2 Twisted  · Taste ok not as good as the original chicos,a shame Allen's are so weak a company that they had to cheapen the ingredients and the name.
1 rickshaw607  · Never again – Disappointing to say the least. First pack in who knows and what on earth has changed.
4 Laurie  · Nice flavour – Same taste as i remember them. Great treat . Cheekys have always been a favourite of mine .
1 Rhee L.  · Change(s) for the worse!!! – The recipe & name change were both entirely unnecessary, won't be purchasing this product again.
1 Gloria R.  · Name change due to racial overtones??? – What is racist about the Spanish word for boy - Chico. If need to change name consider BLM
1 Robyn C.  · Ewwwwww! – Terrible - The texture is now like a cheap jelly baby!

These no longer taste the same as they did even after the name change. They have a nasty bitter aftertaste and the chocolate taste is really muted now. Removing the gelatine makes them feel like I'm chewing a Petri dish. I'm done with Nestle products. Show details

These are not how I remember. The taste and the texture have definitely changed. They used to be firm and chewy and had a chocolate flavour. They are now mushy and taste bland. Will not purchase again. Show details

Utterly disappointed – These reviews go back for years so obviously there will be no return of the once brilliant Chico babies (or redskins). These were my all time favourite lolly. Now just chemical tasting GARBAGE (which is where they belong). Returning from NZ these were on the top of my list (along with space food stix)of "must get again and introduce my children to… Read more

my childhood". These are just horrendous. Allen's lollies were amazing, now black and gold lollies are on par (if not better). WHAT A BITTER DISAPPOINTMENT !!!!

p.s. I didn't even give these to my children. They DO NOT represent the joy of my childhood

New chicos now cheekies taste terrible now I used to love them – Why do the new named checkies taste nothing like the chicos? I'm so disappointed they have a different texture and lost that chocolate taste it's just not enjoying enough to buy anymore!! Such a sad day for chicos! Show details

A name change to Chico due to racial overtones! – I reckon it's stupid to change the name of a Lollie, it's been called Chicko's since it was first invented leave them the way and the name we know them as. The only thing I see that needs changing is the minds of some of these stupid uneducated snowflakes. Show details

Great lolly, about time the name changed – A perfectly balanced flavour between sugar and cocoa. I will personally eat more of these to make up for all the boomers. I ask for no recompense, except perhaps bariatric surgery in 5 years' time. Show details

This is perfect! Can’t live without it – I don’t understand what all the fuss is about. I’m almost 40 and I don’t remember anything special about what they tasted like before, but I now regard them as one of my favourite sweets. I find many sweets way too sweet and full of artificial tasting fake flavours which leave a bad after taste in the mouth with many getting stuck in the teeth.… Read more

Some I just get sick of after a while. I really enjoy Chicos for just the right amount of sweetness, cocoa flavouring and ideal texture for easy chewing, but not too soft that it would get stuck in my teeth and I can easily finish a whole bag without getting sick of them. I’m curious what they tasted like before, but there are a lot of sweets I enjoyed when I was younger, but no longer enjoy, so perhaps I would prefer them as they are now. Long live Chicos.

Disappointing but Expected – I bought these for the first time in many years today, in the hope that the name change may be aligned to a return to the original recipe. I wonder if this change to a vegan-friendly offering has made a positive difference to their bottom line, because the flavour and texture remain as horrible as ever. I shan't buy them again, and must instead… Read more

cherish the memories of buying them on the way to high school in the 90s, and sneaking them from my desk to nibble during class.

The disgusting taste of Allen's Cheekies( Chicos) – I don't know what they have done to the taste of Cheekies/chicos. They have a disgusting chemical taste. Used to buy Chicos regularly. Won't be buying Cheekies again. Best place for them is the bin. Show details

Allen's Cheekies taste like kerosene – I used to love chicos but something has changed and now they have a real chemical taste to them. Can barely taste any chocolate. Whatever Allen's did I wish they'd go back to their old recipe.

Horrible – It’s a shame they have changed flavour. They taste very cheap like a home brand. All the lollies have changed and they all taste the same. It’s sad actually as I can’t buy lollies anymore. I love lollies but I won’t eat cheap tasting lollies. I always loved the powder coated large red and green frogs. I miss them so much. Chicos were so yummy and… Read more

it’s a shame that cheekies don’t even come close to a Chico. Sad times actually you can’t buy real lollies anymore. I’m 57 and loved loved loved all Allen’s lollies. But I refuse to buy them anymore. They should change their name from Allen’s too as they aren’t Allen’s

Taste change bland rubber – I have purchased chicos for years. There has been a recent change to taste which is bland not worth buying. They keep mentioning taking out gelatine in 2016 as being the only change. Wrong they do not taste the same I don’t know what the company did probably the usual cost cutting exercise but as a result they do not taste as good . They need to change back to the old flavour. Until then no sale. Show details

What happened to chicos – I have been sick and I rarely eat lollies. When I do I love Chico's. It's been that long I didn't even realise they were cheekies now? I'm wondering.. maybe they haven't changed any ingredients but maybe one of the ingredients they use have changed… Read more

Why the recipe change? – Chicos/Cheekies used to be a great treat. I would eat them like a salad with Allen's raspberries in a bowl. My partner brought some 'Cheekies' home recently from Aldi. She ate a few in front of the telly, the room was dark, she gave me a couple and I asked "Are these Aldi's copy of Chicos? They're not very good.' She said they were indeed Allen's,… Read more

I didn't believe her. Before we argued, she turned on the light. Wowser, they WERE Allen's. If you read the replies on this site from Allen's employees, they insist the recipe is unchanged. My question is, why do so many of us reviewers find the taste IS different and the texture IS less firm and chewy? We can't all be wrong. Come on guys, keep it real please. I too wouldn't buy this again. I still enjoy their red frogs and snakes though!

Garbage, along with their retro party mix YUCK – I know its probably been about 5 or so years since i grabbed some allens lollies... And wow they taste like the cheap junk they used to compete against. They leave a bad taste in your mouth and have no flavour anymore. So yeah, maybe they made them healthier, cut the sugar?? but why? You buy lollies because they ARE sweet and sickly and full of… Read more

sugar!!!! not because they are friggin healthy... What idiot decided to change things at allens? Albeit about 4 or 5 years ago. If i wanted a healthy snack id go buy a lettuce and eat it. bring back the proper allens lollies and put a warning on them for idiots, contains sugar not health food etc... and bring back the bugger sizings, maybe tell the leadership and execs to cut back on their pay rather than directly impacting the consumer.

So bad – I hoped the name change might come with a change to the old formula, but apparently not. Disappointing – I have definitely noticed the product recipe change and it certainly does not taste better as others have reviewed. It is such a shame that food companies we grew up with and loved to consume are altering recipes, shrinking the products net weight and increasing the prices all for what I assume is cost cutting but losing a lot of loyal consumers along the way. I used to love Chico’s, but not anymore unfortunately. Show details
