not that good. I also fitted it with an ARB custom fitted bull bar and winch, never needed it but it gave peace of mind. Price was not an issue until I found the new 2011 model is $18,000 less than mine. How in hell did that happen. Might have something to do with the fact that Fiat now manufacture them. The Grand Cherokee I bought was made by Daimler Ride height is too low, I had to lift it 2 inches to get clearance for off road work. Can't get a snorkel for the diesel, made wading difficult. Creeks and rivers on the way to Cape York were quite deep. I fabricated a snorkel out of 90mm storm water pipe and adapted it to the air intake. Had to take the front grill off when I fitted it for wading, worked perfectly. Met up with a guy from Melbourne at Nolans Brook just near the Jardine river. He had a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel, foolish man tried to cross the brook without a snorkel, the engine was destroyed when it took in water and the turbo disintegrated. Cost him $2,500 to have it towed to the Jardine River roadhouse barely 40 kms away and had it shipped by sea from Sesia to Cairns. Hope he has plenty of money. I got across the brook ok with my retro fit storm water pipe, had to be careful that the turbo did not touch the water though. One other thing was fuel tank, it only holds 70 something litres, could have done with 100litre tank.
