When life gives you a lemon….sell it – I had a secondhand 2008 D22 as my daily driver. The first 20k km it ran ok. Then with 180k on the clock…2x turbos, gearbox, diff, top end rebuild before 200k. Total lemon. Show details

months ago to replace my partners car having two really good d22s went for a third. But what a mistake we have had a few issues with its timing chain and a few other issues a we brought to tow the float but having 2 horse on it really struggles to get going end up using my old 3l witch doesn't have a problem the 2.5 is very heavy on fuel just get 300km to a tank with the float and we get about 500 to 550 km with the old 3l
No nonsense reliable ute – I have a 2014 Navara D22, purchased when it had 54k on the clock. This is my daily drive but being retired I use it to get into those rivers requiring 4x4 to do fly fishing it has a smooth off road ride. I also tow a CUB Weekender fully bombed up weight probably 900\1000kg. Have fitted an idrive which works nicely, has no problems towing, I keep… Read more
it serviced and do inter service oil change and gearbox and differential oils once a year. Have a snorkel with a K&N filter twice a year clean the intercooler and EGR valve, she’s a quick Ute.

Old school reliability – Purchased my new D22 Navara back in February 2010 10 years on still have it still love it a very basic Spartan type of a ute never had a single issue with it Navara is comfortable drives well and good on fuel on paper power figures are poor compared to modern vehicles but it goes a lot better than the 3 L in the previous model they were absolutely… Read more
gutless. build quality fit and finish is acceptable for a commercial vehicle I'm a qualified spray painter buy trade and there's no such thing as a perfect fit and finish on any vehicle out there the later model D22 started to get very average on fit and finish due to such a long run of this vehicle they're dies must have been worn out making panels for these vehicles.a lot of aftermarket accessories has improved power considerably example snorkel exhaust larger intercooler and in the last 2 years fitted I drive throttle controller made a massive difference from the terrible turbo lag from standard only issue I've had with this vehicle is airbag recall on the passenger side the useless dealer Gary cricks in Noosa cracked the top section of dash when they fitted the new airbag and never told me 6 weeks on still waiting to hear from them on replacing the damaged part that they caused after 10 years of reliability on this Navara have considered updating to a newer vehicle but really don't know what to buy when you look at reviews on all dual cabs and the amount of problems they all have don't know whether it's worth buying a new vehicle if you can find a D22 with low kilometres would recommend to buy to anyone very basic reliable vehicle
She’s a beauty with a long life! – Bought my Nissan Navara d22 new in 2014. Done 112 000kms in that time (it’s now 2019) and it hasn’t missed a beat. The brakes are yet to be replaced with what I would expect a long way to go. The clutch is beautiful not a problem. It obviously doesn’t have the power of a new v6 Amarok nor the lack of power as a 1993 triton or hilux May have. When… Read more
needed it has the power you need and around town it’s a pleasure to drive. If you are into 4wding, touring, camping or even just hauling gear in the back or on a medium to small trailer then you won’t be disappointed (even a first time car buyer, if you have the money because they do hold their value). I personally bought it for 4wding, loading up the back and touring, and it’s done just that with ease and comfort. Space wise you wouldn’t be able to fit three grown men in the back comfortably but you could easily fit three kids or teenagers in there with room to spare. The accessories are endless ranging from aftermarket to genuine and if serviced well can last as long as you want. I’m extremely happy with mine and if your looking for one make sure it’s well looked after first and you’ll love it and never want to sell it!
worst piece of crap ive ever owned – i bought a d22 navara from a good mate that had owned it from new it had been regularly serviced and never missed a beat until the day i bought it at a very very low km , From day one i had nothing but electrical problems ranging from the windows getting stuck half way and refusing to go up or down for hours to the alarm going off while im… Read more
standing right beside it and nothing touching it to the airconditioner selecting its own speed even tho it was manual controls. The vehicle was fitted with a small lift done threw nissan with a canopy ,draw system with fridge with camping stuff only in one draw and tools in the other never very heavy at all , snorkel bullbar with winch sidesteps and bigger tyres the first time it was ever put into four wheel drive to get off my front lawn as it had rained i went to move it and not even spun the wheel one rotation and it blew the front differential to pieces nissan refused to fix it and i had to take them to court to have it fixed. The car had a total of under 20,000 km when i was driving to work sitting on 100km\h when the back wheels locked up as the gear box had literally fallen out of the car again nissan blamed me and i was out of pocket for over $5000 as when i spoke to my lawyer i was advised i would not win and got second and third advice and was told the same as nissan had told them i had been doing burnouts in my vehicle but with no proof. After having this fixed two days later the rear diff dropped all of its oil out a small hole just next to the axle behind the hub where the thing drilled its own drain hole some how this was fixed by nissan with no argument. the very next day the front upper control arm split in two putting me into a wall luckily at slow speed again fixed by nissan no argument a few days later the diesel pump died followed by the injectors two days later. A few days later followed by the alternator then two days later the power steering pump as well as the outer door lock on the drivers door. This was all eventually fixed and the car seemed to be like a different car and drove amazingly for about two weeks until i jumped in it one morning to go to work and could hear a strange noise that sounded like tyre squeal but could not find any problem with the car drove a little more down the road the hole time hearing this noise coming from the rear of the vehicle regardless of speed over about 20 km/h i decided to not risk driving it and got it towed back to nissan i received a call that afternoon to tell me that i had towed to much weight with the vehicle and had bent the back of the ute down and it was causing the tyres to squeal being out of alignment i had a massive argument with the manager as my vehicle didn't even have a tow bar and had never even been off road and had never had anything put in the tray due to the canopy and draw system and camping gear that never got removed from the back of the car as i camped any chance i got but never got to with this car as it never made it any where with out braking down i ended up back at court and won my case with alot of help from a great lawyer and smash repair experts four wheel drive experts and mechanical experts so i will never ever buy a nissan or buy any car from nepean motor group/ penrith mitsubishi

Built for purpose – Use it 4 times per week as a run-around-ute. It is not designed to be a luxury vehicle but a genuine no-nonsense do anything, go anywhere, reliable, blokes ute. Big tip, after 150k , get it serviced every 5k, mine now has 250k still going strong. Took it around Oz 6 months ago, no worries. Fuel consumption can get a bit much (12.5l / 100k in back… Read more
blocks). Had a catch-can fitted recently, has dropped av fuel consumption back to 10.5l/100k. Have bullbar, snorkel, rear camera, buckets, alloy tray with slide-on camper. Have looked at trading in but will keep for a bit longer and give to a grandchild. Too good to trade and most newies are too technical.
Good o'l faithful – I have 03 Navara cab chassis turbo diesel 3ltr 4WD. Bought this 3rd hand late 2017. I do courier work 200km every day. Done some off roading last year in 2018 in the outback during a 8000km trip over 3 weeks. Never missed a beat. Service twice a year. Never had any problems. This car has never failed me. during the week. Motor starts first time every time and still pulls hard. Replaced the clutch soon after purchase and replaced battery early 2019. Other than that i keep oil fresh and coolant levels up and the beast just keeps on going. One of the last of the original Japanese made Navaras. Love my nifty Nav.
Very reliable ute – Own my 2004 D22 For 10 years now ,done 400.000 km ,and never missed a beat. Not most comfortable ,but keeps going ,tows the boat ,take me to work ,always long hot miles . service it myself every 10km,with good 15-50 semi or fully synthetic oil. Not happy with d22 – Not real happy with navs its my own fault really bought n 03 bent chassis ...bought an 09 chassis cracked front to back ...wont be buying a 3rd so sad

Cheap and nasty – Over the last 20 years I’ve had 3 Navaras and 5 Hilux’s as my work utes so I have a bit of background The D22 was my first Navana and by far the worse and also the cheapest It look good with the alloy wheels and colour match bars , but it rides very rough the seating position is terrible and the cabin noise is high I did 100k in the car and… Read more
had no problems! So it it’s reliable and got the job done , but I would buy another !
Power is low, but fuel economy is good
At the time I got a great deal from Nissan as it was the old model , but my resale was just as poor .
If money is tight then this car could work for you

Reliable 3.2 diesel – Bought very cheap with the seller spending $3000 on the suspension springs . I was hesitant to buy one for so many years . The 3.2 is not as slow as what has been said , has a good amount of pick up but what can you expect? I see lots of people push these to a turbo but i will leave it stock . The only problem is the instrument cluster , temp… Read more
gauge works and rev counter at certain rpm abover 1300 . This is because of a resistor behind the panel , fixing this very soon . Turning circle is very good for a truck this size , heater / aircon perfect , no rust except for a small amount of surface in the rear tub . Not yet been off road but soon , im not a hard core offroader so this will just take me to the back beach ect.

Great Car – Great car, purchased new, I knew from the test drive back seat was cramped and power was low, but 6 years later, drives like the day I bought it, I think it will last another 10 years, only changed, oil, filters and tyres... Easy to service and work on, low tech, just the way I like it. Well built solid workhorse and weekend warrior. Show details
Nissan Navara is the best vehicle to buy. But the passenger area is less spacious – I have a Nissan Navara D22 2006, ST-R 3L. I bought it in Melbourne & drove to Cairns. Then I drove it to Brisbane. From Brisbane, I came to Esperance in WA. Each time I had a trailer with it. I bought it in 2016 and it is now 2018. In between, I have driven almost 30000kms. I regularly service the car by myself. change oil in every 5000kms. always use Penrite oil. Have change diesel filter a few times. This is the best vehicle to buy. Show details
Amazing 4wd !!! – I have taken this to the cape and all over the beach side. The only thing I have had to upgrade is my suspension and tyres. Honestly love this car. Brings joy to my family plenty of space for work and fun on the weekends!!! Great fuel economy as well!! 9litres to 100k's. Show details
Perfect car – Very nice car to drive, interior could be a bit nicer but overall nice, good price to run but have a lot of problems with the paint chipping and the clutch playing up, very good sized tub looks great with ladder rack and after market bull bar over all would really recommended Show details
Bad car on the tow – I've had 2 navaras in 18 years one was a 2000 model 3.3 Litre petrol had that for 15 years and was a great vehicle on and off the tow! Then I bought a 2014 2.4 Litre turbo and iv done 2 clutches and gearbox at 75000kms! It is by far what you would say a girls car with no grunt! Terrible at the tow! What you would say all shoe and no go! I wish I… Read more
had my old car again! I think a hilux for a towing worker is the go and I will be buying Toyota hilux!
Good, but had a crap turning circle! – Overall happy with the ute. Very spacious inside and good tray space. My only complaint is that its turning circle is ridiculous. Where other vehicles could do a three point turn, I would have to do at least a 5 point turn. So its a pain to park and get into tight spaces. Show details
Cheap and broken – Driving performance that I have is that the sheering wheels broke when it went on the clear roads. Door had bad edges after I just opened the back door and the boot. Lasted for a week and can't find someone that I bought it from to return it back to that people. Show details
We needed a ute that was easy to drive – We had been looking for a ute that would be our second car, easy to drive and also be our work-horse for ferrying large items around. This is a nice looking ute, has a dual cab so the shopping can sit on the back seat securely and be in air conditioning, if needed. The gearbox on this ute is probably the best of any car we have owned. The only… Read more
downside, and would be the same with any utility vehicle, is bad visibility when reversing. We had the option of fitting a rear camera, which we may do at a later date.
Good all rounder – Purchased as an interim vehicle, but have clocked up around 60,000 klms, to now total 307000 kms. Overall not a bad car for the klms and driving experience. It wasn't kept in the best order by previous owner, so have corrected a few things on the way, but am happy with nothing really spent besides normal running costs. Pros: Car like drive, easy… Read more
to park, turning circle ok, seats comfy, dual airbags, ABS brakes halve stopping distance to previous ute, good looks, do take it off road a fair bit and goes alright, Cheap on fuel averaging under 8 L to the 100 klms city/ country, Nissan parts much cheaper than Rodeo by average 25%, and only wait a day or 2 for Nissan part, not weeks like Holden. Plenty of new, reproduction, and used parts at reasonable prices.
Cons: My teenage age sons complain bitterly about rear access, space, hard middle seat, with heads hitting the roof when hitting a bump on the road (not tall). Turbo lag, Black plume of smoke when accelerating med-hard-but all can be fixed with magical blanking plate from ebay, small all round, less storage space, mud likes to gather in front of mud spats blocking drainage and you know what happens if you don't clear it, annoying glitches in sensor cpu or whatever, making the car loose power every now and then, turn off car to remedy, Light clutch- if you want to do series towing don't buy this vehicle. Use only genuine parts as the car runs so much better and doesn't use any oil, had non genuine oil and filters & it ran like a dog, used 10% more fuel and used an extra 750mls of engine oil between services.Get a timing chain inspection every time you go around the clock to inspect for wear. can snap, and its not pretty.

Good car nut gone through 3 gear boxes – Hey i got a navara str 2006 with 186000km on it been through 3 gear boxes.1st one at 120000km the next 1 did bout 30000km then blew 4th and 5th gear put a brand new 1 in it then bang only did 22700km just out of warranty mechanic said it had no oil in it but transfer case was over flowing with oil how does that happen Show details
Great truck – I've got a 2009 STR with 150k stock except for suspension. This is the best car I've ever owned. Apart from tyres and oil, the car is original. The Nissan service department told me to think about brake change at 30k service, I said I'll wait. It's now past 150k and brakes are still fine! I do oil change myself now and have never had an issue. The… Read more

Great all round ute – Awesome truck. Owned since new 2012 on and off road very reliable. Get about 750-800km a tank on the highway. The turning circle is not great but it's not supposed to be a Barina. The buttons on the radio have broken off and are hard to replace as Nissan don't sell them, also I was told it's common. The cup holders are in an awkward position but you get used to it, but these are minor factors overall. Show details
Swanny – Had my 3.0 ltr 2005 duel cab since new. Put a clutch in 12 months ago. Other than that normal servicing did 375000 and was still going strong until i hit a giant skippy at 120k. That wrote him off. Cant fault it was best vehicle i ever owned. Did central aust 4 times sand driving and half a dozen tripes to tassy. Towed sunken barges out of waterways. And boats etc. i luckily fount another one with only 160 k on it so be good for another 300k Show details
At top of ute build – My 98 navara 3.2 non turbo. has 325000 on it. 1 replaced starter. 2 tailshaft Centre mounts. 2sets front brake pads. 2nd the other day. Used for work in an underground mine for 8 years. No rust . Still has the best clutch gearbox etc out of any, and many, utes I've driven in 40 years. Massive Injector Issues!!! – Nissan's customer service is absolutely appalling! About 2 months ago our car started making a funny noise, after having to get our car (which has done 40,000kms) towed and looked at with Westpoint at our expense they came back saying it was injector issues and possibly even more. Love my Nissan Navara – My 2005 D22 has done 409,000kms so far and still going strong. About 250,000 of these were towing 2 tonne! It's done off-road snow and beach. Never skipped a beat. The only thing other than normal glow plugs, suspension etc that has been replaced was a starter motor at 280,000 and a radiator at 380,000 ! That's it. It's tough and reliable and I'm… Read more

D22 Nissan Navara 2005 – It's not a bad car to drive except for no leg room in the back for anyone over 15 yrs old and the creek in the front end doing u turns or hard left or right hand down.the air conditioner is cold. But it's got no room under the car to change the oil Show details

Love this vehicle !!! – My 2006 d22 3ltr turbo diesel has been in the same family since new ( I bought it off my brother 8 yrs ago ) now has 200,000 plus kms on it and never missed a beat. Very happy with my str – This is my second str , its 2014 and it does everything easy, its not the best pick up on the market ,its kind of honest truck which will take you anywhere , it doesn't mind mud but with right tyer pressure it absolutely loves sand. Now it has 33000km trouble free km as i just came from 8000km trip .Fuel consumption dropped under 9 litres as the… Read more
engine is finally run in, its not comfortable on long drives , its very simple truck but its just keeps on going.I wouldn't recommend it for inexperienced drivers as it doesn't have traction control. But on wet i have lots of fun with it , it will spin the wheels even in 3rd gear when turbo kicks in. Everything is very simple on the car including interior,so if you are after fancy,hi-tech stuff and luxury, you ll be very disappointed. I am over that stuff as i dont mind taking it on rough track and i dont care if it get scratched.
Nissan Rust Bucket – I have no problems with my D22 it's exactly as I thought it would be BUT I am 6 weeks out of warranty and found a decent rust bubble just above the drivers side front door. still allowed to sell them. Nissan should have them taken off the road regardless of the cost to them. So you get an idea of my frustrations the car has done 231 000 kms approximately. I'll never buy another Nissan and will try and talk anyone else out of it also.
November 25th 2016 Update: This has to stop
Ok so this is my third bad review for Nissan by me. A mate called me the other day broken down in his 2003 Navara dual cab 4x4 3ltr turbo diesel and he wanted to know what mine did just before the timing went which was the first thing for me $3600 then secondly when the motor blew around 3000 kms later $???? So i told him and as it turns out his has either done the timing or the engine either way its cactus. His vehicle has only done around
110,000kms. Just another example of Nissan taking advantage of us the consumer. These flawed vehicles should be taken off the road at the expense of Nissan and not available for resale. I will make sure i warn people off buying a Nissan of any kind as the customer service is poor also.
